from The NFL’s 60 best free agents for the 2022 season
.…#3Von Miller, EDGE, Los Angeles Rams
Then, Miller hit his second Super Bowl, and as was the case in Super Bowl 50 when he was named the game’s Most Valuable Player, all hell broke loose around him, and because of him. Miller had two sacks, six total pressures, and two stops in the Rams’ win over the Bengals.
And as his 45 stops this season (his most since 2016) would indicate, Miller is also a terror for opposing backs when they try to hit the edge — no matter how effective the run game. Miller turned 33 on February 10, which may lead him to a shorter “prove it” deal, but he certainly had no trouble proving it in the 2021 season — especially when he got around Aaron Donald and all his friends.
…#18Darious Williams, CB, Los Angeles Rams
No, those stats don’t measure up, but interception luck doesn’t always last from season to season. What the tape shows is a player who can get it done against some of the NFL’s better receivers. His work against DeAndre Hopkins in Week 14 was of specific interest to this observer.
Interceptions (or lack thereof) aren't the perfect indication of defensive performance. Darious Williams didn't have any picks last season, but he showed a lot with positioning and deflections. pic.twitter.com/gEmkuuY8cg
— Doug Farrar ✍ (@NFL_DougFarrar) February 23, 2022
If you’re looking for a quality cornerback who can get sticky through the route, you could do a lot worse than Williams.
…
#24Odell Beckham Jr., WR, Los Angeles Rams
Sean McVay aligned Beckham as the inside receiver in a trips formation and worked him vertically on a wheel route, getting him isolated against Mike Hilton for the game’s first touchdown. While Beckham suffered an ACL injury in the Super Bowl, which might delay his availability for the start of the 2022 season, his time with the Rams showed his value to an NFL offense and that there are still more productive years ahead of him in the league.
…
#54Austin Corbett, G, Los Angeles Rams
In Sean McVay’s outside zone/wide zone scheme Corbett has thrived, and his later movement skills might make him an ideal fit for the Rams’ offense, or other offenses rooted in these concepts. Should he hit free agency, a team looking to rebuild their group up front working off the same philosophical tree, such as the Miami Dolphins or the New York Jets, might be an ideal landing spot.
March 3, 2022 at 12:43 am #137195znModeratorDon't expect a Matthew Stafford contract extension to be less than Patrick Mahomes' $45M per year unless he gives Tom Condon specific instructions to leave money on the table. March 4, 2022 at 7:56 pm #137235wvParticipantWhat does it mean that OBJ “did not have an ACL” ?
Does that mean he had a different kind of injury or that he already
had a ‘rebuilt’ ACL or what?
March 4, 2022 at 8:26 pm #137237znModeratorWhat does it mean that OBJ “did not have an ACL” ?
It is completely unclear what that means.
from https://ramblinfan.com/2022/02/23/la-rams-odell-beckham-jr-surgery-a-success/
OBJ suffered an ACL injury before halftime of Super Bowl LVI. Due to the timing of the injury, he may not be ready to play football until December 2022 at the earliest. The good news is that his surgery went well. And on top of that, he is the proud father of a newborn, Zydn.

