from https://theramswire.usatoday.com/2020/05/24/nfl-rams-right-tackle-havenstein-evans/
a quote from that article.
Evans is a lock to be on the roster and has been mentioned as a potential heir to Andrew Whitworth at left tackle, so if Havenstein does win the right tackle job, Evans will stick around as the swing tackle.
if they can pull that off, kudos to them. if they really think that then maybe evans should play at left guard this season like noteboom did last season in preparation for moving outside within the next couple of years.
whit evans blythe edwards havenstein
that’s not bad. i really believe hav will come back just fine this season. in the future. left tackle and center are still big question marks for me. i really wished they had picked cleveland. what with the rams originally being from cleveland and all. it only makes sense, right? seriously though. he has the potential of being a star at a very important position. in the second round? i don’t see how you pass that up. let him build up strength and soak up all of whit’s wisdom. oh well.
bobby evans certainly has the size and length. i just don’t know if he has the athleticism.
InvaderRamModeratorThe #Rams were reportedly close to pulling the trigger on OT Ezra Cleveland. Cleveland wouldn’t have started. So, the one high pick the #Rams almost made on the OL would have been for the future. That should tell you something about now.
oh. i just saw this. oh, man. i would have loved cleveland. not just for depth, but i think he really pushes whit for a starting job. a quality left tackle in the second round. i don’t know if the rams should have passed that up. then go for akers or jefferson with the next pick.
InvaderRamModeratori will never get tired of that image of donald leaping out of nowhere and engulfing cam newton. i mean who engulfs cam newton? and cam just crumples to the ground.

InvaderRamModeratorif he’s 2 years younger and went to an fbs school. he’s quite possibly a day 2 draft pick at least. instead he went on 2 year mission between high school and college and he is where he is now. just have this feeling about him.
InvaderRamModeratorfor more perspective on just how dominant his pro day was. there’s this tweet.
To give you an idea of how good Jonah Williams if @weberstatefb Pro Day was:
#1 40 for any DL over 265 that went to Indy
#2 225 for any DE
#1 vert for any DL over 265
#1 broad for any DL over 265
#1 L for ANY DL
#1 shuttle for ANY DL https://t.co/rfvnK6ArsL— Evan Brennan (@EvanTheAgent) March 27, 2020
InvaderRamModeratorA good friend of our family recently died of COVID-19 in a nursing home in Philadelphia. He and his wife had been my parent’s best friends since I was in my teens. Our families vacationed together in the Outer Banks every summer. He was a kind and fun-loving man. He was suffering from Alzheimer’s and had been living with his son’s family, but he started experiencing “Korean War” flashbacks accompanied by a lot of screaming. He was frightening his son’s small children, and not knowing what else to do, they put him in a nursing home. I had not seen him in years, but from what I have heard, Alzheimer’s had taken the man I used to know. He no longer existed. What was left was a frightened, tormented, shell of his former self who didn’t know where he was and didn’t recognize anyone around him. Perhaps this is one case where COVID-19 was a blessing.
thanks for sharing that. that was sad to read. and i hope your family friends are ok.
May 23, 2020 at 2:04 pm in reply to: on Staley & the NUMBER ONE RATED defense … VERY updated #115244InvaderRamModeratori really think both those guys get drafted if there wasn’t the pandemic and teams could travel to pro days. get to see these guys in person. they are both legitimate freak athletes.
May 23, 2020 at 2:02 pm in reply to: on Staley & the NUMBER ONE RATED defense … VERY updated #115243InvaderRamModeratorDo you mean Hoecht or Williams or both?
both. they are both physical specimens.
williams at outside linebacker.
hoecht i see as a 3-4 end.
ultimately. not now. i don’t expect hoecht to be a starter in year one. but eventually i’d like to see him take over brockers’ starting spot.
i salivate at the thought of donald and hoecht playing defensive end and williams and lewis as edge defenders. that’s some serious athleticism there.
it remains to be seen if lewis, williams, and hoecht can develop into what i think they could become. but that’s what i envision in the future.
