Leaving aside the privilege of multi-millionaire pro football coaches, I will note that from time to time, i have wondered how ‘genuine’ McVay really is. I mean, sometimes he just seems to me, like one of those corporate sales guys. (Snead Too) Ya know. The type of people who pour over those Corporate-CEO ‘self-help’ books. “How to make your organization more profitable AND be happy doing it” Etc.

I have long wondered if McVay kinda has these inner battles about his own ‘sincerity’ issues. He has a job where the insincerity is almost built-in. How can a pro coach ever really be totally sincere? How can he not ‘use’ his players to make the organization more successful.

It seems like McVay actually thinks about this tension between corporate-football-success (ie Winning) and being ‘sincere’ with all his business relationships.

To me, its kinda like trying to create “compassionate capitalism”. I mean, you can TRY, but its impossible. The lies are built in.

Anyway…McVay is a great coach. I’m just wondering if McVay’s burnout issues are not just about losing games. But maybe also about the fact that so many built-in dynamics almost force coaches to be full of shit.
