these things will only help as the offensive line continues to gel and the running game gets healthy again.
knowing that foles can get it done under pressure will only make them that much more dangerous. i hope this is the real nick foles. we’ll see. but he did it against what should be a very good defense, so that is very encouraging.
InvaderRamModeratorcool. don’t just work hard. work smart.
September 15, 2015 at 8:44 pm in reply to: What does yesterday's victory mean (re: the big picture)? #30586InvaderRamModeratori think one of the biggest things this means is that the rams have a good chance of not having to climb back from behind. just seems like the last two years. rams have had a lousy first half which killed any chance at the playoffs.
of course in 2013 they had a thrilling first game against arizona and then promptly layed an egg the next three. so it’s not just this game. but the next several games that will give us an indication where this team could go.
one thing though is that this team is set up to keep getting better as key guys get healthy and young units have the potential to keep gelling as the season goes on – for example the offensive line. but also nick foles’ chemsitry with his receivers.
we’ll see just how much these young guys have learned from the past several years.
September 15, 2015 at 2:04 am in reply to: What does yesterday's victory mean (re: the big picture)? #30520InvaderRamModeratorit means the team is 1-0.
we’ve seen this team slug it out with seattle before and won. can’t get complacent. need to really give it washington next week.
but i am encouraged that they did it without a great running game. i think it’s important that the qb and receivers gain some confidence and chemistry. then when the reinforcements come in, the offense can really take off. i think that’s extremely important in the big picture. having a dominant running game is important, but they’re going to need the passing game to make some clutch plays at times. games like this should only help that. knowing that foles can make passes when necessary will give this team that much more confidence. it will also make the running game that much more dangerous. but they gotta take care of the ball.
on a side note, i think for the big picture we got to see tavon’s role in this offense. i think he may have a bigger role than any of us anticipated. he looked good. and with more confidence. hopefully, he keeps getting better and better.
i’m also encouraged that the defense came out fast. hopefully, they can maintain this for the entire season. the rams defense is finally enjoying continuity it didn’t have until this season. this should allow them to play fast and not have to think so much. if you take away the st touchdown and sack fumble return for a touchdown. and if you take away the fumble which led to a field goal, the rams d held the seahawks to just 14 points. i think for the bigger picture we got to see the emergence of donald building on a great rookie season. i look for him to take on a bigger leadership role. i really think, along with foles on offense, he inspired this team to keep digging and clawing. even when it looked hopeless.
ultimately, this season, i think we see the emergence of the future leaders of this team. and i think this game was representative of that. on offense, it was foles. and i think ultimately gurley as well. on defense, you had donald. and hopefully guys like quinn as well.
going forward to the immediate future, it’s important that tre come back against washington and play well. it’s important that the offensive line continue to gel. it’s also important that they don’t get complacent against mediocre teams. washington is a team they should beat handily. and when gurley is cleared to return. watch out. rams could really have something going here.

InvaderRamModeratorit is a special time isn’t it? dare i say i’m starting to get those same feelings i used to get watching faulk, bruce, and holt play way back then.
i didn’t get to watch deacon and the fearsome foursome or youngblood. i hope donald and quinn realize the opportunity in front of them. they got a chance to create something special here.
InvaderRamModeratoris donald the face of this franchise? i think so. i like quinn. but he doesn’t seem to have the intangibles that donald does. i think donald is able to inspire those around him.
can certain players elevate the play of those around him? i know some people don’t believe in that, but i think donald does that.
i hope gurley can do that for the offense.
InvaderRamModeratorwell we’ll see. they’re not all going to be this good. i still don’t think this is a formula for success. i don’t think the rams do either. and hopefully mason and gurley will be ready soon.
i think some of his freelancing he got lucky. i don’t think he’ll always be that lucky. that jump shot to cunningham could have been disastrous. i think he tried to fit another pass into a tight space which was luckily just a broken pass.
but he was also forced into some of these situations. rams were constantly having to come from behind and with no running game that seattle would be intimidated by. so i understand that.
i am encouraged by the high ypa. i hope that continues even as the running game starts to come together. and i think it will. well not that high. not 11 ypa. but i’m hoping for around 8 yards ypa. i think he’s perfectly capable of that.
the one thing that disturbs me the most is the turnovers. fumbled twice himself. that needs to be squared away. and again. maybe some of that is taken care of when reinforcements come to the running game, and he isn’t forced to do so much himself.

