from PFF, Fantasy Football Player Profile 2024: Las Vegas Raiders WR Davante Adamshttps://www.pff.com/news/fantasy-football-player-profile-2024-las-vegas-raiders-wr-davante-adams

    Player performance

Adams is a future Hall of Fame receiver who ranges from very good to elite at everything. Unsurprisingly, he hasn’t played as well without Aaron Rodgers. His catch rate was in the 70’s in 2020 and 2021, which fell to 55.6% in 2022 and 58.9% in 2023. Even though his routes per game have remained high, his receiving raw stats have declined.

He will be 32 years old by the end of the season, and his decrease in avoided tackles per game is noteworthy because his receptions per game barely changed from 2022 to 2023. His PFF receiving grade declined, although it was still very good. His touchdown total declined which moved him from a top-five fantasy receiver to a top 10.

    Competition for touches

Even though Adams might not be the same player he was a year or two ago, his utilization and competition for targets are a big reason why Adams hasn’t seen a large decrease in ADP. He remains among the league leaders in route snap percentage, target share, first read target percentage and end zone target share. Simply put, even if he’s less efficient with his receptions, he will still record tons of receptions.

Older comment (from 2020) from James Jones, former Packers receiver: https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/30252122/why-davante-adams-turned-better-all-green-bay-packers-special-receivers

Jones: “When you look at the receivers in the league, you can say that this is their strong point and this is their weak point. With Davante, you can’t say any of that. I watch [Cardinals receiver DeAndre] Hopkins, and he’s not very good releasing at the line of scrimmage, for example. But when you talk about Davante, you’re talking about release, he’s phenomenal. [Yards after catch] yardage, he’s phenomenal. Route running, he’s phenomenal. The ability to go up and make the tough catch, he’s phenomenal. Speed, yeah he’s not 4.3 [seconds], but he’s always getting behind and catching the deep balls or not getting caught from behind. He’s just special in every category.”

Davante Adams was 14th in ESPN’s separation score last season despite his age.

Still an elite separator and will bring the juice the Rams have missed since OBJ in their Super Bowl run.

In Sean McVay’s eight years as the head coach, the Rams have only had one other year where they averaged fewer yards per game than they averaged (331) in 2024. That was the 2022 season where things went off the rails and everyone was hurt in the second half of the year.

It became clear that the offense needed help around Matthew Stafford, Kyren Williams and Nacua, and the front office wasted no time making a splash. The team agreed to a two-year, $46 million deal with Davante Adams on Sunday, bringing in one of the top wide receivers on the market.

With Cooper Kupp on his way out of Los Angeles via trade or release, the Rams could use another wide receiver to pair with Nacua. Adams is a terrific fit in L.A., specifically with the offense McVay runs. Even at the age of 32, Adams is still a threat no matter where he lines up on the field.

His route running is among the best of any wide receiver in the league, with eye-popping releases at the line of scrimmage that allow him to create easy separation. According to ESPN, Adams was 14th in separation score last season, showing just how often he got open for his quarterbacks.
