The Rams have the #1 defense in football against the pass.

    #1.

It’s good to be #1 at something.

So maybe the sacks aren’t so important? Maybe all that matters are overall results.

    Total defense overall is #13.

They could be better–but they can’t defend the run.

    29th.

While they held a struggling Lesean McCoy to 81 yards and a 3.4 average….Sproles rushed for 51 yards on 7 carries.

Add in Foles 13 yards and they gave up 145 yards on the ground.

The 9ers present a big problem–3rd in the league at 145 yards a game on the ground. And we know that some of that comes from a mobile quarterback.

So the Rams will go back to the drawing board again this week and try to stop the run. If they succeed they have a great chance to win this game. If the big runs keep coming…well, it’ll be back to the drawing board again.

But the Rams surprisingly do not lead in penalties per game–in fact the Rams check in at 9.0 which is better than the 9ers who have 9.6.

However, the Rams have the most PENALTY YARDS per game. 96.8 yards a game. That’s nearly a hundred yards a week in penalties.

In turnovers the Rams have more fumbles per game(2.5) than any other team.

So yes–stop the run, clean up the mistakes and win ball games.

Let’s see if they can do that.

he Rams have the #1 defense in football against the pass.

    I think that’s misleading.

They’re 1st in passing attempts against, meaning, they are thrown on the least of all 32 teams.

But they are 26th in yards per attempt passing on defense.

Which means if anyone DOES start throwing on them, they will give up lots of yards.

Listen, if you are going to start throwing your numbers and facts around here you won’t get anywhere.

I am more interested in sort of fuzzy theories–not any sort of actual data.

The whole point of the defense is to give the other team the run so they WON’T have to throw the ball. It’s all part of Greg Williams strategy and I don’t know why you would question it.

They are throwing less to avoid taking sacks, when they do throw it’s short getting the
    ball out quick.

I think that theory has merit. Teams are doing what they need to do to avoid pressure on their QBs. If this D can control the run and get a lead, we’ll see what this pass D can really do.
