thinking about it more. if kolton miller is gone by number 23. rams should trade back and grab him.

i definitely think the rams need to add a weapon on offense. i think tight end makes the most sense.

thinking about tight ends right now cuz by now i think it’s obvious that the rams are looking at tight ends. and mcvay loves tight ends.

i was lurking over at the herd and saw this name – ian thomas.

intriguing because he was interviewed by the rams at the senior bowl.

in terms of just measurables, he’s very intriguing.

    6’4″ 259 pounds
    34 1/8″ arms
    11 1/2″ hands (that’s right. 11 1/2″!!!)
    40 – 4.74 seconds
    vertical – 36″
    broad – 123″
    3-cone – 7.15
    short shuttle – 4.20

those are really good numbers. not great. but for his size. very good. plus you take into account his length which is great. and his enormous hands.

i’d be pretty satisfied if they picked him.

    here’s a video i found on him.

one would also presume that being a year away from his last achilles injury he should be even healthier now. and the left achilles tendon is 2 years removed….

    so there’s that.

i looked up some combine numbers

    short shuttle – 4.16
    3-cone – 7.04
    vertical – 33.5″

not bad. not bad. got some length too with 33″ arms.

if he could get back to his 13-14 form, that’d be something else.

washington apparently has pulled their offer off the table.

While he only posted three sacks, Galette managed 25 pressures and graded as the league’s No. 30 edge defender among 106 qualifiers, per Pro Football Focus.

    interesting.

So if you want a left OT (and there are good reasons to want one) you need to select him in rounds 1 or 2, though 1 is better.

if the rams can get suh, i really want the rams to draft kolton miller.

i don’t think you can pass up a guy with his athletic ability at 23. if he’s available. the rams might not get another chance to draft a left tackle with his potential. let him learn for at least a year under whitworth.

if they can’t sign suh, then i think the rams have to go defense. doesn’t even have to be edge rusher. you could even trade back and get a guy like phillips. or settle. ideally i’d like vea. but no way i trade up to get him. or if they see an edge rusher they really really like, then get him.

but yeah. i agree. i think the rams should be able to find one in the later rounds.

i do want to add that suh got a 91 grade from pff in the run game. although i also realize that was mostly from donald’s position. still. maybe it’s just a matter of adjusting his technique a little. i wouldn’t really know.

huh. so one thing i did not realize. the titans defensive line coach terrell williams was the dolphins dl coach from 2015-2017.

so the titans are either completely ignoring williams’ input regardin suh. or maybe williams looks forward to the chance of working with suh again. maybe somewhere in between?

but the fact that suh is heavily considering the titans. does that mean suh enjoyed working with williams?

    this is from 2015.

either way. or any other way. i think this thing about suh’s coachability is perhaps overstated. maybe way overstated? i don’t know. is it a coincidence that the two leading contenders for his signature have strong ties to suh?

the titans re-signed jones. they have casey. yet they still are going after suh? and didn’t think to ask williams his opinion of suh? or worse ignored his advice (assuming he had bad things to say about suh) and are still trying to sign the guy?

    anyway. just thinking out loud.

So at this point, without them having added anyone in free agency, it looks like they will have to hobble together an outside pass rush out of a rookie, Ebukam, and Longacre.

yeah. i don’t expect any one guy to be that dominant pass rusher. but if you could get several guys with around 5 sacks that would be ok.

but that’s also why i am for getting a guy like suh. not only would he get sacks in pass rush situations. he’s going to create opportunities for other guys. just by commanding double teams. obviously, that’s not the only reason to sign him. but it’s an added bonus. in normal defensive situations is it ideal to have suh at the nose? no. probably not. and maybe not even ideal to have him at end. but wade obviously thinks that stopping the opposing pass defense is the ultimate goal. if they sacrifice some in the running game, he can live with that.

not having him. and having to rely on rookies and second year unknown players like ebukam isn’t going to do it. and i don’t see any clear cut free agents who can provide immediate production.

they could sign a guy like hankins at nose tackle. and then draft a rookie pass rusher. i’m not as comfortable with that.

at the very least, they probably should not have tagged joyner. even if they didn’t plan on tagging sammy.

they most likely could have signed him long-term at a cheaper rate. or signed another safety. i mean there’s a lot of them available right now.

