Courts have been closed except for emergency-hearings, here in WV.
So I’m home alone, basically. Enjoying the serenity of solitude so far.
Been repotting Pansies. Cleaning. Reading.
2moro I might watch some favorite Game of Thrones episodes.
Waiting, quietly for the apocalypse.
How’s life for you people?

vMarch 17, 2020 at 6:43 pm #112494znModeratorI always have the capacity to work at home so in essence this is no different. Same amount of work.
Mon spouse is an RN so she goes to work.
So, just a quirk of fate, but, in this particular house, nothing is different.
March 17, 2020 at 7:13 pm #112498ZooeyModeratorI am spending all day at school every day, trying to make the best of this situation. Mostly I am struggling with a never-ending parade of technical difficulties, and learning to do new things with tech toys.
I have been too busy doing that to actually figure out how to change the format of various assignments, and because I teach multiple classes that are completely different, I have to do all that for each class, unlike a teacher who may have 3 sections of the same thing, so they convert their stuff once for the entire lot of kids.

March 17, 2020 at 8:48 pm #112502TSRFParticipantJust got back from Boston. My wife and I drove up to get my 20 year old son, who goes to Northeastern and is doing a Co-op that started in January. They will let him work remote and hopefully still pay him through the end of June.
My 24 year old is in DC. She is planning on hunkering down in Illinois where her boyfriend is from. They are planning on leaving on Friday. The way this shit is accelerating, I’m trying to convince her to get out of Dodge as soon as she can. She can also work remote.
I can work remote, and will.
I have to curb my hoarder tendencies whenever I go to the Supermarket. I almost bought two cartons of cigarettes, but my wife talked me out of it. I don’t smoke, but thought they may come in handy down the road (a pack of cigarettes for half a deer, maybe?).
Anyway, same, same here in Sandy Hook…
March 17, 2020 at 10:58 pm #112504nittany ramModeratorI work in a hospital so I go to work as usual. I’m QA Supervisor and Microbiology Lead for the clinical lab. As you can imagine we’ve been especially busy with COVID-19 stuff (my hospital provides drive-up specimen collection for people suspected of having it).

I thought there was a big shortage of tests. I was wondering how Idris Elba got tested when he claims he has no symptoms.

vNot cancelled. We are doing Remote Learning. Everything is internet-based. That isn’t possible everywhere, obviously. I’m sure in WV, a lot of people don’t even have phone lines, let alone DSL like you do.

There is. There is a shortage of tests and the viral media the specimens go in so they can be transported to the testing facilities. A good part of my day is trying to acquire supplies. People are only supposed to be tested if they have a referral from their doctor, which would imply the doctor has reason to suspect their patient might have the virus. It’s probably not a surprise to anyone on this board that there is a different set of rules for the rich.
March 18, 2020 at 11:10 am #112519canadaramParticipantStaying indoors. Currently reading Gladwell’s ‘Talking to Strangers.’
Been going for multiple short walks around the neighbourhood while it’s still allowed. Usually, with this kind of downtime I would be going for lots of bike rides, but I’m trying to minimize any activities that increase the probability of me having to visit a hospital.
Been listening to my daughters teach themselves various new songs on the piano. So that’s been nice.
March 18, 2020 at 11:44 am #112521Billy_TParticipantI’ve been staying in for days, but will likely venture out to do hunter-gatherer stuff for groceries.
Hoping local stores are open. I think they’re gonna try to transition to online, personal shopper mode. Put in your order, drive over to pick it up, etc.
We’ll see.
Reading a lot, but also wasting too much time arguing with others online. Gotta stop that. I am doing my best, though, to suggest good books.
I’m reading one now in e-book form that’s in the world-ecology school:
The History of the World in Seven Cheap Things, by Raj Patel and Jason Moore}
https://www.ucpress.edu/book/9780520299931/a-history-of-the-world-in-seven-cheap-thingsAlso being a couch potato, watching some guilty pleasures like The Voice and Idol. I know they’re over-produced, and I hate that they try so hard to make everyone cry for the camera, but I enjoy the music.
And, as mentioned below, The Expanse is really excellent.
Overall, trying not to dwell on the fact that I’m in the prime risk group. I picked a bad time to stop drinking!!