September 13, 2015 at 8:10 pm in reply to: Fisher, Foles, Quinn, Austin 9/13 – transcripts – & Long vid #30426InvaderRamModeratorfrom quinn…
So once we started getting back there, we just try to stay consistent. ‘A.D.’ (Rams DT Aaron Donald) started it off and after that, guys just tried to follow him. We’ve got a special guy in (No.) 99 so I guess we just need to follow his lead.
i don’t think that’s just lip service. when the best player on the field is busting his tail every play, i think the others take notice of that. it becomes contagious.
September 13, 2015 at 7:58 pm in reply to: this is great…podcast of Savard & Farr calling the end of the game #30422InvaderRamModeratorThis has to be one of the ALLTIME best Ram openers.
Maybe THE best.
Can anyone think of a better, more significant,
more exciting Opening win that this?I cant.
w
vI can think of a couple of other good ones.
Baltimore 99.
And, an exciting game though for some wrong reasons (including bad defense):
Denver, 2000.
.
denver was good. but it didn’t have the ups and downs this one did.
September 13, 2015 at 7:57 pm in reply to: this is great…podcast of Savard & Farr calling the end of the game #30421InvaderRamModeratorit’s the best i can remember. i mean you had the uneasiness in the first half. then the young rams surge in the third quarter. then the deflation brought on by a seahawks comeback. and just when you think it’s over. they fight back to tie it. overtime was just icing on the cake. i haven’t been that thrilled in awhile. especially a season opener.
September 13, 2015 at 7:53 pm in reply to: Wow, how thunk that? (Seattle game reaction thread) #30416InvaderRamModeratorya know. just thinking out loud. but playing without that running game should help this passing game get some confidence. especially with a performance like this against a premier defense. should come into handy later on when they need the passing game…
like they did today.
InvaderRamModeratorthat foles to bailey pass in ot i think. beautiful. that safety just happened to be earl thomas. albeit an injured earl thomas.

September 13, 2015 at 7:42 pm in reply to: Wow, how thunk that? (Seattle game reaction thread) #30407InvaderRamModeratorgrob. i’m giving him until the second half of this season until i form any hard opinions on him, but it ain’t looking good so far.
September 13, 2015 at 7:02 pm in reply to: Wow, how thunk that? (Seattle game reaction thread) #30392InvaderRamModeratori don’t know, but we got a great shot at being 2-0. bring on washington!
i just can’t wait until gurley and mason come back. that’s the engine of this offense. i think there’s potential here. wow.
September 13, 2015 at 5:58 pm in reply to: Wow, how thunk that? (Seattle game reaction thread) #30364InvaderRamModeratorRFL Donald very nearly had 3 sacks himself but ended 2
A case could be made for Donald being the best player in the league other than QBs. He’s immense.
And he’s the kind of player that inspires the guys around him. Best Ram defender since probably Jack Youngblood. And that’s playing on the same team as R. Quinn!
i’d still give that to watt. but man. he was possessed out there. unblockable.
today i felt this dline as a whole was playing like people have expected them to. now they gotta maintain that level. something about donald tells me he is going to inspire this unit to do that. he just has that relentlessness that the great ones have. he’s got that tenaciousness that i used to see in london fletcher every time he lined up. i haven’t seen that in a long time. well. since london fletcher was playing for the rams.
September 13, 2015 at 5:50 pm in reply to: Wow, how thunk that? (Seattle game reaction thread) #30361InvaderRamModeratorPS, watching the NFL Channel replay of that last play, one saw BOTH Ram DTs destroying the rushing attempt.
I mean, that’s defensive football heaven, when BOTH of your DTs step up like that.
However, I see on the stats sources that we gave up 125 yards or so rushing. I imagine some of that was RW scrambling? Hmmmmm.
yeah. but you gotta remember this was the number one rushing offense last year at 172.6 yards a game at a 5.3 average. rams held them to a 3.9 average.
September 13, 2015 at 5:45 pm in reply to: Wow, how thunk that? (Seattle game reaction thread) #30357InvaderRamModeratoraaron donald is going to be the talisman of this team. he was unbelievable. shoot. that whole dline was unbelievable. no slow start for quinn. brockers with a huge stop at the end
What a soothing, delicious, delightful thing to read about the freaking RAMS!
If Williams figures out how to use those guys, it’s gonna be a good year!
i thought donald was the best player on the field. period. it wasn’t even close.
September 13, 2015 at 5:41 pm in reply to: Wow, how thunk that? (Seattle game reaction thread) #30355InvaderRamModeratoryeah three td drives against the best defense in the nfl. or at least top 3. without gurley and mason. and that backfield could be or at least should be the defining piece of this offense.
impressive.
but what they need to address is taking care of the freaking ball!
September 13, 2015 at 5:35 pm in reply to: Wow, how thunk that? (Seattle game reaction thread) #30348InvaderRamModeratorcouple things.
seahawks last year ranked 2nd in ypa allowed at 6.3. today the rams averaged 11.0 ypa. last year the rams had ypa’s of 8.2 and 6.6 against the seahawks. overall they had a ypa of 7.2. that was good for 15th in the league. hopefully, the rams can build on this.
imagine how good this offense could look with gurley and mason carrying the ball.
aaron donald is going to be the talisman of this team. he was unbelievable. shoot. that whole dline was unbelievable. no slow start for quinn. brockers with a huge stop at the end.

