How very sad. Two things Sterling did wrong according to what I read above. First, don’t resist arrest. Not complying immediately can be interpreted as resisting arrest. Common sense dictates that you comply and not escalate the situation. Second, immediately inform the officer that you are carrying a firearm. This is taught over and over in carry class. You have to do so by law I suppose in most states but the reason is to not escalate the situation. If in a car hand the officer your carry permit with your drivers license.

tell that to philando. he did not resist arrest. he had his hands in the air. he informed the officer that he was carrying a firearm and had a conceal carry permit. he went to reach for his wallet after informing him of this, and the policeman still shot him.

it’s about more than that. there’s a reason black people are targeted more than white people. not just in killings. but arrests. getting pulled over for no apparent reason other than the fact that they are black.

i know law enforcement officers are under a great deal of stress. i empathize with the amount of shit they have to go through on a daily basis. but something has to change in the way do their job. innocent people are needlessly dying. and not just in cases where people are dying. cases where people are getting pulled over for no other reason than the color of their skin.

Terms such as “driving while black” and “walking while black” have been coined, with studies showing that blacks are pulled over, questioned or arrested by police at a disproportionately higher rate than white Americans.

    what a tough tough situation.

for what it’s worth i don’t think these cops are necessarily bad or racist per se. i don’t think they intentionally killed this guy. or maybe they did in this case but i’m not sure it is necessarily true in every case. that paragraph explaining how cops shoot black suspects more often in game situations and how there might some subconscious bias going on. that makes a lot of sense to me. whether we like it or not we have stereotypes hammered into our brains on a daily basis. and what does that say about our society as a whole? i don’t think we are as enlightened as we would like to believe. now maybe some of these cops were consciously racist and intended to harm. that’s certainly very possible. but i also think the former is true in other cases.

also i’m glad i’m not a cop. my wife’s friend’s dad was a sheriff, and he saw so many screwed up things in his life that he’s now permanently on tranquilizers just so he can get through the day. i think there needs to be stringent policies on psychological evaluations of these cops. are they being put on the streets when they are unable to perform their duties effectively putting lives in danger?

in the end when you’re a cop you’re given a tremendous amount of power. and i think because of that you need to be held to a higher level of responsibility. the law enforcement officer’s relationship to a citizen is not an equal one and it seems like maybe they are being given too much leeway. being given that kind of power and that kind of freedom can be dangerous. we need to make sure they are fit to perform their duties effectively.

but again. and this may not be a popular opinion but i sympathize with a lot of these cops. it’s a tough job. not the racist abusive ones. they need to pay for their crimes. but the good ones. they perform a job i never could.

i think trump is an elitist. and a nationalist. and a xenophobe. it’s a form of racism i think.

i don’t think he’d have a problem with rich mexicans and muslims and other minorities coming to this country. females. as long as they fit his elitist definition. he wouldn’t have a problem with them either.

but poor immigrants. white or black. or any other ethnicity. he’d like to see them all go i’m sure.

    my guess is.

mcdonald is not re-signed. they are able to replace him in-house.

    britt and quick are gone.

they try to re-sign brockers. he’s the hardest to replace of the free agents.

johnson. i hope they can work something out. they have depth there at cornerback, but he really had a good season last year. if he can reproduce that, i’d be inclined to see him stay.

i said it before, and i’m going to keep saying it. i think his effect on ogletree could be a very positive one.

and not necessarily just in terms of knowledge of the defense. cuz i’m sure it’s changed since singletary was playing in this defense for the bears. but just the attitude at the middle linebacker position. i’m just hoping he becomes a mentor to ogletree and can help him get to the next level. to be a leader as well as a playmaker for this defense.

geez. i wish a rams qb could have a season as good as the season rodgers had in 2015, and that was easily one of his worst.

