Obviously the #Rams ate too many crabcakes this week in Baltimore.

#Rams Mannion is a bit of a victim on the dropped pass and some shody blocking, but he just hasn’t looked sharp throughout camp. It’s right to expect more from a quarterback going into his fourth year

One thing to note: There is confidence in #Rams building that, if it came to down to Mannion having to step in as starter, Sean McVay is good enough to coach him up and put the offense in position to be effective. That said…..You’d still like to see more from a guy in year 4

Nice coverage by #Rams LB Ramik Wilson. He’s had a really strong camp

Like what I am seeing from #Rams Noteboom at LT. Good power and surge on the run block and nice footwork ansd quickness on the pass block.

Me thinking, we need to get some help at backup QB soon. Colin Kapernick is still out there. He may be worth a look. Better than whet we got now. There is also talk, that the Ravens may only keep two QBs on the roster, maybe RG3 as a possibility as well.

In terms of back-ups, I think Allen is fine and would like to see him with the 1s.

One of the things this game showed is that you can’t spend 3 days practicing away and then play a game.

It;s like every team that tried the “stay for an extended time” routine travelling to a London game. The ones that did it that way got whacked.

Five Takeaways: Running Backs Impress in Rams Preseason Opener vs. Ravens

    Myles Simmons

    https://www.therams.com/news/five-takeaways-running-backs-impress-in-rams-preseason-opener-vs-ravens

BALTIMORE — The Rams began their preseason slate on the East Coast, falling to the Ravens, 33-7.
But being that it’s preseason, the final score far from tells the whole story. With that in mind, here are five takeaways from the first exhibition matchup of 2018.
    1) RAMS REST THEIR STARTERS
As expected, head coach Sean McVay elected to rest nearly all of Los Angeles’ starters for the first preseason contest. McVay had previously said on Tuesday that much of the work the Rams were able to get against the Ravens during practice could serve as a kind of substitute for game action.
The only starters who played were right guard Jamon Brown — who will be suspended for the first two games of the season — and second-year outside linebacker Samson Ebukam.
“It just kind of felt good to have that live mindset because all this time we’ve just been laying off on the [quarterback],” Ebukam said at halftime. “This felt good just to turn loose one time. It’s just the first preseason game. It’s like oiling ourselves right now. We’re just getting loose, getting ready for the season.”
Ebukam recorded a tackle in his first game action of the preseason. But he also rushed the passer effectively, forcing Baltimore’s quarterbacks off of their spots in ways that led to sacks.
    2) WESTBROOKS GETS SACKS
While defensive lineman Ethan Westbrooks is not currently listed as a starter, he’s been taking first-team reps throughout training camp at three-technique given the absence of defensive lineman Aaron Donald. Westbrooks showed the work is paying off, recording two sacks in the first half.
Both sacks came in the second quarter and on third down, helping to end Baltimore possessions. On the first, Westbrooks got to quarterback Lamar Jackson and brought him down before outside linebacker Justin Lawler could come in and clean it up. Then Westbrooks brought down Jackson again on 3rd-and-5 from the Baltimore 25, this time with inside linebacker Bryce Hager there to help.
Westbrooks is heading into his fifth NFL season after first signing with the Rams as an undrafted free agent out of West Texas A&M.
    3) OFFENSE SPUTTERS IN FIRST HALF
There’s no way around it: Los Angeles’ offense did not perform well in the first half.
The unit recorded only three first downs on 25 plays, picking up 45 total yards in the game’s first 30 minutes. The club ended the first half 1-of-7 in third-down efficiency.
Quarterback Sean Mannion started the contest and finished just 3-of-13 for 16 yards with an interception. He was also sacked twice, losing 13 yards on the plays.
Los Angeles’ offense was undoubtedly vanilla when it comes to scheme, and the unit was missing nearly all of its starters. And it is the first preseason game after all. But it was a disappointing night for the offense when it comes to overall performance.
    4) DAVIS, KELLY PROVIDE SPARKS
There’s been some thought that running backs Justin Davis and John Kelly may be competing for a roster spot as the club’s third RB. If that is the case, Davis and Kelly likely made the decision tougher with their performances.
Davis ran well in the first half, taking seven carries for 41 yards. His longest run began a second-quarter drive and went 17 yards. The second-year running back has had a solid training camp so far.
Kelly entered the game in the second half and provided the offensive highlight of the game — taking a carry 40 yards down the field. The play began with Kelly running to his right, but he made a nice cut and ended up running diagonally toward the left sideline. Rookie wide receiver Steven Mitchell also had a nice block on the play.
The 2018 sixth-round pick out of Tennessee continued his strong play in the fourth quarter, taking a carry 14 yards with a solid cut to move Los Angeles deep into Baltimore territory for the first time all game.
Kelly finished the game with 13 carries for 77 yards, also making a pair of receptions for 14 yards.
    5) NATSON RETURNS WELL
Wide receiver JoJo Natson had a lot of opportunities for returns and made the most of them — both on kicks and punts.
Natson returned seven kickoffs, averaging 23 yards on each with a long of 27 yards. And he returned four punts averaging 14.3 yards per return. His longest punt return went 29 yards up the right sideline to start a touchdown drive, with defensive lineman Brian Womac posting a solid block to spring Natson.
Additionally, Natson had a key third-down reception for nine yards on Los Angeles’ first scoring drive in the fourth quarter.

