    The #Rams flinched against the #Vikings, but as they’ve shown so many times this year they come back fighting

    Respect Chris Simms, but he does know that there’s helmet communication with the defensive coordinator/defensive players too, right?

    And they get the same exact time line as the offense. And they’re talking right up to the 15-second cutoff too.

    They aren’t exchanging Christmas gift ideas. They’re setting their defense

    As long as they aren’t communicating after the cutoff it’s within the rules.

    Been beating this drum for awhile now, but can’t discount the outstanding job Les Snead did this off-season. The draft class is coming up huge – yesterday an example with Josh Reynolds, Cooper Kupp and Sampson Ebukam all stepping up big time

    A lot of people worried the #Rams gave up two drafts to get Jared Goff, which was crazy talk. But it helped tremendously that Snead/staff plucked so much value in the later rounds to offset the picks they did give up for Goff

    Les Snead should absolutely be in discussion for #NFL Executive of the Year. Coincidentally, I ran into former #Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak at the game yesterday – he knows a few things about turning programs around – and he marveled at the improvement from last year

    #Rams had a good, healthy local TV # yesterday. More importantly, it’s going to take time to reel in fans beyond the base that stuck with them. It doesn’t happen overnight. Many local fans grew up without a local team and formed bonds with other teams..

    Ogletree said it’s “satisfying” to have an offense that can score points. Says defense still working to be great, a group that can be relied upon to win games.

    McVay anticipates Nickell Robey-Coleman will practice this week. Says he’s “90-95 percent.”

    McVay adds that he may use Gurley differently once Brown or Dunbar return from injury. @CVRamsClub

    Asked about the fourth-quarter play calling, McVay says the Rams had to keep their “foot on the gas” all game to beat the Saints @CVRamsClub

    McVay mentions that Barwin has also had a big role in mentoring Ebukam as the season has evolved.

    How did the Rams WR playing time break down without Robert Woods? Sammy Watkins was on field for 69 of Rams 77 offensive plays. Josh Reynolds played a whopping 61 (79%) snaps, the same number as Cooper Kupp. Followed by Austin (27), Cooper (11) and Thomas (7). @CVRamsClub

    The majority of the Rams starting defense played all or all but one of the 57 defensive snaps against New Orleans. @CVRamsClub

    Alden Gonzalez‏@Alden_Gonzalez
    In 11 games, Rams RB Todd Gurley has compiled 500 yards after first contact, trailing only Le’Veon Bell and Kareem Hunt. He had 561 yards after first contact in 16 games last year.

    Perhaps the most encouraging stat of all for the Rams: Todd Gurley has compiled 515 yards before first contact on rushing attempts, second-most in the NFL. Last year: 442, ranked 20th. Better offensive line, better scheme, better receivers, better Jared Goff.

    As you might have noticed, the screen game has been huge for the Rams. They’re averaging 9.55 yards per play on screens, second only to Sean McVay’s former team in Washington (9.95). Rams are also sixth in yards per play on play action (9.11).

    Nitpicking a bit here, but Rams could improve in short-yardage situations. They’ve converted only half of third downs when they need 1 yard to reach the first-down marker. 28 teams have done better.

    Rams WR Pharoh Cooper seems to get better in the return game each week. He’s now first in yards per kickoff return (29.71) and third in yards per punt return (12.06).

    Noticed this while looking up numbers for this story: Gurley ranks second in snaps by a RB with 557. No. 1 is Le’Veon Bell — with 100 more. You have to pull back a little with Bell, right? I mean, wow.

    Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan, asked about Jared Goff: “What has he improved on? Everything. He’s a totally different quarterback from last year.”

    One low-key impressive thing about Sean McVay: when Rams lose, he publicly heaps criticism on himself. When they win, he deflects all praise to players and assistants. Never excuses, never bravado.

    Interesting to note that the last time the #LARams won 8 games in a regular season (2006), the offensive coordinator was…? Current QB coach Greg Olsen.

