InvaderRamModeratorHere is Alshon Jeffery’s line against Talib in that game:
A. Jeffery
11 targets 6 rec 84 yds 2 TDhe’s older for sure. pff still ranked him the 15th best corner in the league for what it’s worth. i don’t know how much stock you can put into pff rankings.
i hope he’s got two more years in him but 31 is pretty old for a corner.
on a less important note, la fans are gonna love this trash talking secondary.
InvaderRamModeratorto add to that. if miller is gone, i prefer the rams draft an inside backer in the first round. that’s IF miller is gone.
vander esch, smith, or evans would all do. they might not even make it to #23. but who knows.
third round they get their edge rusher.
and this is assuming the rams sign avery williamson as well.
wow. just wow.
InvaderRamModeratorholy crap. i read the first tweet… and i was like WHAT THE FUCK!?!?
sorry for the profanity, but when it said first round draft pick, i was incredulous.
a fifth rounder sounds great though!
InvaderRamModeratorKolton Miller – LT – UCLA – He had himself a weekend. Tested out of his mind and looked smooth in drills. He was one of the guys I needed to see more of and I came away impressed. His sub 5 40 with a 6′-9″ 310 lb frame with a 1.67 10 yard split was impressive. 24 reps @ 6′-9″ showed strength and his 34″ arms are good for a LT.
i read or heard somewhere that miller was the victim of bad coaching at ucla. even then he looked pretty good. but in the right circumstance this guy could flourish.
this guy has it all as far as athleticism and length.
it should also be noted that last year was only his first at left. his previous two seasons were at right which also might explain some of his inconsistency.
i’d be so tempted to draft him if he was available at 23.
InvaderRamModeratorPart of them is hopeful of getting a good one at No. 23.
rashaan evans is floating around in my head more and more.
he’d be an instant leader on this offense i think.
mayock and co kept talking about his intangibles. defends the run and pass and can blitz.
FYI on #Rams. Not a given Trumaine Johnson leaves. Just sayin’
backfield of tru, peters, joyner, and johnson.
linebackers – ebukam littleton evans draft pick
dline – brockers nose tackle donald
again. barry got a real good look at the linebackers in the draft. he must be salivating right now.
InvaderRamModeratorjoe barry got a real close look at the linebackers and edge rushers this combine.
he’s gonna have a lot of input into how this draft goes.
March 7, 2018 at 10:10 pm in reply to: Here are the Rams' 2018 draft picks after trading Robert Quinn #83616
InvaderRamModeratoranother guy i totally forgot about. rashaan evans. on the smaller side, but he’s a playmaker. i don’t think size will necessarily scare sonofbum off. as long as he can tackle which ogletree didn’t always do so well.
InvaderRamModeratoralso now i’m expecting the rams to announce the signing of watkins sometime in the next week. maybe a 4 yr contract. or thereabouts.
March 7, 2018 at 9:26 pm in reply to: Here are the Rams' 2018 draft picks after trading Robert Quinn #83608
InvaderRamModeratorif they could somehow trade up to get vander esch and then draft an edge rusher in the later rounds. their lb corps would be instantly transformed. they’d still need a second corner though.
InvaderRamModeratorI am stunned. I saw this on my phone earlier, and couldn’t get here until now. You guys aren’t helping me. I need some explanation.
Tree isn’t my favorite player. He wasn’t going into my Ring of Fame. But he seemed decent. And I saw some upside still, since he was just moved to MLB.
So…I have faith in Wade. I think he knows what he is doing. Tree doesn’t fit his scheme. Okay. But…
The Rams run a 3-4.
And right now, I’m not sure they even have 4 LBs on the roster. WTF? Quinn’s gone, and AO is gone now. And Barwin is a FA, and there is talk of not keeping Barron.
Where are we now?
I mean…we have about a dozen picks in the 4th round now. Is the LB draft pool especially deep so that there will be 6 or 8 starters available in the 4th?
