Moderatorsorry i was wrong that was young’s third sack? anyway. if they can pair him with another edge rusher, that could be fun to watch.
InvaderRam
Moderatoryeah, kyren williams. what a player. so tough. and cooper kupp too. puka had one bad drop in the endzone. but he usually catches those.
and byron young! first sack. and a forced fumble on the play too! just need to partner him up with someone on the other side. and witherspoon again has a great game.
and congrats to mcvay for adjusting in the second half.
one of the worst halves they’ve had this season followed by the one of the best.
InvaderRam
Moderatori often forget about the brandin cooks era of rams football.
InvaderRam
Moderatorplus he’s young and still raw. i think with kupp he came in already pretty polished. sure there was still a learning curve but he had a pretty high floor.
i think nacua has a lot of potential still to tap into.
InvaderRam
ModeratorPlus, this is the kind of game Jeff Fisher would lose. …I dont know what that means, either, but it needed to be said.
you mean it’s a trap game? a game the rams could easily take for granted and underachieve? yeah i could see that and it would be a huge setback.
InvaderRam
Moderatori like goff. i’m glad he’s doing well. i’ll always root for him.
i don’t know that he does what stafford did on that super bowl run. three game winning drives in the playoffs. one of the most clutch performances ever? and it wasn’t a fluke with stafford. does goff do that? i don’t know.
at the time though i would have preferred goff stay. but i also preferred gurley to stay healthy and be able to play out his career with the rams.
InvaderRam
Moderatorwhile i wasn’t surprised by the eagles loss, i’d be very surprised if they lost this game. at home. i’d consider it a disaster.
InvaderRam
Moderatori don’t think it was conditioning. and the defense actually played better in the second half than the first half.
i can’t remember who it was in the post-game show. but he was commenting how the eagles defense was playing man in the first half. at the beginning of the second half they switched to zone and the pass rush then started getting to matthew a bit more. on top of that olineman were going down to injury. and the offense stalled. didn’t score a single point in the second half. so the defense held the eagles to only 6 points in the second half despite the eagles dominating the ball. sounds like it was eagles defense making second half adjustments and the rams offense failing to counter that but also having to weather injuries.
and then of course the rams defense made some critical errors. especially before the first half ended – kendrick. also i think the rams defense could have tackled better. too many broken tackles for extra yardage. but easy for me to say. i’m not out there running and chasing guys around the field.
InvaderRam
Moderatoralso. rams defense really needs to wrap up when they tackle. there were a couple of times at least they just tried to spear the ball carrier, and he would just glance off them and keep running. wrap with your arms. if you can’t immediately bring him down, wait for help. like on that hurts run. young’s gotta wrap his legs and take him down. am i wrong on that?
InvaderRam
Moderatorwell. the eagles are supposed to have the best lines offensive and defensive in the entire league? so the rams won’t always have to face that. but having said that, i think that should be the focus of the rams for next offseason. strengthening both sides of the lines. i think matthew was fine until his protection petered out. i think kupp got a little leggy there at the end. but that can’t be too surprising. nacua had his first big blunder but otherwise was solid. i think the receiving corps will be fine. i think the tight ends will be fine. kyren williams ran tough. i like him. but he needs help. but that shouldn’t be too difficult to find him help. the secondary was getting gashed but hurts had forever to throw the ball. again that comes down to the dline. but they also need another edge rusher. young was close but couldn’t quite close the deal. he was also going against a helluva qb.
improve the oline. improve the dline. add another edge rusher. find another running back to pair with williams. but yeah. they’re closer than i thought they were before the season began.

ModeratorWell, we have no idea if Kupp is gonna be Kupp. Or half-Kupp. w v
i wanna be hopeful. i just wonder about stafford and the oline. not worried about kupp. but i am worried about how stafford holds up.

Moderatorthat’s very encouraging.
i’d say that the rams’ biggest needs at this point are edge rusher, dline, offensive tackle, and running back.
InvaderRam
Moderatorhow healthy is stafford and the oline?

ModeratorI thought Puka Nacua was DANI DANI ROJAS!

Moderator#Rams WR Puka Nacua was still trying to make it back to the locker room when HC Sean McVay was giving out game balls, which included one for Nacua.
McVay: "Where's Puka Nacua at?"
… And then he comes in and the team goes crazy. Love it.

