InvaderRamModeratorjust tied it 24-24.
InvaderRamModeratorthis is all good news. keenum trending down. oline has injuries. this is good.
InvaderRamModeratorVikings are doing against Carolina what they didn’t do against the Rams…turn the ball over…they trail 24-13 in the third.
and they’re not playing at home.
play the rams at home, and i think it’s a totally different game.
or at least i would hope so. looks like there’s a lot of eagles fans in la right now…
InvaderRamModeratori might watch the niners game. the other game is oakland kansas city, but that doesn’t excite me much.
i will be rooting for carolina to win. i actually like minnesota as a team. but they must go down.
InvaderRamModeratorAnd the Rams up for a tough game of this type or is it a year too soon yet?
before, the playoffs became a real possibility.
if they win this game, the superbowl becomes a real possibility for me.
of course. they have a huuuuuuuuuuuge game right after this in the seattle seahawks. those guys just won’t go away. russell wilson is playing out of his sane mind.
but win this game, and i have more confidence they can take out seattle next week (yes, even on the road). win out against tennessee and san francisco. and even perhaps make it all the way to the biggest game of all. against, yikes. maybe they’re biggest test of all? the pats with bill and tom?
i’m scared to even think it.
InvaderRamModeratorGoff: “We had the same agent. He’s got information from the Eagles, he’s got information from the Rams. We both find out. It was never for sure until my name was called. So I’m still sitting at the table, waiting for my phone to ring. You never really know for sure.”
Wentz: “I think we both had a pretty good idea of where we would end up, but we still were just waiting for that call — when the Rams were on the clock, right then and there.”
i think it was pretty obvious by the way they dressed. at least that’s the way it appeared to me.
i do think both have a ways to go yet. and i do think that goff possibly. possibly. might have the higher upside. he was raw coming out of college. physically he can develop even more due to his age. just depends on how much he can develop the mental part of his game. physically, he just needs to hit the gym. should be simple enough. he already looks bigger compared to his rookie year.
December 9, 2017 at 2:35 pm in reply to: this article has new info in it on the trade-up for Goff #78601
InvaderRamModeratori would take mariota. that guy has it all. i think mariota in this offense would be unbelievable.
InvaderRamModeratorit’s crazy. people laughed when the rams and eagles traded up to grab these guys.
they’re looking better than luck/rgiii and mariota/winston at this point. i think it shows how much coaching and luck factor in sometimes. i think mariota under mcvay would be one helluva qb/coach combo. not to take anything away from goff.

InvaderRamModeratorgotta credit snead too. and he is also at least partially responsible for drafting the key players who came from the fisher era.
but yeah. mcvay snead are looking like a pretty good combo.

InvaderRamModeratorI think I saw that the Eagles were staying in SoCal this week so they wouldn’t have to make trips to the west coast on consecutive weeks. If so, does anyone know if they are dealing with the same issue.
I heard they were practicing at Anaheim stadium so I don’t think it’s an issue there.
no it’s not an issue for the eagles. the rams are right in the middle of it. not good.
InvaderRamModeratorAnd if they do…..
then it just got real.
InvaderRamModeratorfootball outsiders ranks the rams number one and philly number two.
number one pick vs number two pick.
two of the most well rounded teams in the league. should be fun.
i’m so freaking nervous.

InvaderRamModeratori just wanna say. johnny hekker. best fuckin ever.
clutch punting.
this game was all special teams and defensive turnovers.
it’s crazy. the next game almost always seems like the biggest game.
InvaderRamModeratoryeah. at first i thought he said goff audibled, but no. you’re right. listening to the interview again, he said he made a bad audible, and goff had to improvise directing reynolds with his hand motion. that was a brilliant throw into a tight spot.
i don’t know where goff is in his development, but if he is a little too reliant on the headset and i have no idea of knowing if he is or isn’t, that wouldn’t be the biggest surprise to me anyway. he’s like what? in his second season with 18 games starting experience? i’m not too worried. he’s got a lot of offseason work and game experience to go before he’s the finished product. it’s not going to happen immediately. and i don’t necessarily think helping him over the headset is going to stunt his growth.
even arians said it was a useful tool especially with young qbs. and he’s developed some good ones.