“The greatest mystery is not that we have been flung at random between this profusion of matter and the stars, but that within this prison we can draw from ourselves images powerful enough to deny our nothingness.” Les Noyers de l’Altenburg: Andre Malraux

that pretty much encapsulates what i think of life.

you’re right too. i wouldn’t WANT to see this planet destroyed. can’t punish other living things for our mistakes.

i do think what will ultimately happen is the rise of the machines type scenario where robots become sentient and become the dominant life form on this planet. but it won’t be a violent uprising like the terminator. and then they will live in the peaceful communist regime billy_t has been yearning for. hahahaha!

i think we’re at a point of no return. this world has 2 options.

either we somehow get off this planet which i think is a real possibility. and somehow humanity is able to keep stumbling forward.

or we destroy this planet. or the planet is destroyed by some cataclysmic non-human event.

right now i’m hoping for the latter.

plus that 2012 offense lacked a young more explosive steven jackson. hopefully gurley is better than a 2012 steven jackson.

i think i liked it best in 2012 when they had jackson, amendola, kendricks, and bradford.

there was a good synergy going there. kendricks was able to accentuate jackson and amendola because of his ability to do a bunch of different things.

and i think last year what was missing was that receiving threat that amendola presented.

they’ve got gurley. they’ve got kendricks. just waiting for that amendola type guy (maybe that’s cooper) to get that same dynamic. i don’t think it’ll be austin although i do think austin will offer a dimension that the 2012 offense lacked.

but if they can get that receiver than i think kendricks will be able to facilitate the running and passing game like you said by disguising the formations. not knowing if they’ll be passing or running.

if robert quinn can come back healthy and find his 2013 form, that trio is top 3. at least.

if i’m not mistaken, donald was ranked the best player period in 2015 by pff. and quinn in 2013 ranked the second best player period by pff.

period. as in offensive and defensive players. in fact the two have posted the highest grades at their positions since pff started grading players. i’m pretty sure of that.

and trujo is pretty good too. i think pff gave him some exceptional marks last year.

of course that’s just one source but still pretty impressive.

to be clear. i really don’t have a dog in the fight.

but it’s becoming clearer that this society is mentally ill. in so many ways. so no. i don’t think that we need to throw assault rifles into a society that is so mentally ill. we really are. poverty, fear, intolerance is so rampant that we’re turning on each other. so yeah i think to myself maybe it’s time we toss aside some of our wants and desires and focus more on trying to heal ourselves.

guns are just part of it though. how about living in a society where economic disparity isn’t so disparate. where everyone has access to healthcare – both mental and physical. where everyone has access to a good education. how about living under a government that isn’t so militarized. and maybe this is all being unrealistic. but that’s a society i would want to live in. do i think it’s going to happen? probably not. my confidence in humans is at an all time low.

huh? when did i say we should circulate more assault rifles. i said buying more guns wouldn’t get us any closer to solving issues of mental illness and intolerance.

    i think you misread me?

i think the point is that it would make it more difficult. making a bomb would be more difficult. it would be a deterrent.

but again. you make a good point. recognizing and treating mental illness is also very important. accepting people who are different from yourself is also very important.

and i would also argue that those 2 issues are more important than gun control.

i also don’t think buying more guns gets people any closer to solving those other 2 issues. in fact i’d say it’d for sure be detrimental to getting different groups of people to try to understand and accept one another.

but yes. you make some very good points.

you make a good point, but take the assault rifle out of the guy’s hands and give him a soft fluffy teddy bear and how many people does he kill then?

i think people are talking past each other right now. oh well.

i also think his arm strength increases as his body fills out. there was some previous article talking about some enzyme deficiency he had and that by altering his diet they would be able to get him up to 240 pounds in the next two years.

martin luther king defended our “freedoms” without lifting a single finger.

and honestly freedom is something we all have regardless of whatever restrictions society puts on our rights as a civilian.

that’s the freedom i’m more concerned about if that makes any sense.

It has everything to do with freedom. The BOR guarantees certain freedoms. Your position is the “alien” position. We have so many laws already on the books regarding firearms now. If you honestly believe your position is correct and has the support of the people then you will have to amend the constitution. You have two choices:

Get it passed through congress (won’t happen) then have it ratified by 3/4 of the states. Won’t happen.

Get petitions from at least 34 states (won’t happen) in order to convene a constitutional convention to propose one or more amendments and then get 38 states (won’t happen) to ratify.

That is the only way to get what you want. Executive Orders won’t cut it not with the BOR.

the bill of rights is like the bible, no?

i mean it’s just stuff written by some dudes a long time ago.

anyway. i’m not even sure anyone is saying to rid anyone of their second amendment rights unless i’m totally reading this wrong. just tighter restrictions which let’s be completely honest. i think everyone is for at least some kind of restrictions.

and yes. i do want a miracle. that’s not asking for too much is it? haha!
