geez. if i was a team who needed a qb (sf, min, den), i’d be looking to trade for sam. philadelphia has no reason to trade him at this point though.
August 30, 2016 at 8:45 pm in reply to: This really happened: Jimmy Kimmel, Alex Jones & pickles. #51931InvaderRamModeratormaybe donald and hillary should have a pickle jar opening contest. they can put it on pay per view.
right after they determine who the bigger racist is.
InvaderRamModeratori’m guessing havenstein starts at right tackle this thursday and saffold slides over to left tackle with robinson held out.
Well, IR, it is really looking like this line (starting week one) … –>
ROBINSON SAFFOLD BARNES (Wichmann? Brown?) HAVENSTEIN
… —> is going to be a good one.
it does looked better. and they’re young too.
i read around that some people are worried after the denver game, but that is a helluva defense. not too many times they go against a defense like that.
InvaderRamModeratorray isn’t an established pass rusher but he is a former first round pick and is entering only his sophomore season. very possible that he break out this season.
looking forward to watching grob play this year.

InvaderRamModeratorburn.
InvaderRamModeratorspruce better be playing next week. can’t imagine they’d be able to start the season with 2 injured receivers on the roster.
InvaderRamModeratorTavon isn’t your average WR. He is more of a home run hitter. There is a premium for that. imo
He isn’t a move the chains and/or score in the red zone type.
He can take the ball from anywhere on the field and score. He can do it with a long pass, short pass, run, punt return, or even kick return. The other team is never safe when he is on the field. How many receivers can say that?
that’s true. i remember games like indianapolis, chicago… arizona i believe before he got hurt. there were others but just his ability to take it to the house from anywhere on the field.
InvaderRamModeratoralso here’s an article where fisher explains they anticipate more production from tavon going forward.
Jeff Fisher: Tavon Austin was paid based on “anticipation of what he’s going to do”
Jeff Fisher: Tavon Austin was paid based on “anticipation of what he’s going to do”
Posted by Mike Florio on August 29, 2016, 5:18 AM EDTThe Rams on Saturday gave receiver Tavon Austin a four-year extension with a new-money average of $10.5 million. The move has prompted some to question the decision, based on Austin’s performance during the first three years of his career.
On Sunday, coach Jeff Fisher explained that Austin’s compensation is aimed at not the past but the future.
“It’s our anticipation of what he’s going to do,” Fisher told reporters. “We’ve seen what he’s capable of and we’re hoping we’re going to get a lot more than what we’ve seen in the past. I know people are putting out numbers and things like that, but they forget three or four punt returns that were returned for touchdowns that were called back. He’s very, very talented with the ball in his hands. He is a problem to defend against and we hear that week after week after week. I was speaking with [Broncos defensive coorindator] Wade [Phillips] before the game and [he was saying], ‘This guy is really good.’ It was obvious, the way they defended us, they knew we weren’t going to give him the ball, so they just kind of disregarded where he was, but things change here in a couple weeks. I’m just really happy for Tavon. He’s a great team guy, full of energy and he’s got a God-given talent that’s going to carry us a long way.”
Regardless of any punt returns that were called back due to penalties, Austin’s numbers on offense have been limited by a lack of talent around him, specifically at the quarterback position. If the team had a true downfield passing threat, it would be easier to create opportunities to get Austin the ball in space at or near the line of scrimmage, allowing him to make people miss and gain lots of yards.
And so the ability to get a full return on the team’s investment in Austin won’t depend solely on how Austin plays, but how others play around him — starting with the quarterback position but also taking into consideration the offensive line, running back Todd Gurley, and a collection of fellow receivers whom Terrell Owens regards as no-names.
InvaderRamModeratortied with deandre hopkins for most tds by a receiver from the 2013 class.
They were talking about this on L.A. sports radio this morning that I was streaming. The hosts couldn’t quite grasp why Tavon was getting paid so much while comparing him to other receivers. You can’t do that with Tavon. He’s unique and yes–he scores touchdowns. That’s worth something. And if he became a free agent teams would be scrambling to get him.
yeah it’s kind of hard to gauge his value because he isn’t a traditional wide receiver. and as zn mentions it’s not the best comparison to hopkins who is a traditional wide receiver.
i’m still on the fence with the signing. touchdowns are important but yards are important too. i do expect him to improve more over the next couple years. he came into west virginia a running back and came out a receiver so i gotta believe we’ve yet to see the best.
but it’s hard to tell cuz i think the rams have been reluctant to unveil the whole offense. they must have big plans in store for tavon.

I can tell you that he is the highest graded offensive player on the Rams this preseason. 6th Highest for last night’s game.Re: How was GRob against Denver?

