InvaderRamModerator
he won’t be missed.
InvaderRamModeratorAfter four games what can
we say about Brian Quick?I am happy about his obvious improvement,
but I’m a little surprised some folks
talk about him in such glowing terms.
I still think he is a tad soft on contested
balls. I havent seen any real ‘britt-like’ fierceness
from him on the field to finish plays.I’m still waiting for Quick to show some
physical tenaciousness.w
vi think he shows that tenaciousness at times. i think that tenaciousness will come through more and more as the season goes on and he gains more confidence.
there was one play in particular yesterday in the first half i think where he attacked the ball aggressively. wanna see more of that. but the difference from the last two years is startling. i didn’t expect it.
he’s already surpassed career highs in receptions, yards, and touchdowns.
InvaderRamModeratoroline was horrible today. i’m wondering when robinson can crack the lineup cuz i’m wondering how he couldn’t make this line better.
all things considered i think davis had a heck of a game.
InvaderRamModeratormy guess is the offense does really well. i don’t know how the defense does, but i think this offense runs all over that philly defense.
InvaderRamModeratori joke. but i do see the rationale behind it.
kinda like pitchers. a lot of baseball people believe long fingers allow the pitcher better control of the ball. and is sometimes more important than “pure arm strength”. kinda like pedro martinez. despite his short stature he had superior stuff cuz his hands and in particular fingers were unusually long for his size.
maybe they should start measuring fingers too… hahaha!
InvaderRamModeratorWow, AD with the one handed grab. Kid is quite an athlete.
Grits
well he does have those gargantuan hands…
InvaderRamModeratorwell it is an interesting hypothesis. the article goes on to say that one big reason that wilson is as good as he is is that he has two crucial attributes – hand size AND mobility.
well davis has the hands. he’s got good mobility. and he’s actually a little taller than wilson.
still. it remains to be seen if he has all the mental attributes than wilson has. that’s what we’ll find out this season.
October 2, 2014 at 1:14 am in reply to: Karraker: Sources say “Decision has Already Been Made” on Rams Moving –101 #8854InvaderRamModeratoryeah. i don’t think it matters where they go at this point. although i’d prefer either los angeles or st. louis.
InvaderRamModeratorit should also be noted that druckenmiller recorded one of the largest hand sizes in recent memory at 11 1/4″. shuler had 10 5/8″ hands. both were flops.
InvaderRamModeratorfirst, here’s the link.

and i got to credit ag for finding this article. or maybe it was someone else. but i think it’s at the very least an interesting hypothesis.
the hypothesis being that a quarterback doesn’t necessarily need elite size to be a good qb. rather large hands are more useful in order to be a successful qb.
the idea behind large hands is that it would allow the qb to better control the ball and throw it accurately. it makes sense. a better grip on the ball would allow the qb to get better spin and make more accurate throws even when he can’t put his entire body or arm into it or the weather conditions make the ball slick. obviously, the latter doesn’t matter as much in a dome.
russell wilson has 10 1/4″ hands. the largest hands included in this article is favre with 10 3/8″ hands. the article also hypothesizes that hand size is an even better predictor of success than height.
davis measured in at the combine at 10 3/8″. i think the largest this year was thomas of virginia tech with 10 7/8″ hands.
obviously, this would only be part of the answer. russell wilson has many other attributes that make him successful. he’s smart, tough, and competitive. his mind probably processes visual information faster than other qbs do. but if davis has the smarts. if he has the competitiveness. if he has the vision. man cuz his physical attributes seem to be optimal for his position.
large hands and agility. interested to see how davis progresses this season.

InvaderRamModeratorever since london left, i’ve been waiting for that dominant middle linebacker for the rams again.
they’ve come close, but i’m still waiting. i sometimes wonder if ogletree could be that guy at some point?

haha!
just joking. who knows? but i hate this limbo either way. i want it settled.
InvaderRamModeratordavis has got those mutant 10 3/8″ hands…
hahahaha!!!!

October 1, 2014 at 7:51 pm in reply to: Karraker: Sources say “Decision has Already Been Made” on Rams Moving –101 #8833InvaderRamModeratorstrange cuz i listened to interview and said that he heard it for a fact. and now he’s saying, “i think.”
so was it his opinion that he heard somebody say it or is it the opinion of his source?
maybe bernie doesn’t want to lose listeners so quickly?
InvaderRamModeratorcool. i like it. the season just became that much more fun to follow. now just gotta get greg on the field.
InvaderRamModeratori’d like to see robinson soon.
doesn’t sound like joseph has exactly been playing all that great.
September 30, 2014 at 8:32 pm in reply to: AEG seeks extension, sites progress in negotiations with the NFL #8766InvaderRamModeratorthe aeg thing i got no clue either. my best guess is a team at hollywood park. and a second team in downtown la? the chargers?
or maybe they’re making a last ditch effort to lure kroenke to downtown los angeles…
September 30, 2014 at 7:45 pm in reply to: AEG seeks extension, sites progress in negotiations with the NFL #8760InvaderRamModeratorwhoa man. is randy the type to just spout out rumors?
and if they move would that be before the 2015 season?
InvaderRamModeratorif i was fisher, i’d focus on improving run defense and offense. and improving turnover differential.
and when i’m talking about improving run offense, i’m not necessarily concerned with total rushing yards but yards per attempt. they rank 20th there.