I didn’t watch the game. I just saw the score. My reaction? Wake me up when the regular season begins. The Ravens under Harbaugh have an amazing preseason record because they care and try. Let me know when our starters play.

it’s the Rams’ backups vs the Ravens’ starters. Don’t read too much in to it.

    Myles Simmons@MylesASimmons
Noteboom in at LT. Allen in at C for LA to start this drive. Demby at RT. Nice blocks by Noteboom and Allen to start a run for Justin Davis, goes 7 yards.

You know it’s the preseason, and that the team is in good shape, when the most intriguing position battle is for the No. 3 running back spot.

    Downtown Rams@DowntownRams
John Kelly in just four plays has shown excellent ability to spell Todd Gurley on third down. Kelly shows vision on the first run and burst, third play he shows his receiving ability out of the backfield and fourth play is a nice blitz pickup. #Rams have someone here.

We are seriously going to lose our minds over one bad PRESEASON game for Troy Hill after he shut it down in the POSTSEASON? Yeah. Nope. Not dying on that island.

    ==

    Rich Hammond@Rich_Hammond
Sean Mannion: “It’s certainly not my best performance. I really wasn’t able to get into a rhythm early. So obviously I was disappointed with how the whole game went”

Sean McVay on Sean Mannion’s game: “I certainly don’t want this performance tonight to be indicative of the type of camp he has had. It’s such a small sample size. Some of the situations he was put in were really just tough spots.”

    Louis Riddick@LRiddickESPN
Can’t wait to hear all the “smart” football talk about how bad preseason football is/ and how they wish there wasn’t any, and then the same people say how the the level of play in the regular season is bad, yet have no idea how to improve it. #nfl

After seeing this game, I’m not sure Jared Goff should play a single snap in the preseason. Rams are in trouble if he goes down.

I think the season is lost.

McVay has lost this team. He can’t even get more than two starters to play, and they get drummed 23-zip the first half.

I would see if Tommy Prothro is available.

Jared Goff and Todd Gurley wore sweats as they stood on the sideline Thursday night during the Rams’ 33-7 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Sean McVay elected to sit not only his top playmakers, but his entire starting lineup (With the exception of right guard Jamon Brown, outside linebacker Samson Ebukam and specialists) in the preseason opener. After two joint practices with the Ravens earlier in the week, McVay said he wanted to avoid the risk of potential injuries. But the backups struggled — especially on offense. Sean Mannion played the first half (3-for-13 for 16 yards, INT), and Brandon Allen (10-for-15 for 73 yards, TD) in the second. The biggest bright spot came from the running back position, where second-year pro Justin Davis and rookie John Kelly are competing for the No. 3 spot. Both looked sharp and Kelly broke for a 40-yard run late in the game. The defense appeared out of sync as it allowed 403 total yards.

Seven Stats: Rams Fall to Ravens 33-7 in Preseason Week 1

    Clarence Dennis

    https://www.therams.com/news/seven-stats-rams-fall-to-ravens-33-7-in-preseason-week-1