    My position is…

as a football fan, the signing of Suh concerns me.

As a spectator…a connoisseur of “entertainment”… signing Suh is Gold.

i think you could say that about peters and talib too.

but i think the difference here is that all three are known for being hard workers. especially in the case of peters and suh. they get in trouble because they care too much sometimes. talib might just be a little bit off in the head.

but i think all three want to win. and in the case of talib. he knows what it takes to get there.

it’ll be an interesting mix of characters for sure. and los angeles won’t be able to get enough of them.

again. i believe in wade. without wade i don’t think this would ever work.

so they might cut tavon? well. i kind feel sorry for tavon at this point. if that’s true, he really had no place on this offense.

At 31 years old, Suh likely still has plenty left in the tank, so whichever team acquires the star DT will be bringing in a true defensive game-changer.

i’ve read a lot of articles stating that he’s playing some of the best football of his career. the stats may not show it. but his game has matured. his run defense has improved. and he’s still an iron man.

IF he signed with the rams, i’d expect them to bring his snaps down. he’s been in the mid to high 80s the last several seasons. that’s too much. i’d expect his snap counts to be in the mid 70s. just basing that on donald’s snap counts – which was 73.56% (compared to 83.84% for suh with miami). bringing those snap counts down will keep him fresher and maybe he doesn’t take so many plays off.

me being totally and completely biased. i think the best fit for him is the rams. unless tennessee just totally blows him out of the water with a huge contract. but if he’s really interested in growing his brand as i’ve read in some articles. i can’t think of a better place to do it. i can’t think of a better defensive coordinator to best utilize his skills. he’s had to have heard about sonofbum’s rep. his ability to turn defenses around. all the great players he’s coached. on the rams he could take his rep from being a great player to being a legendary player. that’ll do wonders for his post-playing career.

But his youtubes and stats aren’t really impressive. Have you seen anything impressive on youtube for the guy?

no i haven’t. but the rams could trade down and get him.

i read that fsu played him as a 4-3 de so he was a little out of position. a lot of people believe he’ll be better off as a stand up edge rusher.

i like okoronkwo a lot and was pleased to see his 3-cone drill at his pro day. and he’s long. pretty much i’m just repeating what you’ve already written.

rams like him too so wouldn’t be surprised to see rams draft him.

i also wouldn’t mind seeing the rams draft oline in the first round and then getting a guy like armstrong in the third.

agility numbers and explosion not quite on par with the guys you mention but he’s got good length. almost 35″ arms. had a down senior year but also played out of position.

josh sweat ran a sub-7.00 second 3-cone drill at his pro day. that’s exactly the number i wanted to see.

    http://draftanalyst.com/pro-day-march-21-georgia-usc-boston-college

On the other hand, pass rusher Josh Sweat continues to impress. Sweat clocked anywhere from 6.88 to 6.95 in the three-cone and looked good in both defensive line and linebacker drills. The linebacker drills were run by the Baltimore Ravens.

this guy is a prototypical edge rusher. he’s got size (6’4″, 251 pounds). length (34 5/8″ arms). he’s explosive (4.53 40, 39.5″ vert, 124″ broad). the only thing i was wondering about was the agility. but if he ran a 6.9 3-cone, that answers it for me.

i think the rams could trade down and still get this guy. or they might just want to grab him in the first. florida state apparently used him as a defensive end. might flourish as a stand up edge rusher.

biggest concern is his knee, but he’s played 35 games the past three years since his knee injury.

how do we feel about goff? does he regress?

if he regresses, i don’t think anything else matters. and it’s a possibility. even if he is the real deal. lots of qbs regress early in their careers.

but if he bucks the trend. then losing watkins won’t hurt so much. if he continues to learn the offense and knows it inside and out. the offense could be more efficient than last year. especially if guys like kupp and everett continue to improve.

