Rams Could Have Interest In Ryan Fitzpatrick

    http://www.profootballrumors.com/rams-could-have-interest-in-ryan-fitzpatrick/

We learned earlier today that Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is expected to reach the free agent market Wednesday. Should that happen, the team that drafted him – the Rams – could be among his suitors if the price is reasonable, according to Ryan Fitzpatrick (Vertical) Vincent Bonsignore of the Los Angeles Daily News (Twitter link).

Fitzpatrick, 33, looks primed to join Denver’s Brock Osweiler as one of the top two quarterbacks available in free agency this year. The 11-year veteran is coming off the best season of his career, having thrown for nearly 4,000 yards to go along with 31 touchdowns against 15 interceptions. Fitzpatrick, who has started for six different teams since the Rams took him in the seventh round of the 2007 draft, made $3.25MM last season during a 10-6 campaign for the Jets and could be in line for as much as $10MM to $15MM per annum on his next deal.

During his two seasons with the St. Louis Rams, Fitzpatrick appeared in five games and threw four TDs against eight picks. He has improved significantly since then, though, and would be an on-paper upgrade over incumbent Los Angeles signal-callers Case Keenum and Nick Foles.

Same here. Rams have to do better.

I’m not excited about any of these guys and less excited about overpaying for one of them at the possible expense of other–better quality players at other positions. I’d actually rather just keep Keenum and see if Mannion comes along. I’d rather see them do that than reach and overpay for one of these guys.

Sometimes you just aren’t in a position to get THE guy at QB.

This looks like that kind of year.

i like it. i think he’d complement gurley well. i think he’d be an upgrade over keenum. and mannion maybe develops in a couple years.

then just concentrate on defense in the draft.

i like it. i’d totally be on board.

I’m on board too. The guy is smart. He also seems to be much better than what we have.

What’s not to like about him?

Enh. I dunno. I’ve never been sold on him,
but i suppose he’s an upgrade. I suppose.

He’s always kinda seemed just barely above
a mediocre journey-man to me. More than
a back-up, but less than a good starter.

But i aint watched him much.

Who does he have to throw to on the Rams? Does anyone see 4000 yards caught by this teams WRs?

Breer: Jets offer to Fitzpatrick “only a little better” than Chase Daniel deal

    http://www.theredzone.org/BlogDescription/tabid/61/EntryId/55289/Breer–Jets-offer-to-Fitzpatrick–only-a-little-better–than-Chase-Daniel-deal/Default.aspx

The contract money the New York Jets are offering veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is only “a little better” than what career backup QB Chase Daniel got from the Philadelphia Eagles according to Albert Breer of NFL Network.

Daniel received $21 million over three years with another $15 million available in incentives. Granted Daniel is much younger than Fitzpatrick but he is also much shorter, has started only two regular season games in his entire NFL career, and did not lead the Jets to the brink of the playoffs last season. According to Breer, Fitzpatrick “knows where (the Jets) stand,” and they “set a price and plan to stick to it.” – even though their current in-house alternative is the less-than-illustrious Geno Smith.

Breer claims there is no “acrimony” between Fitzpatrick and the Jets but no one can blame him for continuing to shop around for a better deal given his stellar 2015. The Jets, on the other hand, are reportedly joining the Broncos and Browns in exploring a trade with the 49ers for QB Colin Kaepernick.

from Jets doing right thing by not overpaying for Ryan Fitzpatrick

The Rams don’t have real interest in making a significant financial investment in Fitzpatrick either, according to sources.

There are no FA QBs available that are sure-fire upgrades over what the Rams already have. Might as well concentrate on those FAs at positions that do represent upgrades and look for a QB in the draft.
