May 19, 2016 at 8:20 pm in reply to: Wagoner: as teams go smaller on defense, Rams push to get bigger on offense #44365InvaderRamModerator
it will always be a passing league, but i do like the idea of countering all that speed on defense with some power. if it actually works. i guess we’ll find out.
InvaderRamModerator“My first goal is to get the playbook down pat so I can play as fast as I can,” Thomas said. “That’s what I’m aiming for — just learning the playbook as fast as I can so once I learn the playbook, and play it fast, I know I’m going to make the team. I’m confident.”
haha. every interview he’s like that. the enthusiasm just bubbles through.
i think he has the potential to be the best wr the rams have had since torry holt left. not that that’s saying much considering the receivers the rams have had since then.
i just think it’s going to take thomas at least a year before we see that.
May 17, 2016 at 6:34 pm in reply to: Wagoner: Landing with Rams gives Jared Goff chance for rookie success #44194InvaderRamModeratorin the case of roethlisberger he also had hines ward. a veteran wr who had 200 catches in the 2 previous seasons before ben was drafted.
even russell wilson had sidney rice. while not spectacular did have a 1000 yard season with the vikings until knee, hip, and brain injuries derailed his career.
i have no clue who that will be for goff. maybe britt. but he’s always been a disappointment. did have a good start in tennessee in 2011 before he injured his acl but never has had 1000 yards. maybe being paired with a number one pick will motivate him.
maybe tavon? or maybe a combo of tavon and britt.
but he needs that receiver. even brady had brown and manning had harrison. brees had conway.

InvaderRamModeratorand also a running back still rehabbing and acclimation to a step up in level of competition.
so i would expect an uptick in second level yards as he gainz more experience and maybe even an uptick in open field yards as gurley gains explosion as well as improved oline and qb play.
InvaderRamModeratorgeez. wonder if martz would ever consider becoming a qb coach for the rams.
seem to remember him having problems with fisher during one of those joint training camp scrimmages.
InvaderRamModeratorany reports on robert quinn’s health?

Los Angeles Spine Group Surgeons Discuss Robert Quinn of the St. Louis Rams Recovery from Back Surgery
Dr. Sanjay Khurana and Dr. Rojeh Melikian of Los Angeles Spine Group comment on an ESPN article about the treatment and expected recovery process for the professional football player’s back injuries.
LOS ANGELES, CA (PRWEB) FEBRUARY 25, 2016
According to a January 8 ESPN article about defensive end Robert Quinn of the St. Louis Rams, the football star is currently in recovery from back surgery to correct an unspecified injury. According to Quinn, he is up and walking again and focusing on his rehabilitation. Some form of back strain and spine injuries are inherent to all sports, particularly from the grueling physical contact that is routine in professional football. Many star athletes are forced to take some time off over the course of their careers to heal and recover from injuries that can range from mild muscle strains and tears, to more serious damage to the spine, joints, and lower back. Orthopedic spine surgeons Dr. Sanjay Khurana and Dr. Rojeh Melikian from the Los Angeles Spine Group discuss the effects and recovery time needed for spine surgery.
“Spine injuries and chronic back pain are not at all uncommon among professional athletes, especially football players. With reports suggesting that he was previously suffering from hip and knee problems before his back surgery, Robert Quinn was most likely suffering from progressive damage that impacted his ability to continue performing without surgical intervention,” said Dr. Sanjay Khurana, a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon at Los Angeles Spine Group.
Quinn had notably missed playing in several games of the 2015 season while trying to identify the source of his problems, stating that he attributed his symptoms to “getting old.”
“Thanks to technology and developments like robotic spine surgery, back surgery is now less invasive than ever before. Depending on the nature and extent of pressure and injury to the spine, many people are healing and recovering from surgery for back pain faster and more successfully than ever before,” added Dr. Rojeh Melikian. “Conventional wisdom used to dictate that physical decline and pain, especially where the back and spine were concerned, were inevitable with age. And while it may be true that many conditions are more common as we get older, staying active, maintaining a healthy weight, and seeking treatment for problems like chronic pain can really make a difference in how well we age.”
Dr. Sanjay Khurana is a board-certified and fellowship trained pediatric and adult orthopedic spine surgeon in Los Angeles. He specializes in minimally invasive and robotic spine surgery procedures with an emphasis on degenerative disc disease, herniated disc, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and spinal deformity, spinal instability, spine trauma, spine tumors and spondylolisthesis. Dr. Khurana completed his undergraduate degree at the University of California at Berkeley and his medical school and orthopedic surgery residency at The Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Khurana completed his combined orthopedic and neurosurgical training at the prestigious University of Miami / Jackson Memorial spine fellowship under the mentorship of Dr. Frank Eismont and Dr. Barth Green.

