    Doug Farrar, from https://touchdownwire.usatoday.com/lists/nfl-power-rankings-injuries-ravens-seahawks-chiefs/

    5. Los Angeles Rams (last week: 8)

The Rams’ offensive turnaround through the first two weeks of the season is pretty remarkable, given the extent to which the rest of the league appeared to figure Sean McVay out and turn Jared Goff into a pumpkin as a result. Last season, even Goff’s beloved play-action passes weren’t paying dividends, as he threw four touchdowns and five picks out of play-action after posting 16 touchdowns to two picks with play-action the year before.

This season, McVay has been more multiple and creative with pre-snap motion, which has helped Goff clear the muddy defensive pictures, and as a result, he absolutely killed the Eagles with play-action in a 37-19 win.

    4. Buffalo Bills (2-0)
Last week: Win at Miami 31-28
This week: vs. Los Angeles Rams

Raise your hand if you expected Josh Allen to be leading the NFL in passing through Week 2. On one hand, I’m tempted to say: please show me how they perform against teams that aren’t the Jets or a banged-up Dolphins. On the other, this is exactly what you try and do with developing QBs—you create a runway and build confidence.

    10. Los Angeles Rams (2-0)
Last week: Win at Philadelphia 37-19
    Next week: at Buffalo

Sean McVay’s offense is evolving to again puzzle the defenses that rose up to stop him in 2019. If Jared Goff gets comfortable enough to go vertical consistently, the NFC West will solidify itself as the toughest division in football.

The Rams’ offensive revival has been due to many factors, including the use of faster tempo, spreading the ball around, less predictability in personnel groupings and also committing to making late 2019 breakout Tyler Higbee a focal point of the offense. There’s a reason McVay is so highly respected.”

The Rams’ offensive turnaround through the first two weeks of the season is pretty remarkable, given the extent to which the rest of the league appeared to figure Sean McVay out and turn Jared Goff into a pumpkin as a result.

Another way to put that is this: “The Rams’ offensive production is back to normal now that they have a healthy OL.”

    I know, I know…to-MAY-to, to-MAH-to.

I kind of like Cowherd as far as talking heads goes. He has been one of the few national people who seems to actually know what he is actually talking about rather than just spending his energy getting Edgy with conventional wisdom. That thing that just happened in this thread is an example of how the media gets the Rams wrong all the time. Really, last year, everybody just thought Goff isn’t that good, and teams figured McVay out. That was just what everybody said. Cowherd seems better informed, at least about the Rams. I don’t know about other teams. Maybe he’s a Rams fan and actually watches their games, I dunno.

i’d also guess that he’s got a pretty good research team.

from Week 2 of The Athletic’s NFL power rankings: https://theathletic.com/2081885/2020/09/23/nfl-week-2-power-rankings-saints-offense-ravens-chiefs/?source=dailyemail

    9. Los Angeles Rams

What we learned: Sean McVay might have his fastball back. The Rams’ offensive efficiency — they ranked 16th last season — played a big role in the team’s disappointing 9-7 record last season. But Sunday brought back memories of the 2018 Rams offense. When McVay’s scheme is working, it’s run game, play-action, pre-snap motion and bootlegs that have defenders often looking in the wrong spots. That’s exactly what we saw against the Eagles. Jared Goff completed his first 13 passes, finishing 20-for-27 for 267 yards and three touchdowns. The Rams strung together five touchdown drives and punted just twice. In the third quarter, with the game close, the usually conservative McVay went for it on fourth-and-1 from the Rams’ 29, and the offense converted. It was a clear sign from McVay that he felt like their offense couldn’t be stopped. Through two weeks, just 6.9 percent of Goff’s attempts have been tight-window throws (defined as having a defender within 1 yard of the receiver). That’s the lowest percentage for any starter. The play-caller’s job is to set up the quarterback for success. McVay is doing that at a high level right now.