InvaderRamModeratorI purtymuch hate them. But they are exactly what i thought they would look like. I know how corps think 🙂
They will appeal to the young fans.
My own aesthetic was formed a long time ago, and it hasn’t changed and it wont change, and the new uniforms suck, and the corporation that designed them sucks, and the corporation that hired the corporate-designers sucks.
These are good uniforms. Here. They cant be made ‘new and improved’. No PR bullshit or marketing can change that 🙂
well shoot. there ya go. white jersey and pants with the blue socks.
ya don’t even like the helmet?
InvaderRamModeratorthe jersey numbers are awful. just awful.
i’m ok with everything else. i really like the helmet especially.
but as the whitworth photo shows. ya gotta go with blue jersey and yellow knickers.
i’d also like to see more bone jersey and bone pants but with the blue socks (which i believe is an option). i think that could be good.
InvaderRamModeratorwow. well i was pretty close. 33.5″ is long enough i would think. von miller has 33.5″ arms. jonah also measured in with 10 1/8″ hands.
here were von’s measurements from his combine.
6’3″ 246 pounds
arm length – 33.5″
hand size – 9.25″
bench press – 21 reps
vertical – 37″
broad – 10’6″
40 – 4.53
short shuttle – 4.06
3 cone – 6.70mind you. jonah williams is doing this at 281 pounds. 35 pounds more than miller.
here’s some other pass rushers and their measurables. again williams is 281 pounds.
shaquil barrett
6’2″ 251 pounds
arm length and hand size unknown
bench press – 16 reps
vertical – 29″
broad – 9’5″
40 – 4.73
short shuttle – 4.42
3 cone – 6.90chandler jones
6’5″ 266 pounds
arm length – 35.5″
hand size – 9.75″
bench press – 22 reps
vertical – 35″
broad – 10’
40 – 4.87
short shuttle – 4.38
3 cone – 7.07danielle hunter
6’5″ 252 pounds
arm length – 34.5″
hand size – 10.5″
bench press – 25 reps
vertical – 35″
broad – 10’10.5″
40 – 4.57
short shuttle – 4.35
3 cone – 6.95joey bosa
6’5″ 269 pounds
arm length – 33.375″
hand size – 10.25″
bench press – 28 reps
vertical – 32″
broad – 10’1″
40 – 4.77
short shuttle – 4.21
3 cone – 6.89his numbers are right there with all of them. so while it doesn’t guarantee success, he does have the physical attributes to succeed at this level. it just comes down to if he has the mental attributes.

InvaderRamModeratorwell. the vertical and the broad jump measure explosion. the 40 measures speed. i would like to know what his 10 yard split was. the last two measure agility and quickness.
to put those numbers in perspective. his numbers are on par with john johnson… who is 70 pounds lighter…
his numbers are better than chandler jones. across the board except for broad jump. whether that translates into the same kind of production remains to be seen. and chandler jones is long. 35″ arms. i can only guess what williams’ arm length is but i would guess at least 33″.
but you look at those numbers. better than robert quinn. joey bosa. if you had to build an edge rusher from scratch, williams (with the exception of arm length) fits the bill in every way.
i’m really curious what his arm length is. they look long in the video. if they are 34″. he’s got all the physical tools. then it’s just a question of if he has the mental makeup to be that dominant pass rusher.
InvaderRamModeratorat this point i have complete trust in any defensive back they draft.
so you have fuller, rapp, jj, and burgess all as options at safety. shoot we can even expect to see ramsey at safety.
at the very least fuller should be excellent on special teams.
InvaderRamModeratori’m thinking this guy is the eventual replacement for jj. i like jj but with the rams’ uncanny ability to draft dbs i’m just not sure they should be spending money on a safety. gotta re-sign ramsey. and then there’s kupp on the other side.