InvaderRamModeratori don’t know about chuckie’s qb camp, but i did read several reports that said goff did not come off well in one on one interviews. but that very well could have been smoke coming from the browns camp.
i also heard on sirius. not sure who it was. might have been kirwan. that goff supposedly got very upset. maybe even childish or bratty. when questioned about his hand size. kirwan qualified that statement, however, by saying that while it may be a character flaw in one’s personal life, it wasn’t necessarily a character flaw when it came to being a football player. he said the great ones have that trait. guys like tom brady and peyton manning. douchebags. but guys who are obsessed with perfection and being the best.
InvaderRamModeratorbeyond the legal issues i worry about this guy’s durability. the guy has not been able to stay healthy.

InvaderRamModeratorgood to see ya, dak. not a big hockey fan but wishing the blues good luck. it’d be nice to see them have some postseason success. finally!
May 14, 2016 at 11:21 am in reply to: what do you think Goff's ceiling is compared to other Rams qbs? #44022InvaderRamModeratori think he can be better than bradford.
he’s got his size quick release and accuracy.
but then he has him beat in pocket presence coming out of college.
i also think we see sizable increases in his arm strength over the next 2 seasons as he adds bulk.
but we don’t know about his decision making skills in a league that’s faster and more sophisticated. we also don’t know about his obsession with being the best. those two things will determine how high his ceiling can be.
InvaderRamModeratorI’m fine with it . He’s accurate goes through his progressions can handle adversity , he’s young and learns quickly and there is no quit he just keeps coming back tough as nails. I was a Wentz guy due to my ND. connection but Goff has grown on me,the guy has made some mind blowing throws is durable and he will get better.
yeah. i think his durability is very impressive. he got hammered his freshman year and came back.
he faced pressure throughout his career and still put up numbers.
i do worry about shoulder surgery he had after his freshman season but hasn’t had any problems since then.

InvaderRamModeratorbut mind you i do like goff. in a lot of ways i like him more than wentz. and in some ways i think he’s got a higher ceiling than wentz. i don’t think lynch will ever be better than him. but if he was as good as a flacco and goff was the caliber of a manning (eli that is!) i would be a little irritated.
but who knows? some had him rated higher than winston and mariota coming out.
and like i said if it was between bradford and goff i’d go goff. shoot. if it was between goff and suh i’d want goff. and i was in the suh camp back then.
just not a big fan of giving up draft picks.

InvaderRamModeratoreh. well. looks like he’s playing more on the outside. although. that opens up opportunities for cooper inside.
i suppose having the both of them on the field at the same time will give defenses that much more to think about and take pressure off jared.
still i wanna see something along the lines of 70 receptions this season from tavon. i think that’s within reach. hopefully now that he’s got a high caliber qb the two of them can get some chemistry going. especially with goff’s accuracy.
and maybe in return that opens things up for todd and tavon in the running game as well.
and then cooper can fill that slot role that’s seemingly been vacant since danny left.
now wouldn’t that be something?