March 7, 2022 at 3:01 pm #137332znModeratorThe Athletic NFL@TheAthleticNFLThe Rams have made Matthew Stafford’s contract a priority. The QB’s deal could go as high as $45 million per year, one league source told @JourdanRodrigue..Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigueAs detailed thoroughly in the story, most people I talked to in Indy would be surprised if it were under $40M, yet the Rams will likely push for closer to $35M and Stafford’s own input (and appreciation for the way the roster is built) may factor into a lower number..Both McVay and Snead expressed how high a priority Stafford (and Donald) contracts are; however, I don’t feel a sense of overwhelming urgency from the team to rush through the process. There are some benefits to being “first” in the market when making new deals, including that others could then use the initial number as a baseline and the deal looks more team-friendly as time passes and others get done, but the Rams are less worried about that than getting it right as it specifically pertains to their own build..One well-placed source brought up Stafford’s own personality as an underrated, and large, factor in the negotiation process. Stafford won’t argue his own deal, obviously, but he does get the final say. Stafford has demonstrated a clear and public interest in how the Rams’ team-build works and functions as an interdependent ecosystem, and so he’ll be well-aware of what any financial savings on his contract could provide to other teammates as the Rams try to “run it back”. There’s also not a sense from the team that he’s personally about making financial demands, and while $45 million is a really popular number among quarterbacks/negotiators right now, his representation also has experience with structuring deals that help the team build (they previously did so for Drew Brees and the Saints)..The Rams will soon have official word from left tackle Andrew Whitworth about whether he’ll retire, and if he does, extending tackle Joe Noteboom may become their next priority after Stafford and Donald. They also want to extend outside linebacker Von Miller, for whom they traded in November, and receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who they signed just 10 days after acquiring Miller. Both players were crucial contributors down the backstretch of the season.Beckham’s situation is a little more complicated than Miller’s, however, because he tore his ACL in the Super Bowl. When the Rams initially signed him, two sources said that the team was interested in pursuing a longer-term relationship with him. That sentiment hasn’t changed on the Rams’ side, despite the injury.
Snead’s expectation is that Beckham won’t likely play a full 2022 season due to his rehab and recovery timeline, so the potential length and financial structure of any future contract would probably reflect that status (it could feature multiple years with a low cap hit in 2022, with active game incentives, for example). The Rams will get veteran receiver Robert Woods back into their position room by training camp (Woods tore his ACL in November, just a day after the Rams agreed to terms with Beckham). Importantly, the Rams did have a plan for Woods, Beckham, Triple Crown receiver Cooper Kupp and second-year receiver Van Jefferson to all play a role in the offense prior to Beckham’s injury. It’s an interesting “glass half-full” approach to see the midseason addition of a post-rehab Beckham as similar to what it was for the Rams in 2021 — although obviously under different circumstances.
March 7, 2022 at 5:37 pm #137335znModeratorMy guess would be the Rams would have to pay some major money/make a huge contract offer to block Von Miller going back to the Broncos. March 8, 2022 at 2:13 pm #137355wvParticipantI’d be shocked if they found a way to keep Von Miller. How in the heck could one team keep both Aaron Donald and Von Miller.
I have No idea what kind of contract ‘any’ team could give OBJ at this point.
I mean, how do you bet on a WR with this kind of injury history?
I guess, you could figure out some kind of incentive-based contract
but I dunno if OBJ would go for it.
Stafford sign for ‘under’ 40 million a year? Again, I’d be surprised. Mahommes is, what 45? Josh Allen i think is 43. Aaron Rogers wants 50 or so. Why would Stafford be ok with 35?

March 8, 2022 at 3:14 pm #137359ZooeyModerator{twocents} OBJ is going to get incentives. No way is he getting big money with a twice-ripped up knee, and most of the season on IR. And now there is concern his knee could take him down Todd Gurley Avenue.
Sucks for him.
Stafford won’t sign for less than 40. Rodgers just got 50. And Stafford has the same number of SB rings. They’re going to have to pay him.
I can’t imagine that no team will outbid the Rams for Miller. Somebody is going to buy him for more than the Rams can pay.

Miller is strongly hinting that he wants to go back to Denver. Wilson signing there doesn’t hurt either.
If he does return to Denver it will be interesting to see what his contract looks like. I mean, Denver traded him mid-season so they obviously thought keeping an aging, injured, edge rusher around wasn’t a priority.

It doesn’t matter if he does.
I have it on good authority that it doesn’t matter.
AD could make younger/cheaper edge rushers look just as good.

Wow, that guy is the complete package – handsome and brilliant. Surprised someone like that would have time for your ilk. You should count yourself lucky.
And I think he was talking about the possibility of acquiring Dante Fowler again though. In which case I wholeheartedly agree with him – even without Von Miller I think we already have better options on the roster.
So the latest in the Von Miller saga is that on IG he said that he wants to try and work it out with the Rams first.
But then he posted a picture of himself with Russell Wilson.
I think this is Von Miller’s world and we’re all just his playthings.

#Rams and superstar DT Aaron Donald have made “good progress” on a new multi-year contract extension, per source. Despite the retirement concerns, the 30-year-old Donald wants to reclaim his spot as the highest paid defensive player in the league.

I am persuaded that the Rams ‘culture’ may very well be ‘the best in the league’
etc, and so forth — but Von aint stayin.
No way, a team can afford two first-ballot Hall of Famers on one D-Line.
