IMO it all gets down to the Minn OL handled the Rams D, and the Rams OL didn’t handle the Vikes D
November 19, 2017 at 4:18 pm #77675AgamemnonParticipantNovember 19, 2017 at 4:31 pm #77677JackPMillerParticipantThis was a game that shows, we are not as good. We will win the division, maybe win a playoff game. We are no Super Bowl contender.
November 19, 2017 at 4:54 pm #77678nittany ramModeratorIn that environment the Rams couldn’t afford any mistakes. Fumble at the 1 yard line, dropped passes and then the injuries…too much to overcome.
November 19, 2017 at 5:00 pm #77680Eternal RamnationParticipantThe Vikes are tough at home and the D just looked off. That’s to be expected with 3 dbs out Hatfield needs time on the practice squad before Wade puts him on an island with Theilan . Small front 7 wore down. There was some home cooking but there was for the Rams at home too. Wade had a tough day. Kupp’s dropping fumbling is a problem. Woods left on a cart haven’t heard anything on that.
November 19, 2017 at 5:30 pm #77689PA RamParticipantThe Rams are certainly improved over last year. They may not yet be the elite team we hoped they were–but they are good. They can make the playoffs. On a good day they can beat anyone. This wasn’t a good day.
The problem now are the injuries.
They have been incredibly lucky so far. But today that changed.
How deep are they?
How can they adjust?
Now we find out. All teams have to find that out sooner or later.

November 19, 2017 at 6:39 pm #77697joemadParticipantKupp is not clutch… he’s borderline choker
Vikes tackled better that the Rams did
I thought McVay gave up on the run too early in the 4th
Fuck the Vikes I still think the Rams are better
November 19, 2017 at 7:18 pm #77700HerzogParticipantI blame Kupp
November 19, 2017 at 8:07 pm #77701joemadParticipantBTW did Keenum even hit the floor on the bullshit roughing the passer penalty?
November 19, 2017 at 9:36 pm #77707InvaderRamModeratorrams couldn’t force any turnovers.
playing on the road.
kupp can’t cough up the ball. also dropped one very catchable very crucial catch.
run defense broke down. maybe they were tired.
i think they’re close. but a ways to go.

Minnesota outplayed them overall across the board. Could have been closer if the Kupp fumble hadn’t happened but then again MIN shanked an easy FG too. But they played them 7-7 for 3 quarters.
Having to go to their 4th and 5th CBs hurt late but this team cannot complain about injuries. They’ve been probably the healthiest team in the entire league.
Keenum was one slippery guy Sunday. He escaped about 5 sacks and that one where Brockers and Barwin both failed to get him down and he completed the 20 yard pass downfield to Thielen was a sign this was the Vikings’ day.
I agree with Whitworth that a loss like this can be good for them. They needed a game where they were not coasting after 3 quarters.
Onward and upward.
November 20, 2017 at 9:05 am #77743znModeratorWell I’ve said 2 things about Goff this year and I still think both of them after Minnesota.
1. He IS a franchise qb. He has the arm-talent, he has the smarts, he has the work ethic, he has the toughness and poise.
2. He started out more behind than most as a rookie (variant of Air Raid offense in college) and still has a lot of developing to do, the kind that comes from experience and making responses to different situations more automatic.Point #2 means he’s going to be inconsistent until he matures more. There will be peaks and valleys on a general upward trajectory.
I thought the Vikes game got down to this. The Vikes OL outplayed the Rams front 7 and a shifty smart veteran qb took advantage of it. On the other side, the Vikes DL handled the Rams OL and they threw a younger, still developing qb off his game.
I think the Rams also found out some guys they’ve programmed in a lot may not be clutch enough for the future. Both Seattle and the Vikes made plays when they had to and those plays determined the game. Who on the Rams just MAKES PLAYS when they’re needed? On offense it’s NOT Kupp, though I have hope for him, and it’s not Higbee, who I have less hope for.
On defense, injuries have depleted the CBs (along with trading Gaines). But up to this point WP has been getting by without outside rushers and without a soild consistent NT.
Another factor in this game was a measure of some Vikings “told ya so.” Meaning this. Shurmur was not popular among some Rams fans but he was always better than the negative assessments said he was. Same with Keenum (Keenum though needs a running game which he didn’t have in 2016). Keenum is a #2 caliber qb but he’s the best one the Rams had in years.
In terms of the schedule I can’t think of the last time any team played division leaders in consecutive or near consecutive games. It’s murderers row.

November 20, 2017 at 9:17 am #77744snowmanParticipantIMO, the game turned on two plays: the missed strip sack by Quinn and the fumble by Kupp. Those two plays were both pretty early in the game and seems to inspire the Vikings and deflate the Rams.

(Thanks snow!) What was it like to be there? Was it a rough sit-through? Rams did hold on for 3 quarters.

Keenum was lucky…. very very lucky
Vikes still have Lions on Thanksgiving, Falcons and Panthers.
Let’s not crown them #2 in the NFC yet…
November 20, 2017 at 10:48 am #77754nittany ramModeratorAs the season wears on, I’m becoming less and less impressed with Tyrunn Walker. They ran into his gap on that 25 yard run. I don’t think he is a fit for NT. He gets moved out of the hole too easily.

The Seattle game should be a little easier, since both Richard Sherman and Kam Chancellor are out for the rest of the year. So the Legion of Boom will start to fade away. To me, how we do against New Orleans and Philly is how we should look at if we can compete with the big boys.