InvaderRamModeratorthing is. for me. it can’t just be a 10-15 yr qb. not for how much they had to give up. he’s gonna have to be better than ryan or manning. he’s gonna have to be drew brees good to ever think that trade was worth it. either that or lynch is gonna have to blow chunks.
InvaderRamModeratori just want to say in that montana interview. higbee looks huge! and not just huge but really really long! here’s hoping that he’ll be a success and will stay out of trouble.
InvaderRamModeratorcoop and higbee. let’s hope. rookie qb, rookie slot receiver, rookie pass catching tight end.
yikes!
InvaderRamModeratorwell unless something changes my guess is going to be rams fans will need to “be patient”.
probably not until next season when hopefully as you wrote one of this year’s rookies steps up next year.

InvaderRamModeratorlike i said i have no idea what i’m talking about really. just thinking out loud. just think it’s too early to label him as just a hybrid weapon. i think he can do those things while also developing other parts of his game. maybe he doesn’t. but i’m hoping he can.
although i concede that saying he could be goff’s go to receiver was going a little overboard. i’m just a little anxious about how goff will do his rookie year. feel like he’s gonna need the receivers to step up. don’t think the rookies are gonna be up for it. not this year. austin seems like their best chance.
InvaderRamModeratorok. maybe go to is stretching it.
i also don’t know what percentage of what routes he was running.
but maybe being a more reliable target and diversifying his route running.
i could see him getting 70 receptions and 50 carries while also increasing his yards per reception as a result.
InvaderRamModeratori don’t know if you’re just joking about the 235 pound bit but i definitely think he can get up to 230 pounds.
i don’t know. the pick itself i’m on board with although i still silently protest the trade.
his career is going to depend on so many other things that i can’t predict. i mean i thought sam could have been the long term qb for the rams but injuries and numerous system changes did him in.
i will say this. i think he’s a better prospect than sam coming out of college.
still opposed to the trade though.
InvaderRamModeratori do see his value as a hybrid weapon.
but my point is his abilities as a receiver and i do think they’re being written off somewhat.
not that being a hybrid weapon is bad. but i think he could have more to contribute as a receiver.

InvaderRamModeratori think he’s a very good safety.
but if there’s one thing i trust about this coaching staff it’s their ability to find and develop defensive backs.
i really like this brian randolph kid from tennessee. he could be a real steal.
having said that i think losing mcleod could potentially be the free agent loss that hurts the most.
InvaderRamModeratormy guess is the rams don’t miss long. at all.
i do worry about laurinaitis. jenkins too but i really like gaines.
mcleod could really really hurt though.
May 11, 2016 at 12:25 pm in reply to: John Clayton & others: how soon will Goff be ready to start #43872InvaderRamModeratorFormer NFL quarterback Kurt Warner, who led the St. Louis Rams to a Super Bowl victory, said the act of dropping back to pass is more complex than most people realize. A quarterback’s drop meshes with the route timing of his receivers, so a passer will know by his own feet where his receivers are at any given point.
yeah. more than learning the technique the hard part is learning to be in sync with your receivers. that makes sense. going half speed now and speeding it up makes sense in that context.
InvaderRamModeratorInvaderRamModeratorbut i also think you’re running generally the safer routes and providing a safety blanket for the qb rather than the deeper riskier routes of a wide receiver. so you don’t generally get a high yards per catch but rather high volume of catches and low yards per catch.
InvaderRamModeratori think so cuz you’re playing inside where there’s lots of traffic. so you need size or quickness but above everything else you would need toughness. but there are others here who could give you a better answer.
i also think you’re catching more underneath routes?
InvaderRamModeratorlooking at his combine numbers would seem to be a smoother athlete but not terribly explosive
InvaderRamModeratori think he underestimates the need for better receivers. even mariota and winston had 1000 yard receivers on their team their rookie years, and i don’t see who that’s going to be on the rams.
unless cooper is or thomas is a complete surprise. bradford at least had amendola. not a 1000 yard receiver but he had 80 catches that season. luck had wayne.
i think next year will be the year. when hopefully cooper and thomas are ready to step up.
InvaderRamModeratoroh brother.
