Los Angeles Rams Trade LB Kenny Young To Denver Broncos And ILB trade Candidates | Locked On Rams

Host Sosa Kremenjas recaps the Los Angeles Rams’ trade of LB Kenny Young to the Denver Broncos on this episode of the Locked On Rams podcast. In shocking fashion, General Manager Les Snead traded Young to the Broncos alongside a 2024 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2024 sixth-round pick. Sosa analyzes what this means for Troy Reeder and Ernest Jones, whether or not Travin Howard will get any snaps, and if the Rams will trade for another linebacker to replace Young. Some of the logical replacements include Dallas Cowboys LB Leighton Vander-Esch, New England Patriots LB Dont’a Hightower, and Las Vegas Raiders LB K.J. Wright. Sosa also highlights CB Jalen Ramsey’s performance against the Detroit Lions.

Rams sign Grant Haley and Jared Pinkney to practice squad

Following Tuesday’s moves to add two players to the 53-man roster, Sean McVay filled out his practice squad
By Venie Randy Soares Oct 20, 2021, 2:04pm CDT

The LA Rams signed cornerback Grant Haley and tight end Jared Pinkney to the practice squad, filling the openings created by the elevation of Donte Deayon and Buddy Howell to the active roster on Tuesday.

Haley originally signed with the New York Giants in 2018 as an undrafted free agent. Starting the season on the PS, he earned an early promotion and played in 10 games, starting nine. At the nickel and slot cornerback positions, he garnered 33 tackles and a PFF grade of 69.3

He struggled in 2019, losing his starting position and his PFF score dropping to 55.4. Haley was eventually released and signed by the New Orleans Saints in 2020. The Saints released him in final training camp cuts in 2021.

Coming out of Penn State, Haley is 5’9, 190 lbs., and ran 4.44 in he forty yard dash. He had 36 starts, played on special teams and was a team captain in his senior year.

Pinkney is 6’4 and 255 lbs. He’s had stints with the Atlanta Falcons, Tennessee Titans, and Detroit Lions.

He fits the Rams TE mold, an athletic player whose blocking strength is movement and not raw power, getting to the second level, establishing and using leverage. Pinkney has college-level experience in zone blocking schemes.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein wrote of Pinkney before the draft:

“…He can handle move blocking duties in space, but doesn’t appear to have enough grit and strength to help inline.”

At 4.96 in the forty, he has enough speed to work the seams. He has good hands, decent length and catches the ball in traffic. Whether he could eventually fill the Johnny Mundt role remains to be seen, but adding these two players fit with LA’s current needs as expected.

Los Angeles Rams to sign free agent EDGE Whitney Mercilus to boost defensive line presence?

Host Sosa Kremenjas breaks down the Los Angeles Rams’ performance this season on this episode of the Locked On Rams podcast. Sosa highlights some transactional news, including the Rams sending TE Johnny Mundt and RB Jake Funk to injured reserve, and signing Buddy Howell and Dont’e Deayon to their active 53-man roster. In addition, Sosa dives into some fun PFF statistics, where the Rams lead the NFL in pressures created, have given up the fewest amount of pressures on offense, and are one of the best passing offenses in the NFL led by QB Matthew Stafford. Lastly, Sosa speculates on whether the Rams should sign free agent EDGE Whitney Mercilus to bolster their pass rush which contains Aaron Donald, Leonard Floyd, Terrell Lewis, and more.

Report: Rams sign RB Buddy Howell to active roster

Report: Rams sign RB Buddy Howell to active roster

Sean McVay told reporters Monday that Jake Funk tore his hamstring against the Giants and will miss the rest of the season. The Rams had just two other running backs on the 53-man roster, but they didn’t waste much time filling Funk’s spot.

According to Houston reporter Aaron Wilson, the Rams are signing Buddy Howell to the active roster from their practice squad. The move won’t be made official until Los Angeles places Funk on injured reserve to create a roster spot, but Howell is on his way to being promoted.

The Rams signed Howell to their practice squad in September, just before Week 1. He’s remained there ever since, providing the Rams with running back depth if needed behind Darrell Henderson Jr., Sony Michel and Funk. The Rams promoted him to the game-day roster in Weeks 3 and 4, but he was limited to only playing special teams.

Howell is a bigger back, standing 6-foot-1 and 213 pounds, now in his fourth season. He has 21 career carries for 74 yards, all with his former team, the Texans.