InvaderRamModeratorras (relative athletic score) for cam akers.
InvaderRamModeratorCameron DaSilva@camdasilva
I asked the Rams about mixing and matching their uniforms in 2020, and they don’t plan to do that. So this combination won’t be happening.which combination would that be?
InvaderRamModeratornot that the 10 yard split automatically sets akers up for success. but. going back to metcalf. he had a pretty good season after a largely unimpressive college career. wasn’t even considered the best wr on his own team by some.
had a promising rookie season though. started 15 of 16 games for the seahawks.
58 catches for 900 yards and 7 tds.
in the playoffs he broke the rookie record playoff debut with 160 yards on 7 receptions and a td.
so i’ll hold out some hope. rams coaches and scouts seem to love and praise this guy’s attitude and character. so there’s that as well. and he couldn’t ask for a better coach than mcvay on offense.
InvaderRamModeratoranother thing on akers’ 10 yard split. and just how fast it was.
here’s an article by frelund on nfl.com. the fastest 10 yard split she’s recorded since 2003 is 1.45 by dk metcalf. i have others list his 10 yard split as 1.48. but let’s go with 1.45. akers was 1.47. that’s fast.
1.45 seconds
D.K. Metcalf’s 10-yard split of his 4.33-second 40-yard dash clocked in at 1.45 seconds. This is the fastest 10-split by any combine runner in my database (starting in 2003). For some context, this is faster than Julio Jones’ 1.50 10-yard split and 4.42 second 40-yard dash and they are similar heights: Metcalf checked in at 6-3 3/8 and 228 pounds, while Jones was 6-2 3/4 and 220 pounds. I don’t mean to suggest they are the same; I am only saying that results like Metcalf’s help generate more positive momentum, countering his injury history at Ole Miss.https://www.nfl.com/news/2019-nfl-scouting-combine-twelve-numbers-that-matter-most-0ap3000001021021

InvaderRamModeratorone other thing. i decided to look at cam akers ypc and compare it to the rest of the team.
so in 2019
cam akers – 1144 yards on 231 carries for 5.0 ypc
fsu team – 1829 yards on 477 carries for 3.8 ypc
so fsu without akers – 685 yards on 246 carries for 2.8 ypcin 2018
cam akers – 706 yards on 161 carries for 4.4 ypc
fsu team – 1093 yads on 392 carries for 2.8 ypc
so fsu without akers – 387 yards on 231 carries for 1.7 ypclastly in 2017
cam akers – 1024 yards on 194 carries for 5.3 ypc
fsu team – 2024 yards on 463 carries for 4.4 ypc
so fsu without akers – 1000 yards on 269 for 3.7 ypci think some of this is to be expected since akers was clearly more talented than the other runners. and if you look at the other running backs in this class, you see similar trends. but it also shows you how poor that oline was. i mean 1.7 ypc without akers??? that can’t be good. 2019 wasn’t much better.
we’ll see.

InvaderRamModeratorafter pouring over combine stats for years now, i think a 1.47 10 yard split is pretty special for a man of his weight. and a full 10th faster than any other RB at that combine?
it’s actually elite. most rbs are in the 1.50 range or higher. i’ve seen one below that. edgerrin james ran his split in 1.40.
even a guy like lesean mccoy was in the 1.5’s. it’s for sure in the elite range.
his short shuttle time is very mediocre though. 4.43. that’s very slow. now i don’t know what happened there. very strange. maybe he slipped? but you’d expect at least in the 4.2 range. and it seems to be a pretty good indicator at least for rbs. we’ll see. peterson only ran a 4.40 short shuttle compared to a 4.41 40. kamara only ran a 4.35 short shuttle. so again. there’s exceptions.
by the way peterson only had a 1.57 10 yard split. so that just shows the type of burst that akers has.
i can just see it. his nickname should be “can run for”.
bwahahahaha!
