Troy Hill switched to No. 20 after giving up No. 32 for Eric Weddle (via Rams site)

Keeping defense-based teams together in the salary cap era is hard because you have to pay 5 or 6 guys, on top of the fact they get hurt.

The #Seahawks are signing former #Lions franchise tagged pass-rusher Ziggy Ansah to a 1-year deal, source said. A key, late addition in free agency.

New Seahawks’ DE Ziggy Ansah still is recovering from shoulder surgery that is expected to keep him out of training camp or longer; some league sources believe Ansah could miss the first month of this season, at least.

    Seahawks were desperate.

Seahawks released veteran S Kam Chancellor and WR Doug Baldwin with failed physical designations. End of an era in Seattle.

Big time. Nickell Robey-Coleman kept his promise to his mom, who passed away before he left for college, and just earned his degree from USC.

Dolphins are signing CB Xavien Howard to a record five-year, $76.5 million extension that includes $46M guaranteed, making him the highest paid CB in the NFL, sources tell ESPN. It’s the largest extension for a CB. Since becoming a 2nd-round pick, Howard has gone to one Pro Bowl.

Interesting market to monitor if you’re Rams CB Marcus Peters, who is going into the final season of his rookie contract. Peters has 22 career interceptions, is a two-time Pro Bowl selection, one-time All-Pro and 2015 Defensive ROY.

I guess this means we won’t see Cappy around here for a week or so, as he will be taking time to drink away his sorrow at the End of an Era in Seattle.

If the old rookie compensation system had remained intact & the growth rate of top picks had continued, Kyler Murray probably would have been looking at a 6 year contract with a base value in excess of $140M with more than $90M fully guaranteed (max contract value around $160M).

Teams would be really reluctant to trade into the top 5 or top 10 because of the contracts associated with those picks.

I think the O-line is a valid concern, right now, but it has a chance to actually be better if the conviction they have in replacements like Noteboom and Allen are correct. Todd is a concern that we will have to wait and see on. But I wouldn’t freak out just yet. At all. They were a play or two away from winning the SB last year with one of their best players – Cooper Kupp – on the sideline.

…we’ll have to see where Gurley is physically and how quickly Henderson picks things up before carries/playing time etc…etc..really gets sorted out

Michael Brockers, as of right now in their base defense, will remain outside. Greg Gaines is expected to be the starting NT in their base defense. They really like what Henderson brings to the table, and how Sean McVay can cook up ways to deploy him. The goal was to become a little bit more diviersified while also providing coverage for Todd and his knee. It’s going to be fascinating to see how they end up using him, though.

Rookie Mini Camp. Rams draft picks come in. This was just a tryout camp for UDFAs and tryout players. On Tuesday the draft picks join the UDFAs and anyone signed from the tryouts. I asked Rich Hammond on Twitter and he said the media had no access until Tuesday.

3 takeaways after studying player grades vs where they were picked:

    1) Bunch of LB’s were drafted above their talent level due to lack of depth this yr.

    2) Teams were patient drafting WR’s. The pool is deep, you can afford to wait.

    3) Speed & man skills drive safety value.

Speaking of smart coaches… Sean McVay, to me, earlier today: ‘There will be no game 7.’ But, no KD. ‘Yeah, but they have Steph and Klay and Draymond and Steve Kerr, and I know they will find a way.’
