I’d like to have Britt back. If Britt comes back, and if Quick stays healthy, and Bailey can stay out of trouble, the WR corp isn’t bad. Not sure about Tavon, yet, in regards to usage.

Apparently the Pats wanted Kendricks. They have a pretty good track record with FA signings. The Rams may have had to overpay, a little, to keep him, because of the Pats, but I think it’s a good signing. I believe he also plays on STs.

Well, what if they can sign TWO solid
Oline free agents. Wiznewskovitz or whoever at Center,
    and then a solid Guard.

IF, they can pull ‘that’ off — then they
can take one of the great WRs at the ten spot,
and ‘still’ draft another OLineman in the 2nd round.

Wisniewski is talking to Tampa, now, but it’s for a guard position. The Rams should be able to offer him a little more as a center. But I don’t know how much cap space Tampa has, or how much they’re willing to pay. I’m really hoping we upgrade center with this guy. PFF has him as a top 5 pass blocking center for the last 3 years. He’s gotta be worth some cash.

I don’t like this. We’re still carrying the risk of Sam’s knees. That’s bad.

Ugh. Yeah. Just saw this. I was hoping we had cut all ties to Bradford. Well, at least he’s not getting $13 Million from the Rams, whether he’s hurt or not.

Eagles get Bradford, a 5th-round pick from St. L this year, in exchange for Foles, a 4th-rounder this year, & 2nd-ronder in 16.

So we get Foles, a 4th rounder this year, and a 2nd in 2016.

We gave up Bradford and a 5th rounder this year?

If that’s correct, and I’m still not sure, then I’m quite pleased.

I am pretty happy about this.

I always liked Sam, and I backed last year’s bet.

This year is different. His knees cannot be trusted. And he is on his last year. It’s a lame duck year for the guy, and, unlike many here, I never expected much. I just do not trust him to be healthy.

What do we get? A healthy young QB with indications of a possible high ceiling. But, a cuttable guy if he doesn’t work out. AND, a reversion to the normal QB roster challenge. To make a good bet on the year, we don’t need TWO starter-worthy QBs. A true BUP and/or a rookie developmental guy constitute due diligence. That is a far more doable roster challenge than trying to cover another bet on Sam’s knees.

I also like what it says about our FO. They realized all along that Sam’s health is not worthy of an uncovered bet. They took proactive steps to take advantage of really the only viable starting QB available. AND they have now cleared a helluva lot of cap space.

Think of it. We can now afford 2 or 3 good FAs for our OL and, perhaps, WR, DT or CB.

This move is a sound upgrading of our roster, folks. I really like it.

It may not work out. Foles may fail and Sam may thrive in Philly. OK. I won’t beef. We have stabilized our roster, gotten out from under Sam’s salary, and can address the future.

    Now, 2 steps remain:

    1. Build up the OL.

    2. Draft a promising QB–Grayson, for my tastes.

Do that, and I will sing the FO’s praises on the off-season.

Yep. Agreed on all of that.

I do think that if Bradford had been willing to renegotiate his contract with an incentive laden deal (like zn talks about), and free up a lot of cap space, the Rams my have stuck with Bradford. But the money, cap space, injury history, it’s just too much.

The only leverage the Rams had was trading Bradford. It may work, it may not, but at least now he’s someone else’s problem.

I have no issue with that.

On .NFL Inisers @ 4:02 ET Mort said that the Rams are getting Foles AND draft compensation. Although not confirmed, ESPN ran it across the “breaking news” for the past 15 mins until I left the house @ 4:45.

Mort said the Rams could get “as high as a 2nd rounder”.

If true, we raped the Iggles.

Yeah. That was the first report I read. I was okay with that. Gaining a ton of cap space, getting Foles, and getting a decent draft pick isn’t a bad deal.

Jake Long, Wells, and Bradford… gone. Whew! We still need a center, and a better O-line overall, but there’s money in the bank now.

The Eagles will take on the final remaining year of Bradford’s contract which is currently valued at $12.985 million. The Eagles could extend him or renegotiate that figure down to be more in line with his more recent production. Considering they just traded for him I would imagine a short term extension is more likely than a pay cut unless Bradford is just looking for a change of scenery and was willing to take a cut to make the deal happen.

The Rams will carry $3.595 million in cap charges for Bradford, but that will represent a savings of $12.985 million. Foles costs next to nothing this year, just $1.542 million. Foles is also in the final year of his contract and could be extended if the Rams view him as their long term solution. Extending Foles now, if they believe strongly in him, will result in a better contract for the Rams if he were to play out his deal and succeed.