    Just for fun…

    Thanks to Cooper Kupp (0/1 on Sunday), Jared Goff no longer has the lowest passer rating on the @RamsNFL roster.

    2017 Rams QB Rating
    @JHekker 118.7
    @seanmannion4 116.7
    @JaredGoff16 98.6
    @CooperKupp 39.6

    Before Sunday’s win over the Saints, the last time the #LARams won a game in which they did not create a takeaway: Week 9, 2015.

    *(We all know they should’ve had 3 INT yesterday.)

    This is a very good sign, IMO:

    A sign of a great leader.

    Rams’ Gurley, Donald, Zuerlein, Hekker and Cooper (returner) all lead their positions in Pro Bowl NFC fam voting. Goff is third behind Wentz, Brees.

    Goff on McVay/headset: “Sometimes he talks all the way up to 15 seconds. Sometimes he talks for five seconds. Sometimes he talks for 10 seconds. It all varies. Just like every other quarterback in the league, it stops at 15 seconds and we run the play.”

    McVay pointed to the Goff-Reynolds TD on Sunday, when Goff improvised and pointed for Reynolds to change his route. “That was all him. That was a bad call by me.”

    Rams’ Wednesday injuries:
    OUT: Whitworth (rest), Sullivan (rest), Barron (rest), Webster (ankle), Reynolds (ankle), Woods (shoulder), Higbee (illness),
    LIMITED: Brown (knee), Robey-Coleman (thigh), Dunbar (knee)

    1. Predictably isn’t a negative. If every time you run jet sweep action a defender commits to defend it, the concept is working as intended

    2. It has to be looked at in grand scheme of things, not just the 4 (sometimes more) yards it gets or even the occasional negative result

    3. What the #Rams do off that action is every bit as important as what they get out of actually running it

    4. That said, in the very near future I can see No. 10 in that role – and making it even bigger one with his skill set. All in due time

    TA’s averaging 4.6 yards per carry. That’s fine for the amount of carries he’s getting.

    Goff says he could tell the moment wasn’t too big for Josh Reynolds on Sunday. Rookie WR made his first start and scored his first TD.

    Goff says McVay is “great on the headset,” says the amount of time head coach talks on device varies play by play. @CVRamsClub

    McVay says, to his experience, the use of the communication device is commonplace. “It is a part of the game.”

    Asked about the stories saying he is using the QB-coach communication system to call audibles at the line, McVay calls the reports a “discredit” to Jared Goff. “To say I’m in his ear all the time, that wouldn’t be the case.” @CVRamsClub

    McVay says Arizona is strong in all three phases. Says he’s been impressed with Gabbert’s athleticism. Calls Peterson and Fitzgerald first-ballot Hall of Famers.

    The Rams are second in average starting position. Their average field position has been the 31 1/2-yard line. Just a half yard behind first-place Baltimore.

    Alden Gonzalez@Alden_Gonzalez
    Cardinals coach Bruce Arians, on Jared Goff’s improvements since his rookie season: “The protection has helped him so much. Last year he hardly had a chance to stand in there and throw it. But the running game and then his pocket presence — he knows exactly where he’s going with the football, and he’s got a great arm, and if you let him sit still in that pocket, he’s going to kill you. I’ve seen him being able to sit still in the pocket and being more comfortable than he has been.”

    Adam Schefter‏@AdamSchefter
    Giants’ CB Janoris Jenkins is undergoing ankle surgery today, per source. Ankle has hindered him for two months.

    Ryan Kartje‏@Ryan_Kartje
    Sean McVay said the assumption that he calls all the coverages and audibles for Jared Goff at the line of scrimmage “discredits” his work.

    With Manning sitting out, looks like Philip Rivers will soon own the longest active starts streak. Rivers’ streak currently at 187 games.

    that’s what i see too. and i wouldn’t be surprised if he can do a better job at it. he doesn’t have tavon’s speed. but i don’t think speed is the only thing necessary. he’s a good runner with the ball in his hands. i don’t see why it couldn’t translate to the jet sweeps.
