Another team that runs a 1-gap 3/4 D with an ex-safety at ILB is Arizona, where 6’1″ 216 lb ex-safety Deone Bucannon has that role.

well my guess is we see a 1-gap 3-4 defense more similar to the cards defense than the broncos. at least in terms of the front seven.

wade himself has said he isn’t tied down to making players fit his system. he’ll tailor it to fit the players’ strengths. a lot of that will center around donald, but like you said, i think he’s got more athleticism in ogletree and barron than he did with his inside backers in denver. i’m interested in seeing what he does with those two.

he seems to fit into a kromer type center. my impression is he prefers bigger centers as opposed to the smaller quicker and more athletic centers. that’s just my impression.

as far as the inside backers go, i think wade will make adjustments to play to ogletree and barron’s strengths. it might be closer to the cardinals’ d than the broncos’. not sure. i guess we’ll see.

wade is known for being flexible from what i’ve read. and he will have to be because the personnel isn’t going to be exactly the same as what he had at denver. especially in the front seven.

i remember reading about titan and it’s methane lakes. i didn’t know they had found chemical imbalances though.

It goes like this. The probe they sent detected levels of hydrogen. In the upper atmosphere, hydrogen was abundant. Then in the middle atmosphere, same. Down on the surface though it was depleted. Some are saying that so far, there is no good explanation for hydrogen being depleted on the surface when the atmosphere is otherwise rich in hydrogen, except maybe possibly organic processes taking place to deplete the hydrogen. (Which in turn is still dependent on the theory that life capable of existing in liquid methane lakes would consume hydrogen). Lots of “ifs.”

So obviously that little clue ain’t the same as pointing to an actual organism and saying “there, see?”

yes. it’s far from definitive evidence. but who knows what other methods of detection they’ll come up with in the next 25 years.

i still say take engram if he’s there at #37.

he’s not an in line tight end? who cares? why would you even waste him as an in line blocker. he’s going to catch 90-100 passes in this offense.

if you need an in line tight end, you could just line him up as a receiver and bring in an in line blocker.

i’m going to compare his numbers to julio jones.

    julio jones
    6’3″ 220 pounds
    33.75″ arms
    9.75″ hands
    40 yard dash – 4.39
    vert – 38.5″
    broad – 135″
    3-cone – 6.66
    20 yard ss – 4.25
    60 yard ss – 11.07

    evan engram
    6’3″ 234 pounds
    33.5″ arms
    10″ hands
    40 yard dash – 4.42
    vert – 36″
    broad – 125″
    3-cone – 6.92
    20 yard ss – 4.23
    60 yard ss – 11.44 (pro day)

elite athlete. this guy could line up at any of the skill positions outsisde qb and rb. out wide. in the slot. h-back. joker tight end.
he’s even lined up in line at mississipi.

i think he’s got a chance to be the second best tight end out of this strong tight end class. someone’s going to overdraft njoku and hopefully engram falls down to the rams.

There is one theory (and it;’s pure theory) that they have already detected such traces of chemical imbalance on Saturn’s moon Titan.

If Titan has living organisms they would be very different from earth-based ones, since they would have to live in methane lakes and consume hydrogen. That’s one theory anyway.

i remember reading about titan and it’s methane lakes. i didn’t know they had found chemical imbalances though.

but yeah. it doesn’t even have to be life dependent on water. doesn’t even have to be carbon based.

and according to the article there are different strategies for finding life on another planet. or at least evidence of it. for distances not reachable by humans.

    Is there life out there?

Astronomers’ current strategy for finding life on another planet is to detect the chemical composition of that planet’s atmosphere, on the look-out for chemical imbalances which could be caused by living organisms. In the case of our own Earth, the presence of large amounts of oxygen is a tell-tale sign of life.

NASA is sending a probe to Jupiter’s moon, Europa in the 2020’s. It will orbit Jupiter and take high resolution photos of Europa as it passes by to see if it has the conditions to support life as we know it. The probe will fly past it 45 times as it orbits Jupiter so there will be plenty of opportunities for good pictures. It is thought that Europa has a layer of frozen water on the surface and a liquid water ocean underneath the ice. The moon doesn’t freeze solid because tidal forces from Jupiter’s gravitational pull cause Europa to ‘flex’ which stimulates volcanic activity and generates enough heat to keep the interior liquified.

Besides Earth, Europa has the best chance to harbor life of any place in the solar system. If we don’t find it there we probably won’t find it anywhere. Although life almost certainly exists elsewhere in the universe, anything outside our solar system would be unattainable to us because of the distances involved (lucky for them).

oh yeah. i’m not necessarily thinking in terms of potential colonization. i just want evidence that it’s out there somewhere. in terms of probability, it’s a virtual certainty. but it’d just be cool to see. and does such a discovery affect society knowing we’re not alone? meaning the planet as a whole.

and not even necessarily intelligent life although i’m sure that exists somewhere if not here.

In fact…I would list LDE as the top priority of all their needs.

well ignoring other needs i think kpassagnon would be great for wade’s defense. i don’t think he gets into the third round, so you’d have to draft him with the rams second rounder. or maybe after a trade down.

