Reading around on SF. Did you know they have FOUR guys over 1000 yards? The GSOT never had that, right?
Kittle, McCaffrey, Aiyuk, Deebo. And Purdy has over 4000 yards passing.
“…The Lions also have an outside shot at it but would need rookie Sam LaPorta to get 136 yards to join Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery with at least 1,000 yards from scrimmage. Jared Goff already has hit the 4,000-yard mark in passing..”

wvParticipantSuch a strange situation. Does the game mean more to the Rams or SF? Shanahan or McVay? Does ‘vanilla’ favor the 49ers or Rams?
If you are a player how do play hard yet protect yourself for the playoffs?

“…We wondered whether Brock Purdy would start for the 49ers Sunday and head coach Kyle Shanahan provided the answer on Wednesday afternoon. Purdy is out, and Sam Darnold is in.
This comes on the heels of the Rams announcing that starting quarterback Matthew Stafford will rest in Week 18 in favor of Carson Wentz.
Shanahan said, “Brock’s the only guy for sure I don’t plan on playing.” That’s not counting Christian McCaffrey, of course.
Shanahan said, “there’s a good chance we’re playing this team in two weeks, so I think both sides will be pretty vanilla” when talking about the game plan for Sunday….
===wvParticipantWiki “..Bruss was drafted by the Rams in the third round, 104th overall, of the 2022 NFL Draft. He suffered a torn ACL and MCL in the team’s second preseason game and was ruled out for his rookie season. On August 29, 2023, Bruss was waived by the Rams and re-signed to the practice squad.”
—
Well, I had forgotten about Bruss. No-one has taken him off the Practice Squad, so i guess no other NFL team likes him, either.
Yeah, i guess with all this talk about how good Snead is, 2022 was not a great draft class as far as number of hits. Though, Kyren is so good, I dunno — i might just give the class a B+ just based on that one hit.
w

wvParticipant“Signed a four-year, $3.97 million contract with the Rams in June of 2022.”
And this is what he’s making with the Rams.
If yer Kyren, do you hold out for a better contract next year?

Draft class 2022
wvParticipantEnh. I’ve seen all this too many times now. Somebody doing really well on a line with Aaron Donald. I dunno how good Turner really is. He’s certainly played well, and he’s ‘solid’ and he was a great draft pick. But more than that, I dunno. w v
that’s a valid point but he should still be in the conversation. at the very least. i don’t know that mainstream media is actually talking about him as a candidate.
Sure, he should be ‘in the conversation’ as to Defensive Rookie of the Year.
And he will be. Cause LA has a good hype-machine, etc. It aint like trying to get a Cincy or Cleveland player some national ink.
I’d be curious how the various DC’s talk about him in the film room, though. IF AD wasnt there, would Turner get double-teamed? Is he that kind of wrecking-ball? Or just a solid DT benefiting from AD?

wvParticipantwvParticipant“..Despite all of the success he and the Rams have had with the Shanahan scheme, McVay sought out new ideas from outside his coaching tree.”

One wonders if this had something to do with Shanahan beating McVay so often. Always seems like Shanahan is one step ahead of McVay, I dunno.
But if I had been in the situation McVay was in, I would have thought to myself, ‘maybe i need to go outside the Shanahan box, just so Shanahan cant predict every move i’m gonna make anymore’.
Possible? Yes? No?
Or did McVay simply hire the coaches he happened to think were the ‘best available’.
w
v
wvParticipantI’m thinking of resting myself, Sunday; I think i will be fresher for the Playoffs.
When’s the last time a 6th or 7th seed got to rest starters in the last game, btw? When’s the last time TWO teams faced off and BOTH were resting starters?
w
v
wvParticipant“According to DVOA creator Aaron Schatz, the Rams currently have the sixth-lowest special teams DVOA in league history.”

w
v
wvParticipantAs much as i hate seeing either SF or LA rest their starters, it just makes too much sense to do it. The walking wounded would benefit from it.
It would still be nice for the Rams’ second-string to beat the 49ers second-string.
Weird situation. I dont remember this happening before. Dunno what to think of it.
Will either team even pass the ball more than ten times?
w
v
wvParticipantCowherd has been beating the drum for offensive-coaches for a long time, but this is the most forceful I’ve seen him. (I dont agree or disagree, btw)

Or Norm Crosby. Or Bing.
Or Tom Dempsey.
Somebody.

