REPORT: St. Louis Rams Will Sign WR Nick Toon
@3k_ on Sep 28, 2015, 12:59p 35
After working out for the Rams last week, it sounds like Nick Toon will be joining the active roster.
#Rams to sign WR Nick Toon, per source. Toon had workouts with #Rams and #Seahawks last week.

This comes on the heels of Toon’s workout, along with six other wideouts, last week.
The obvious suggested implication? WR Brian Quick is done. After the serious shoulder and rotator cuff injury he suffered last year, he nearly had his career cut short for him:
Quick hasn’t appeared on any injury reports and Rams Head Coach Jeff Fisher has been committed to his shoulder’s rehabilitation throughout the process. So it’s a bit strange that perhaps aside from the injury issue Quick has been among the inactives for each of the Rams’ three games. For the 33rd overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Rams just never were able to get him to reach his potential aside from the early four game stretch to kick off the 2014 season.
No word on a corresponding move to adjust the 53-man for Toon’s arrival as yet…

Well, does it necessarily mean Quick is finished? Perhaps it’s just a case of Fisher looking for immediate help for an offense averaging 8 pts a game over the last two weeks.
Quick may still figure into his plans when he’s finally back to full speed, if that happens.

Well, somebody is done. Presumably a WR.
Another shoe is sailing earthward now.

Yeah, or maybe Quick is going on IR.

I didn’t think players with more than a couple of years experience could be signed to a practice squad.

They changed the rules.
September 29, 2015 at 1:00 pm #31411AgamemnonParticipantBeen a lot of questions about #Rams and WR Nick Toon. Toon expected to sign to team's practice squad today. Former Saints 4th round pick.

September 29, 2015 at 6:35 pm #31425InvaderRamModeratorwhat’s going on with stedman? was really expecting him to make a bigger impact than he has.

— Jim Thomas (@jthom1) September 29, 2015
WR Nick Toon, as we mentioned yesterday, added to PS.

September 29, 2015 at 6:50 pm #31430AgamemnonParticipantRams release RB Pead, promote CB McGee
1 hour ago • By Jim ThomasThe Isaiah Pead era – or more accurately “error” – is over. The Rams released Pead, chosen in the second round of the 2012 draft out of Cincinnati, on Tuesday.
The former Big East offensive player of the year never could translate his college success into the NFL. His totals as a Ram included only 19 carries for 78 yards, and 14 receptions for 94 yards.
He missed the entire 2014 season after suffering a knee injury in a preaseason game against Green Bay and was suspended for the first game of 2013 for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
Pead showed some life with a strong showing in the Rams’ 2015 preseason finale against Kansas City, but for all intents sealed his fate with a costly fumble in the regular-season opener against Seattle.
The return to health of Todd Gurley and Tre Mason made Pead expendable at running back. In addition, Trey Watts is eligible to return to active duty following this week’s game against Arizona following a four-game NFL suspension.
The Rams replaced Pead on the active roster by promoting cornerback Brandon McGee from the practice squad. Wide receiver Nick Toon was added to the practice squad, taking McGee’s spot.
We’ll have more later.

95% sure it has been Benny since Week 1 when he was in the “feature” role
September 30, 2015 at 9:47 am #31449PA RamParticipantA moment of silence for another member of the 2012 Draft Class to bid adieu:
2nd round: Isaiah Pead RB
5th Round: Rokevious Watkins G
7th Round: Aaron Brown LB
7th Round: Daryl Richardson RB
Brian Quick? Stay tuned.
Still a good draft: Brockers, Jenkins, Johnson. Quick?

And Zuerelein.
My thing is, from looking around and doing some calculating, that you have a good draft if you have around 40% hits…a hit being, a starter or a significant role player.
In that draft the Rams hit on 5 of 10 picks, assuming Quick comes back and is at least a good rotation receiver (ie. role player).
So, yeah, 50% is good.

vLast 10 years? No. Cause last 10 years goes back to 2006 and includes Klopfenstein, Leonard, and Avery.
If nothing else IMO his work as a gunner on special teams makes him better than those 3.
Plus across the last 10 years the 2nd round picks include JL, Saffold, Kendricks, Quick, and Jenkins. Which isn’t too bad at all.
September 30, 2015 at 2:06 pm #31458DakParticipantI won’t lose sleep over it. They missed on the guy, and that happens all the time, even in the 1st round. You just have to hit on enough picks, and the Rams’ current set of backs are fine, especially compared to what they used to have.
My concern is more directed at Robinson, a No. 2 overall pick. It’s good they got Donald with the next pick, but man the Rams had their pick of WRs in a good WR draft, and I’ve always been concerned that Robbie was the wrong choice. I assume he’ll get better, but I wonder if he’ll ever be the monster OT they thought they were drafting.