InvaderRamModeratorThe team has moved away from “excellent at what he does” type of players to “very good at multiple roles” type of players.
and burgess fits that bill to a t. rapp and jj too.
“Terrell is like the football equivalent of a Swiss Army knife,” said Utah coach Kyle Whittingham. “He’s able to do so many things and play so many positions.”
During his time with the Utes, Burgess saw time at cornerback, nickel back, free safety, strong safety, wide receiver and on all special teams units. Intelligence and an ability to learn quickly are other attributes of note.
“His ability to play multiple positions and do multiple things is why you have seen his value skyrocket,” said defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley. “That and he is one of the smartest football players that scouts will interview.
InvaderRamModeratori think he’s got a couple more seasons of solid production left in him.
by productive i mean 1200 yards from scrimmage. in the right situation. but probably not the dominant runner he was in 2017 and 2018.
InvaderRamModeratorBlue jerseys, yellow knickers, blue socks and off-white jerseys, off-white knickers, blue socks will be alternates.
of the four options i would prefer these two. although i would like to see them try out the off-white jersey with the blue knickers and blue socks.

InvaderRamModeratormikeguman
I watched him play at SDSU. He is a sideline to sideline do it all inside linebacker. He is a sure tackler who can cover man to man. He is a bit slight but so is Littleton. The kid can play and I think he may have been a captain as well?
He comes from an area of NW Iowa that is know for producing great athletes. Look at his HS RB highlights. Check out his hands. The kid is a great athlete. He isn’t that big but he is a sure tackler. Watch his technique … very solid 21st century tackling. I will be surprised if he does not make the team.
Take a look at his bio. Rozeboom is an all-around great athlete with incredible production at one of the best schools in his division.
yeah. he reminds me of littleton. not only a sure tackler. but he made a ton of splash plays. sacks, interceptions, forced fumbles, fumble recoveries you name it. i can even see him be a standout on special teams.
InvaderRamModeratortanzel smart was probably not needed. they still got greg gaines no? and now they got robinson.
plus i got a feeling about this hoecht kid. not at nose tackle. but i think he could play 3-4 defensive end. long and lots of athleticism.
InvaderRamModeratorProFootballTalk@ProFootballTalk
Before shedding tears for Stan Kroenke over the fact this his football stadium is grossly over budget and his hockey, basketball, and soccer teams aren’t playing and his football team may have reduced revenues, remember this: He married into the Wal-Mart family. He’ll be fine.is anyone anywhere shedding tears for stan kroenke?
InvaderRamModeratorAnd only the fact that he entered the league in 2014 is keeping him from being the top spot on the entire list.
teehee!
InvaderRamModeratorhe doesn’t think gurley is quite done yet and a lot of the problems were due to oline problems and defenses adjusting to mcvay’s offense.
I am a bigger critic of that vid than you are.
He does not account for and does not even seem to know about the fact that physically TG is not the same back.
Most of us know that he has an issue with an arthritic knee.
This guy does not even seem to realize that.
perhaps. he acknowledges at the end that gurley is not the same back he was the previous two seasons. i took it as him saying we don’t know what kind of gurley we’ll see in 2020. if he is running behind the kind of lines he was running behind in 2017 and 2018, falcons fans could be pleasantly surprised. and i am inclined to agree with him.
doesn’t mean we’ll see a 2017 or 2018 gurley. which he acknowledges. but a version significantly better than 2019 gurley.
InvaderRamModeratori’m still processing it…
hahahaha!
the bone road jerseys are growing on me. they need to break it up with either the blue socks or just go all blue pants and blue socks with the bone white jersey.
my main contention as i said before is the gradient numbers. they’re just awful.
my feeling is they’ll look better when they’re actually playing on the field. but they gotta change the numbers, man. they just gotta change those numbers.
InvaderRamModeratorthe jersey numbers are horrible. they need to just go to a solid color.
they also need to match the blue jersey with they yellow pants and the bone jersey with the blue pants. that could work.
they still look like power rangers.