wvParticipantThe Packers are the only team that can overtake the Rams for the No. 6 seed, so their game against the Bears is the only other matchup that can affect Los Angeles’ seeding. If the Rams lose and the Packers beat Chicago, Green Bay will be the No. 6 seed based on its head-to-head tiebreaker over Los Angeles
Well, that’s unfortunate, since that’s probably what will happen, in which case the Rams go to Dallas where the Cowboys are unbeaten this year.
First off, Chicago is going to trounce the Packers. Its a lock. I will bet Nittany’s soul on that.
Second, i like the Rams chances against Dallas in Dallas. I actually like their chances against Dallas more than Detroit.
Plus, beating the Cowboys AND the 49ers on their march to another Super Bowl beating the Ravens — in this ‘retooling’ year, is a nice story.
w
v
wvParticipantMike Tomlin has, like, 17 years in a row of ‘non-losing’ football seasons.
One Super Bowl win in 2008.
One Super Bowl loss in 2010. (also won a ring as an assistant with Tampa, btw)
As head coach: 172-100-2
Post season 8-9
7 division titles.
So, is he a great coach? Something less than that? Would we be happy with that as Ram fans?
w
v
wvParticipantIn many ways they played just-awful. But they have stars. Stafford. Donald. Kupp. Nacua. KW. Higby. They had more talent than Big-Blue.
And at the end, the Giant players could not quite make the big-clutch plays they needed to make. Cause they aint as talented.
Now, put Aaron Donald, Cooper Kupp and Chuck Norris on special teams, and lets move on.
And what a weird F’ing situation in the last week of the regular season. 49ers dont need it. Rams dont need it. What will they do?
w
v
wvParticipantGreat one point win on the road against a mediocre team.
I could criticize a million things. Don’t feel like it. Best team won.
Winning season. Awesome.

I dont think it can ever by over-stated just how great it must be for McVay to have a veteran with as much mental-power and experience as Matthew Stafford. Now that Brady has retired, who is the top QB-brain active on the grid-iron? If it aint Stafford, I dunno who it would be.
w
v
wvParticipantThe OLine has been good, indeed. But i reaaallly want them to hold up against the 49ers Dline. In the Shannahan era the Rams Oline’s for the most part, have been batted around like cat-toys by the SF Dline.
I assume McV has gotten really sick of that. Hence the changes this year.
The Oline passed the Baltimore test which was a big one, but still, to me, there’s always one real test — San Francisco.
w
v
wvParticipantLooked like KC wasnt missing a beat when they traded Tyreek Hill, but i think its caught up with them. There is just no way you replace a guy like Hill. No way. I think Hill and Mahomes were the most dangerous duo in modern NFL history. Maybe more than, say, Brady and Moss. I dunno.
I’m sure there are other factors in KC’s regression, but i know losing Hill is part of it.

wvParticipantDamn, i did not know Puka is not Nacua’s real name. There’s a vid in another thread called “How did so many teams get wrong about rookie of the year Puka Nacua,” and the youtuber said ‘Makea’ is his real name. Puka means chubby and he was a chubby baby, so the nickname…

Doesnt look like one of those years, where one QB (Brady) is lightyears ahead of the others. They are kinda bunched up. The pundits have been yak-ing about Dak all year, but his numbers arent much different from Staffords.
w
v
wvParticipantwvParticipantI love smash-mouth football ; I just figured that out, this season.
Avila is 6’3″ 330 pounds.
Dotson is 6’4″ 321 pounds.
I dont ever wanna see a small, agile guard again.
w
v
wvParticipantI have no clue, no inkling about what to expect in the Giant game, but I’m guessing its gonna be a gut-busting, physical, low-scoring, close, game.
My cold, rational, reasoning on this, is, the Football Gods just don’t make things easy for the Rams.
Rams 16
Giants 15
w
v
wvParticipantwvParticipantWell if i had the 23 pick, It’d be awfully tempting to trade down a bit. Pick up another 3rd or somethin. I dunno.
w
v
wvParticipant…. kyren is the rams most important addition to this offense since matthew stafford himself. i know nacua gets more accolades and maybe he even has a better overall career than kyren when it’s all over, but williams not only makes this offense harder to defend, but my feeling is that he will extend stafford’s career by at least another couple years if kyren can stay healthy. by far the best running back stafford has ever had the pleasure of playing with. already. and yeah. his ability to process things quickly is his strength. in a way that makes me like him more than gurley…
Yes, and its just really good team-building by Mc/Snead. They did a lot of things right. Added lots of puzzle pieces and achieved a synergy of sorts.
I mean, McV self-evaluated and apparently, saw the need for a more physical run component.
Then Snead drafted the big Guard and added the vet from the Steelers, etc.
And they added Nacua partly because he’s physical and willing to block.
And of course that shift helps Stafford stay healthy and feel confident and stay in third and short situations, etc, etc.
So, yeah, i agree about KW but its also kinda hard to separate the puzzle pieces and see them separately. Its just a really cool ‘whole’ that they all put together this year. And what makes a lot of us kinda smile, is – there’s no OBJ, no Vonn Miller, no Jalen Ramsey, etc. Its kinda fun to see a group come together like this.
Course if they lose to the Giants, they are bums and the offensive coordinator should be fired.
w
v
wvParticipantAt around the 25 min mark, Rich Eisen talks about maybe, Nacua winning Offensive Rookie of Year, and Matt Stafford winning Comeback Player of Year.
