Demby Played at Senior Bowl–Kiper-McShay Comments
Kiper & McShay talked about him on the ESPN broadcast
Kiper: I wasn’t wowed over…didn’t dominate as a run blocker like he should have …..started at LT…..saw some positives in PassPro from a footwork standpoint and from a technical aspect of playing LT, only 17 reps at combine…..there’s a lot to work for a LT with decent feet….showed he can be a pass protector at the pro level….needs year of development
McShay: I think he’s more of a OG in the pros….didn’t have a great combine…..had a really good week at the Senior Bowl….showed toughness against top level competition…..in the 6th round you’re just looking for a backup who can contribute

JAMIL DEMBY | Maine 6044 | 319 lbs. | SR. Vineland, N.J. (Vineland) 6/20/1996 (age 21.9) #65
BACKGROUND: A no-star offensive guard recruit out of high school, Jamil (JAH-meal) Demby (Dem-bee) was a First Team all-conference offensive tackle at Vineland, earning several accolades on the field and in the classroom. He attracted attention from Northeast FBS-programs like Boston College, Rutgers and Maryland, but he only received offers from FCS-level schools, committing to Maine. Demby saw immediate action as a true freshman, starting 10 games at left tackle. He started 10 games at left tackle as a sophomore and again as a junior, earning Third Team All-CAA honors in 2016. Demby returned for his senior season and started all 10 games in 2017, taking home First Team All-CAA and multiple All-American honors. He accepted his invitation to the 2018 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl and drew enough attention to earn a late invitation to the 2018 Senior Bowl.
YEAR (GP/GS)
2014: (10/10) 10 LT
2015: (10/10) 10 LT
2016: (10/10) 10 LT
2017: (10/10) 10 LT
Total: (42/40) 40 LT

COMBINE 6044 319 33 3/4 10 79 1/4 5.68 3.17 1.87 23 1/2 08’02” 4.95 7.86 17
PRO DAY N/A (positional drills only)STRENGTHS: Square-framed with desired body girth for the position…core strength to withstand punches and not let bull rushes alter his blocking plan…balanced, controlled steps in space…keeps rushers at bay when he locks out his long arms…able to pull and trap block…sinks his hips at contact to strengthen his base…drives his legs in the run game to generate movement…two-year team captain with a coachable attitude…earned multiple Academic All-CAA honors and is currently taking online classes to finish his degree in kinesiology and exercise science, graduating in May…started all four seasons as Maine’s left tackle.
WEAKNESSES: Heavy legged with below average on-the-move efficiency…struggles to recover after giving up body position…core flexibility is an issue…susceptible to inside moves…little consistency at the second level…poor timing with his punch and doesn’t utilize his length with any consistency…displays initial pop, but wears down quickly in the rep, struggling to accurately counter pass rush moves…pads rise as a run blocker, leaving little room for error…room to add more glass to his diet to match the physicality of defenders…most of his experience came vs. FCS-level competition, not facing a FBS-level opponent in 2017.
SUMMARY: A four-year starter at Maine, Demby earned the starting left tackle job shortly after arriving in Orono and didn’t give up his post, starting 40 games in his career. He doesn’t have ideal experience against top talent, but didn’t look out of place during NFLPA Collegiate Bowl or Senior Bowl practices against better competition. Demby has a study base with NFL dimensions with his frame, length and hand size, moving bodies when he can unleash his raw strength. His lack of core and lower body flexibility creates a small margin for error, struggling to recover after a false move. Overall, Demby has only average athleticism, which leads to technique and discipline lapses, but a move inside to guard with his inline power will benefit his NFL transition, projecting as a developmental lineman.

SCOUTING REPORT
This big, bad bully was a force to be reckoned with at the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in January of 2018, dominating one-on-ones and winning in the trenches. He stood out the entire week, shoving several defenders down to the ground with a stiff, one-armed jab. His strength and physicality were on full display, as he held his ground well at the point of attack. He also demonstrated sound footwork, solid technique, size and athleticism. The four-year starter at left tackle received a call to the Senior Bowl after his noteworthy performance (coached by the Denver Broncos staff), where he went on to enjoy another stellar week and he solidify himself as a day three prospect. He racked up numerous accolades and honors during his time at Maine, while evolving into the leader of the entire team. Possesses the skillset to play all three positions along the offensive line. He is expected to become the second Black Bears player drafted in the past three years (Trevor Bates Rd.7 in in 2016 by Colts).

Jamil Demby is from South Jersey and played at Maine, but he has a connection with the Rams. His offensive coordinator at Maine, Liam Coen, is now the Rams assistant WRs coach.April 29, 2018 at 6:35 pm #85706znModeratorNote…this is Snead’s wife:

Demby is super smooth, good heavy hands and a solid base. Demby could play ORT to “finish a game” as Mayock says … but he’s better suited to man the inside.
Demby never seemed hurried or off balance, that was my biggest plus.
I thought he’d go way earlier, 3rd or 4th round honestly. As soon as he fell i knew we’d nab him (or Adams).
He’s one of those guys that may be a tad overwhelmed his first year, but should be serviceable anyway, and when he gets used to the competition play in play out he could be a high quality starter.

Demby is a well-built, wide-framed college tackle who projects inside to guard. He’s naturally strong with some pop at the point of attack, but his ability to sustain is inconsistent due to his lack of bend and inconsistent hand usage. Demby may be more solid than good as a run blocker, but his experience at tackle and his traits in pass protection could help him stand out for a pass-heavy offense looking to shore up a leaky interior. Demby has the traits and talent to become an eventual starter.