InvaderRamModeratorand just going back to that rotoworld article. i think ag was the one who originally posted this a long long time ago.
http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/nfl/47036/311/exploring-qb-hand-size
i don’t know if it’s true or not, but the article states that you want three things from a qb in an ideal world. height, hand size, and mobility.
well luck is the prime example of this. in addition to having the intangibles. and being smart. he’s got those three in spades. 6’4″, 10″ hands, elite mobility. he’s the ideal qb. he’s like a freaking robot.
who is the other qb who is regarded as the next elite young qb? russell wilson. he’s got two in spades. hands and mobility.
now i’m not saying that davis is on that level. but i think he’s got two things working in his favor. he’s mobile. and he’s got huge hands. now is this just bogus? possibly. but i have to think those two traits can’t hurt him. and if he’s smart and tough and competitive like russell wilson, i could see a successful qb in the making.

InvaderRamModeratorno actually we agree that ypa is not a pure qb stat. i even pointed it out in my post. and it’s something that davis is gonna have to do over more than just 2 games. but if he can keep that up? then that’s something special to me. and yeah. that’s even with acknowledging that there are more factors that go into that than just the qb.
InvaderRamModeratorwell i would expect hill to be more decisive. he’s a long standing veteran. i think with time davis can become more decisive.
and i do agree that bradford has the better arm. he can throw lasers which davis will probably never be able to do. but his athleticism and his smarts stand out to me. and i’m not sure this offense needs the big armed quarterback. not the way this team is designed.
just one stat i want to throw out because when it comes to everyone else i am very bad at evaluating football. but if i were to look at one STAT that really impressed me in davis’ brief 2 game career, it would be ypa.
davis – again in 2 games – has a ypa of 8.0.
hill – 6.2
bradford – 6.3again. only 2 games. and sam hasn’t enjoyed a supporting cast this good. but shoot. that’s elite ypa. that’s startling to me.
he seems to make the right decisions to me. he can make plays with his feet. the one thing that i haven’t seen is his ability do it over time. again. coaches will find out his strengths and take them away. try to exploit his weaknesses. i want to see if he can continue to improve and counter the moves that defenses will come up with. and in that respect i can understand why fisher would want to stick with hill. you know what you have in him. there’s a comfort zone there.
but davis has enough tangibles and production to stick with him. mostly because he’s younger with possibly more potential to be tapped.
and i also want to add that this guy is athletic. 4.11 short shuttle and 6.73 3-cone. very athletic. his ability to move around. his vision. his smarts. that appeals to me.
and those hands… haha!
InvaderRamModeratorseriously though. he is a very athletic quarterback. or at least he looks more athletic than sam. and his arm is more than adequate. i really would like to see this guy get a real look. he might be the perfect qb for this offense. kinda like a poor man’s russell wilson.

InvaderRamModeratoroh. and one other thing…
he’s got huge hands… 10 3/8″… bigger than russell wilson even… bradford’s are 9 1/2″ by the way.
bwahahaha!!!!
http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/nfl/47036/311/exploring-qb-hand-size
Consider that the NFL average for quarterback hand size is currently 9.6 inches. Well, some of the top “short” quarterbacks (6’2” or shorter) of the past decade have ridiculously large hands—Drew Brees (10.25 inches), Russell Wilson (10.25 inches), Brett Favre (10.38 inches). There are also countless tall quarterbacks with small hands who were drafted highly and failed to live up to expectations.
InvaderRamModeratorthis is a good discussion guys. i don’t know if benching davis is the right idea or not. but i do know one thing.
teams have tons of tape on hill. they know his strengths and weaknesses. and he still has a record of playing well.
they have next to nothing on davis. we’ll find out quickly how good davis really is. unless of course hill comes back and davis never sees the field again.
InvaderRamModeratorwow. very annoying. i somehow find no consolation in that although i’m sure sims does.
InvaderRamModeratori’ll say 10.
InvaderRamModeratorquick and cook have been very good. i think the offense and defense both have the potential to be even better than their current rankings.
now it’s easy to say that, but they gotta actually go out and do it.
but this isn’t an old veteran team where you suspect they’ve actually maxed out their abilities.
on defense they need to tighten up that run defense. get some more turnovers.
on offense they need to get tavon more involved. the offensive line needs more cohesion. hopefully robinson can make an impact soon.
and then yeah. cut down on penalties. and this team could make a run at an above 0.500 record.
InvaderRamModeratorwhat was the nines d like before they became great? seahawks? or the ravens? bucs?
just curious if anyone knows if they had any major bumps or bruises on the way to becoming a great defense.
cuz this sure is discouraging.
one thing this defense needs is consistency at defensive coordinator. they changed that position every year i believe.
InvaderRamModeratorall joking aside. the two seem to have some chemistry going on the field.
davis is obviously playing well.
cook is on track for 80 receptions and 944 yards. more importantly it’s the consistency with which he’s getting his yards. long may it continue.