The Los Angeles Rams started off the 2018 preseason with a loss to the Ravens in Baltimore. The Rams, who rested nearly all starters on Thursday night, struggled to get much going on offense against the Ravens defense.
    1. PLAGUED BY PENALTIES
The Rams racked up penalties on Thursday night. In an especially rough first half, the Rams were flagged nine times for 72 yards. Safeties Marqui Christian and Blake Countess committed consecutive unnecessary roughness penalties by leading with the helmet, a newly imposed rule in 2018. The pair of flags equated to 30 yards for the Ravens on a drive that ended with a 29-yard field goal by kicker Justin Tucker.
    2. RAMS TAKE AN “L”
The Rams entered Thursday’s contest in Baltimore 4-0 all-time against the Ravens in the preseason. The 33-7 loss eliminates the Rams’ perfect preseason record against the Ravens. All five meetings have come since 2008.
    3. ROOKIE LEADS RUSHERS
On a night where Los Angeles couldn’t find its offensive rhythm, rookie running back John Kelly exploded late in the third quarter for what was arguably the offensive play of the night. Kelly picked up 40 yards on a pitch from quarterback Brandon Allen, good for the the longest run of the night for L.A. Kelly finished leading all rushers with 77 yards on 13 carries.

    4. WESTBROOKS’ MULTI-SACK GAME
Defensive end Ethan Westbrooks sacked Ravens’ rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson twice on Thursday night. Westbrooks’ two sacks in tonight’s preseason game matched his season totals from both 2015 (2.0) and 2016 (2.0). Westbrooks has eight career regular-season sacks.
    5. ALLEN OUTPLAYS MANNION
Third-year quarterback Brandon Allen took the reins on offense from starter Sean Mannion to start the third quarter. Mannion was 3-of-13 for just 16 yards passing with one interception. Allen, who did not see the field at all last season, finished 10-for-15, 73 yards passing, and the only touchdown of the night. Allen connected late with receiver KhaDarel Hodge on an eight-yard touchdown pass.

    6. HEKKER KEPT BUSY
Punter Johnny Hekker joined the list of Rams who didn’t seem himself Thursday night. The Pro-Bowl punter uncharacteristically shanked his third punt of the night, sending the ball only eight yards up the sideline. Last season, Hekker averaged 47.9-yards per punt. Hekker punted it away seven times in the preseason opener, with the Rams unable to keep their defensive second and third units off of the field.
    7. THIRD DOWN WOES
Finally, the Rams struggled heavily on third downs. The offense was 4-for-15 moving the chains on third down, a conversion rate of about 26 percent. Last season, the Rams’ high-scoring offense converted 88-of-214 third down trys, good for a conversion rate of about 41 percent. Fortunately for Rams fans, the higher conversion rate came with starters like quarterback Jared Goff and running back Todd Gurley on the field.

    Did Davis fumble ?

    Speak of the devil.

Rams running back Justin Davis has a better grip in this year’s preseason opener

    Gary Klein

    https://www.latimes.com/sports/rams/la-sp-rams-report-20180809-story.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

There was no way the ball was going to hit the ground.
Not after last year’s preseason opener, when Rams running back Justin Davis fumbled twice in his first series.

The miscues marred an otherwise impressive debut performance by the former USC tailback, who signed with the Rams as an undrafted free agent and spent most of his rookie season on the roster but inactive for games.
On Thursday night, Davis held the ball tight and rushed for 41 yards in seven carries, one of the few bright spots in a 33-7 loss to the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium.
“It definitely crossed my mind,” Davis said of last season’s first-game struggle. “But it’s a new year and it’s night and day for me.”
With Todd Gurley and other starters held out, Malcolm Brown started at running back and played two series before Davis came on for the rest of the first half. His top play was a 17-yard run.
“He’s kind of just one cut away,” from breaking longer plays, coach Sean McVay said.
Rookie John Kelly played in the second half and rushed for 77 yards in 13 carries, including a 40-yard run near the end of the third quarter.
“It was a good experience,” said Kelly, a sixth-round draft pick from Tennessee. “It was fun to get an opportunity to get out there and experience the NFL playing against someone in a game setting.”

    Countess injured

Rams safety Blake Countess suffered a first-quarter shoulder injury on a play that he was penalized on for lowering his head.
The injury marred an otherwise enjoyable week for a player who grew up only a few minutes from the Ravens’ practice facility in Owings Mills, and had a crowd of nearly 60 family and friends at the game.
Before he was injured, Countess broke up a pass from Joe Flacco intended for Michael Crabtree.
“This is like a homecoming,” Wendell Countess, Blake’s father, said before the game. “It is a business trip, and it’s fun for the friends and family.”

