ParticipantAs I recall no one was putting those games on Foles. For example, if Kendricks had held on to the ball against the Steelers, Rams would have won.
Correct, penalties also a huge factor…… not many people pinned those on Foles, but Foles is not the guy go out to make a thrown to win a game or even manage a win…… he needs flawless execution from everyone for that to happen, as it did vs AZ and Sea… it also happened in GB and Minnesota but Foles did nothing to win those… he lost them…. but I can’t have it both ways, I feel if he played in Baltimore, or at least in the 4th quarter, the Rams win vs the Ravens……I was looking forward to see what Case had to offer in Baltimore, but after seeing him, I wanted Foles back….. Now I want Bradford back even more….
joemad
ParticipantGreen Bay is not the turning point for Foles….
Foles pre-GB…. his numbers vs Arizona and Seattle sku those pre-GB numbers, because Foles wasn’t very good vs Pittsburgh and in Washington ….
Foles benefited from 3 turnovers vs Seattle and got 146 yards rushing from Gurley in Arizona..
The Rams cannot put the game on Foles’ shoulders, because when they do, they lose. He had chances in Washington, Pittsburgh, and in Minnesota… he wasn’t even a “game manager” in those games…….

ParticipantWhen I was growing up in central PA during the 70’s, the Rams weren’t highly regarded by a lot of people. I’m sure this was mostly due to the fact that we never got to see them play. On those rare occasions when we did get to see them they were usually losing a playoff game. The perception was they couldn’t win big games, so they garnered little respect. People had the impression that the Rams padded their record against the weaklings in their division (Falcons, 49’ers and Saints) and then were exposed in the playoffs. Of course,
1) Just like in the 80’s where you could predict the Lakers and Celtics would be in the the NBA finals, you could easily predict the divisional winners in the 1970’s NFL
2) The Rams had weaklings in the divsion, but so did the Vikings, and the Cowboys, as did the Raiders, the Steelers, and the Dolphins….. Folks tend to forget that there was football in Green Bay after Bart Starr and before Brett Farve, and it wasn’t very good. Bob Avelinni was the best QB the Bears had before Jim McMahon, and the most famous QB the Lions had during the 70’s was Alan Alda and who could forget the winless Bucs……… Same goes for the Giants and Eagles in the NFC East, Same with the Patriots, Colts, and Jets in the AFC East, same with the Oilers, Browns and Bengals in the AFC Central…..they were not very good teams for the majority of the 1970’s…Sure, every once in a while, Air Coryell would work in STL and SD, but Tommy Prothro in SD and Gene Stallings in STL were not exactly Tom Landry…..
joemad
ParticipantBad teams find ways to lose….. Baltimore has benefitted from that 2 weeks in a row…….
joemad
ParticipantBut, it doesn’t matter anyway: The only thing the owner is interested in right now is how he can get out of St. Louis. I wouldn’t think he’d change the head coach or GM until after he can make a move.
I think you’re correct on 2 points:
1) That was Stan’s M.O. in Denver with the Nuggets… kept George Karl for about 10 years… i think Stan likes stability at HC.
2) I think he likes Fisher to help manage a potential move like Fisher did when he replaced Jack Pardee in Houston when the Oilers moved to Tenn…..At this time, Stan’s priority is his potential real estate empire in LA to attract furture $$$$$
Jeff Fisher doesn’t cut it as a head coach in the NFL…..
joemad
Participant1) The Rams are a head coach away from being a serious contender….Need an HC, I’m done with Fisher… It’s not the game passed him by, because in order for the game to pass him by, he needed to be ahead of the game at one time in his career in order for that to happen…..I don’t think Fisher has the skills to implement a plan……, to me he’s a glorified special teams coach…..his most famous plays are the Music City Miracle, Hekker punt fakes, and using Tavon as a decoy against the Colts…..
2) Need better talent evaluators, if these guys made the trade for Foles, thinking he was a legit QB or going out of the their way to get Head Case Keenum back in camp, then these guys need to bring Don Klosterman back from the dead….. the RAMS need talent eval guys who can find talent in the mid rounds…. this staff hasn’t done it for the skill positions…and the FAs (Kenny Brit and Dane Cook) are Fisher bonus moody babies from Fisher’s past life that are not difference makers…..
The past month of football has been a snapshot of the Rams ability, they can’t win the close game in OT, nor hold a 4th quarter 10 point lead……and they have been blown out in the other 2 games…..
“Fisher ball” is supposed to win those close games or at least protect a 10 point lead like they had in Baltimore.
Is Marty Schottenheimer too old to be HC? He can turn this fucking shit around….
EVERY NFC WEST TEAM HAS BEEN TO THE SUPERBOWL SINCE 2008, EXCEPT FOR THE RAMS…SINCE 2008, the RAMS haven’t sniffed the playoffs…..

