I was watching him talking to Colin Cowherd, and he talked that Goff does not have the instincts to play QB in the NFL. Saying we screwed up drafting this kid. In other words, Lombardi believes Goff probably will be a bust. I’m a little nervous, after hearing all that.

Yeah Lombardi has been making noise like that. I think he’s full of it. Don’t get nervous every time a talking head bends your ear.

There’s nothing wrong with Goff that can’t be attributed to being a rookie on a bad team. If/when the Rams are able to put talent around him you’ll be amazed at all of the instincts he suddenly possesses.

I don’t think Goff will be a bust. He might not be the QB we fans hope for, but he will be a good QB. I think mostly people under estimate the amount of learning Goff has to do.

    we hope.

i mean there’s a reason air raid qbs don’t adapt well to this league.

the rams can’t screw this up. he needs to be paired with the right head coach and maybe just as importantly the right qb coach.

if he fails, a large part of it will probably be because the rams failed him.

they have to get this right.

    I personally don’t believe that.

If he has it in him to make it he will. If he doesn’t it won’t matter who the coach is.

    i partially agree with you.

certainly if he doesn’t have it in him, it won’t matter who the coach is. yeah.

but even if he does have it in him, he will need the right people around him.

now of course he could be a superstar type talent where it really doesn’t matter, but i wouldn’t bank on that. those are rare. most of the time my belief is it isn’t just any one person. it’s having the right mix of people.

and that extends beyond just hiring the right coaches. he’s gonna need an offensive line. he’s gonna need receivers.

and of course hiring the right coach depends a lot on goff and donald and gurley being the right guys for that coach. it’s not just a one way street. if you don’t have the players it won’t matter who the coach is.

for example keeping rob boras will mean certain doom for anyone associating himself with the rams offense. it will be a black hole for nfl offense. sucking in and crushing anything that comes within its gravitational pull.

i exaggerate i know. but could a hire have been more screwed up than that one?

Let’s start by giving him a real offensive line. And maybe some consistent receivers. Then, we’ll see.

I agree with zn. The coach has an effect, good or bad, but it is the player that determines his own fate.