This move surprised me. But…uh…these guys have a track record of knowing what they are doing, so I will just sit here and wait for the next spectacle. I guess.
if it means keeping sammy watkins, i’m for this move.
also now i really hope they get leighton vander esch in the draft.
InvaderRamModeratorRams ‘frustrated’ with Ogletree’s run support
Per Rappaporthis tackling could be very frustrating.
wonder if with all these picks the rams try to trade up. either higher up the first round or into the second round from the third.
InvaderRamModeratora little confusing but keeping trujo and watkins for ogletree. to me i’d do it. then need to get joyner and donald signed to extensions.
wonder who they have in mind in free agency.
InvaderRamModeratori think it was the right move.
when the rams traded for watkins, i was excited. i even posted a comp between watkins’ first three seasons and jones’ first three seasons. they were similar.
but now you got a receiver who, after four seasons, has only one 1000 yard season. one team gave him away for a second rounder. a second team has let him go without tagging him. i don’t know what mcvay’s input was on who got tagged, but i have to believe he had a strong say. a guy who knows offense. knows what his offense and his qb needs. decides not to tag him.
i don’t know. i still hope the rams’ re-sign watkins. he obviously has value. but maybe watkins didn’t get the franchise tag cuz he’s not worth number one receiver money. maybe the rams have faith that reynolds can fill a void or maybe the front office refuses to overpay him.
we’ll see. if mcvay is ok with this, then i put faith in mcvay. if there’s some inkling that this was done against mcvay’s wishes, then i might have to rethink this.
March 6, 2018 at 8:51 am in reply to: tweets, 3/5 (including best explanation of Joyner/Watkins situation) #83519
InvaderRamModeratori’d rather tag joyner, if they can’t sign one to a long term deal. i really like reynolds and his potential.
InvaderRamModeratordorance armstrong also looks good. i think he could be gotten in the third round. his production was outstanding in 2016 and then there was a drop off in 2017. from what i read, the defense changed schemes, and he was playing out of position for pretty much the entire season. in the nfl, he’ll be playing more the position he played in 2016 when he had 20 tackles for loss and 10 sacks!!!
6’4″ 257 pounds from kansas
arms – 34.75″
hands 10″
40 – 4.87s
bench – 20
vert – 30″
broad – 118″
3-cone – 7.12s
short shuttle – 4.23svery mediocre explosion numbers. the vertical and broad numbers are not the best. his speed has a lot to be desired. but that is partially why he drops to the third. his agility numbers are good though. not elite. but good. a drastic difference between his 40 and his short shuttle times. but then he’s got elite length. long long arms. i think he’d be a good pick up.
if the rams could re-sign trujo. and then draft armstrong in the third. and let’s say they draft a rashaan evans in the first. that’d be a helluva defense there.
InvaderRamModeratorhere’s an article on harold landry. it pretty much says what a lot of the scouting reports say about landry.
https://medium.com/the-mesh-point/film-breakdown-harold-landry-vs-notre-dame-2017-148171b8fe16
InvaderRamModeratorWhile he can play standing for 3-4 teams, he’s at his best with his hand in the dirt as a rusher.
i like landry. but he’s strictly an edge rusher. a 3-4 outside linebacker. it sounds like. but he could be a helluva 3-4 outside linebacker. so at #23, that’d be a bargain for sure. i wouldn’t be complaining about that.
but what intrigues me about vander esch is, much like tremaine edmunds, this guy might be able to play all 4 linebacker positions. and play them all well. maybe not immediately. but eventually. he can defend the run and pass as well as rush the passer. whereas landry sound like he’s primarily an edge rusher.
there are multiple guys it sounds like who fit landry’s description. maybe they don’t do it as well as landry but they have similar skill sets.
edmunds and vander esch. i just don’t get the sense that you find too many players who have that blend of size and skill.
InvaderRamModeratorAn outside linebacker named Landry looked very good in the agility drills, comes from a 3-4 college system.
