The Rams’ best defensive play of the night came when Aaron Donald and Clay Matthews beat blocks quickly and sacked Rudolph for a safety. Steelers’ David DeCastro and Zach Banner never stood a chance.Taylor Rapp made some impressive tackles for short gains in run support and tackled McDonald for a loss after his catch. Nickell Robey-Coleman punched the ball out of Washinton’s hands, and the ball was recovered by Cory Littleton.
Goff once again didn’t get much time to throw from his offensive line, who struggled mightily to block the Steelers in one-on-one situations and stunts. The game ended ironically with a clean pocket for Goff, who just made a poor decision as he threw an interception that sealed the win for Pittsburgh.
Cooper Kupp had a quiet night, and the Rams’ passing game sputtered to a halt as a result. Todd Gurley produced good yardage with a number of big holes, but the run game was not a common theme for the Rams tonight.

Just taking notes:
– the 6-1 defense Detroit showed last November started the Rams issues for their offense. But Steelers ran all of 2 plays Sunday from that look. They don’t need to–they’re a very good defense up front. Beat the Rams OL up.
– Rams OL health in 2017 and 2018 was ridiculously good. Not sustainable. Losing Noteboom and now injuries vs Steelers are more the norm in the NFL.
– Do the Rams regret the Goff signing? Not ‘regret’ but probably feeling ‘uneasy.’
– OL won’t magically improve on its own.
– What can McVay do? Has he made adjustments? Conversations with people around the league include some ‘conspiracy theories’ that McVay is hiding some things he might have in mind. He is using more crack tosses out on the edge. In passing game working the quick passing game more. Goff simply has to play better…

znModeratorbut I’m gonna show bad form today. Cuz, yeah, I thought they neglected the O-line before the season started.
I don’t agree.
I think this is a case of out of an out of sync OL with new faces being rough (though winning 5 games) and then that gets taken as a talent issue.
They drafted 5 linemen in 2 years, 4 look good, and in fact one (Edwards) may be the best Rams low round pick in years and years. I think the future will vindicate the picks of Noteboom, Evans, and Edwards above all, and probably Allen too.
They then traded for one (a high 2nd rounder) and picked up another one as a cut (a viable move in line building).
That is not neglecting the OL.
Meanwhile yesterday they ended up with 4 spots on the OL manned by guys either out of position or fresh off the bench. No line looks good under those conditions.
I am in pretty strong disagreement with all the “told you so” OL posts.
That’s my 2 cents on this. Just posting it as my vote in the informal poll. We could argue about it all day but I don’t intend to. I just see it as 2 different votes.

That is not what’s going onTodd wants to be out there. He wants the rock. Sean would love to feed it to him. Often. The harsh reality of football/injury has sabotaged that.
The #Rams two biggest issues – working around pitch count plan on Todd Gurley & a revamped & now injured offensive line – reared their ugly head again.

The backs they have are better than CJ.
Plus he didn’t know the pass blocking routines and wasn’t much of a receiver, so whenever he was in there, defenses knew the Rams were going to run.
This is the issue and it has nothing to do with who starts at RB etc. Since last year, top DLs and front 7s have made the Rams look the way they did today. Pitt is one of those. So is SF. Last year, it was Detroit, Chicago, Phil, and in a different way, the Patz.
Last year it was because the OL was eroding, with Sullivan being a shell of himself.
This year it’s because it’s young and has not played together.
This stuff is not new–put the Rams up against a top DL/front 7 and it happens–and will keep happening until the OL finally solidifies.

The Rams signal-caller hasn’t turned it over or been sacked since the San Francisco loss. That may not be a sustainable streak – especially against a Pittsburgh defense that ranks among the NFL’s best in sacks and takeaways – but it is a trend that must be extended for the Rams to play into January.

The Rams defense has been solid and has the potential to be elite with the addition of Ramsey and the return of Clay Matthews.
In fact, if you love outside linebackers, this is the game for you.
Not only have Matthews and Dante Fowler combined for 12.5 sacks, but Obo Okoronkwo came away from London with the first 1.5 sacks of his career. This week will be telling to see how they, along with Samson Ebukam, are deployed in Wade Phillips’ game plan.
On the Steelers side, T.J. Watt is the top-graded edge rusher in the NFL by Pro Football Focus. He and reigning AFC Defensive Player of the Week Bud Dupree have combined for 13.5 sacks.

As I watch tape I see some QBs do SO much @ LOS (line of scrimmage) – some1 who is knowledgeable on subject, please tell me what all could be possibly happening on a given play? Recall prot? It’s no surprise that a Rams lineman would come up with a rosy picture of the Rams OL growth.
But I happen to think that what he says makes sense. The issue with the OL this year was continuity, coherence, and playing together. The problem with that is, it is impossible for individual linemen to look good when the OL as a whole isn’t cohering. So a lot of people I read around the net blame individual players. I believe AW–I think it’s the group, and the process of growing together.
