My prediction?

ModeratorFor now I will trust in McVay. If he wants OBJ, then I hope he gets OBJ.
But how many combustible personalities can you add until you reach the flash point?

The Rams/9ers rivalry continues to get more and more interesting…

ModeratorWhile I agree that the first three seasons are the best (some of the best stuff ever put on TV) I don’t think the following seasons are necessarily bad. It’s still good TV – it’s just not quite as compelling as it used to be. It’s still better than 92% of the stuff out there.

ModeratorThere’s massive technical issues involved in moving from being s 3-tech in a 4 DL front, to salad making.
jurrell casey is a vegan…
just saying.
maybe donald should think about converting…
or does this mean suh is going to the titans!?!?
Cool. They can call their defense the “anemic curtain”.

ModeratorWhen a team is a playoff-caliber team, i always like a veteran backup QB.
I’d like to see them sign George Blanda.
w
vMaybe it’s just me, but I think Geroge Blanda is a little too dead to be a back-up QB in today’s NFL.
Sure, maybe you could scheme around that 20 years ago or so, but not now.
nittany ram
ModeratorWell, like most people here, I don’t think the Rams should sign Suh. However, that seems to be a minority opinion out in the Rams ‘twitterverse’ and on other social media sites.
nittany ram
ModeratorThe thought of Suh signing with the Rams makes me feel apprehensive, not excited. Too many things could go wrong.
I agree. How many guys that have questionable character can the Rams sign before it reaches a critical mass? They would be better off signing a true NT.

Moderator“I think we need to consider the possibility that altruism can be unintentional and arise out of self-interest.”
I read something written by a marine biologist once about the stories of dolphins “saving” downed pilots by pushing them towards shore. He said that he also doubted that the dolphins were really trying to rescue the pilots.
He noted that cetaceans are highly intelligent and playful. He thought it was possible that the dolphins saw the pilots as toys and that pushing them through the water was a type of play behavior. He noted that this behavior can be seen with inanimate objects as well. Dolphins will spend hours delightfully pushing stuff around.
He thought it likely that for every pilot pushed towards shore, many others were pushed away from shore.
Of course, only the pilots that were pushed towards shore lived to tell the tale about how they were ‘rescued’ by dolphins.

Do you happen to remember the names of any of the old flamers we used to get on any of the old boards? I’ve gotten too old and forgetty to remember any of them.
I guess i do remember one, though i am not sure flamer is quite the right descriptor for him: AirRams. He got a little scary.

vCalif-Tom.

Moderator“So even though bees were disappearing in alarming ways and at alarming rates, their population never actually saw a significant decline. The number of honeybee colonies peaked in 1989, at 3.5 million colonies; in 2008, two years after CCD was first characterized, that number dipped to 2.4 million, the worst year for honeybee populations in recorded history. Since their lowest point, honeybee populations in the U.S. have climbed at a modest pace and now stand at 2.7 million colonies…”
===========================Well 2.7 still sounds pretty low compared to 3.5.
At any rate, i dont pay much attention to combine numbers. Its just bees in underwear as far as I’m concerned. I only pay attention to how bees actually sting.
w
vWell, absolute numbers don’t tell the story. It’s the trend.
Besides, maybe 3.5 million was too many bees. Ever think of that?
I, for one, will rest easier knowing that the dangerously unsustainable bee population has been culled to manageable levels.
Thanks to our noble benefactors, the fungicide, and the parasitic Varroa mite.

‘Diabolical whale denies starving shark of life-sustaining snorkeler meat.’

ModeratorI’m a little nervous about replacing 3 of our 4 linebackers. I don’t recall any team ever doing that before.
It makes me nervous too, but apparently inside LBs are not as difficult to replace in Wade’s defense, provided you find the right type.
nittany ram
ModeratorBrilliant.
nittany ram
ModeratorIt would have been nice to be able to resign Watkins, but at least he did’nt sign with the 9ers who were reportedly interested in him.
nittany ram
ModeratorWonder if it means they keep Tavon?
I doubt it simply because Tavon hasn’t shown he can be a true WR in the NFL. He’s no more of a replacement for Watkins than Johnny Hekker is at this point.

w
vWow. Talk about a Massey complex…
nittany ram
ModeratorI listen to NPR while I’m at work. That’s the only mainstream news I listen to. I’m not saying it’s measurably better than any other mainstream news outlet, but like Zooey, I listen to it to see what events the general public is being exposed to.
I get most of my news from just reading around the internet.

ModeratorI remember the very first post I ever read on a Rams message board. It was back in 1998. I picked it first even though it was in the middle of a thread because the name of the poster caught my eye…Great Ram in the Sky. He was responding to a poster named Jack Youngblood (later he went by just JYB). He said “Listen Whippy-dip. Jim Everett could still be a starting QB in this league.” 🙂
He was one of the characters that kept me posting on that old PD board. If it wasn’t for him, maybe I wouldn’t have formed the long lasting message board relationship I have today with many of the posters here.
RIP Great Ram in the Sky.
nittany ram
ModeratorWow. I was totally unaware they were even working on that.
I’ll have to process that for a while.
Hard for me to believe it will ever be cheap enough for poor people to afford.
w
vWell, unless they can make it affordable for the masses, it will never become anything more than a novelty.
But I think as technology improves and the process continues to become more efficient, eventually lab grown meat could become cheaper than conventional farm raised meat. For example, think about all the resources and time necessary to grow a cow to maturity. The land, food, and medical requirements, waste generated, etc…

ModeratorYeah, I like Gesicki too (big surprise) but he’s a TE so he’s not really a replacement for Watkins. He’s extremely athletic and would be great in the red zone where the Rams sorta struggle at times.
you’re right. not exactly a like for like replacement. but he’d replace his targets. we all know mcvay loves tight ends. this is guy tests off the charts.
his shorts shuttle and 3-cone times are in. 4.10 seconds and 6.76 seconds. holy cow. this guys is off the charts! it sounds like you’ve seen plenty of this guy. but he produced as well at penn state. his blocking sounds not very good though. still. just let him run routes and catch the ball!
Yeah he’s no blocker and probably will never be. He’s tall but he doesn’t have a big frame. But in the passing game he’s a matchup nightmare.

ModeratorAccording to PFF, 2017 was Quinn’s worst season.
Part of this is due to his injuries, but his play has been in steady decline since 2013.
nittany ram
ModeratorI will say this. For those excited the Rams traded away their long-time tenured Ram and best pass rusher because of the idea of signing Sammy Watkins long-term…You need to realize there are plenty of receivers out there to be had but finding great pass rushers is not easy…
— Downtown Rams (@DowntownRams) March 2, 2018
This isn't even to knock Sammy or Quinn. Quinn is good and Sammy is probably the better player. However, once again, it's about value. Quinn would instantly be the best EDGE on the market if he hit FA today. Even with all of the injury and production concerns.

ModeratorAll West Virginia public schools remain closed as teachers continue to strike
All 680 public schools in West Virginia are closed for the third day as thousands of teachers walked out to fight for higher wages and benefits — a first in the state’s history. According to the National Education Association, WV educators are the 48th lowest-paid in the country.
And with that WV became the only state in the country to effectively protect its children from a mass shooting at school.

ModeratorThis is concerning…
Peters played his position well last season but suddenly developed a distaste for physical contact, as if he was playing not to get hurt. Some of his actions in his efforts to avoid contact bordered on the comical.
Sounds like Peters could be a challenge for McVay and Phillips.
But if it works out, the Rams have perhaps the best cover corner in football locked up for two years at a bargain price.