There was this drill where the linebackers or d-linemen had to run back, then sideways, then run forward and catch a pass thrown right at them. Quite a few players could not handle the pass, let it hit them in the chest and bounce off. Mike Mayock commented, “If the ball was a javelin, these guys would be dead.”
much like a corner, if those guys could actually catch the ball, they’d be better off playing tight end! ha!
seriously though, yeah. landry looked good too. if they wanted to go defense, my guess is they could trade back into the second round and still find talent. i think it’s that deep.
harold landry
6’3″ 252 lbs from boston collegearms – 32.875″
hands 9.375″
40 – 4.64s
bench – 24
vert – 36″
broad – 119″
3-cone – 6.88s
short shuttle – 4.19sathletically, a tick below khalil mack. but still explosive. his agility numbers compare to a guy 30 pounds lighter than he is.
his length isn’t elite. again, just a tick below. but more than adequate.
he actually weighed in bigger than they expected. i read somewhere they were thinking he’d be 6’1″ 240 pounds.
a lot more nimble than they thought he’d be too looking at the agility numbers.
i think he played in college as a defensive end. someone correct me if i’m wrong, but that’s what i read. based on his combine performance maybe he’s still got some potential to be tapped playing as a stand up edge rusher. phenomenal numbers his junior year. but had a down year in 2017. i noticed he only played 8 games, so maybe he was dealing with injuries. i don’t know.
but again. those agility numbers. mayock said he looked good in drills. sounds like a fit.

InvaderRamModeratorvander esch might not even be available at #23. whispers that the packers are considering him at #14.
good news though is that’ll push other talented guys down.
at offensive tackle i still like kolton miller. a friend of mine has said nothing but good things about him. athletically, he’s more than solid. what i like most about miller is that he is said to grade very positively in the run game but also seems to have the athleticism to hold up in the passing game as well. a year at right tackle or just learning under one of the best in whitworth would be good. if he isn’t available, i really don’t see any tackle worth a first round pick. mcglinchey, but he isn’t gonna last until 23. tyrell crosby maybe? but from what i’ve read he profiles as a right tackle – not a left.
if they don’t get offensive tackle, i want them to go defense. defensive line, corner, or linebacker. i don’t care. there’s talent at all three levels it seems like. someone is going to be there. they could even trade back if there isn’t an offensive tackle there to groom.
if they stay. and mike gesicki is there. i would be far from disappointed if they decided on a luxury pick and went with him. his athleticism is off the charts. and given mcvay’s track record with tight ends, i think the pick would make too much sense. mcvay would get the most out of him. he doesn’t have to be a blocker. i think with gurley and gesicki. woods and kupp. defenses would have a helluva time trying to match up with that offense.
InvaderRamModeratori remember when bucky passed away. i don’t ever remember a message board where i didn’t see that guy posting about the rams.
and it’s the same with grits. it’s the end of an era.
i didn’t know either of these two, but they have been a presence in my life as a rams fan. almost since the beginning. which goes all the way back to 95. i probably started lurking on the herd around 98 when i left st. louis.
i feel for his family.
InvaderRamModeratori’m so sorry to hear that. i did not know him personally, but i was always aware of his posts and the passion he had for the rams.
and yes. i definitely remember him banging the drum about the rams’ return to los angeles.

InvaderRamModeratorYeah, before the back problem he was an all-pro.
Rams have had some good ones.
Merlin, Deacon, Lundy, Grier, Bacon, JYB, Dryer, Little, Donald, Quinn.
I’m sure I’m leaving some out.Is Quinn gonna be missed? I dunno. Maybe.
w
vthe one thing they can’t do is think they’ll be ok without him.
they need to draft or sign an edge rusher.
InvaderRamModeratorAccording to draftniks, at this point, which are seen as the strong positions in this draft, and which are seen as the weaker ones?
i’m not an expert, but the running back class seems unusually strong. i think the position is about to make a comeback.
defensive line and linebacker is strong.
tight end, outside of gesicki, is weak. even then, gesicki is not without his blemishes from a football standpoint. athletically the dude is off the charts.
