InvaderRamModeratori find it interesting that fisher says he took the job knowing that there was a pending move to los angeles. even though the move was being denied at the time. not the biggest deal to me. i wouldn’t figure they’d tell the truth back then anyway.
i do agree with him about the qb situation. if bradford had stayed healthy, things might have been very different.
losing mcleod and jenkins was a huge blow. i would have let tavon go and at least signed one of those two. although i have to admit i was ok with the signing at the time. i figured this group would be more able to find and develop a db than a wr. looking back it was a bad signing. maybe a new coach will get more out of him. i doubt it though.

InvaderRamModeratorMike Shanahan joins Colin Cowherd to talk Rams Job and More –Video
interview with mike shanahan. says he’s not interested in a head coaching gig but seems like he’s more interested in a front office type position. cowherd asks him about the rams job but doesn’t have much to say about it other than he wants to be in an organization that wants to win.
if the rams were interested i’d think it’d be attractive to a guy like him. kroenke isn’t the meddling type and would give him space to operate unlike what he had to deal with in washington. i know he’s pretty tight with fisher. maybe fisher hasn’t had many positive things to say about the organization i don’t know.
but he was noticeably quiet when the rams did come up. don’t know what to read into that if anything at all.

InvaderRamModeratorthe only thing i can say is that they are obviously trying to appeal to a new generation of fans. a generation maybe people like us don’t necessarily understand.
my guess is spanos has a bunch of market researchers doing a whole lot of work on this. whatever they recommend is likely what he’ll do.
InvaderRamModeratori hope so. sounds like a pr hire. someone to fill the seats.
no thanks.
InvaderRamModeratorthat’s what intrigues me about shanahan. not only had he had a positive effect on qbs, he’s had a positive effect on rbs too.
gotta fix the oline though.
InvaderRamModeratorif mannion plays, i hope he throws for 5 touchdowns.
if goff plays, i hope he throws for 5 touchdowns.
InvaderRamModeratorI would prefer hiring the GM first, but hiring the coach first is OK, too. In fact, I prefer hiring Ron Wolfe and letting him set up football for the Rams. He can decide if he wants Demoff and Snead and how much they get to do in the football side. Who the GM or coach is, etc. Of the listed candidates, I guess I might like Kyle Shanahan?
i do want a football operations side, and i don’t want demoff to be part of that. if it was ron wolf i’d be ecstatic. demoff just has way too much power in this setup.
i don’t know about mike shanahan in that role. i mean i know he’s a superbowl winning head coach. i don’t know how he’d be as an executive.
InvaderRamModeratorjust got this from the herd.

InvaderRamModeratorI don’t know how much credit belongs to Fisher vs Snead.
that to me is huge. we don’t know. how much of the grob and austin picks were fisher and how much were snead? but conversely how much credit does fisher get for picking donald and how much does snead get?
i would trust snead more in picking a coach than i would demoff.
InvaderRamModeratorPut Wents and Goff in that offense, which is WAY scaled back, and with that OL and those skill players, and in my mind there’s just absolutely no way they would not be doing better than they are now.
well. yeah. they’d be doing better than they are now. they just wouldn’t be doing as well as prescott is now.
attempts don’t matter to me. still gotta make plays when you do get the chance.
but yeah. scaling back the offense. not requiring him to go through progressions. i have no doubt it helps. elliot. i have no doubt it takes pressure off him. i’m just saying i doubt wentz or goff would be much better if at all given the same situation.
and dak is going to get better as he gets more experience.
InvaderRamModeratordak prescott is still playing well. i don’t necessarily buy the argument that he’s being propped up by the offensive line and elliot. certainly it makes a difference but not THAT much of a difference.
Read the first post, this thread. It isn’t just that he’s propped up by those things. Dallas limits what they let Prescott do. They have enough of an offense around him so that they can scale what they ask of him way back.
…
no i understand. i still don’t agree.
he still has to make plays. i’ll put it this way. put carson wentz or jared goff in that offense, and i’m not entirely convinced they’d be better. even while scaling back their responsibilities. or maybe even as good.

InvaderRamModeratori think it’s too early to give definite marks on guys like gurley, goff, and the offensive linemen.
free agency is important, but the team will be handcuffed until 2018. it’s important that they develop the talent they currently have. some of the linemen i feel have talent. gurley and goff i think still have tons of potential.

