The Great
1) Our DB coaches getting Ramsey up to speed to at least participate in only 4 days. Standing ovation here.
2) Donte Fowler presenting us with what is a great problem to have. If he keeps it up we’re going to have a serious decision to make. I think he commands too much for us to shell out and we take a 3rd round comp pick, personally.
3) Littleton’s INT. Thing of beauty.
4) Holding Matt Ryan to 170 yards passing with a new trade acquisition and 4 non starters (including Christian).
The Good
5) Obo getting snaps and getting to see his corner agility.
6) Getting closer and closer to hitting Everett on deep balls. He’ll have a matchup or 5 every game where he can get deep … definitely need to get the timing down there. I actually think he is the missing piece of our offense that will change the way we play.
7) Troy Hill solid.
8) David Edwards with a solid game in his first start.
9) Coming back off that hard loss last week.
10) Ramsey’s FF.
The Bad
11) What was that running the clock out garbage with 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter?
12) Mediocre run designs … maybe getting vanilla after the game was in hand?
13) What’s the deal with the refs missing 2 TDs? Like, you call it a TD and then reverse it if it’s not … you don’t make a coach waste a challenge.
Not actually that much to talk about in this game … regular handling of a struggling opponent.

The Rams defense’s five sacks today marked a season-high and matched their combined total across Weeks 4-6.Work of Rams CBs Jalen Ramsey, Troy Hill, Darious Williams, Nickell Robey-Coleman, etc. against one of NFL’s top passing offenses was a key part of that.

But the Rams feel comfortable they can retain their priority players. They also believe in their draft/UDFA process but also their ability to add in older, still productive players on inexpensive deals who want to finish up in a winning environment and, in a lot of cases, closer to home.
[Goff] No doubt they are trying to do as much as possible to get him better, longer looks downfield. So there is flexibility in what they are doing, including getting him on the move a little bit. I know they still want to get him rolling a little more by any means necessary. He does appear annoyed, especially around us. He seems great in the locker room.
Henderson gives them the home run threat they have been lacking this year. I can’t imagine his role diminishing. To me it should be expanding
[Run game v. Falcons] To me there were some issues inside, especially on the right side where Austin Blythe didn’t have a good day. I also think in Todd’s case, there was some hesitation. I thought he missed some holes as a result. I do like that they stuck with the run. They need to remain committed, even if the yardage is hard to come by. I feel like Henderson is close to breaking a long one
Brian [Allen] is actually getting praised for his communication at the line of scrimmage. That said, given his inexperience, it’s not always going to be perfect. I’m sure there have been mistakes made and the wrong coverage calls. The key is learning from those mistakes and minimizing them
I think improving the defense and being proactive on addressing CB – Talib and Peterson were both likely to leave as FA’s – with a premier player and an ideal fit for their scheme was just too good a chance to pass up
The defensive dynamic has absolutely changed.
[Hill] is very undervalued, in my estimation, by fans. The Rams have always expressed confidence in him as a starter, but I think their bigger picture would be Troy as a reserve (playing a lot) and one of the younger guys – Long or Williams – taking that starters role
[David Long] They like the potential. They like where he is and how he’s developing.
Higbee is very valued by the team for his blocking in both the run and pass game. I think it’s getting overlooked a bit because the run game hasn’t been as strong – thought not his fault. Everett is really coming into his own, which is good to see. Room for both of them

Can this defense be elite?
Wouldn’t say they’re there yet. But despite some injuries, they’ve got a chance.

i’m not quite sure i buy that. rams routinely use three safeties.
They had Weddle, Rapp, and Christian though. Rapp had 54 snaps, Weddle 46, and Christian 44. Each of them were on the field more than any linebacker though Fowler was close with 43. So they kept it to 3 safeties a lot of the time.
I agree about the Rams offense…they played a piss poor bad Falcons front 7. The Falcons are 28th in passing yards allowed, 30th in yards per pass allowed, 32nd in sacks, and a miserably woeful 32nd in sack percentage (at 2.1%). So they’re 8th in passing attempts against. Cause. Why wouldn’t you pass against them.
I am only saying that the Rams defense didn’t just beat up a bad offense. Before Sunday that offense was considered a good one.

That whole plabook stuff has to do with subpackages and the defensive backfield, which has a complicated series of disguised zones they use. Ramsey was just saying they cut that stuff back for his sake and gave him a simpler role. That does not mean the entire D played in a lesser mode.
In terms of beating the Atlanta OL, I think that’s just the front 7 lining up and playing ball. I don’t think that would have much to do with the reduced playbook for the secondary (cutting back on all the head games and disguises they use.) Also they blitzed more than they have since Phillips got there. They could blitz because they left Ramsey out there on his own and so had the room to be more aggressive.
In terms of injuries…the Rams secondary is so deep they could work around missing Johnson.
So I wouldn’t say the Rams D was hampered for various reasons and just played an inferior offense. That offense was 2nd in the league in passing. That’s the first game this year where the Falcons were beat that soundly on offense.

Falcons offensive line
This Atlanta Falcons offensive line has been about average throughout most of the year. But it was even worse against the Rams. They allowed five sacks during the game and only opened enough holes for the offense to gain 39 yards on 14 carries. Matt Ryan got hurt because of how bad they played. Atlanta needs to get their offensive line together.They have Mack at center and Matthews at LOT so I just assumed they shouldn’t be THAT bad. But…I guess they’ve been struggling and the Rams then came in and ate em up.

This is indeed factual. And that’s no disrespect to the conference’s last remaining undefeated team, the 6-0 San Francisco 49ers. I appreciate these Niners and love that the great Kyle Shanahan gave his dad, Mike, the game ball after he went into Washington and beat the Redskins 9-0 in a weather-waylaid contest. Yes, the Niners have played the easiest strength of schedule in the NFL entering Monday night’s contest, but you can only play the games on your slate, all of which San Fran has won. And how about Sean Payton’s Saints, who have now prevailed in five straight games without the injured Drew Brees? Simply remarkable.
But it’s Aaron Rodgers’ world, and we are all just living in it.
Rodgers has been playing well all season, despite how his fantasy owners felt about the 35-year-old QB over his first six games. It was all building to a vintage performance from the two-time MVP — and on Sunday, we got it. In Green Bay’s 42-24 win over the Raiders, Rodgers completed 80.6 percent of his passes for 429 yards and five touchdowns, while also running for an additional score. And for the first time in the storied history of the Packers franchise, Green Bay’s quarterback finished a game with a perfect passer rating of 158.3. Did I mention Rodgers accomplished this without Davante Adams, working with hobbled and no-name wideouts? Sunday’s showing by No. 12 was, as my on-the-scene colleague Jeffri Chadiha put it, a frightening statement to the rest of the NFL.
The Packers have a great defense that currently ranks ninth in points allowed. They’re clearly starting to come into their own offensively. And most importantly, you don’t hear any more foolish chatter about Rodgers’ relationship with first-year head coach Matt LaFleur. Green Bay was my preseason pick to represent the amazing NFC in Super Bowl LIV, and seven Sundays into the season, I have no reason to think otherwise.

An obvious fact. San Fran is for real, with a sensational defense leading the way. Seattle is still strong, despite Sunday’s setback against the Ravens. The Rams needed a get-right game, and everyone gets right against these defunct Falcons. Not to mention, I loved L.A.’s aggressive trade for Jalen Ramsey. Lastly, don’t look now, but Kyler Murray, Kliff Kingsbury and the Cardinals have won three straight! Great effort and win by Patrick Peterson, Chandler Jones, Chase Edmonds and Murray.
I trust the totality of the teams in the West over that of the NFC North.