ModeratorNacua is so much like the rookie-Kupp. I hope he learns when and how ‘not’ to fight for more yardage. Ike could teach him a thing or two.
my fear is that he can’t stay healthy. that’s the one thing about kupp i don’t like. as good as kupp is he’s only had two 1000 yard seasons in six. mainly because he can’t stay on the field. he could easily have five in six if he could play all the games. four in six if he had just stayed somewhat healthy.
avila has looked good too. i think he might have given up one sack yesterday? but the first four games he’s looked good. best olineman since rodger saffold?
InvaderRam
Moderatori hope there’s a mic’d up for the game winning drive today? that’d be interesting to see.
InvaderRam
Moderatorhad to watch the game later as i was on the road. but wow. stafford. it reminded me of the clip of him playing with an injured shoulder. couldn’t even lift it but kept going back out there and leads his team to a win. i didn’t see the game when it happened since he was a lion but glad i got to see this one. not live but as a rams fan. i’m not quite sure what to make of him. i don’t think he’ll ever be remembered as one of the best of this era of football. guys like mahomes, rodgers, and brady will probably be in those discussions. but i think performances like this will be etched into nfl lore along with the. what was it. three game winning drives in three postseason games to lead the rams to a superbowl? one against a team led by tom brady. one against the rams biggest rivals in the niners. and one in the superbowl including the no look pass to kupp. someone correct me if i’m wrong on the details. maybe not the best. but one of the toughest. one of the most clutch.
and then puka. i don’t think i’ve been as impressed with a rams rookie offensive skill position player since todd gurley. not even kupp. and i know a lot of it is due to stafford. i just saw a tweet where they list the top four receiving seasons through the first four games. puka, megatron, and kupp. i don’t remember the exact order but the point is that their qbs were all stafford. i don’t think it’s a coincidence. and the numbers will also decrease once kupp comes back. i don’t think it’s sustainable. nevertheless very impressive. he’s got a long way to go but he seems to have the mentality and physical ability to be successful. can’t wait to see how it all pans out.

Moderatorand then there’s this quote.
So there was a lot of runs called that unfortunately had to get checked out of it into some passes and some of the results were good and some of them weren’t as good.
so some of those runs were checked into some passes. i don’t know. i think either way. rams were screwed when jackson went out. even if the rams ran it every single time in the red zone the loss of jackson and then noteboom would have been difficult to overcome.
InvaderRam
ModeratorExcept also on Monday, in response to some disasters, McV (IMO) brain froze. I put a lot of that game on coaching too. I just think that for all his brilliance, McV is not always nimble tactically, in the moment. He seems more of a Trust the Plan kinda guy, and less of a “well now that we’re in the moment let’s switch things up” kinda guy.
well as lafleur said in that article above. if the bengals were indeed daring the ram to pass at what point do the rams switch to passing or do they just keep pounding the ball until it doesn’t work? do you have to keep the opposing defense honest and at least respect the possibility of passing? and would they have been effective without jackson there anyway?
but also as wv said mcvay does seem to have the ability to self-criticize. still young in coaching terms. i guess we’ll find out.
InvaderRam
Moderatorjared goff is what? the fifth highest rated passer currently? i’m happy for him.
InvaderRam
Moderatorbeat the colts and then get coop back.
InvaderRam
Moderatorthat’s great news. rams offense was in deep doo doo when jackson went out.
hopefully he comes back healthy. hopefully noteboom. and then next week kupp.
InvaderRam
Moderatoryeah. what everyone else is saying still frustrating though. hopefully jackson isn’t out too long and kupp isn’t out more than four weeks.
InvaderRam
Moderatori think it’s a good sign that mcvay has been willing to change things up. hopefully it works.

ModeratorForgive me if this topic has previously been discussed, but one thing that just dawned on me – not sure why it took this long – is that the Rams follow up this MNF road trip with an away game in Indianapolis. I don’t care how weak the opponents may or may not be, that’s a tough test in the NFL.
with indianapolis not being that far away from cincinnati would it just be better for the rams to stay close and not travel back to los angeles that week?
