    Report: Pete Carroll, Seahawks fined $300K; team docked two minicamp practices in 2015

    The Seattle Seahawks were fined more than $300,000 and docked two minicamp practices in 2015 for breaking NFL rules on offseason practices, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports.

    The league and players’ union collectively bargained rules to limit the number and length of offseason practices in the 2011 CBA, and the Seahawks were found to be guilty of too much contact from an OTA session back in June.

    The fines are split up between the team and the head coach. Carroll was fined more than $100,000 and the Seahawks were fined in excess of $200,000.

    According to the report, the practices were found to have excessive contact — basically, they were too physical for OTA sessions that are supposed to be, largely, of minimal contact. Typically, in cases where there is a grievance of this kind, the practices are reported by players to the union, which passes on the claim to the league.

    The NFL requested the practice videos from June and found that the Seahawks went above and beyond the contact allowed. The team lost its appeal on the case and will have to pay the fine and lose the practice sessions next offseason.

    The Seahawks were fined for a similar violation in 2012 by commissioner Roger Goodell and were forced to give up their final two OTA practices that year, along with an unknown monetary fine.

    Maybe this is why the Seahawks have looked so good in the preseason.