InvaderRamModeratorreading about wichmann gives me some comfort should saffold go down.
September 12, 2015 at 10:33 pm in reply to: TDs Rams offense gave up on INTs & FRs, from 2007 #30293InvaderRamModeratoroffense definitely needs to take care of the ball if they’re to win tomorrow.
nick foles has thrown 2 ints for tds in the preseason already no? hope he got that out of his system.
InvaderRamModeratorthe offense on the other hand. i fully expect it to take a long time before we see this offense in full stride. whether that full stride is effective or not remains to be seen.
InvaderRamModeratorgregg williams’ motto. “start fast”. i’m hoping. this defense has to start fast. they should start fast. they should be embarrassed if they don’t.
the leaders on this defense have failed if this defense does not finish top 5.
regardless, it should be a fun season.
InvaderRamModeratori don’t know technical stuff, but i am even more excited than i was last year. maybe it’ll all end up being for nothing, but i haven’t been this excited in awhile.
second year under the same coordinator. that’s huge. that’s something they haven’t had under the fisher regime, and i’m hoping that is the difference. they’ve been inconsistent every year under fisher. but maybe this is the year it changes. guys are entering their prime years at the right time and at important positions. again. quinn and donald should be better than they were last year. ogletree. you read good things about him this year as opposed to last year when he showed up out of shape. and in the backfield, mcdonald to some played like the best safety in the league in the second half of the season if you believe those sabremetrics.
the one downside is losing gaines. i was really counting on him this year, but hopefully, joyner can emerge and offset at least some of that loss. long and laurinaitis are a year older. but the positives definitely outweigh the negatives.
i’m hoping this is the year the defense finally steps up and becomes great.
InvaderRamModeratora healthy gurley and mason and i’d say yes, but since that it isn’t happening, i’ll say no.
InvaderRamModeratormy guess is it relates to the division they’re playing in as well as strength of schedule overall. in an easier division, their mean win should go up and their playoff chances as well.
playing against the number one team in seattle will do that.
atlanta for example has some pretty weak teams in their division thus increasing their chances of winning and making the playoffs.

InvaderRamModeratori hope that brady and belichick are never inducted into the football hall of fame. the writers should freeze them and anyone associated with those superbowls out of the hall of fame.
InvaderRamModeratornot sure i buy that a fix was in but i do believe the patriots cheated.
InvaderRamModeratori remember when the nfl insisted that concussions had no long-term effect on the health of football players…
i’m sure the same goes that spygate had no effect on the patriots winning…