Said Melody Countess, Blake’s mother: “It’s almost like coming full circle…. To have him come back now and get back to all the people that have supported him.”
Randy Smith, who coached Countess in youth football, said he teared up when he watched Countess play for Auburn against Michigan in college. Thursday night was the first time watching him in person as a pro.
“Knowing that you helped him develop the love or maintain the love of football, and made a difference in a young man’s life, that’s why you coach,” Smith said.

from PFF: ReFocused, NFL Preseason Week 1: Baltimore Ravens 33, Los Angeles Rams 7

    https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pro-refocused-2018-ravens-33-rams-7

    ANALYST TAKEAWAYS

Rams QB Sean Mannion had a game to forget. He struggled to complete any passes as he went just 3-of-13 with an interception through the first half. He also had quite a few passes batted at the line of scrimmage, as well as a fumble. The offensive line did not help much, but Mannion did not look comfortable at all.

John Kelly should see more touches next week as he made the most of his opportunities in his professional debut. He turned a pitch play to the right side into a huge gain for a Rams offsense that had been struggling all night. He also showed good vision and good cut ability as he made the most of his chances.

The Rams struggled on defense, in particular the secondary as Baltimore rolled up 403 yards including 263 yards passing. Edge defender Samson Ebakum was a bright spot as he was nearly unblockable rushing the passer. His athleticism and quickness with his hands give him an array of moves to use on blockers

    KEY TO THE GAME

Baltimore: Ravens’ quarterbacks made plays most of the night even when things broke down. Jackson flashed his athletic ability with scrambes and Flacco looked as sharp as he has in a long time. The Rams defense seemed to be a step behind most of the night.

Los Angeles: While the offense struggled overall, Kelly was the lone bright spot. He averaged 5.9 yards per carry and had nice plays in both the running and passing game, proving his worth on the roster.

i got around to watching the late NFL airing of the Rams Ravens game tonight.

i focused solely on Oline and honestly didn’t even watch the defense. Just rewound every play on offense until i could determine what each olineman was doing and how well he did it.

    Here are my General Observations:

    The Bad:

1 Brian Allen won’t make it at this level. disappointing to say it but he was getting manhandled more than a few times vs the pass and in the run game. I was
for the draft pick but when your getting manhandled vs second stringers it’s not a good sign.

2 Lucas – still can’t handle edge rushers. Too bad because he has some redeeming qualities.

    The Good:

1 Jamil Demby – Best Olineman on film last night. Its only one preseason game vs backups but boy was he solid vs run and pass. his wide body work really does remind you of Saffold. He also plays some solid RT.

2 Jake EldrenKamp – Just like last preaseason, Jake was solid. Nothing dominant here, but he is consistent, scheme conscientious, quick on his feet and has solid hand usage. Great backup depth for sure at guard and center.

I haven’t watched the game yet, but I’m glad to read the positive reports about Demby and Noteboom. Depth on the oline will be important. I’m wondering if there is any chance that the Rams keep both Kelly and Davis and cut Malcolm Brown.

Obviously the #Rams ate too many crabcakes this week in Baltimore

I think I agree with this… have you folks ever had mid Atlantic crab cakes from Maryland?…… they’re fantastic……

Mannion stunk last night, but I think a 90 man roster with a bunch of rookies having the
extra HOF game under their belt was big advantage for the Ravens extended roster….

#42 for the Rams was a very smooth lookin running back… nice moves
John Kelly ended up 13 carries for 77 = just shy of 6 yards per attempt….

my thots on a bunch of guys I watched….

    QBs:
Mannion?……….no freakin way…too slow and too deliberate…and NOT accurate. I’ve hated the drafting of Mannion for years…and right to do so! lol
Allen……………… did okay, I’d like to see more reps after Mannion is cut and they sign a vet QB for 2nd string.

    RBs:
Brown……………..I’d let him go, frankly…too slow tho a fine pounder.
Davis………………Yep, like last year…this kid’s got some juice and talent…just needs to hang onto the ball.
Kelly……………….Yep, this kid’s fer real and offers way more than Brown. Davis & Kelly should be vying for 2nd string. imo

    WRs:
…………………meh, they didn’t pass much and I didn’t notice much other than #19 Natson?…er, Tiny Tavon the 2nd. winking smiley

    TE:
Hemingway…….is Fool’s Gold….a coach killer. It’ll be Higbee or Everett until they draft another and get it right.