ParticipantHappy Birthday SD… I hope the boat is running well enough to troll for some monster fish!!!

Participant* how much do you hold Fisher responsible for the Keenum concussion incident? Or what’s your take on that?
* as for the team and its record, is Fisher now in danger of losing his job?
* who should start at qb? Keenum, Foles, Mannion?
–
On Keenum concussion, I was listening to game live on the Ravens radio broadcast. Ravens broadcast team only said that Case was slow to get up…. but when I re-watched the game, it was clear that the ref should’ve stopped the boxing match or at least give Case a standing 8 count. Case was a rag doll…. If refs didn’t see it, and Ravens radio team didn’t notice it live, then I can’t blame Fisher.
Fisher losing his job…. Kronke stayed with coach George Karl forever with the Denver Nuggets before finally canning him… I think he shows patience with Fisher, especially if the Rams move to LA, based on Fisher experience with a move from Houston to Tenn.
As far as starting this Sunday Can Jeff Garcia suit up????????… I think I’d go with Foles… Case has a concussion and he did very little to impress anyone in Baltimore.. he FUCKING SUCKED the entire 3rd quarter last week…. Mannion threw a lot of picks in college and with the holes in the offensive line it’s not a good a idea to put a rookie back there this week… it’s slim, but there is still hope this season, the NFC 2nd tier teams are pretty weak.

ParticipantGurley never had a breakaway run; his longest carry was 7 yards, and the Rams did not seem likely to win under those conditions. They seemed even less likely while getting Gurley 6 carries over most of the second half of a game they should have been putting away.
I didn’t realize Gurley only had 6 carries in the 2nd half…. You’re up 13-3 in the 4th quarter, you need to get more than 6 carries to your feature back in the 2nd half.
Lance Kendricks (2-43) got wide open on the backside of a fake rollout play and put the Rams up 13-3 with a 30-yard TD catch…..The TD call to Kendricks was a sweet one I think Josh McDaniels ran a few times here. Fake play-action rollout, come back to the TE on the backside.
That play has worked well this season for the Rams, when they’re able to actually execute it…..
Cignetti definitely caught them expecting pass and got that drive off to a good start. Despite those moments, this just wasn’t a cohesive gameplan. Don’t get away from plays that work and keep going back to plays that don’t. Seems like that should be Coaching 101.
other than not utilizing Gurley with a 13-3 lead in the 4th, I’m not sure you can blame Cigs much… I mean, what plays can you call when your QB is in spaz panic mode and not throwing anything close to a completed pass during most of the 2nd and 3rd qtr?.. what exactly can you call when your QB is overwhelmed playing like that? Case did not look anything close to decent QB… very disappointing that this is the depth they have a QB…..horrible QB play this season
joemad
ParticipantWell that will save on the Direct TV bill.
That’s funny… I gave up on Sunday Ticket this year………..
joemad
Participantwhat was the substance that Bailey was suspended 4 games for?
joemad
ParticipantI agree with ZN, I am not surprised with what happened in Baltimore.
It’s too bad that the Rams didn’t get anytype of decent play from Foles the past 6 weeks.
Any type of consistency from Foles this season would result in a team that would be in the thick of the playoff hunt….
Foles is who I thought he was when the trade happened….. The same guy that I saw last year in SF and vs STL…. he’s a lousy QB
joemad
ParticipantThank god!
When I read the title, I thought I was going to find out he hurt his back in practice.
I had the same thought….

LaramWhen you are good within the division but bad outside…its coaching.
In division = familiarity. You know who yoiur opponent is, and what they do.
Outside the division = Requires more preparation and game planning
Coaching.
——————————————–Jim Tomsula is 3-2 outside the division…….
but I agree, Jeff Fisher needs to go…
At 72 years old, do you think Marty Schottenhiemer has anything left?

ParticipantFoles puts way too much air under some of his deep balls, and did here, but it still should have been caught for a big gain.
Yes, Foles hangs the ball up too long…. doesn’t consistently hit his receivers in stride….
Hekker adjusted, though, and drilled at least 4 punts 50 yards or more, including a 60-yarder in OT, all into the teeth of Typhoon Fran. The only problem with that last one was coverage letting Marcus Sherels scoot about 25 yards up the sideline with it to midfield. Minnesota didn’t have to go far to win the game from there
That was the killer… Fisher claims a non-call penalty (block on the back) on the return…. The Vikes deferring the coin toss in OT is telling, the Rams offense puts no fear in anyone…
Jay Cutler have quickly restored their old chemistry. Jeffery was over 100 yards with a TD in his first two games back.
Cutler had a very solid game last Monday…..joemad
ParticipantWhat was the substance that got Baily suspended.
Can Welker play QB?
joemad
ParticipantHappy Birthday…. any relation to Whitey?
joemad
Participantthis offense on 3rd down is horrible.
Just punt on 3rd down please, Hekker has a better chance at converting a 3rd down with the special teams unit than Foles does with the offense.
Foles doesn’t cut it……

