wvParticipantBTW, stopping a run away brawl is pretty difficult for one or two guys to do. From what I’ve seen of the video neither Long nor Laurinaitis escalated the brawl. It looked like both were in the middle trying to hold back some people. Not sure what other people are seeing, or expected of them.
Well, i think Laurinaitis had a lot of
fight breakups but
they were all mainly ten yards past
the sideline.w

Laram– The Giants began the game running simple dive plays right at Aaron Donald.
They tried to establish the run by muscling him up and running right at him.
The Giants had over 130yds rushing, most of it on dive plays.
Like dz and I were discussing last week, its a copycat league so expect to see more of that.
– Why was Barron in two high safety on the OBJ 80yd TD?
99% of the time the Rams have used Barron in the box, but Williams decides to get cute.
So what do the Giants do to counter? They run a combo route to cause confusion and create a mismatch. If you re-watch the play watch the routes and what Tru and Joyner do. The route caused the confusion and left Barron alone in deep coverage.
Greg Williams outsmarted himself on that alignment, and a smart OC took advantage.
– Simple stunts beat this o-line like a drum on both sides of the line. They ran a game on the right side that both Barks and DJ f-uped.
Of course we saw what happened to GRob, AGAIN!Like I’ve said before, that’s coaching!!
– Everything of course leads back to Jeff Fisher but there is a systemic issue with this team.

“Yes. I would be surprised. Now I can see what the officials are seeing with respect to Alec (Ogletree) and the late hit out of bounds, but when you look at it really close (WR) Odell (Beckham Jr.) has his face mask and he’s pulling him out of bounds, so it’s hard for him to let up. There were some other things that happened in there that were very disappointing, but I’m confident that the league will handle it. In addition to the discipline of their kicker. People get ejected for kicking people in the game and he was penalized, but there’s some sentiment, I thought he should have been ejected as well. If you buy into all the our ‘friskiness’ or all this stuff that they referred to, I think it would be good if they looked themselves in the mirror. They played really good and they played hard and they played physical. They beat us physically in a number of instances, but I don’t think we had a lot to do with those things on the sideline other than an attempt to break things up”

AlyoshamucciSo, I have a moment to talk about the last couple games, and that’s about it. I know there are many who read these and get a lot out of them, so I’ll say this up front, and be moving on . .
“The team this year has no starting QB, and any team that does not have a starting QB has no real shot. Fisher gets 5 years from me. Continuity is the only thing that can save us, the WORST franchise besides the Raiders.”
We’ve seen how well we can play, and had a few games gone a little different we’d be in the hunt, even with backup QBs.
The Good
1) Gaines is okay (not injured). He has done a better job than I could have ever imagined, and he is playing the “straight man” opposite Jenkins. Also, he doesn’t seem to have any injury or mental awareness issues. Tru may be expendable, which means someone will pay handsomely for him and we’ll net a compensatory pick.
2) Aaron Donald should be in the pro bowl. What a great pick.
3) Robinson seems to be getting more comfortable, and showing off some of the freakish athleticism that we expect.
4) Kenny Britt has earned a paycheck from us. His aggression and leadership are priceless, and beyond that he makes tough catches.
5) Our team has an attitude. I like that.
6) Austin is becoming more of a factor. At least he hasn’t maxed out his usefulness.
7) mason’s TD was fierce. Facemasked and STILL made the pylon.
The bad
8) I did not like the let-down against the Giants. The Cards was depressing too, though we were inches away from that one (Jenks pick, Bailey’s drop, ouch). I REALLY did not like Shaun Hill’s performance in either game. That changes my draft, because apparently we need a better backup than we have.
9) Our interior line is not acceptable.
10) There was a lack of imagination on defense against the Giants, and the inability to cover the most explosive player in the NFL over the last two weeks confuses me. Why didn’t we adjust the coverage?
11) No defensive line sacks. Its like they can hear it when they are being praised and play at half speed.
12) Stedman has to know he’s hot and be ready, even for a questionably thrown pass.
13) How many of Sims’ penalties for roughing were real? This is a question. I remember three out of the 5 mentioned and they were barely calls or bad calls.
14) The commentators need to stay off the “moving to LA” thing for one . . darn . . game.
15) Throw the ball to Stedman more.
The Ugly
16) Frustrated fans. I don’t get it. We like the worst team in the NFL, we’re accountable for making the best of it, just like anything else in our lives.
Draft. So the play of Hill the past few games means we cant make the playoffs with him even if he is surrounded by talent. That changes my draft board.
1) Trade down and pick up a 4th . . draft Scherff at 15 to play OG. (There is a chance I take Arik Armstead here if Fish okays his personality)
2-8) Shane Carden
3) Gallek OC BC
4) Stephon Anthony MLB/OLB Clemson
5) Zegarrette Davis DE Kentucky Freak at 6-6 275 plays inside and out, but on Kentucky in a great class where he’ll be overshadowed.
6) Jeff Prater WR Northwestern 6-5 222 USC transfer with hands and physical ability
7) Gabe Wright DT AuburnUDFA Uzomah TE Auburn 6-5 268.