    OL:
Noteboom……….looked okay…good feet..a little confused at times, but got into the scrum other times. did okay at OT spots on both sides at times.
Allen……………….looked physically overwhelmed, at times….too many times…but was pretty mobile on some plays.
Denby……………..slow & confused….but might be an anchor at RG in a year when he gets stronger.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    DL:
    Westbrooks……….played well and had 2 sacks….probably a starter on another team…..was active/solid.
    Sebastion-Day……okay…
    Franklin-Myers……..I didn’t notice….did he even play?
Lawler…………………a Longacre clone….exactly, so functional…and pretty active in on tackles / around the ball.
TYoung………………..I like his hustle and natural ability…like many rooks…just a bit slow to react at times.

LBs: – the best group of rookies, I thought
    Hager………………….did okay, I thought..was active.
Kiser…………………..was pretty active for his first real experience playing…reminded me of a very young LFletcher in his build and play.
TScales………………..was very fast and active at times…
THoward……………….I get Howard & Scales mixed up cuz they’re the same type of player. lol

    DBs:
I didn’t pay too much attention

Rams vs. Ravens: Studs and duds from L.A.’s 26-point loss

    Cameron DaSilva

Rams vs. Ravens: Studs and duds from L.A.'s 26-point loss

The Los Angeles Rams kicked off the 2018 preseason on Thursday night against the Baltimore Ravens, but not with a bang. They were dominated by a score of 33-7, failing to get into the end zone until the fourth quarter.

As with every game, there were some players who stood out for all the right reasons, as well as those who struggled in the preseason opener. We categorize these as studs and duds.

    Studs

    LB Micah Kiser

Kiser didn’t have his name called by many media members prior to Thursday night, but he was all over the field against the Ravens. He made a game-high six tackles, got in the quarterback’s throwing lanes and filled holes on defense. That’s something the Rams’ linebackers struggled to do last season with Alec Ogletree in the middle of the defense.

Kiser has an uphill battle to earn playing time with Mark Barron and Cory Littleton being the projected starters, but if he continues to play the way he did on Thursday, coaches will take notice.

    DL Ethan Westbrooks

Westbrooks put on a show in the first half, recording two tackles, both of which were sacks. Each of them came on third down, forcing the Ravens to either punt or kick a field goal, which Justin Tucker missed from 60 yards out. Those were the two best plays the Rams defense made in the first half, keeping points off the board.

Additionally, he pressured Lamar Jackson on his touchdown run, nearly getting to him for a loss. This was a great performance by him as he’s essentially a lock to make the roster with his versatility at defensive end and tackle.

    RB Justin Davis

Davis is a preseason stud. After showing out last year, he continued his strong exhibition play against the Ravens on Thursday night. He carried it seven times for 41 yards, excluding a would-be 10-yard gain if not for offsetting penalties. Most importantly, he held onto the football after struggling with fumbles last preseason.

He could push Malcolm Brown for a roster spot, especially with John Kelly likely to make the roster as a rookie. He provides a spark similarly to the way that Tavon Austin did at running back.

Honorable mentions: John Kelly, JoJo Natson

    Duds

    QB Sean Mannion

Where to begin. His check downs were behind receivers, he hardly took chances downfield, and when he did, his passes were either incomplete or picked off. He finished the game 3-for-13 with just 16 yards and an interception, posting an abysmal 7.5 passer rating.

This was a game in which he needed to play well in order to hold off Brandon Allen and Luis Perez, both of whom are cheaper and offer greater upside. Nothing about his performance against the Ravens was impressive, showing very little awareness and accuracy on his dropbacks.

    CB Troy Hill

This certainly wasn’t Hill’s best performance. After playing extremely well against the Falcons in the postseason, Hill struggled in this one. He was beaten by Michael Crabtree for a 30-yard gain after Joe Flacco escaped the pocket, was called for illegal hands to the face on a crucial third-down red zone play and gave up another long pass to Chris Moore down the middle. Coverage was decent, but he didn’t get turned around quick enough.

    OTs Cornelius Lucas/Darrell Williams

Neither of the Rams’ backup tackles helped themselves in this one, each allowing a sack on Mannion. Williams was beaten by Terrell Suggs as he got to Mannion to force the fumble, which luckily went out of bounds. In the running game, the line performed well, but that was when Joseph Noteboom and Brian Allen came into the game.

I really been keying on the O-linemen….

Williams will get cut…. I just don’t see him making the team…
last year we just didnt have any body to replace Williams or Lucas…

Lucas,,, when I saw him in camp,,, I thought he was holding up his own,,,
I said I would wait until pre-season to go up against speed rushers…
Well that answer has been said,,, He is not cutting it either….

I’ve stated that both Noteboom and Demby need to hit the weight room to build up their upper body….

