If it were possible, I would have loved to have done a three way trade with the Falcons and Titans, where we could of got Taylor Lewan from the Titans.

Rams are out of Julio Jones chase
Posted by Mike Florio on May 30, 2021, 4:13 PM EDT

At a time when the list of teams potentially interested in Falcons receiver Julio Jones is growing, there’s one team that, per a source with knowledge of the dynamics, can be removed from the list.

    The Rams.

A late arrival in the broader discussion about possible destinations, the Rams have indeed explored the possibility. G.M. Les Snead worked in the Atlanta front office when the Falcons made their move to get Jones a decade ago. Besides, the Rams have a history of pulling off eye-popping moves that entail swapping draft picks for proven commodities.

That said, they don’t have a first-round pick until 2024, and they may not want to give up other picks in 2022 and/or 2023 — especially since the next two first-round picks already are destined for Detroit. The Rams also have had cap issues this year, and there are many easy ways to create cap space via restructurings. A new contract for Jones could be the best way, converting most of his $15.3 million base salary to a signing bonus and spreading it over multiple years.

The bigger question is need. They have Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp, DeSean Jackson, 2020 second-rounder Van Jefferson, and 2021 second-rounder Tutu Atwell. Maybe Jefferson (just spitballing) would be included in the trade package, if it were to happen.

Regardless, we’re told that it’s not. The Rams are out. That’s not a firm guarantee they won’t get back in. For now, they’re out.

I was hoping we could do a three way deal, which we could get Taylor Lewan from the Titans. But not sure how we could do it.

I wonder how are cap looks like next year? Will we have to make some cap cuts? I still wish if it was possible to trade Kupp or Woods, for a late first, early second to get OLine help. Especially at LT & Center. I do believe that we can sign David Edwards, Bobby Evans, & Coleman to 2024, for cheap. I still would love for us to sign Joe Looney, to a one year deal. He would be a great fit at Center, should Austin Corbett fail.

It might be a bit unusual, but Kevin Cranberry’s technique of blocking, is picking up and putting down a pillow.

When should we start talking about the Rams and the 2022 draft? Just wondering. We will have to draft heavy on the OLine.

Among the biggest free agents in 2022 are D-Will, DeSean, Corbett, SJD, Noteboom.

Rams are currently *over* a projected salary cap of $203M by $873K. So they have some work to do still.

That doesn’t include our RFAs and ERFAs as well.

Hopefully he can add on an extra 10-20 pounds. Right now he is 6’7″ 300. So he is too light to be on the OLine, except for Center

One UDFA I would love to sign. His weaknesses are not that hard to fix.

    Name: Kion Smith
    College: Fayetteville State
    Hometown: Lumberton, NC
    Class: R-Senior
    Height: 6′ 6″
    Weight: 315 lbs

    Bio
Smith did not get a chance to play his senior year at Fayetteville State because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, NFL scouts saw enough of his play in 2019 to have interest in his talent. He was a first-team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection that year, starting 11 games at left tackle (while also acting as the backup long snapper). Smith did not play in 2018 due to injury. He did start 10 games at left tackle as a true freshman in 2016, however, just one year after playing at Lumberton High School in North Carolina. Smith started five of six games played at left tackle the following season. — by Chad Reuter

    Overview
Small school developmental tackle who is lacking in technique and play strength. Smith is a project at this point, but he has a favorable body type, including the length that NFL teams covet at tackle. He has decent quickness as a run blocker and shows good fluidity working his combo blocks up to the linebacker. His hand usage and placement is all over the place and must be corrected before he can ever see the field. He has better upside than most of the potential priority free agents at his position and could end up as a practice squad player early in his career while a team tries to coach him up.

    Strengths
*Proportional, athletic frame with excellent arm length.
*Plays with enough quickness to win races to the spot.
*Capable to pull and cut with some effectiveness.
*His ability to sustain blocks will see a big jump if he gets his hands right.
*Good radar to connect with pop on second level.
*Maintains proper base throughout slide phase.
*Length will become bigger factor with additional coaching.

    Weaknesses
*Played at a lower level of competition.
    *Explosion testing was very disappointing.
*Hands land way up high on opponent’s frame.
*Lacks technique fitting into his run blocks.
*Needs to learn to keep his pads under his feet.
    *Lunging opens inside rush counters.
*Needs to live in the weight room early on.

I still see Ben Skowronek on another teams roster. Funk has had two ACL tears in college. I have a hard time seeing him on a roster. Hell, Funk may get injured just putting on his uniform for the first Rams training camp.