Rams linebacker from Nigeria is latest rookie stepping up to become starterBy GARY KLEIN

PHOENIXRams linebacker from Nigeria is latest rookie stepping up to become starter
Rams rookie linebacker Samson Ebukam, making his first start this week, got to Drew Brees for a sack in last week’s victory over the Saints. (Wally Skalij / Los Angeles Times)
As pep talks go, this one was short and to the point.
Wade Phillips, the Rams’ veteran defensive coordinator, wanted to gauge linebacker Samson Ebukam’s frame of mind this week as the rookie prepared for his first NFL start on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.“Are you nervous?” Phillips asked.
“Heck yeah,” Ebukam responded.
“Well,” Phillips said, “you better be.”
Ebukam chuckled recalling the exchange.
“Of course I’m nervous,” said Ebukam, who will start in place of injured Connor Barwin. “It’s my first career start. I didn’t think that was going to happen so soon, but I’m excited. I need to show some of my skills.”
The Rams, under first-year coach Sean McVay, have an 8-3 record and an opportunity to sweep the Cardinals, after shutting them out 33-0 in London in Week 7. Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer suffered a season-ending broken arm in that game, but the 5-6 Cardinals still have receiver Larry Fitzgerald and running back Adrian Peterson, both future hall of famers.
That will pose a challenge for the 6-foot-3, 240-pound Ebukam, the latest member of the 2017 draft class to start or play a significant role for the Rams.
Rookie receiver Cooper Kupp is second on the team with 46 receptions for 597 yards. Tight end Gerald Everett has started two games and has 10 catches, and Josh Reynolds started for the first time last week and caught his first touchdown pass.
Safety John Johnson has been a starter since Week 5 and is fifth in tackles, and defensive lineman Tanzel Smart has started four games.
McVay described the rookie class as a “pleasant surprise” for a Rams team that is leading the NFC West.
“What we looked for, really in all these guys, are mature players that understand the game and then go about it the right way,” McVay said. “And that’s both a credit to [them and] some of the veterans we have as well.”
For rookies, it’s been nonstop football since the spring of 2016.
They went through spring practice and training camp before their final college seasons, played 12 to 13 games, and then jumped immediately into preparation for the NFL scouting combine and the draft. They attended rookie camp with the Rams, went through off season workouts and minicamps and then training camp before participating in preseason games.
Now they are going into their 12th regular season game — with four more to play and the possibility of playoffs.
None of the first-year players said they have hit the so-called “rookie wall,” when mental and physical fatigue set in.
“I don’t want to jinx myself,” Kupp said, “but I don’t think I’ve hit it. Taking care of your body and having a love for the game helps too.”
Veterans said the rookie wall was a real thing.
“I still experience it now,” fourth-year safety Lamarcus Joyner said. “I still have to talk myself through it because you just have to find a way to keep grinding and persevering.”
The rookie class showed its capability the first time it met after the draft, Johnson said.
“Once I got around the guys, I knew we were all hard-working,” he said. “I knew we’re all low-maintenance and get-in-the-work type of guys. So it feels good to me to see us actually out there helping the team.”
Ebukam, born in Nigeria and a fourth-round pick from Eastern Washington, did not participate in offseason workouts because of an NFL rule that forbids rookies from fully participating until the school’s spring term is complete. Ebukam then suffered a hamstring injury early in training camp, setting him back.
“When he came into camp, he worked real hard,” Phillips said. “We noticed that real quick. He had a good work ethic, so that helped him fit in real well.”
Ebukam has played on special teams in every game, but he first made his mark with a sack against the Houston Texans that forced a fumble. Last week he sacked Saints quarterback Drew Brees for an 11-yard loss.
“He’s played well, rookie-wise, for the time he’s been in there,” Phillips said, adding, “He’s got a lot of energy and I like that.”
Ebukam described the starting opportunity as a “dream come true.”
Once he gets through the first play against the Cardinals, he said, the nervousness will end.
“It’s the fight or flight scenario,” he said. “Every play I’m going to fight. That’s all I know.”

