ya know. for whatever it’s worth. andrew whitworth ranked just behind joe thomas (who brandt ranked seventh all time on his list) last year on pff’s top 50.

whitworth ranked 36th. thomas ranked 27th. tyron smith and trent williams were the top rated tackles.

whitworth entered the league in 2006. thomas entered in 2007. whitworth is also 3 years older than thomas. whitworth was the highest ranked left tackle last year.

i don’t know how many years he has left, but that’s impressive.

How do you go from being the best at hitting holes, to one of the worst? I just don’t get it.

well. i think a lot of it is him most likely not showing up in the best of shape. and as a result not having the explosion necessary to hit the hole hard.

but also probably pressing too hard. for multiple reasons. knowing he has to produce in order for this offense to produce anything. but also wanting to make an impression in one of the biggest cities in the world. as a young guy i think you want to be a success in the bright lights of los angeles. you want to be the next “kobe” as people were trying to hype him up to be. and i’m sure that weighs on you. and maybe all this talk about “team” this offseason is his acknowledgment that he has to get back to basics and not worry about that other stuff.

i will say that kobe made a lot of mistakes as a young guy before he got it. i will also say that there are running backs who struggled early on who went on to learn from those setbacks. faulk and bettis are the two biggest examples i can think of.

so i remain optimistic because of i’ve seen enough of gurley to think that he’s got it. he just has to find it again.

i’m skeptical of higbee, but if he can, even better.

    there’s hemingway too.

    season needs to start soon.

and the oline isn’t the only unit undergoing big change.

tight end – higbee and everett
wide receiver – woods, kupp, and austin

the changes at receiver are just as important i think. just from the standpoint of professionalism. woods and kupp alone take that to another level compared to last year.

The offensive line changes are the most interesting part to me:
    Dumping GRob,
    Moving Hav to guard,
    Moving JB to Tackle
    Signing an old star LT.

One wonders if it will work. Certainly a big change from the Fisher Oline.

    We’ll see.

    w
    v

well not just any lt. some might argue the best left tackle in pro football last year. i mean that alone should be a huge upgrade.

the 2 things i worry about most are:

    1. sullivan – can he last an entire season?

    2. brown – can he play right tackle? he’s still young. only 14 games starting experience.

    steven was definitely underrated.

main problems were injuries and the fact that he played on some pretty crappy teams in his career.

also kupp is going to be a star.

many many consecutive 1000 yard seasons from this guy.

i’ll say this about goff. i’ve got better feelings about goff than i did about bradford.

take it for what it’s worth, and i could very well be wrong. but i think he’ll at least be better than sam bradford.

very very depressing. and there’s probably a lot of truth to it sad to say.

i also am thinking kupp becomes a focal point of this offense. i just got this feeling about him. they’ll move him around the field and get him the ball.

and if he’s good enough make defenses adjust to that.

combine that with robert woods and everett and gurley running the football and thomas being the deep threat this offense could be better than what people expect.

and if gurley gets involved in the passing game like has been reported, tavon will really be on the outside looking in.

i don’t have good feelings about this.

he’s not gonna be the deep threat they want him to be.

they gotta use him as a wr/rb hybrid with return duties. nothing more.

my guess is thomas will be that deep threat.

I’m not sure what the writer says there is true.

Kromer runs nothing like the kind of OL scheme McVay knew from before.

Why would it be Kromer is forced to adapt than McVay. IMO it’s easier for a young coordinator to adapt to what his successful veteran OL coach has been doing for years than vice versa.

maybe he got his info mixed up when talking to coaches.

cuz i agree. it doesn’t make much sense. at least from what i know.

McVay will also bring a different run scheme to LA as he ran mostly outside zone and man concepts while LA was primarily and inside zone scheme team in 2016. This should benefit HB Todd Gurley and help open up the passing game.

    ok. i didn’t know that.

i thought kromer was an inside zone guy, but maybe they’ll bring in some more outside zone with mcvay and lafleur.

i think gurley ran a lot of outside zone his rookie year.

McVay says the move was “more of a product” of Jamon Brown’s development at right tackle and “encouraging things” from Andrew Donnal.

i hope so. i believe him. i think this is more about brown playing well than anything else.

yeah i’m surprised they could even get a draft pick for him.

    lock him up.

for donald i do it. i don’t worry about that guy. he’s special.

i know he caught some flak last year for being out of control at times, but he’s a once in a decade type player. he’ll be fine.

“I feel really good about the left side of our line.” — McVay

hmmm… well i would expect that of the left side.

makes me worried about the right side. i’m guessing right tackle is iffy.

yeah. mike doesn’t have tremendous deep speed, but he’s got tremendous body control, very good explosion. that makes for a good catch radius and he makes some ridiculous catches.

he just needs to get some confidence and consistency. i think consistency is a big knock on him as he’d drop easy catches but make the difficult ones in college.

Pharoh is out there. McVay mentioned his play making ability in an early interview.

i don’t think he makes an impact on this team. he’s a slot receiver and kupp and everett will get those reps.

i think it’s woods, kupp, and thomas. then tavon.

    then the rest.

    that’s my bold prediction.

There isn’t much to go on, but it just feels like Goff is doing significantly better this year. He appears more comfortable.

that’s the sense i get too. nothing concrete but his body language seems to indicate he’s getting it.

The third-year running back moved around the offensive formation throughout the first day of Rams minicamp Tuesday. Occasionally, he lined up wide outside two receivers. On another snap, he motioned from out wide into the backfield before running a route in the other direction. He saw a lot of targets from quarterback Jared Goff in the passing game, often appearing to be the primary read.

the more gurley can stay on the field the better off this offense will be.

he should easily be the best of all the skill position players.

i want donald back and ogletree to a lesser extent.

i’m not tied to trujo. and i think even joyner and alexander are expendable.

Todd Gurley lining up wide, moving around formation at minicamp. Great to see’

i’m not worried about donald. whether he shows up for minicamp or not, all i’m concerned about is that he shows up for training camp. as long as he gets in by then, he should be ready to go.

i also think this is the beginning of the end for tavon.

my bold prediction is that woods, kupp, and thomas become the top 3 receivers by the end of the season.

yeah gurley is key. and if goff exceeds expectations, that’ll just make the mcvay offense that much harder to defend as long as gurley is who they think he is.

by the way goff looks significantly bigger than he did last year.

ok. one more. lately i’ve been loving what i’ve been reading about mike thomas lately. could he be the deep threat for this offense?

i don’t know. but i also like woods and cooper. there’s gonna be some good competition at that position.

i’m not so confident on higbee and everett though. and i don’t know how that affects the offense with mcvay being so tight end centric. i think he’ll have to adjust the offense.

looking at safeties i think joyner and alexander are going to be way better than what they had last year. and last year wasn’t necessarily bad. but this duo is going to be lights out i think. and look out. my guess is they’ll have capable backups in johnson and randolph.
