DakParticipant
I think most great coaches are similar in that they demand a lot of their players. I think the difference with Harbaugh is he’s just not likeable on a personal level. You know. He’s a dick.
DakParticipantI have a cousin who is a PSL holder. He’s not reupping his tickets this year. He’s done. He doesn’t hear anything from the franchise until they want his money. It’s definitely going to be a weird year, and I expect a significant drop in attendance. Even more than that, I expect little excitement locally for this team. Who wants to closely follow a lame duck team?
Joe, it sounds like it will be almost exactly like 1994, except in reverse.
DakParticipantI do know this: My sense from the owners in Phoenix was that there’s a lot of momentum for Stan Kroenke’s Inglewood project.
Yeah, that seems to be the prevailing feeling. I’m having a hard time staying engaged with their offseason moves when I feel like the organization is one foot out of St. Louis, already.
March 27, 2015 at 10:50 am in reply to: Kroenke ready to show detailed stadium plans … plus other relocation things #21623DakParticipantI agree with Zooey’s assessment, for the most part.
I also agree that the Ed is a horrible stadium and needs to be replaced, no matter what happens.
What could have happened is that Kroenke could have worked with STL to build a new stadium and surrounding commercial development and “entertainment experience,” and it would have happened, and the Rams would stay here, and who could argue with that outcome? But, SK’s California dreamin’, and steering the ship to L.A. All along the way, the NFL has bowed to SK’s wishes. Moving up the time frame the deadline for a decision on various stadium plans is another move that helps grease the skids for “Silent” Stan.
My prediction at this point is that the NFL will find that St. Louis deserves a franchise, but not as much as L.A., and it’s SK’s team, so sorry, St. Louis fans, hope you find something in the future.
I mean, the writing’s on the wall. I haven’t seen anything happen recently that would change the story.
DakParticipantIt’s like someone made a deal with the Devil. Please keep our O-line intact so we can make some Super Bowl runs … we’ll accept payback later.
When will the Devil stop getting his due?
March 27, 2015 at 10:28 am in reply to: A horrific look back at recent Rams history (you're welcome) #21620DakParticipantJimmy Hart and Cards didn’t fare much better in STL……
I wonder what the overall STL (Gunners, Cardinals, and Rams) football record is?
It ain’t good. The Big Red had a few good years with Air Coryell when I was a wee lad not yet interested in watching sports. Other than that, they rarely sniffed a chance at the playoffs. And if they did, they choked.
Here’s the 1975 Big Red season:
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/crd/1975.htm
Fun fact: After finishing 11-3, they lost their first playoff game to the 12-2 Rams, 35-23, at the Coliseum:
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/197512270ram.htm
The Rams returned two interceptions for TDs in the first half to jump to a 28-9 lead. Looking at the stats, it appears that the Rams ran McCutcheon down the Cardinals’ throats for 202 yards. Jaws had 12 pass completions on 23 attempts.
The next game, Dallas throttled the Rams 37-7 in the NFC championship at the Coliseum. The Cowboys outgained L.A. 441-118 yards. McCutcheon gained 10 yards total this time:

March 26, 2015 at 9:24 am in reply to: A horrific look back at recent Rams history (you're welcome) #21539DakParticipantIt was a horrific look back.
Maybe it’s best we lose this franchise to L.A., and wait to see if we get something better.
March 26, 2015 at 9:23 am in reply to: Kroenke ready to show detailed stadium plans … plus other relocation things #21538DakParticipantHmm, if only there were a recent history showing if fans in those cities would support an NFL team, even if the team sucked.
DakParticipantSomeone go find Old Hacker.
If I had a dime every time someone said that …
DakParticipantWhen that happens keep hitting the back button till you find it.
The board has been a little glitchy today. I said something to RM.
OK. I’ll try to remember that.
DakParticipantWell that’s too bad, b/c I like reading your posts.
To me, even if he plays well, he’s a second round role player. Why not think about Davin Joseph’s replacement at this slot.
I know, I know, I have hindvision and all that.
Yeah, I think they felt fine at O-line last year at that point. I’d rather them continue to go after players rather than positions, myself. Otherwise, you end up drafting guys like Jimmy Kennedy and Alex Barron.
I think at the least Joyner showed that he has potential as a good slot player. If Gaines works out at CB, too, you’re better off as a team with them on your roster. The draft is always hit or miss. It’s the overall picture that I try to look at, and overall this group is doing pretty well. I mean, Donald. Who can argue with that player, even if there were people wondering whether they should have drafted that position.
March 25, 2015 at 2:48 pm in reply to: A horrific look back at recent Rams history (you're welcome) #21436DakParticipantInteresting stuff but according to your years given Bulger was QB for at most 7 years.
Yes, you’re right. That should say 2002-2009, not 2008.
But, it won’t let me edit the post anymore.

DakParticipantI remember the Rams closing out the NFC championship game against a tough Eagles defense by just running Faulk nonstop. It was a thing of beauty.
DakParticipantI wrote a whole post and it got lost when I hit submit.
Basically, yeah, he needs to be better to justify that pick. But, it’s been one (injury riddled) year, so I too will wait and see.
March 25, 2015 at 1:02 pm in reply to: How do people feel about Foles right now, before anything else happens? #21419DakParticipantI think that 2013 was an outlier, and that’s why I’m not so excited. Besides, 2013 happened in a different system. Truly, I have no idea what to expect of Foles here, but my range of possible outcomes is probably not as high as many other Rams fans’. In my range, Foles is somewhere between just below average at QB to the “tough, smart gamer” that wv mentions above. I think that’s his ceiling, and it’s quite a bit below Bradford’s ceiling.