InvaderRamModeratorThere are a ton of talented 3/4 OLBs we can get after round 3. Darius Jackson of Jacksonville State, Chad Thomas of Miami(FL), and Marcell Frazier of Missouri are a few to name. Now is the time to think LT for our first round pick.
i am on board with left tackle as long as that player is the best available.
honestly. i think andrew whitworth is good for at least one more year. possibly two. so i’m not on board with drafting a left tackle for need. only if he is the best player available. the defense needs help right now. the linebacking crew is nothing right now. they could even use another corner.
i’m still for best available player.
InvaderRamModeratorbesides edmunds and vander esch.
i liked dorance armstrong. he didn’t test the best. but he looked good in the drills. smooth. the lack of speed might make him available in the third. and i keep reading that he played out of position last season. when he played in his usual position the year before, he was dominant.
arden key looked alright too. as did harold landry. like i said. this group just seems loaded with athletes. too many to try and mention.
but vander esch is the one i’m really focused on right now.
InvaderRamModeratorok. so. wow.
he’s 6’4″ 256 pounds boise st
arms – 33.875″
hands 9.75″
40 – 4.65s
bench – 20
vert – 39.5″
broad – 124″
3-cone – 6.88s
short shuttle – 4.15sfor comparison – khalil mack
6’3″ 251 poundsarms – 33.25″
hands 10.25″
40 – 4.65s
bench – 23
vert – 40.5″
broad – 128″
3-cone – 7.08s
short shuttle – 4.18swow. great measurables. but question marks on production. why did he only start one year? granted that one year was great.
141 tackles 8.5 tfl 4 sacks 3 int 4 ff
rams need a linebacker bad right now. this guy oozes potential. could probably play multiple linebacker positions. probably drops because of question marks about production.
outside of tremaine edmunds, who will never last until the rams pick, this guy is the one who intrigues me the most of the linebacking crew. just the measurables. haven’t seen him in drills yet. watching it on replay right now.

InvaderRamModeratori gotta say i’m surprised they traded quinn. i thought he had value for this defense. given another offseason, i think he could have adapted to the 3-4.
now they’re extremely thin at edge rushers. they got ebukam and thompson?
but i gotta trust that this front office and coaching staff know what they’re doing.
josh sweat just ran a 4.57… maybe he’ll be available in the third round.
InvaderRamModeratorWell if he’s truly a freak he wont make it to 23.
Wonder what the mocks will do now that the Rams have Peters coming in at CB.
I guess the Rams could go in lots of directions now.
I just hope they dont go crazy and select the BPA. That way lies madness.
w
vhe probably won’t at this point. i could see him going in the top 15. kinda how eric ebron did. i think hybrid players are very in vogue right now, and this kid is a matchup nightmare it looks like.
rams could still pick a cb i think. that second corner is still very much a question mark.
they could pick kolton miller who is also a physical specimen. not a freak. but he moves so well for his size. he’d make an ideal replacement for whitworth i think.
someone is going to drop. whether it’s offensive tackle or corner or linebacker. linebackers are tomorrow.
i can’t wait.
InvaderRamModeratorand just to put this in some kind of perspective. the numbers he just put up. julio jones-like.
ok. maybe not quite megatron-like. i mean that’ll probably never happen ever again. megatron is a true unicorn. but gesicki is a legitimate julio jones-level athlete. jimmy graham-level.
if he’s still there at #23, rams would be silly not to draft this guy. especially if watkins is gone. red zone. deep threat. i don’t care if they already have everett. guys like this don’t come along very often.
InvaderRamModeratorYeah, I like Gesicki too (big surprise) but he’s a TE so he’s not really a replacement for Watkins. He’s extremely athletic and would be great in the red zone where the Rams sorta struggle at times.
you’re right. not exactly a like for like replacement. but he’d replace his targets. we all know mcvay loves tight ends. this is guy tests off the charts.
his shorts shuttle and 3-cone times are in. 4.10 seconds and 6.76 seconds. holy cow. this guys is off the charts! it sounds like you’ve seen plenty of this guy. but he produced as well at penn state. his blocking sounds not very good though. still. just let him run routes and catch the ball!