To be honest,,, from what I’ve been watching on tape and in camp, I feel Demby is a little stronger at this moment in the upper body than Noteboom…

They both have their technique down,,, but Demby seems to be more of a mauler once he gets a hold of his opponent… I can see him coming in at the beginning as a swing tackle before Noteboom… IMO

But after watching last nite pre-season game… I see no reason for Lucas or Williams to be kept,,, both Noteboom or Demby could do as much as they did… So I say cut those vet OT… and go with the younger guys..

Rams backup quarterback Sean Mannion, who is in the final season of his contract, struggled last night against the Ravens, completing 3-of-13 passes for 16 yards, with an interception, in the first half. He also was sacked twice. Sean McVay said Friday that a “Combination of a lot of tough things” contributed to Mannion’s performance. “Certainly Sean missed some throws and some things that are uncharacteristic of him, but the protection – there was a couple of times he didn’t really have a chance to let things develop,” McVay said. “He had a couple of drops, so I think it was kind of a perfect storm of really a lot of things didn’t work out in his favor.” McVay has not revealed if starters will play on Saturday against the Raiders. Regardless, it’s likely Mannion will once again play a significant amount.

Pre-season football sucks. It just does.

I’d like to see Mannion get some reps with the starters this week. If he still stinks it’s time to move on from him.

Noteboom played against the back-ups back-ups but looked good.

Rams are loaded at running back.

    That is all.

    THE OL

I have a good feeling about this class. Noteboom is very impressive, Demby is almost as impressive, but not OLT material. Noteboom will be able to play 4 positions. Allen got blown up once, bad…but played very well for a rookie, at Guard and Center. Demby can play either Guard, or ORT. He was impressive.

Noteboom, Allen, and Demby are safe for sure. I think we will keep the next best OLT, because Demby can play G/ORT. Noteboom is the best, and our future OLT. I think we got a steal here, needs a little strength and seasoning., but…wow. Demby and Noteboom, both have really good feet, and are very fluid players. They both need some strength, and to learn some technique on how to re-anchor. They look like long term potential starters to me. Demby is way more athletic than he looks.

Tons of competition on the inside. Buyers choice.

Blythe is the most seasoned. Blythe is tough, disciplined and effective. Can be a starter, but ideal as a C/G backup.

Neary, if he could play with leverage at all times, he would be sneaky good. He understands the game, but physically, will never be a dominant player. His biggest problem is his leverage…he plays too high, when he plays low, he plays well.

Allen plays with amazing lleverage, and he is smart, with strength, but he got caught pulling on one play, and got blown up, which resulted in a TFL against us. Only once though. He will drive through a player, and finish. I think he will be able to play both Guard and Center. Blythe and Eldrencamp can probably play the same positions, which is a good thing, but Allen is already playing close to their level as a rookie, so, IMO, he has room to grow.

Eldrencamp, just gets the job done, doesn’t stand out out, good or bad, which is not a bad thing for an OL’man. He is in the picture, same as the next guy….

Brown was very disappointing, and I am a fan. He was unable to sustain blocks, which directly led to giving up tackles. He, at this point has not improved in strength, or attitude.

I had the game recorded. I tried to watch it. I ended up deleting it. I hope the play better against the Raiders.

    SOME FOLLOW-UP

Kiser was VERY impressive. He may be the quickest to diagnose and react to plays of the LBs. Man if Kiser was only say a year into an NFL pro-training program, then I’d have no doubts, but he was super impressive to me as it stood. One of the top 5 debut players for the Rams in game 1. He will easily make the team. He will be a stud on the special teams, this year. He is fast, and plays so. He’s a 4.5 to 4.6 guy, which is very fast for a linebacker. But Kiser also diagnoses plays very fast. I have very high hopes for him.

I had no expectations for him, but Lawler looked like a seasoned pro. He played under control, and at a high level every snap he had. I could see him as a long time pro. I don’t see him as an all-star. He played very well for a rook.

Trevon Howard and Joseph Noteboom are my two most hopeful future all-star Rams. In one pre-season game they stood out to me. I was very impressed. These two looked like future great players. Not super highly drafted but “stuff” stood out.

Micah Kiser is a guy hasn’t made much of an impression in training camp, but he was all over the field against the Ravens. He made a game-high six tackles and filled running lanes the way Alec Ogletree failed to last season. He’ll look to keep up his strong play heading into the next preseason game and eventually Week 1.