i’m a little worried to be honest. i don’t expect a superstar. i’d be happy with a young efficient tom brady. before tom brady became tom brady. he wasn’t spectacular. but he knew where to go with the ball. more importantly he did it when it counted.

is that too much to ask?

saints would probably be the best bet if winning is the only motivator? but they have no cap space. they’d have to cut some guys. rams and titans have space. they have talent.

rams have rath who has close ties to suh. mcvay has mojo. the idea of playing on that defensive line. playing for sonofbum. it makes sense.

but titans can probably offer more money.

    ok just two more articles.

Cutting Ndamukong Suh hurts, but Dolphins never should’ve signed him

It’s hard to say that’s Suh’s fault when every indication was that he’s been playing some of the best football of his career.

He had 4.5 sacks, 48 tackles, two forced fumbles and Pro Football Focus ranked him No. 4 at his position. He did everything he could for Miami, playing all 48 games and staying on the field for 88.2 percent of the defensive snaps over three years. He totaled 15.5 sacks and 181 tackles.

    It just didn’t matter.

    https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/03/12/ndamukong-suh-cut-dolphins-free-agency-defensive-tackle

As run defenders, Suh and Lotulelei are similar. Both hail from one-gap 4-3 schemes, where they were destructive run penetrators, and both are strong enough to anchor against, and shed, double-team run-blocks.

In Miami, Suh played roughly 85 percent of the snaps—most among all NFL defensive linemen.

More importantly, Suh is versatile on passing downs. On top of 3-technique, he has significant experience aligning at defensive end, standup joker and nose-shade. Suh plays from a narrow stance, which gives him initial burst but can leave him vulnerable to angle blocks. Despite this, he is supremely adept on stunts and twists, which 4-3 defenses rely on in lieu of blitzing. Few players are as selfless and effective at setting up sack opportunities for others on designer pass rush tactics. Suh can make your other pass rushers better.

    https://www.thephinsider.com/2017/6/7/15753748/pff-top-50-players-ndamukong-suh-miami-dolphins

Suh has been a force for the Miami Dolphins since signing for them in a blockbuster free agent move. He has generated 118 total pressures and 80 defensive stops over the past two seasons and played over 1,000 snaps in each year, more than he ever managed for the Detroit Lions. Suh missed just one tackle last season and batted down six passes at the line in addition to his pressure and stops. Really the only negative in his game remains penalties, and for the third straight season he recorded double-digit penalties, though he was at least seven down on 2015’s ludicrous total of 18.

    http://www.espn.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/233132/two-years-later-dolphins-havent-built-defense-around-ndamukong-suh

As we recently passed Suh’s two-year anniversary of signing with Miami, this is an ideal time to reflect what has gone wrong. Should the blame fall on Suh? Or are the Dolphins to blame for not building a better defense around the Pro Bowl defensive tackle?

According to statistical analysis and opinions of personnel executives around the NFL, it is the Dolphins who haven’t held up their end.

Suh, 30, remains a dominant force among defensive tackles. According to ESPN Stats & Information, Suh leads all defensive tackles in total snaps (1,838) and batted passes (11) and is second in tackles (133) and tackles for loss (38) in the past two years. Suh also is durable and has never missed a game in his career due to injury. He missed two games in 2011 via suspension while with the Detroit Lions.

These numbers suggest Suh is still performing at an elite level, especially considering he’s constantly fighting through double-teams and not getting nearly enough help from Miami’s defensive teammates, especially at the linebacker and secondary levels.

Dolphins coach Adam Gase and others within the organization have consistently pointed out that Suh is holding up his end of the bargain and is the least of the team’s worries defensively.

“Suh, I don’t need to talk about him,” Gase said recently at the NFL combine. “Because he’s probably the best in the business.”

This week, ESPN.com reached out to two NFL personnel executives on opposing teams to get a non-biased take on Suh. Both were adamant that poor overall defense – not Suh — was to blame for Miami’s troubles.