West Virginia WR Kevin White, 6-3, 209, Sr., 4.49: No player has improved his draft stock more in 2014 than White. It isn’t just his production (102 catches for 1,318 yards and nine touchdowns) that impresses scouts. White’s size, strength and ability to come down with contested grabs is something that every team in the NFL is wants at the position.i think Seattle will draft him.

While perhaps not as stout as preferred, Thompson’s fluidity, reliable open-field tackling and big-play moxie could earn him a hybrid linebacker/safety role.

vEither way, last game, if Rams don’t make mistakes on special teams and in coverage–which led directly to 17 points–they beat the Giants 27-20. That’s with all the aforementioned problems in the post-loss multiplication of problems people see: run D, chippiness and discipline, below par OL play, etc.

wvParticipantNY Times article
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/12/22/sports/football/odell-beckham-jr-stars-in-win-over-st-louis.html?ref=football&_r=0See link…Andre Williams filled in for the injured starter Rashad Jennings (ankle) and rushed for 110 yards on 26 carries, including a 45-yard run midway through the third quarter that helped set up Manning’s 7-yard touchdown pass to Rueben Randle.
“Just attacking their weaknesses,” said Randle, who was targeted six times and caught six passes for 132 yards in his most productive game of the season. “Up front, they have some great pass rushers,” he added, singling out Chris Long and Robert Quinn.
“We wanted to run the ball and get them tired a little bit,” Randle added. “On third down, hopefully have some manageable situations.”

…DANCE FEVER
Beckham likes all touchdown celebrations, even when they’re not his. So no, he didn’t have a problem with Rams rookie running back Tre Mason, who scored a 10-yard second-quarter rushing TD to close the game to 20-10, then did Beckham’s “Whip” dance, followed by Victor Cruz’s salsa. In fact, Beckham said, he knew something was coming, because Mason had hinted it to him on Saturday night.
“Tre is like a brother to me,” Beckham said. “I saw him last night before the game. He told me. . . ‘I got something for you tomorrow.’ And I was kind of thinking we’ll see what happens. All you can do is laugh, and it feeds you even more.”

wvParticipantI have been thinking the same thing, have we improved. Seattle needs to win on Sunday for a bye. With Fisher, our record has gotten worse, 7-8-1, 7-9, to 6-10(maybe)? That is 20 wins in 3 years. No Head Coach would last that long. I know Fisher and company will be back, but if he does not turn this around quickly, Fisher and his staff will be gone. Nextyear he knows this team has to win at least 10 games, no excuses.
How much of a break do we give Snisher
since they lost their starting QB,
two years in a row?Ah well. Snisher will get another
year. Let us hope they do not
give us a fourth year of
inconsistent-mediocrity.
I do not want to be sitting here

wvParticipantWell put RFL I agree. I hate to say it but the strangest thing happened watching the SEA AZ game. I think I’m now a Seahawks fan, I actually enjoyed watching them play in a way I haven’t enjoyed the Rams since 2003 and Fisher in his 3 years has sucked out every last bit of joy from watching the Rams play.

wvParticipantWell, i share the threads
emotions of disgust and loathing 🙂I got nuthin analytical to say yet.
I cant even ‘go there’. That
was…awful. The interior of an OLine is
the most critical link
for an offense. Ya just cant
play offense with a soft middle. And the defense,
couldnt handle a good vet QB
and a great WR.Wouldnt surprise me if the Rams
lost by 24 to Seattle, and
it wouldnt surprise me if
they won by 10.There is something very wrong
with this team, but i am hoping
that there is an upward trajectory
going on here and its just hard to
see.Three years of mediocrity.
Year Four — I just hope
they totally tank or they
win 12 games. I do NOT wanna
see another mediocre 7 win type season.
Fisher had a bunch of 8 win seasons in Tennessee
and then they broke thru. So perhaps
there is hope in the dark.w

we have a board consensus that they
need to replace Wells at Center,
and find a solid Guard.w
v
wvParticipant6 and 9, staring at 6 and 10.
Just an awful performance from start
to finish. The D had no answer for Rueben Randle or OB.
Eli just picked them apart,
as per usual. (in four games 12 TDs, 1 INT)This D can be sensational, but it can also
be “unsound”. I dont know what other word to use.
It can be real flashy, but I’m not sure it
can really be “reliable” over the long haul. The O obviously needs better players at QB
G and Center. For me, this was Fisher’s worse loss
in his three years. This was bad.
Year three, at home, against a 5 win team,
with a chance to finish .500 — to be that
undisciplined. To get picked apart like that.
Geez. Bad, bad loss. Itz not the end of the world,
but THAT was the epitome of “Bad bad Loss.”