That’s PFF grading that I have access to.August 29, 2016 at 12:20 am in reply to: reports: Cooper & maybe Gaines out a couple of weeks #51811InvaderRamModeratoris there any news on spruce?
InvaderRamModeratori hope he’s ok. grob was my pick since the day he declared for the draft. one of my favorite picks ever when it happened. i hope he can begin to ascend and that he remain a ram for a long long time.
bummer about the head injury though.
InvaderRamModeratortied with deandre hopkins for most tds by a receiver from the 2013 class.
InvaderRamModeratori like this offense. honestly, i like the way it’s coming together.
the wide receivers could be a little stronger, but i think higbee, if he can stay healthy, mitigates the need at the wide receiver position. and i like the skills that tavon brings. he’s a different kind of player. i like that. just need to make his other teammates come in and fill the gaps around him.
obviously the one thing the offense is missing is a quarterback to make it all work. and i don’t think the answer is keenum. he looks good now, but i get this feeling that when the regular season starts, his skillset won’t work. i could be wrong. it’s just a feeling. but hopefully. after about 4 games. goff is ready to get in there and take the offense up another level. sure keenum’s been more efficient this preseason, but i haven’t seen him make some of the throws i’ve seen goff make. his physical skill set does not compare to goff. but that’s ok.
InvaderRamModeratori think i like it. i’m not sure.
hasn’t looked real impressive but i think that changes once regular season starts and they run more plays specific to his skill set.
i hope.
InvaderRamModeratordak has a very good oline. elliot. bryant. and witten. a very good supporting cast. they won’t have to rely on him too much.
but that defense sucks i think.
InvaderRamModeratorI don’t get it.
Is Ogletree slow with the calls? Confused?
Why the problem?
Did Ayers have the problem when JL made the calls? Or is this new? And why?
Is the problem Ogletree or the rest of the defense? Why the confusion?
Who is really to blame here? I want names, people–names!
The secondary is clearly confused.
I know, I know–they lost Mcleod, and Jenkins so we’ll give them some time to adjust. Yes, Ogeltree is playing a different position. But the line guys have no excuse. For now I will blame Hard Knocks and Eric Kush. But I want real answers soon.
Can Ogeltree even play the middle? Do we know that for sure?
I’m freaking out now–gotta eat a couple of donuts and wash it down with some coke. I’ll be better after that. I have concerns here.
The offense will be better–the defense worse = 7-9. It’s math.
ogletree did play inside linebacker in college but it was in a 3-4 defense i believe.
i wanna see ogletree really lose his shit and pull his pants down around his ankles in the huddle. that’ll show some real leadership.
InvaderRamModeratorawesome the running game shall be!
InvaderRamModeratoryeah. if the oline can play well this game my confidence will be through the roof.
InvaderRamModeratorwell one thing i’ll be looking for today is a healthy quinn. i mean imagine how good that defense woulda been last year with a healthy quinn.
i’m not sure they’ll be better than last year though. too many questions for me in the secondary.
interested to see how the defense responds to ogletree’s leadership compared to laurinaitis as well.
InvaderRamModeratorwhat they fail to mention is how many qbs look like world beaters in the preseason only to flop during the regular season.
although i have to say i love dak prescott. i wanted/hoped the rams would draft him before the big trade up.
InvaderRamModeratorok i was wrong about quinn and donald. quinn ran the 4.60 and donald ran a 4.70.
HOWEVER.
donald’s 10 yard split was 1.59 while quinn’s was 1.64.
also. quinn ran a 6.99 3-cone and 4.31 ss while donald ran a 7.11 3-cone and 4.39 ss. so quinn seems to have more bend and flexibility in him while donald has a superior initial burst. plus donald’s anticipation of the snap is uncanny.
InvaderRamModeratorDonald may be an even faster DE than Quinn!!! Not really, but in a different method. It was just stunning to see Donald – who looks short/squatty…suddenly explode with speed and glorious technique from wherever he is lined up.
Hemingway looks like a large WR and often lines up in the slot…but has good hands. Higbee has good hands and kendricks has reliable hands. The cool thing is having a TE based passing attack is that a defense doesn’t know if it’ll be a run or a pass….
in terms of straight line speed i believe donald is faster than quinn. donald was tested at 4.60 and quinn was 4.70. now coming around the edge might be a different story, but donald’s get off is ridiculous so who knows?
i like hemingway way too. and i came in thinking it was a wasted pick, but he looked good last week.
InvaderRamModeratori’m really loving this oline. maybe best oline in last 10 years?
August 25, 2016 at 8:53 am in reply to: konn-troh-verss-ee: which qb should start w/ the 1s against Denver #51583InvaderRamModeratorkeenum is ready. 1 quarter of football isn’t going to change that. he seems to live and breathe football.
give goff the first half against that defense and get a feel for where he really is.
mannion gets the second half.

InvaderRamModeratori just hope that somehow ogletree can get it together. i watched the last hard knocks. i liked that he was pissed about the defensive performance. but i also want to see him channel that into actual production. thinking the defense gets a half this weekend. should be enough time to get into a flow.
i like that he’s got singletary breathing down his neck. he’s got a good support system around him. the rest is up to him.
InvaderRamModeratorcool. so we still have no idea how goff will turn out.
InvaderRamModeratorI’m interested in seeing how the Rams offense fares against that Denver defense in Mile High.
yes. and i’d rather they just sit keenum at the start and have goff play with the ones. see how far he’s come along. but that’s just me.
InvaderRamModeratori also think he wore down a little at the end.
i wonder how the consistency changed from the first half of his season to the second half.
i also think he becomes more consistent with more experience. i wouldn’t put it all on the oline. although i’m sure it was a factor.
