Redskins shuffle their offensive line, Brandon Scherff to guard

When offensive line coach Bill Callahan makes a decision, the smart head coaches tend to listen. After all, he has coached four top-nine rushing attacks in the last six years. One week into training camp, the Redskins have decided to move rookie first-rounder Brandon Scherff from right tackle to right guard.

With Scherff at right guard, the Redskins inserted second year lineman Morgan Moses at right tackle and Spencer Long was sent to the bench. Moses had an excellent offseason, and it looks like it might pay off. Scherff practiced at right tackle throughout the entirety of the Redskins’ spring practices and the first week of camp, but this move could end up sticking.

“Could be. Could very well be,” head coach Jay Gruden said to reporters when asked if Scherff and Moses could prove to be the long-term pair on the right side. “We’re just going to go out here and give these guys the reps and let the exhibition games take care of themselves, and we’ll make our decisions for [the season opener]. But that’s a definite possibility, with Morgan at right tackle and Brandon at right guard.”

The pair will be put to potentially their most difficult task right away. In the first preseason game, the Redskins take on the Texans. This means that Scherff and Moses will have to line up directly across from Mr. J.J. Watt.

Andrus Peat struggles with conditioning: Jeff Duncan’s observations

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va. – My quick observations from the New Orleans Saints’ Black and Gold scrimmage Friday morning at the Greenbrier Resort and Spa:

–The Saints are downplaying Andrus Peat’s poor conditioning publicly but privately it has to be a concern. Peat was so gassed during the post-practice conditioning sprints he was finishing his runs a full 5 seconds behind the rest of the team. To his credit, the massive rookie lineman never quit but it was painful to watch him trudge through the session. In 15 years of covering the NFL, I’ve never seen a player struggle as much as Peat did on Friday. All I could think about was, imagine if the Saints were conducting training camp in Metairie instead of West Virginia.

–The running game was a positive for the Saints offense. Mark Ingram and Khiry Robinson both ripped off nice runs and the blocking was exceptional at times. This is one area Payton will like when he watches the film.

–Rookie quarterback Garrett Grayson had his share of good and bad moments. He threw a beautiful long pass to R.J. Harris early in the scrimmage. The lowlight was a telegraphed interception to Vinnie Suneri late. I didn’t get an official snap count but Grayson saw the most extensive work by far of the four quarterbacks.

Injured OL Ereck Flowers, Weston Richburg working back into Giants practice
    By Dan Graziano
    ESPN.com

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — A little bit of good news on the offensive line injury front for the New York Giants on Saturday, as both left tackle Ereck Flowers and center Weston Richburg returned to practice on a limited basis. Both were on the field for individual drills, and Richburg ran with the first-team offensive line in more than one of the 11-on-11 team periods, though not all of them. Flowers had only one series of team drills.

    Flowers is just injured.

So no possible 1st round lineman the Rams could have conceivably taken is presently looking as good as Brown is.

I don’t know how good Cameron Erving is playing, but it gives the Gurley pick more credibility.

    Brown, according to Silver –

was probably with Havenstein in group of players.

You might be right, but it is probably a bit to soon to say something that strong. imo

Saints and Pats are practicing in West, by-god, Virginia. If i had known,
I might have driven to the Greenbrier Resort and tried to get a peek.

The Greenbrier is kinda famous in WV. At one time it was a secret site
that the President and Congress were to be hidden at, in the event
of a nuclear attack. Or Zombies.
The resort has a rather fancy bomb shelter. And a gift shop, probly.

Patriots plan to join Saints at Greenbrier for three days of practice

The Saints are coming back to West Virginia. And this year, they’ll have company.

Per multiple sources, the Patriots intend to join the Saints for three days of practices at the Greenbrier resort in West Virginia.

The practices will occur prior to the August 22 preseason game between the two teams in New Orleans. The Patriots will travel to West Virginia, the two teams will practice there, and then both teams will travel to Louisiana for the game.

The Saints held three weeks of training camp at the Greenbrier in 2014, providing them an environment with lower temperatures and humidity.

In West Virginia, the two teams will practice at a first-class facility that the Greenbrier built in a fairly short period of time. The Cardinals are considering spending the week practicing there between October games at Detroit and Pennsylvania.