InvaderRamModerator“To be the best, you have to try to do what the best did and surpass those guys. It’s work. But I’m in this business to work.” On Aaron Donald, the sacks he seeks, the pressure he generates and the chances of him being Defensive Player of the Year. …
they have to re-sign this guy.
InvaderRamModeratorrams should win this one handily.
i know they’re missing 2 starters but are otherwise healthy i think. no excuses.
InvaderRamModeratora couple things.
first, this youth movement is what really has me excited. ebukam getting his first chance. but also jj and smart on the defensive side. jj has really taken off, although smart has petered off.
and then on the offensive side, you have kupp and now reynolds. everett flashes, and i still have hope for him. i just don’t think it’ll be until next year.
this draft is looking strong so far. won’t know until after 2019 season is over but definitely promising.
that’s not even mentioning the third and second year players that litter this team.
second, about ebukam. physically, he reminds me of little of von miller.
here’s a side by side comparison between miller and ebukam.
von miller:
6’3″ 246 pounds
33.5″ arms
9.25″ hands
40 yd dash – 4.53s
10 yd split – 1.57s
short shuttle – 4.06s
3-cone – 6.70s
vertical – 37″
broad – 10’6″samson ebukam:
6’2″ 240 pounds
32.5″ arms
9.5″ hands
40 yd dash – 4.45s
10 yd split – 1.53s
short shuttle – 4.31s
3-cone – 7.02s
vertical – 39″
broad – 10’10”von miller has the edge agility wise where ebukam has the edge explosion wise. but shoot. ebukam has elite athleticism. what we don’t know is his instincts for rushing a passer. his flexibility. but i don’t think work ethic and intelligence can be questioned. he seems like a great kid. hungry. and he’s young. only 22 years old.
InvaderRamModeratorThat said, in the very near future I can see No. 10 in that role – and making it even bigger one with his skill set. All in due time
that’s what i see too. and i wouldn’t be surprised if he can do a better job at it. he doesn’t have tavon’s speed. but i don’t think speed is the only thing necessary. he’s a good runner with the ball in his hands. i don’t see why it couldn’t translate to the jet sweeps.
InvaderRamModeratorWhen you have a young quarterback in a new system, it helps tremendously.
this.
InvaderRamModeratorjust saw the mcvay press conference.
i think it was gary klein who asked mcvay specifically about the touchdown pass to reynolds if it was him who called the audible or goff. mcvay said it was all goff.
so i can only believe what he’s saying is true. it seems more of a back and forth between jared and sean rather than sean just dictating to goff what the audible is.
November 29, 2017 at 7:44 pm in reply to: Are the Rams limiting Gurley's load to save him for the playoffs? #78104
InvaderRamModeratoras it is gurley is on pace for 358 touches (carries and receptions combined).
and then i read some article that says gurley should get a MINIMUM of 25 touches a game going forward…
that’s 400 touches over an entire season!!! do people realize how rare it is for a running back to get 400 touches for a season????
he’s doing fine. over the last four games, he’s still had 424 yards from scrimmage. that’s nearly 1700 over 16 games. i’m looking for quality touches. he’s still getting quality touches. and he’s going to be fresher over the long-term.
people criticized fisher about running gurley into the ground. mcvay is doing his best to take care of him, and now he’s getting criticized!?!? i don’t get it.
this team has way too many other weapons. they have sammy, rob, coop, and now josh…
that’s not even mentioning everett who i still think has a lot more to give to this team than he has been. he just needs seasoning. when malcolm gets back, he’s a talented runner. he can give todd a blow.
i wanna see todd play for as long as he can. giving him the ball 400 times a season is going to break the guy. unless he’s some sort of freak like emmitt smith.

InvaderRamModeratori think at this point people are so astounded by goff’s turnaround in one year that they’re looking for reasons to maybe discredit him. maybe that’s too strong a word, but it’s just such a 180 that people can’t quite wrap their heads around it.
it’s gonna be awhile before jared gets recognized for what he’s doing.
i think kurt got that for awhile. that he was a product of the system. people couldn’t quite wrap their heads around a guy who toiled in the arena league and nfl europe before exploding in 1999. it happens.
InvaderRamModeratori don’t think it’s cheating. but i hope that goff isn’t too reliant on it.
like i said. i hope goff is able to get to the point that he can call pre-snap audibles on his own. for all we know, he’s already there, and mcvay is just on the headset to give him feedback. it’s just way too hard to tell from those little soundbites.
November 29, 2017 at 8:14 am in reply to: Are the Rams limiting Gurley's load to save him for the playoffs? #78065
InvaderRamModeratorit makes sense. and even despite that, he had 128 total yards from scrimmage this last game.
this is how they give him the best chance of staying healthy.
InvaderRamModeratorIf anything, McVay’s presence in Goff’s helmet will serve as a useful transition for Goff to eventually make sound audibles of his own choosing.
fair points, but i’d still like goff to be as independent of mcvay as possible. i expect mcvay to wean goff off of the helmet at some point. obviously, he’ll still call plays. but all the presnap audibles will eventually have to fall on goff.
InvaderRamModeratorgoff’s feet are something waldman and others would talk about going back to the draft.
“typewriter feet” i think is what one of goff’s coaches called it.
“happy feet” is what others called it…
guess it depends on who’s watching. important thing is he’s making good decisions with the ball. and really good sense of where the pressure is coming from and doesn’t panic.
InvaderRamModeratori like it too. he’s definitely flashed in limited playing time.
i like that all these young guys are getting chances.
InvaderRamModeratorso josh reynolds. wow. he looked pretty good for his first start in the nfl. i know there was a lot of hype surrounding him even since training camp, but it was nice for him to show it in a game that actually counts. and a pretty important game as far as regular season games go.
i decided to look up reynolds’ combine numbers. i didn’t remember how well he tested there. he only ran a 4.54 40. but his explosion and agility numbers were exceptional.
vertical – 37″
broad – 10’4″
short shuttle – 4.13s
3 cone – 6.83those agility numbers are especially impressive when you consider how tall he is. those are numbers you’d expect from a guy 5 inches shorter than his 6’3″ frame.
his arms are a little short, but that’s not exactly a deal breaker. this draft class looks better and better.
ebukam has looked good too. 2 sacks in his last 3 games. very very explosive. off the charts explosiveness. reminds me a little of leonard little – frame wise and where he was drafted.
hopefully, he starts to get more playing time these last 5 games.