One personnel source pointed out that it is relatively easy to scheme around three-technique players, which is how Suh is primarily used in Miami’s defense. Opponents can attack the edges in the running game instead of running up the middle or can double-team Suh with the guard and center in the passing game, especially if other areas of the defense are weak.

That often was a strategy used by Miami’s opponents, which relied on other players around Suh to step up and win one-on-one matchups. Pro Bowl defensive end Cameron Wake, for example, took advantage and got 11½ sacks in a bounce-back year coming off a season-ending Achilles injury. But many other players on Miami’s defense did not.

It is also worth noting that Suh will have his third defensive coordinator in three seasons with the Dolphins. In 2015, former defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle deemed Suh “The Chief” because Suh was his best player. But Coyle’s system failed early, and he was fired along with head coach Joe Philbin, in the middle of the season.

Last year, Vance Joseph came on board as defensive coordinator and changed how Miami played defense. He put Suh in the “Wide-9” scheme, which is similar to what Suh had played with the Detroit Lions. Suh also moved around to become less predictable. He played both defensive tackle spots and lined up some at defensive end during the course of a game.

The results led to Suh having an even better second season and he earned his fifth Pro Bowl selection after recording 72 tackles and five sacks. His best game was against the eventual Super Bowl champion New England Patriots in Week 2, when he recorded a career-high 12 tackles. Suh also had the game-saving tackle against San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick in Week 12 during Miami’s run to the playoffs and 10-win season.

i was just about to post that.

the thing that confuses me though is he also is known for having an incredible work ethic. he’s an enigma for sure.

he didn’t like to practice. on the other hand. i read some stat that he’s led the league in snaps for a dlineman for the past several seasons. he’s extremely durable. he’s only missed 2 games his entire career. for a guy who’s supposedly so unreliable, teams seem to depend on him a lot.

but again. i would agree that he’s not a leader. on this defense, he wouldn’t have to be.

Why Miami Dolphins’ Ndamukong Suh played every single defensive snap on Monday

Suh has played 717 snaps this season, or 85.2 percent.

The defensive lineman with the second-most snaps for Miami is Cam Wake, at 491, or 58.3 percent.

Defensive linemen are generally rotate. Suh is not a rotator.

“I pride myself on it,” Suh said. “I feel like I’m built for it. I feel like I prepare for it in the offseason with my trainer and obviously when we come here for OTAs and minicamps, to get into football shape. I push myself there, as well as in camp.”

Defensive coordinator Matt Burke is generally amazed that Suh’s performance does not decrease with massive workload. On Monday, it just didn’t seem Suh needed to come out (Jordan Phillips and Davon Godchaux split the other defensive tackle reps).

one more thing. i’ve read that he takes plays off. but i’ve also read that he leads the league in snaps played. so is it that he’s playing too much? or that he’s loafing?

i think he’d play less snaps in los angeles which would be better for him. keep him fresh.

yeah. so basically all three would rotate in at nose tackle…

i trust wade on this. i don’t think any of this happens without his blessing.

and basically the meeting will talk about fit. what suh expects and what the rams expect. just like i thought. i think mcvay works his magic on this one. and suh has ties to the strength and conditioning coach.

the only question is money. cuz they will not sacrifice donald to sign suh short-term. can suh’s ego handle that???

    who knows?

i think they make some good points. i think suh and donald would feed off each other. not that donald needs any more motivation. the guy is a beast. but suh would feed off donald’s energy. he’d be forced to bring the best every snap.

i think wade would bring the best out of suh too. and suh is a smart guy. he knows wade and his reputation. all the great defensive players he’s coached. who wouldn’t relish the opportunity to play under sonofbum?

i think donald suh peters talib would be completely frightening.

i think the mob squad would finally be able to live up to its name with these guys.

would they teeter on the edge of self-destruction? quite possibly. they’ll need some strong leadership. not just the coaches, but players are gonna have to step up too.

that’s what i thinking too. but there’s a strong possibility someone they really like falls.

just read that okoronkwo came in for a visit. he should be available in the later rounds though.