Regardless of how many players remain on the roster I think it’s safe to say that McVay is inheriting a lot more talent than Fisher did.

    on defense. yes.

on offense. well. that depends on a lot of question marks. at the top of the list is goff. if he’s a bust, well then let’s hope cousins is available next year, and he wants to team up with mcvay again.

i like this. this would seem to move joyner permanently to safety where i think he could be more effective.

i still say they draft a cornerback to replace trujo.

    this defense still needs

    1. cornerback for depth
    2. outside linebacker (for depth)
    3. left defensive end

    they’re close.

i think it’d be foolish not to draft a cornerback this year. especially with trujo likely gone after this year.

i want pocic. i feel like he could fit in at guard on a short term basis if necessary and eventually take over for sullivan. elfein is more limited i would think.

a healthy sullivan would be great.

i’d still draft a center for development. wouldn’t count on sullivan for more than a year. not sure i’d even count on him for 8 games.

i think the biggest positional changes would be at offensive line. can’t imagine quinn and joyner will have too much of a problem with their positional changes.

Well if they draft a RB with their top pick or next pick, we’ll
know they aint sold on TG.

I just think this is a team of question marks (as per usual):
    Goff is a ?
    Gurley is a ?
    Quinn is a ?
    GRob is a ?
    Center is a ?
    WRs are a ?
    TEs are a ?
    Saffold is always a ?
    Tavon is a ?
    McV is a ?
    CB is a ?

The only non-?s for me are Wade Phillips and Aaron Donald. Maybe Ogletree.

    w
    v

i agree, but i take a question mark as not knowing if they’re good OR bad.

    so… there’s that.

As the Redskins’ playcaller and offensive coordinator these last two years, McVay relied heavily on quarterback play and was never able to attain the ideal run-pass balance he always seeks.

But he believes he can obtain that with Gurley.

this is encouraging. ideally, i’d like to see something similar to the falcons’ offense. not in scheme necessarily, but an offense that is balanced.

i’m not so deluded to think this can be done in one year. but assuming goff and gurley develop as expected, mcvay should have a more balanced backfield than what he had with washington. that should make it easier to develop an effective passing game. i wouldn’t even be surprised to see mcvay involve gurley heavily in the passing game himself.

    http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/pat-elflein?id=2557879

    Elflein, Pat C 6’3″ 303 Ohio St.

SOURCES TELL US “You are getting a guy who will be great for your locker room and will get the rest of the offensive line on board. I think he could have the same fast impact on a team’s running game that Zach Martin had in Dallas. Safe draft pick to me.” — NFC West scout

    NFL COMPARISON Travis Frederick

BOTTOM LINE Elflein is a smart, tireless worker with a winning background and experience at all three interior offensive line spots. While his feet are just average, his core strength and wrestling background could make him a favorite of teams looking for more strength at the center position. Elflein will have occasional issues in pass protection, but his strength as a run blocker and ability to play with excellent hands and plus body control should make him one of the first interior linemen to come off the draft board.
    -Lance Zierlein

i think i like pocic better. more potential there.

from An updated look at the edge defender class in the 2017 NFL Draft

    By John Owning

    link: https://www.fanragsports.com/nfl/updated-look-edge-defender-class-2017-nfl-draft/

The edge defender class in the 2017 NFL Draft has a chance to be great, or even historic. Take a look at any mock draft, and you will see a handful of talented pass-rushers permeating the first round.

Everyone can agree on who the first one of the board will be (Myles Garrett), but there is a multitude of varying opinions on which player should be next. It usually comes down to what type of pass rusher that analyst prefers.

If they are looking for a disruptive penetrator with position flexibility, Stanford’s Solomon Thomas would likely be the choice. If a long and lean pass-rusher is more their speed, then Michigan’s Taco Charlton would be a choice praised by many.

Personal preferences aside, most will agree that this is a deep edge defender class that is crawling with intriguing talent. With that in mind, let’s try to rank this edge defender group.

no mention of tyus bowser in this article. i think he has a chance to be special.

i’ll put it this way. i could see engram catch 90-100 passes in this offense. in this instance, i’m not sure how much pass blocking he’ll need to be doing. and i’d imagine defenders would be so preoccupied with him going out on patterns, that it’d hinder their ability to rush goff.

in reply to: big draft thread #1 #66941
    Avatar photoInvaderRam

yeah. tight ends are a huge part of his offense. and engram would be the best available if he makes it there. he can catch short, intermediate, and deep.

he’s not much of a blocker. i heard he can be effective run blocking. and he shows the willingness at times, but where he really runs into problems is pass blocking. but i think it’s simple. don’t use him as much pass blocking. let him go run a pattern and catch passes! haaha!

seriously though. i just don’t see a receiver who could make the impact that engram could. i think you could line him up all over the field. just don’t use him to protect goff. mcvay will find other ways to maximize his talent i’m sure.

Drafting 2 TEs? I know we’ll “get” two … but I’m thinking it may be post draft.

The talent is crazy at the position this year and I’m not seeing 35 TEs getting drafted …
Some guys aren’t even getting mentioned and when I run through simulations there are always TEs available…

i think the rams need a tight end more than a wideout. i think there’s more talent at that position than is being given credit for. tight end, on the other hand, is a bigger question mark. notice i say bigger. cuz ultimately they’re both question marks, but i think tight end is the bigger one.

it’s evan engram for me. hodges if engram isn’t available. the talent is super crazy there this year. i’d say howard, but i mean we gotta be realistic here.

it’s not that i don’t think highly of mcvay and his resume. and certainly the rams need to get the offensive line in order (which they seem to gradually be doing). and they need receivers.

but if goff isn’t good, then mcvay won’t look quite as smart. getting nervous now.
