ParticipantSo the Ravens only handed the ball to RBs six times, i guess. The pundits are all talking about the playcalling. That ‘does’ seem a bit strange. Six runs?
I dunno. Maybe Harbaugh just put the game on Lamar.
One thing i noticed that i havent seen discussed, was the way Spags’ defense contained Lamar. I mean, the chiefs passrushers got pressure, but they ALSO were extremely lane-savvy if thats a term. They were playing games that Lamar was not able to figure out. Reminded me a bit of what the Rams used to do to Russell Wilson back when he was in his prime.
Maybe most teams dont have the talent to execute what the Chiefs D did. I dunno.
But it was somethin to see.

ParticipantGoff played well enough to be in the Super Bowl.
I mean, ironically it was the rest of the team that let down Goff, not the other way around.

ParticipantIts a good matchup. Seems to be a consensus that SF has the most stars of any team in the NFL and maybe the most overall talent player for player.
But the Chiefs have the best defense and the best player on the planet.
Two great coaches.
I have no idea, but i lean toward that KC defense and that Mahomes guy.

ParticipantAlso eight penalties for 95 yards against Baltimore. Three for 30 against KC.
Four sacks allowed by Baltimore’s Oline. Two allowed by KC

ParticipantYeah, Ravens minus 3 in turnovers. Two fumbles, One int.
Ah well. The media is gonna decorticate Lamar all week. Just like they did, Josh Allen.

ParticipantEnd of third quarter: KC 57 total plays, Balt 36.
Time of possession: KC 29 minutes , Balt 16 minutes.
Total yards about even.

ParticipantIts interesting that McVay loses so many coaches. I wonder if any other coaches have to replace as many assistants annually. Andy Reid? Belichick? Harbaugh? Shanahan? w v
Part of it is that McV likes young, tuned-in, “I’m part of what’s new and hip” style offensive coaches. And as it happens, at the exact same time, that became a holy grail in the league. So…the league goes, why research coaches? McVay already did that for us. (But then you wonder why Mike LaFleur didn’t get any bites as a head coach.) Anyway. The position that sells for the Rams is qb coach. So far that has produced 2 coordinators and 2 head coaches in the last 7 years. (Olson is 61 and has been around, he’s not like the others).
I would make a lousy assistant-coach-picker-outer. I mean, i can just picture myself putting together a complete mish-mash of coaches. A Defensive guy from the Belichex tree, a bit of Andy Reid here, and Harbaugh there. A dash of Shanahan. Maybe a special teams coach from the Bud Grant tree.

ParticipantI’m not sure where to put this, but I’ll put it here, i guess. They cover various things, but the part i thought was good, was the discussion of the Bills and Josh Allen. GCossell says Josh Allen ran the offense perfectly. The Bills defense was decimated so they made the decision not to attack down the field against KC.

ParticipantDotson seems like a priority, i would think.
I know they dont have much cap room, but I’m hoping they can scrounge up another really solid OLineman. A right tackle, maybe. Hav had a good year, but his body is probly put together with duct tape at this point.
We know what they need on defense. And they will either hit on their draft picks or they wont. IF they do (pass rusher, corner, repeat) they can be in the potential-NFC-championship conversation.
Hard to imagine Snead having another draft as good as the last one, but if he does….

ParticipantSo, how many black head-coaches does the NFL have now? Tomlin. Pierce in Vegas. Bowles in Tampa. Morris in Atlanta. 4, now. Is that it?

Participant“….Former Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel should be added to this list, too, although he’s not in a bullet point because it’s unclear whether he would take a defensive coordinator job after he was a head coach (similarly why Bill Belichick isn’t included in a bullet point, though McVay deeply admires the former longtime New England coach).”
—
Yes, and Chuck Norris, Flipper, Anton Chigurh, and the God of the Old Testament were also not included in a bullet point.

ParticipantThis is the kind of thing the media will minimize or ignore, but it looks huge to me.

“….However, there is some bad news for the Lions. Their starting left guard suffered an injury against the Buccaneers, and will likely be out.
The Detroit Lions will likely not have their Pro Bowl guard in the NFC Championship Game.
Jonah Jackson injured his knee in the first half of the Divisional Round after he tweaked his knee run blocking. Jackson limped off the field and went straight…”

ParticipantBout the 10 or 11 minute mark of the vid, Mark Sanchez talks about the Lions QB coach and what he’s worked on with Goff, etc.
wv
Participantfwiw…saw a vid where former Rams DE Chris Long was being interviewed and he said — and im paraphrasing — his assessment of Goff depended on the weather. He was not high on Goff if Goff had to play in rain or bad weather. So, he was interested in what the weather was going to be in San Francisco. He said if the weather was good, Goff could be good….

ParticipantSo its Lions at 49ers for the NFC. Probly the two best teams in the NFC this year.
Should be a close game, i would think. Especially if Deebo is out.
If Goff gets to the super bowl and does poorly, the media will be merciless.

ParticipantBut after the bye they scaled back on him. He apparently applied himself in camp last summer and upped his game. Then he got hurt and Robinson seemed to displace him. He had 54 targets, 6 a game avg., before the bye. After the bye he missed 3 games, but then only had 13 targets in 5 games, 2.6 a game. That’s some serious back-scaling. This is just speculation but…I think TA stepped up this season but McV still had to program him in in specific ways. He was good at what he did in 2023 but what he did was more limited than Robinson. When Robinson finally stepped up, he became the 3rd WR–after the bye he had 38 targets, or 5.4 a game. Just guessing, but it looks like at that point McV was just less interested in programming in “Atwell plays.”
Yeah, Robinson’s emergence, did push tutu down to no.4-role-player, but he still was so much better than in the previous years.
This season included so many solid years by the non-stars on this team. McSnead built a solid ‘team.’ Remarkable year.

ParticipantIMO the best “story” SB would be Detroit v. Houston. Though, Detroit physically beating up Stafford while he was on the ground soured me on them.
Yeah, motor-city is like that. I didnt like it when Laimbeer and Rodman went after Stafford and Faulk.

ParticipantWell, i say they should just keep drafting record-breaking rookies-of-the-year.

ParticipantSigh. Well, I get the frustration old-schoolers have with toning down the violence. I get it. And DB’s are in a difficult situation with the big Tight Ends running over and through the small DBs these days.
But…ya just cant allow that kind of hit on a football player anymore. You cant allow launching at the knee. Even if its not intentional.
The DB should have to go lower or higher. And yeah, its asking a lot. But the NFL wants offense and they want healthy players. So, figure out a rule.

ParticipantOn the CJ hit of KW. I dont know what the rule is. I know a tackler cant use his helmet, but can a tackler hit an RB’s head with the shoulder? I would think on a bang-bang play like that, CJ’s hit would be legal. Dangerous as F, but legal.

ParticipantBy far the best of wildcard round Puka Nacua setting single game receiving postseason rookie record was awesome. Watching Stafford take elbows to the head on the end of a 3 step run that started after the ball was thrown that shot knocked him down and the other asshole knees him in the head and rib stomps him for good measure the camera stops and the ref’s shoes are center frame, he saw every single bit of it and did nothing. Can’t wait till next year!
Little bit reminiscent of the Belichex plan against Faulk and company way back when. Beat up the opposition and take it as far as it will go unless the refs start throwin flags.
