    what a year it’s been.

and now the rams season starts. wonder if it even finishes.

i will say i’m pretty excited. in no particular order i’m excited to see akers, lewis, higbee, jj, ramsey, burgess, fuller, rapp, goff, and donald. also rozeboom and williams.

hopefully the rams run it down the cowboys’ throat.

America’s team travels to Inglewood a week from now favored in Vegas by 2.5 points. The media touts a strong offensive line, heralded triplets in Dak, Zeke, and Amari, a beat down of the Rams in the stretch run of 2019, inside info from Bones Fassel, and what they believe will be a dominant front seven. Under the guidance of a new SB winning HC, McCarthy, the team is hyped to challenge for a Super Bowl this year. My own wife is a life long Pokes fan so I know the team and speak kindly to her about them as she didn’t rub it in my face last year when I couldn’t drink myself into a stupor fast enough to make that horror show of a game not leave a permanent impression.

But there are a myriad of downplayed problems in Dallas. The retired Travis Frederick is replaced by Joe Looney at center and La’el Collins will begin the season on IR. Even Tyrone Smith hasn’t enjoyed a particularly healthy training camp. Zach Martin is the only player on that line who can (I didn’t say will) man up AD. Amari Cooper’s ankle is expected to be healthy enough for the opener and Cee Dee Lamb will bust his cherry in the slot. Does anyone else but me wonder how an entire offense in the COVID era can be completely revamped with excellent timing without live pre season reps?

Their defense was expected to be reloaded by returning players and FA signings, but the fan base is being led to ignore the obvious in Trump-like fashion. Clinton-Dix was supposed to be their new starting safety…until he was released. Randy Gregory was reinstated but will have to spend the first few games on the pine. Sean Lee is unsurprisingly injured again. Donatari Poe has been moved to second string. Slot corner Jourdan Lewis hasn’t practiced since he injured his left ankle, They will start rookie Trevon Diggs at one corner and the frequently toasted Awuzie (he of the recently tweaked right leg) at the other. The 32 year old Everson Griffin will be rotated with Aldon Smith (5 years ago he was a problem in more ways than two) to replace Robert Quinn so that may be a wash. In short, D Lawrence, Vander Esch, Jaylon Smith, and Griffen better hold the fort because the other seven are no better than average NFL starters in my book. Oh, and they are all learning a new defense.

Understand please that I’m not predicting a Ram win here. The OLine and LB’s are question marks. I just wanted my fellow Ram fans to see the details left out by the media’s fake news hype

The pressure is all on Brandon Staley. The Cowboys have absolutely no reason to change their gameplan from last year. Will be interesting to see how Kiser handles his role, and who ends up starting next to him.

After the beat-down last year, its understandable the Rams would be dogs.

Looks like its about the second-most interesting game on the NFL schedule in week one. I would think Brady vs the Saints will be the most-watched game.

I went ahead and let GamePass sign me up for another year. I was leaning against it, but I went ahead and let the corporate-weasels automatically sign me up.
This has to be the strangest NFL year of all time. The Covid-Year. The year piped-in-fake-fan/noise was added to the telecast. Empty stadiums.

The super-bowl could be played in any empty stadium. Think about that.
Random players will be getting Covid, every week. Think about that.
Weird-Football in the midst of the civil-war-Election-of-the-century.
All the players will be kneeling this time. Cept Kaepernik is nowhere on the field.

    What a strange trip.

    Go Rams. I guess.

I can’t imagine the Cow pies not trying to run it though that line ain’t what it once was and is not at all healthy. I think the Rams D is going to be better than expected. If they can stop the run the Pies will struggle if they can’t the Rams will struggle.Sunday night opener in the brand new Stadium. I think the Rams win this one.

    There is nothing to discuss.

Nothing short of a Nittany would think that the outcome of this game can come out in any way other than a landslide in the Rams favor.

My profound, unique, and captivating thoughts:

Dallas line still has Smith and Martin but they have replacements at OC and ROT.

They have all those offensive weapons.

Their secondary is hurting but their DL is strong on paper at least.

Rams question marks as we all know are the LBs, the OL, and the RBs.

Like many I say that if the OL and RBs are at least solid then Goff will do quite well.

    So we’ll see! Finally.

McVay’s record against Dallas is 2-1, but that was when they had a different head coach.

The LA Rams kickoff their 2020 campaign at home against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football. This is an extremely important game for the Rams as they expect to compete with the Cowboys for a NFC playoff berth.

Unlike most seasons where we have OTAs, full training camps and preseason games, 2020 is marked with question marks and uncertainty across the board. Rookies don’t have as much time to acclimate and new coaches have an uphill battle implementing their schemes in an abbreviated preseason.

Speaking of which, the Cowboys onboard three coaches: Head Coach, Mike McCarthy, Defensive Coordinator, Mike Nolan and Special Teams coach, John Fassel. The Rams onboard Defensive Coordinator, Brandon Staley and Special Teams coach John Bonamego. Whichever coaching staff was more successful at implementing their systems might determine the outcome of this game.

Both teams are evenly matched and will focus on their strengths. For the Rams, that means lining Aaron Donald across from Connor Williams and Joe Looney. Both offensive linemen are good – not great and would be a focal point of attack for the All Pro defensive lineman. Speaking of offensive linemen, star right tackle, La’el Collins will miss the game due to injury meaning newly acquired tackle Cam Erving will get the start.

The Cowboys will run their offense through Zeke Elliott, who along with Tony Pollard amassed 263 rushing yards in last years matchup. The Rams have big question marks at linebacker so perhaps using a defensive back like Terrell Burgess might help slow down or at least stop the bleeding if Elliott and Pollard go off.

Offensively, the Rams will look to have more balance than they did in their last meeting. The running game faltered with only 22 rushing yards. Look for the three-headed monster of Cam Akers, Darrell Henderson and Malcom Brown to combine for 100 yards. This will be paramount in keeping the Cowboys defense on their toes.

While the ground game is critical, the Rams and Jared Goff should look to exploit the Cowboys suspect secondary. Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp, Josh Reynolds and Van Jefferson are the superior unit when matched up against cornerbacks, Travon Diggs, Anthony Brown and Chidobe Owuzie. Passing should be the easier route, but let’s hope McVay sticks with the running game so Goff and the WRs can get an even bigger advantage.

Last but not least, it will be our first glance at kickers Samuel Sloman and ex-Ram Greg Zeurlein. I wouldn’t be surprised if the game came down to a field goal.