ParticipantGiant’s fan take on Vikes Rams game
“Should’ve pick Gurley instead of flowers”joemad
Participantit all depends on who the RAMS get for these draft picks.
I wasn’t happy when the Rams drafted Bradford, but he won me over his rookie season (ROY) and moreso in 2012. Right before he got hurt in Carolina, he was having a great season……
Only 5 starting QBs have a lower completion rate that 60% and Foles is one of them. Foles passing attempts is one of the lowest in the league, that’s why and his sack percentage is higher than Bradford’s.
I think Foles is not the long term answer….. I hope I’m wrong.
In regards to thinking if Bradford would have survived the Green Bay game, Foles certainly didn’t, I can’t remember seeing a Rams qb play that badly.

ParticipantNice avatar, this is good too…….. need one in throwback colors…..
I just had a harvest… no chemicals and no worm infestation.

Participantlong time Rams fans have a bad taste of the Ram playoff loses to the Vikings during the 70’s, but Ram fans rarely mention this Viking playoff game.
December 26, 1988
Vikings safety Joey Browner recorded two interceptions in the first quarter to set up a two touchdown lead that the Rams could never recover from. Browner also finished the game with 7 tackles, had the Vikings only sack of the day, and recovered a Rams onside kick attempt to seal the win
Browner’s first interception, on 3rd and 17 from the Vikings 32, led to a Minnesota 73-yard drive that featured Wade Wilson’s 34-yard completion to reserve receiver Jim Gustafso and was capped by running back Alfred Anderson’s 7-yard rushing touchdown. Then on the first play of the Rams next drive, Browner intercepted another pass from Jim Everett and returned it 14 yards to the Los Angeles 17-yard line, where Allen Rice took it in for a touchdown on the next play.
In the second quarter, the Rams had three chances to score, but only managed to get any points once. First, Mike Lansford missed a 41-yard field attempt (later matched by a 44-yard miss by Minnesota’s Chuck Nelson). Then they drove to a 3rd and 1 on the Vikings 30 and were stopped for no gain on consecutive running plays. But just before halftime, Everett led the team 70 yards to cut the lead in half at 14-7 with his 3-yard touchdown pass to tight end Damone Johnson.
Minnesota took the second half kickoff and moved the ball all the way to the end zone with a 1-yard touchdown run by Anderson, going back up by two touchdowns at 21-7. The Rams countered with a 33-yard field goal from Lansford, but in the fourth quarter, Wilson completed a 44-yard pass to Anthony Carter on the LA 5-yard line. On the next play, he threw a touchdown pass to tight end Carl Hilton, giving the team a 28-10 lead and essentially putting the game out of reach. The Rams managed one more touchdown with 1:11 left in the game on Everett’s 11-yard throw to tight end Pete Holohan, but Browner recovered their onside kick attempt and the Vikings ran out the rest of the clock.
Wilson finished the game with 253 passing yards and a touchdown, while Carter caught 4 passes for 102 yards. Rams linebacker Kevin Greene had 3 sacks.

ParticipantGurley was interviewed via phone on Mike and Mike this morning.
quick story, as a freshman in HS, he decided to take a break from football and focus on basketball.
Gurley went to the football field during practice one day looking for a ride home from one of his buddies. The football coach wouldn’t let him leave without joining the team to resume his football playing days in HS.
he’s looking forward to play vs the Vikings and child beater Peterson this week.
Thanked the o-line and downfield blocking from WR’s for his recent success.

the play calling and kind of routes the team is running is revealing to me.
That was a great summary and insightful point of view….
joemad
Participantbut good grief, that crew needs a conference for everything
it was the case last year when the teams met at Levi Stadium ….CK7 fumbled the snap on the goal line to seal Rams victory.
Jerome had a conference for every flag or questionable call there too…….. remember when Tavon danced on the goal line on a missed FG right before half and was tackled in the endzone, luckily, the Rams escaped that one.
Jerome and his crew need to work on being a little more concise.
BTW, win or lose I look forward to your posts every week.
joemad
ParticipantThe key call Boger got right was to reverse the Cunningham fumble TD in the 3rd for Brooks’ facemasking infraction. Get that wrong and we’re looking at a much different game.
huge penalty call….., I’m glad Jerome got that call corrected. However, I would not have given the refs a B-. They kinda sucked.
joemad
Participantimagine if Gurley got hurt on that cement warning track…..