InvaderRamModeratoras a fan i would have been very confused if the rams had rebranded. i don’t think it’s a good idea. it’s not even like they’re moving to another region. there are a lot of chargers fans in the southern california region. i wonder if this will turn people off. does the younger fan base care or do they gravitate to the new team they can call their own?
InvaderRamModeratori’ve made it once. definitely used the jalapeño. onions. used ham hocks. i think it was effective in giving the beans a smoky flavor. put in some chili powder.
InvaderRamModeratorgot a good recipe for ranch style beans?
December 18, 2016 at 6:15 pm in reply to: Jeff Fisher ‘caught off guard’ by Rams firing | FOX NFL KICKOFF – Video #61299
InvaderRamModeratorPart of me wishes they hadn’t fired Fisher – just forced him to get a new OC like Turner or somebody. He may have fired Boras at the end of the season on his own anyway.
well that’s the pr part of this move.
some of this came down to being able to sell a new stadium in 2017. i’m curious as to what could have been done with a veteran oc. then again fisher could have done that this year.
what would have been interesting too is if fisher hired shanahan as the offensive coordinator. i believe he interviewed for the job.
i look at the continuity there. he hired a qb coach he worked with at washington. the oline coach was from seattle. worked under cable who worked under gibbs.
there seems to be a shared vision there on the falcons offense. everyone is on the same page.
what can we say about the rams offense? were they just parts slapped together by jeff? did they even come from the same system? does that matter?
InvaderRamModeratori’ve attempted to make empanadas which are essentially mince meat pies. savory pies are my favorite pies.
i’ll check that video out.
December 18, 2016 at 4:30 pm in reply to: Jeff Fisher ‘caught off guard’ by Rams firing | FOX NFL KICKOFF – Video #61295
InvaderRamModeratorcertainly a lot of it was a pr move.
but while i can’t speak for them, i was getting tired of the fact that there just was no rhythm or rhyme to this offense. after 5 years it just didn’t seem like they had any idea what they wanted to do. that boras hire was just bad.
InvaderRamModeratori don’t know if they ran the outside zone this year, but they did last year. gurley did pretty well as i recall.
http://www.sbnation.com/2014/7/25/5928877/alex-gibbs-seahawks-broncos-texans-nfl-zone-blocking
Gibbs’ philosophies change and evolve continually through Cable, Kubiak (who was Shanahan/Gibbs’ offensive coordinator during the Super Bowl runs), McCarthy (who learned the ZBS from Gibbs in Kansas City), and Kyle Shanahan (who learned it from Gibbs and his dad), among others, but the core thought remains.
“In this system, whether it’s Alex, myself, a couple other guys, we’ve never not had a good back,” explained Cable recently. “I mean, we had a kid in Oakland, Justin Vargas, well they said ‘He can’t play, he runs too high’, all he did was run for like 1,180 and 1,200-something, so I mean, that ain’t bad. So, whoever it is can go for 1,000-plus.”
InvaderRamModeratorOf the names being bantered about I like Shanahan and Shaw the best, although I am having to supress a deep seeded revulsion to the possibility of anyone named Shaw being associated with the Rams again.
I could live with Gruden too. The rest of the names don’t trip my trigger.
i’m really warming up to the idea of shanahan.
at first i wasn’t thrilled mostly because of his dad, but he’s been several different places and had success. matt ryan is by far having the best season of his career. it’s not even close. but he’s also worked with young qbs like schaub, robert griffin and cousins. and he’s had strong running games as well.
and while i was at first wary of his dad, i’m thinking he’s got a wealth of information and contacts at his disposal. those denver and washington offenses had very strong running attacks. i think he’d be a good guy to squeeze as much as he can out of gurley and the offensive line. maybe even a guy like alex gibbs could come on as a consultant.
yeah. i think he’d be an excellent match. just wonder if he’d be interested and if he would want to work with goff.

InvaderRamModeratorsean mcvay is another one on the internet. not directly tied to the rams but a hot coaching candidate. that washington offense is good, and he’s coached cousins for most of his career. he’s only 30 years old though. three years of experience as a coordinator.
InvaderRamModeratorwhat kind of pies do you make? ever make any meat pies?
December 17, 2016 at 2:39 pm in reply to: Bleacher Report on coaching changes, says the Rams are targeting McDaniel #61268
InvaderRamModeratorThere’s a lot of speculation, it seems, about coaches not wanting to come here because of Goff.
well we’ll find out soon enough.
i hope not. i hope coaches are lining up for the chance to coach this team.

InvaderRamModeratorplay him. play the shit out of him. he needs reps.
December 17, 2016 at 11:26 am in reply to: Bleacher Report on coaching changes, says the Rams are targeting McDaniel #61260
InvaderRamModeratori don’t know. i can only look from a distance. it would depend on how much he’s learned since his time in denver.
a name mentioned over at the herd is kyle shanahan. at first i wasn’t so sure. but i’m beginning to warm to the idea. schaub had some of his best years under shanahan. things with rgiii didn’t go so well but he had a great rookie season under him as did cousins. ryan is having his best season his second year working with him.
i’m also curious as to what he could do with the running game as he’s crafted together some pretty good rushing attacks. he’s studied under kubiak and his own dad. guys who know the run game.
i just hope they don’t go after the big name.
InvaderRamModeratorfor example keeping rob boras will mean certain doom for anyone associating himself with the rams offense. it will be a black hole for nfl offense. sucking in and crushing anything that comes within its gravitational pull.
i exaggerate i know. but could a hire have been more screwed up than that one?
InvaderRamModeratori’ll probably be the most down on the rams than i’ve been since almost 20 years.
this team needs to wake up.
InvaderRamModeratorIf he doesn’t it won’t matter who the coach is.
i partially agree with you.
certainly if he doesn’t have it in him, it won’t matter who the coach is. yeah.
but even if he does have it in him, he will need the right people around him.
now of course he could be a superstar type talent where it really doesn’t matter, but i wouldn’t bank on that. those are rare. most of the time my belief is it isn’t just any one person. it’s having the right mix of people.
and that extends beyond just hiring the right coaches. he’s gonna need an offensive line. he’s gonna need receivers.
and of course hiring the right coach depends a lot on goff and donald and gurley being the right guys for that coach. it’s not just a one way street. if you don’t have the players it won’t matter who the coach is.
InvaderRamModeratorwe hope.
i mean there’s a reason air raid qbs don’t adapt well to this league.
the rams can’t screw this up. he needs to be paired with the right head coach and maybe just as importantly the right qb coach.
if he fails, a large part of it will probably be because the rams failed him.
they have to get this right.
