    “….Of course, this requires action. But it’s so much easier to blame others — Big Ag, Big Pharma, Big Food, Big Circus, or whomever — than to make responsible lifestyle choices. Maybe that explains the media coverage.”
    =========================

    Well, fwiw, they lose ‘me’ when they put this kind of thing in the article. That causes all kinds of alarm bells to go off in my head. I mean, why add that last sentence? Where does ‘that’ come from?

    Those big-ass corpse are subverting what little democracy there is, polluting the planet, and destroying the biosphere. Thats ‘worse’ than causing cancer.

    Well, the mainstream-corporate-capitalist -LA-Times is owned by a South African Billionaire who made his money in the Health Care Biz. I dont know much about him, but I imagine the Times’ views on many big-econ-power issues are influenced by Mr Soon-Shiong.

    I saw a hilite of one of his runs, and i heard the name Frank Gore and I couldnt believe he was still playing.

    That guy is a warrior and a damn fine RB. I always thought he and Steven Jackson were equals.

    In the grand scheme of things, I kinda am-ok with the fact the Rams lost. I almost like it. There’s just somethin about this team that dont deserve to be 4-1. Ya know. 3-2 seems exactly right.

    Just seems to me this year’s ‘identity’ has somethin to do with struggling, clawing, fighting. Last year was so…easy, up until late in the season.

    This year they are gonna hafta win the hard way. Its not a dream-team. But if the OLine begins to gel, and the tight ends get in the flow…

    There’s still a good chance this team can go far. But their gonna haf to ‘earn this.’

    I only saw the highlights, but it looks like Wilson is the best player in the NFC, right now.

    Looked like the rams D was oh-so-close time after time, but RW is RW.

    Gonna be a dogfight this season. No team is gonna run away with it.

    WV, this is actually going to be Game 5.

    Did you mean the TB told us a lot, or are you saying the Seattle game is going to tell us a lot?

    Sorry, being an engineer, I’m a numbers guy.

    I have no idea what is going to happen tomorrow, and it is making me a bit sick to my stomach.

    ====

    Shit. Well, like I’ve always said, I never make any judgments until after FIVE games. Thats what I’ve always said.

    Engineers. Damn engineers.

    WV,

    This is in dispute, of course, and it’s not an exact science. But several articles after the 2016 noted that far and away most of those “Obama to Trump” voters had previously voted Republican for their entire adult lives. As in, it wasn’t that they switched from the Dems to Trump. They switched from the GOP to Obama (first), and then back to Trump again.

    Also in dispute is what caused the switch, but I think that’s where your comment about the Dems driving people into the hands of the “populist right” comes in..

    ===================

    Yeah, I think thats true that many were Reps who switched to Obama, but it doesnt really change the issue. They ‘could’ have just stayed the course and voted for Hillary, who was essentially a continuation of Obama.
    But they rejected that totally.

    Somethin about the Dems just pissed em off, i guess 🙂

    ….Has any National American Politician ‘ever’ gotten people’s blood up
    as much as Donald Trump? Lincoln maybe?

    Exactly. An aberration or a reflection of serious problems?

    Game four should tell us a lot.

    Awfully tough place to play. Seattle. I’d be satisfied if the Rams put in a gutty performance and hung in there till the end, winning or losing a close one.

    Wouldnt surprise me if the Rams won, but I gotta go with Seattle. They have an excellent coach, play at home, will be sky-high for the game, played the Rams tough last year, and have improved. The Rams are probly not as good as the team that nipped Seattle twice last year. I think the Rams will split with them this year.

    Seattle 31
    Rams 24

    Fair enough, but once in a while sit back and ask yourself how bad the ‘normal Dems’ had to be, to push half the country towards Trump. I mean, why didnt the Dems appeal to these people?

    w
    v

    My answer to that is: It wasn’t the Democrats that pushed them it was ALL politicians including republicans. .

    ============

    Well, I dont think Trump voters are some monolithic block. You dont think that either, right.

    What you are describing sounds like the racist-nationalist part of his core. Maybe also the rightwing-evangelical-block but I’m not sure how many of them actually liked Trump.

    But he’s got other blocks. For example many of the West Virginians who voted for Trump, had previously voted for Obama. How do you explain that one? 🙂

    I’ve said it before, but imho, the Rams aint handling this well, and Todd Gurley aint handling this well.

    The Rams are tiptoeing around a delicate situation while pretending it doesn’t even exist. They are either desperately trying to preserve a healthy Gurley or managing a damaged one.

    Yeah, i remembered how much you like him, BT.

    I saw that poem in a bird book I’m skimming, called Life of the Skies, by Jonathan Rosen:
    —————–
    “…the fact that the bird is not singing for the benefit of the human listener, is oddly not disheartening; it’s proof that something new and strange is there….
    …..the bird is simply there– alien, but the fact that it is alien is oddly a sign of hope,,,,
    …Stevens conjures in a very cerebral poem, the opposite of thought. Just as he creates, despite the weird chilliness of the poem, a kind of comfort. The sort of comfort that comes from encountering reality–even harsh reality, even death.”
    —————

    …somehow, some of that resonates with how i feel about the whole ‘situation’ we find ourselves in theze days…
