    Whitworth…whole interview is here: http://theramshuddle.com/topic/whitworth-8-19-transcript-aw-is-a-good-interview/edit/

(On OL Rob Havenstein and the importance of him having a good bounce back season)
“Well, I think for him, man, you’re just so happy for him. He’s worked his butt off this offseason. I mean, the guy’s worked so hard. Him and I trained together all offseason and at my house and so we’ve been together a lot. I’ve seen the worked he’s put in and you couldn’t be happier for a guy to put in the kind of work that he’s done. He was working here, he was working in my house, he’s doing extra all the time. It meant something to him to come back healthy and over the injury and you know what, I couldn’t be happier to see him having some success and seeing some good things going and feeling good about his knee. Just continuing to see him try to find those steps every day to get better and better.”

    Aaron Donald

(On how this defense is different in comparison to the last few years)
“It’s been good. I don’t want to say too much, or give too much away, but there’s things that you like. You know, there’s hiccups that we’ve just got to get better at, but that’s a part of camp and part of learning a new scheme and trying to adjust to certain things. So, there’s things that I love about the defense, there’s things that, you know, I’m not too big of a fan of, but I’ve just got to adjust to it and try to play up to the best of my abilities so I can still put my little twist in there. So I can still help this defense be successful. So far so good, but like I always say, I think we’ve got a whole bunch of room for improvement. We’ve just got to keep learning, keep getting coached up, and keep getting better.”

The Rams are selling fan cutouts to place in end zones for the opener vs. the Cowboys at SoFi Stadium. Proceeds will go to the Rams Foundation & will be used toward social justice issues, the Rams announced.

    Prices start at $70.

No official word if fans will be able to attend.

Clarification: Proceeds will go toward social INjustice issues, including poverty, education inequities, food insecurity and homelessness.

Really the most impressive part of this, and maybe a little surprising, is the success NFL has had so far even though they’re not in a bubble.

I’d guess 50% or more living at home vs. team hotel.

Can it continue once training camp grind is over & all living on their own?

McVay on Henderson (from https://theramswire.usatoday.com/2020/08/21/nfl-rams-darrell-henderson-camp-sean-mcvay/ )

“He’s done a nice job. Darrell’s a guy that I think last year, had some unfortunate injuries that led to not maybe getting as much work as we thought he was going to get. But, he did flash some things that got us so excited about taking him out of Memphis,” McVay said this week. “I think he’s taking a real big step in the right direction. He’s showing big picture understanding of everything in all phases – pass game, run game, protection. I continue to go back to just (running backs coach) Thomas Brown’s influence on that room as a whole. It’s definitely showing. When you guys get a chance to meet him, you’ll realize why I think he’s such a special coach.”

Dante Fowler praising the Rams, via @pnewberry1963: “They put me in the right situations to be an elite football player. … I really appreciate what they did for me. They allowed me to blossom & let this league see what kind of player I can be. I was around a lot of great guys.”

Rams rookie safety Jordan Fuller just showed some closing SPEED to breakup a deep pass. The rookie safeties, including Terrell Burgess, have looked strong so far.

    Stu Jackson@StuJRams
Couple of good sequences from Rams rookie safety Jordan Fuller. First scooping up a David Long forced fumble, then a pass breakup on a deep ball. He’s had a good week.

Little look at QBs 3 and 4 in individuals this afternoon. Perkins has a little mustard on the ball and a couple times WRs were not expecting the force. Another good day so far for Nsimba Webster and new name to watch is Trishton Jackson. Good length, great speed/hands

Rams scrimmage Saturday at SoFi Stadium.

    Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
Jared Goff completed a deep pass to…Jalen Ramsey. He has been pretty consistent so far in camp, but will want that one back.

    Lindsey Thiry@LindseyThiry
Rams practice today seemed to end a bit abruptly as the play clock wound down and Sean McVay called it. After practice, he was hollering in the huddle that players need to learn from this, the defense did well and the offense needs to be better.

    Greg Beacham@gregbeacham
Rams rookie S Jordan Fuller made the 2 biggest plays so far in this morning practice. Picked up a fumble, and also made a perfectly timed breakup of a nice long pass by John Wolford. His teammates loved it.

    Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
A few camp notes before tomorrow’s scrimmage:
Spent more time w QB3/4 today and both have some good spice to their throws. Saw Perkins redo one he missed a little high.
PR – Edwards, Deayon, Kupp, Woods, Webster
    another good day for Webster
DBs are absolutely showing up w Rapp (knee) still out.
Anchrum had a good day in drills.
Ramsey had a PBU and also picked Goff; worked inside Woods and had eyes on it the whole time
We didn’t get to see the kicking competition at the end of today’s practice, unfortunately.

Anchrum had a good day in drills.

i’ve just got this feeling about him.

i think he makes it. and maybe just maybe. not this year. but i could see him becoming the rams starting center in a year or two.

September 6 at 9:00 am PT, the Rams can sign up to 16 players to their practice squad, Four of those players can be protected from signing with another NFL team. I would think that since OL’ers take such a long period of time to developed compared to all other positions that the PS will have a good amount of OL’ers signed to it & 2 OL are sure to be of the 4 that will be protected from theft by other teams.

    from https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/national/story/2020-08-21/fit-and-ready-rams-whitworth-back-for-another-season-at-38

The secondary looked sharp during practice drills at the Rams’ training complex. Cornerbacks Jalen Ramsey and Darious Williams made highlight-reel plays, and rookie defensive backs Terrell Burgess and Jordan Fuller also came up big. … A few mistakes by the offense left McVay annoyed with his unit. “We had a lot of guys that panicked, frankly,” McVay said of the offense’s performance in a 2-minute drill. “That’s something that will not be tolerated.” … S Taylor Rapp is still watching from the sidelines with a knee injury.

This is all true and especially for short-term evaluation. However, over time, a great pass-rusher will have a lot of sacks. Also, not all pressures are equal or even charted well. DT pushing back the center does not make a great pass-rusher.

    from https://theramswire.usatoday.com/2020/08/22/rams-joe-noteboom-guard-comfortable-camp/

Noteboom is back at left guard in training camp, running with the first-team offense. He seems in line to keep his starting job, feeling much more comfortable at the position than he did last year.

“I definitely feel way better than I did last year. I felt good last year, but it was just kind of the inexperience at guard. That was my first time playing it. I definitely feel way more comfortable there right now,” he said Friday. “I kind of learned, like even when I wasn’t playing I was just watching it over and over again. So, I think it’s guard right now. I’m trying not to think about it if I’ll play anything in the future. Just kind of trying to focus on guard because that’s most likely what I’ll be playing. But definitely feel way more comfortable there than last year.”

.NOTEBOOM: Just kind of trying to focus on guard because that’s most likely what I’ll be playing.

It sounds to me like this summer, in these circumstances, Kromer dropped his “cross train everyone all the time” approach.

It actually looks like the goal is to set the starting OL early and have them play together as a unit as much as possible. Given the circumstances they have to work with this year, that’s probably smart.

So it seems that the cross-train em all all the time method has been mothballed. At least this summer.

(That’s not entirely true though cause Anchrum took some reps at tackle and in the NFL–he’s a guard. But I think the main thing is they are identifying their starting 5 as soon as they can and getting them to play together for as much as they can before the season hits.)
