According to overthecap.com, Rams now have 227.707 M in total contracts. If AW retires, it takes it to 210.041.
They can probably find space, but they have to extend Stafford and sign Noteboom (if AW retires). And if the buzz we hear is right, they will be re-doing Donald too.
Don’t see how they get both Miller and OBJ. Or even just OBJ.
Notice that they gave him a big signing bonus then stretched it out with 2 void years. So they gave him a low cap number for 2022 (3.5 M) with a low salary (1.5 M), but also gave him 10 M in bonus money. He does not become a real cap hit until 2023. When he does get a real cap hit in 23, it’s very reasonable for a starting LOT (15.5 M).
Rams currently have the 5th-most players signed for 2022; 2nd-most $ committed to next season; 2nd-least amount of dead money; and only 5 teams have less 2022 cap space. pic.twitter.com/Hj3yNxoiR8
According to Over The Cap, the Rams have $15.8 million in cap room after their first wave of transactions. That number doesn’t include Robinson’s contract, however, so his deal will certainly eat into their cap room.
But simply by cutting Hekker ($2.1 million), trading Woods ($7.1 million) and extending Stafford ($9.5 million), the Rams came away with a total savings of $18.7 million. That’s a significant chunk of change for a team that’s so loaded with stars and big contracts. Andrew Whitworth’s retirement saved another $16 million and Leonard Floyd’s restructured contract cleared $12 million
If the Rams do go after Mathieu, they will need to get a Donald and maybe a Kupp extension done. Right now, they have around $7M. A reminder that they’ll need to sign their draft class. Rams were also VERY tight against it last year promoting players on/off PS.