March 25, 2015 at 9:34 am in reply to: How do people feel about Foles right now, before anything else happens? #21407DakParticipantFoles sounds like he could be a roller coaster. Some big plays. Some INTs that vex us. I think he’s a place holder at QB. I’m not excited, but also know he was likely the best option for 2015. This year should show us whether he’s the best option moving forward.
March 23, 2015 at 5:58 pm in reply to: Kroenke ready to show detailed stadium plans … plus other relocation things #21330DakParticipantF Kroenke and his plan.
I am tired of being neutral on the subject. If the NFL had any type of integrity, it wouldn’t let Stan leave St. Louis … and I don’t buy any argument that St. Louis spent too long making an offer. First, they let SK buy the team even though he was in violation of cross-ownership rules. They told him to fix the cross-ownership issue, but he never does. And, now, with St. Louis putting together a plan that includes public assistance, SK steamrolls ahead with this opulent, privately financed stadium in L.A. Everyone’s like, well, it’s Stan’s team. No, it’s an NFL team, in an NFL City, that already lost a team to an owner who expected assistance despite incompetence. But, SK is worse than Bidwill. Bidwill talked to City leaders. Stan says nothing to nobody here. He doesn’t have to say “F you, St. Louis,” that’s obvious. So, F you, Stan. F you, too.
March 20, 2015 at 6:54 am in reply to: Linemen in the 2015 draft … including 2 good Cosell podcasts #21109DakParticipantI’m fine with Scherff. They’d have their answer at guard, and he can back up tackle, or they have a tackle who can move inside. Versatility seems to be very important to this coaching staff.
March 20, 2015 at 6:47 am in reply to: OL in free agency … Barksdale, Blalock, Wisniewski, etc. #21107DakParticipantRams should move on. Go with somebody on the roster or draft a center. He is not a difference maker. He is not that much better than what we have. I would rather save the cap space. I see no real value there.
You do have to wonder why Oakland let him walk and spent a lot of money on a different center.
DakParticipantBut I cannot help but think Fisher comes across as a prick on this one.
Yeah, me too.
zn, you detailed that well. I think that’s exactly how things must have played out. And, I can think of no good reason for Fisher to lie to JT, even if Fisher thought the Rams are outta here in a year.
If Fisher gave two shits, he’d call JT and try to explain, because believe it or not, even a lowly beat reporter deserves some respect. JT’s just trying to do his job. And, it’s not like JT is a muckraker in the first place. He’s not the kind of guy who tries to break stories just to boost his ego, so Fisher could have been elusive and still not made JT look like a fool.
DakParticipantSounds like a backup. Which means, the Rams would still need to acquire a center, guard and tackle. Unless this guy would be the Rams’ new starting guard. Which I’m not too excited about.
- This reply was modified 9 years, 8 months ago by Dak.
DakParticipantPer year.
That’s the going rate on a proven starting QB in his second contract.
So, if you have a QB that you want to be your long-term starter, you have to pay up.
DakParticipantSo many NFL players know the risks and play the game. Borland is one exception. A notable exception, but just one. It usually takes a player to get multiple concussions before deciding to quit the game. I respect Borland’s decision, though. Respect the hell out of it.
DakParticipantI think it’s a fair trade.
I also think the Rams still need to find their QB of the future.
DakParticipantYou assume NFL executives rely on ESPN for their information about who’s on the market. They all know that PR is a separate thing. I think we can safely bet that there were few, if any, teams surprised by Bradford’s trade.
OK, then why lie about it to the local beat reporters? I can see JT’s frustrations.
DakParticipantI don’t even remember what happened before. I’m happy to have X here.
DakParticipantFisher said Bradford probably wouldn’t have been back even if he had agreed to paycut.
I think this is the source of Fisher’s frustration. If we take that statement as truth, then the Rams were basically selling a line of bull the whole time. And, it’s like they were really in Bradford’s camp the whole time. Which is odd, because why wouldn’t you just stay quiet and give out signals that you were shopping Bradford. Maybe you get more offers.
Or, the statement above is untrue.
Maybe JT’s just tired of the bull crap. I could see that.
- This reply was modified 9 years, 8 months ago by Dak.
DakParticipantI wouldn’t have been surprised by the new Foles jersey … but I’m surprised by the new Bradford jersey. I really thought there was a chance the Rams could go after Foles with draft choices. Had no idea that Philly was that hot after Bradford, and that the Rams would really trade Bradford.
DakParticipantNot enough movement on the O-line front for my taste.
DakParticipanti think the chances of taking mariota are increasing by the day.
Yeah, I was just thinking about that. I would say if he’s still there around 6 or 7, the Rams may jump up and get him. I think we’ll know more about their willingness to give up picks after free agency. Will the Rams get the O-line addressed by the draft? If so, it’s time to think about drafting the next young QB prospect. Foles is a place-holder, in my mind. It’s also possible the Rams have some other QB in their sights with the 2nd round pick, and could move up from that pick to get their guy. But, I expect the Rams to draft a QB even more today than before the Bradford trade.