And do the Rams now pick at 20 instead of 10?

If true, its annoying, but still, they just need OLinemen.
And you can find a powerhouse of an Olineman at 20, I would think.

Yeah. Money. Kinda sucks. But I think the Rams wanted a -we stuck by you now give us a home team discount-, thingy. Pure speculation on my part.

Anyway, the Rams solved that problem by trading him. And picking up draft picks, which they still need.

Yeah, I dunno. I can’t speak to whether Foles is a leader. The Eagles didn’t want him though. Sam certainly can run a spread offense…

I can see trading Bradford if you no longer think he’s your guy, but settling for Foles makes me gag. And why did it take Snisher so long to figure out Bradford wasn’t their guy? If they had figured that out a year ago or sooner they could have had better options for a replacement.

I think some of this is about money. Bradford and his agent wouldn’t budge, at least that’s what I’ve read.

I don’t know much about him, but if he played for the Raiders so how good could he be? If he is as good as he seems, that would change the whole complexion of our line. Man O Man.

I don’t know if he’s any good, either. But he’s gotta be better than Wells.

Here’s what Rotoworld says about him. Please take it with a shaker of salt. The Raiders are gonna sign Hudson at center, for a crapload of money. So Wisniewski is apparently entertaining suitors, today.

The Raiders are expected to move on from free agent G/C Stefen Wisniewski.
Wisniewski is a rare “homegrown talent” on the Raiders, but was drafted by the old Al Davis regime. The 26-year-old is an above-league-average interior offensive lineman. The most surprising part is the Raiders’ willingness to let a young starter walk. They don’t have many quality young starters.

I agree, but I don’t see how it’s going to happen. You can only count on a couple of great O-line prospects through the draft……and “beast through free agency” doesn’t happen very successfully, very often. Servicable is the most you can expect from free agency. If Barksdale leaves, than the situation becomes even worse. We can pony up for Barksdale, but he is more in the “servicable” category.

At some point, some of these lower round draft prospects need to earn their keep. I liked Barnes, but he’s gone, which means we don’t even have a center.

If we get Foles, I guarantee you it’ll cost of us a beast (meaning opportunity cost).

I think we’re going after this guy. I think. Heck, who knows???

    Stefen Wisniewski – C – Raiders

The Rams have “touched base” with free agent C Stefen Wisniewski.
Their only known competitors are the Bears. The Raiders have moved on after signing Rodney Hudson, and the Cardinals likely have as well after landing Mike Iupati. Wisniewski is 26 years old. He’d be an instant upgrade on outgoing Scott Wells for a Rams line in desperate need of capable bodies.

Rams don’t seem to care to much about a free agent center. That’s a shame.

    No. Week 7 of 2012.
Awesome set-up he had for that game. Steve Smith, Austin Pettis, Brandon Gibson and Chris Givens as his receivers. Only Givens remains, and probably not for long. The only lineman still on the team from that game is Barksdale; and again, probably not for long.

2012. That’s even more depressing. He’s probably had 40 WRs and 30 o-lineman by now.

another consideration is that defenses started to get a book on foles. the question would then be can foles make adjustments to counteract that?

I don’t know, but to me it doesn’t matter. When I try to look at this from the Rams point of view, what I see is a team that desperately needs a better QB behind Bradford.

Is Foles better than Austin Davis? IMO, yes. I feel like this team won’t get above .500 with Davis at QB. We all know the Rams, again, have a tough schedule. I can’t see Davis winning many road games against average to good teams.

I’m looking at this season as if Bradford is not on the team. Kind of a morbid outlook, I know, but I don’t trust that Bradford will be healthy.

Now comes the question of cost. How much do the Rams have to give up to get Foles? I don’t know, or even have a clue. But I know that without a decent QB this team doesn’t finish above .500.

I believe the Rams are a good football team. Unfortunately, they don’t have a QB. And in a “QB only” league, the Rams have no shot. Whatever the cost, they need to find a way to upgrade that position through FA, the draft, or whatever. Or this is gonna be just another season of beating some good teams, losing to some bad teams, and blowing playoff chances.

Go get Foles. Right now Bradford is rehabbing, and Austin Davis is the only QB on the team that can start a game. He can’t win half of them, but at least he can start.

This is correct. I suspect it was one reason why he got the job. He offers a unique perspective on these prospects.

I wonder if this hints that the Rams will be more aggressive in seeking a good rookie QB than we have thought?

That is exactly what it means, imo.