In Person Game Review and General Thoughts
First, AT&T Stadium is quite impressive in Downtown Minneapolis.
It is a beautiful structure outside with the glass and as you would expect has all the modern amenities on the inside. Being in Cowboys stadium for a few games, it is not as over the top, but in general, a pretty cool stadium.
As others have stated, they have a really good home-field advantage and is a 100% improvement from the Metrodome.
We had very good seats. I was eight rows up in the lower section on the RAMS side. Not sure what you could see on the TV….but the sun came through around 12:30 and was blinding until the early 3rd quarter.
The seats, at least in the lower section, were very comfortable and quite large. The purple seats, along with the purple jerseys made it quite a site. If I have to hear that damn horn again, I will go crazy. Not sure what the TV picked up, but it was LOUD. The crowd was really into it….and from the people I talked to, like us, they really thought this was an important measuring stick game.
I won’t go too much into analysis, but Cooper has to hang on to the ball. He is too good a player not to. Also, I got the feeling, and by judging the Rams body language, it seemed like they felt they were the better team until the early 4th quarter. Once Kupp dropped the 3rd down pass, which essentially would of put us in FG range and potentially cut the lead to 14-10…the Vikings scored again and it was ball game.
Also, not too use injuries as an excuse, but once we lost Robey-Coleman early and then Webster later, it was a matter of time until Hatfield was taken advantage of. Quite frankly, I am surprised it took so long. Speaking of Robey-Colman, when coming out for the second half he had a noticeable limp and was really struggling to walk.
Moving back to pre-game…we had a great view of the warm-ups.
-Hekker participated with the other QBs in throwing to the WRs…quite an impressive ball he has.
-Whitworth is one big man
-Kronke and Snead were on the field at midfield talking for about 15 minutes. A bigger guy, I presume a bodyguard, stood about 5 yards away holding Kronke’s bag or man purse!
– As with all pre-games these days, many of the players were dancing to all the pre-game music.
-Robert Woods was all smiles during pre-game, and you can generally see he is a leader and very likeable. Hopefully, his shoulder will be fine.
-Aaron Donald was out about one hour before the game in sweats and man is this guy cut. He was really working hard and I would like to see us tie him up long-term.
-When the Rams coaching staff came out, Sean McVay came out in a full sprint…Wade was bringing up the rear.
-Greg Zurlein was right in front of us the whole time. He stood alone, like most kickers I am sure, and constantly was kicking into the net on the sideline.
-After Robert Quinn missed Case he was walking up the sideline shaking his head over and over again.
-To me, Tavon almost seemed like an outsider. His lack of playing time is well documented. He was constantly chirping on the sideline to coached, and a few times he went in and then ran off late. It seems like he’s not all in. At this point, I don’t see how he stays on the roster next year.
-On the sideline, Goff seemed to project confidence and until mid way through the 4th Q every time before hitting the field, he was talking to the OL and other players. He generally had a good calm demeanor about him.
During half-time, they had a country singer, I never hear of, sing and the crowd was appreciative and very respectful. Also, in general, the Viking fans were respectful and did not do much trash talking..
Plenty of Rams jerseys…by far the most popular was the Gurley rush jerseys. I did see a dad with a Quinn jersey and a little girl (maybe 6) with a Barron jersey. For the record, I was sporting my Marshall Faulk jersey, with the hopes of a dominating performance like we had in January 2000.
That’s all

This is a much needed punch in the face … and I think it’s going to be a positive thing for us going forward. Of course, the coolest thing about this idea is that it’s going to be tested this weekend when we either bounce back or get another stiff whack and I’m wrong. We’ll see.
Either way we’re still atop the division because the Hawks are circling the drain even with hall of fame play by Mr. Wilson.
The Good
1) Starting CBs. I say that especially because when we lost them we lost the game.
2) The O line … I only say that because I’ve seen the Vikings do better against other teams.
3) Goff’s toughness. His accuracy was affected a bit, but he took a lot of shots and hung in … which is what I saw at Cal and why I wanted him coming out even though I thought Wentz to be the better thrower.
4) Woods’ injury … only because it’s short. Forces a new go to WR to step up.
The Bad
5) Kupp. C’mon man.
6) Hatfield on a pro bowler … why wasn’t Tru on him? I get that most think Diggs to be the superior athlete, but Thielen has almost 1000 yards in ten games. Bad planning.
7) Finishing sacks. My goodness gracious.
8) I seemed to not see our safeties all game, and I don’t know what that was about (anyone get a feel for where they were?)
9) The “don’t abandon the run” rule can be dropped when you can throw to the back and get him similar touches … also as the Steelers showed by passing 45-12 running Thursday … sometimes it’s just the better idea.
10) Is their Oline that good? They haven’t allowed a sack in 5 games, but dang.
11) The 8 yard TD by Murray … that hurt physically after not taking the penalty.
12) WRs and TEs both not getting decent separation. They schemed us and physically outmanned us.
13) Quinn looked old this game to me, more than he had in the others although I know others have said it. Barwin too. I have multiple 3-4 LBs I’m hunting in college.
14) Rudolph winning as often as he did. I think he beat everyone on our team.
15) Not finding an answer after halftime … that was a bummer.
16) No turnovers.
Nothing was Ugly … that was a relief. well played game beaten by a team that made basically zero mistakes.

I’m not Snow, but it was easily the loudest game that I’ve attended… jet fighter loud. So that was pretty cool. Everything else was pretty much not cool. I didn’t realize that Webster was out of the game again until I was watching Hatfield and Countess chase Thielen all the way to the endzone. However, I was pretty sure that the Rams weren’t coming back after the Vikings got their second TD. The Rams were getting killed in the trenches. Even when Webster was still in the game the lack of a pass rush seemed to make things easy for Keenum and Thielen.
Anyway I saw the band Kansas play on Saturday night and then I went to the Timberwolves/Pistons game on Sunday night. So the trip had some good moments too.
US Bank Stadium is quite a spectacular venue I must say.

Thank you CR, sorry the Rams couldn’t have given you a better game. I’ll talk to them about that.
