WinnbradParticipant
Lately the Rams have been beating up on Tampa, but the Rams are on the road. We suck on the road.
I have no idea how this game will go. Does the O stop choking on it’s own vomit? Does Gurley have a decent day? Can our safeties cover the sidelines???
I’m lost on this one.
Based on the last few years against Tampa, I say the Rams win 22-17. It’ll be a nail biter. Lots of stupid penalties. Missed field goals. A few turnovers. Gurley breaks a big one. And our D wins the game.
WinnbradParticipantGood. Rams have needed to spruce up a bit.
I think he could give us two or three more
first downs per game.w
vPuns are a bannable offense.
🙂
WinnbradParticipanti like this guy. he plays with an energy that most of our wrs don’t…
and he can actually catch the ball.
Damn right.
Move the chains Spruce.
WinnbradParticipantUntil the Rams stop being one of the most penalized teams in the league, we’re going to continue to see drives like that. Every single Sunday.
That’s one of the reasons they’re 7-9.
WinnbradParticipantYeah, but 7-9 will feel so much better in southern Cal.
Because of the low humidity.
That’s what I was thinking, too. The low humidity.
I’ve only been to LA once in my life. Spent a week there, in January, for a music convention. Most of the women looked a lot like that. People had fruit trees growing in there backyards. In January! One guy had dozens of lime trees. And they were all ripe. He gave us a few, and we put’em in our gin.
All of the people were blonde and gorgeous. They all looked like they were related. It bothered me, but I couldn’t stop staring at them.
I left quietly.
And yes, if ya gotta go 7-9, LA is the place to do it. 7-9 in LA is like 14-2 in a regular city.
WinnbradParticipantThe offense is still terrible. 2 games, haven’t scored a TD.
An ugly win, but a win monetheless. And I’ll take any win over Seattle.9 penalties for 78 yards. No running game.
Still looks like some 7-9 bullshit to me.————
There is some room for improvement on offense
w
vStrictly speaking you guys are right. And I would not argue with the general premise.
But, still. Keenum was 60% for 219 yards and a 7.3 YPR with no INTs against last year’s 2nd ranked defense (1st ranked in points allowed). He had some clutch throws mixed in there. Britt had 94 yards on 6 catches.
I wouldn;t tell the GSOT Rams to climb down off the throne just yet, but, they showed some moxy and some promise for better.
Now for a zn edit:
All these
gamesWINS against Seattle look the sameAll true, but this O can’t make the playoffs. The D today played lights out. That won’t happen every game, and especially on road games. Fisher’s road record with this team is horrible.
My hope is that Spruce can be a Welker/Amendola type chain mover. We don’t need a great O, just an average O. Right now, we’re at the bottom of the league in offensive stats. Again.
And where the hell is Cunningham??? I was counting on him to move some chains, but he hasn’t been used at all.
We need Spruce and Cooper to step up.

WinnbradParticipantThe O is killing the D. No D can survive constant “3 and outs”, turnovers, and bad field position. The 85 Bears D couldn’t win with this offense.
I think the D is fine. Good even. But this O is the worst in the NFL right now.
We’ll see what happens.
WinnbradParticipantWe need Spruce healthy. That’s my main question with him. From what I saw in preseason he can catch the ball in traffic. We need that Welker/Amendola (in their prime) kind of receiver. Hell, I’d take any good WR at this point.
Is Welker no longer on the team?
No. They let him go. And even if he were, at this point in his career, he’s useless. We need the younger version of Welker, but with better hands. I’m hoping that’s Spruce. If he can stay healthy.

WinnbradParticipantIf the Hawks are smart, and they’re not, they’ll throw short quick passes all day against the Rams. The Hawks have VERY sure-handed WRs. They can move the chains, keep our D on the field, and kind of protect Wilson.
The game probably won’t go that way though. I’m guessing the Hawks will turn the ball over, try to take deep shots against our safeties (they’re not good), and Wilson will run all over the place because that’s what he always tries to do.
Oh, and let’s not forget the massive amounts of penalties both teams will incur.
Hopefully, this will be a very ugly game. The Rams can win those. 🙂
WinnbradParticipantBritt is a below average WR. Always has been. Unfortunately, he’s the best we’ve got.
The Rams have to hope that Cooper and Spruce become above average WRs. If Spruce can become a healthy version of Amendola we’d at least have a “chain mover” that could keep the O on the field more.
Higbee is an unknown to me. Kendricks is exactly what we’ve seen for the last two years. He’s never going to be a great pass catcher or playmaker, but he’s not bad.
Austin is Austin. He makes plays from time to time, but he will never be a WR. I agree with the “hybrid” label, and I like him, he makes plays.
I see nothing special in Marquez. If he can’t stand out among this WR corps, then he’s in trouble. This is a very low bar to clear.
September 15, 2016 at 5:49 am in reply to: Informal poll… will the Rams rebound against Seattle? #52959WinnbradParticipantRams 9, Hawks 7. The total penalties in this game will exceed the total points.
Enjoy!
WinnbradParticipantA sliver of sunlight in a dark and dreary world.

September 4, 2016 at 7:20 am in reply to: informal poll: Goff not starting, being #3 – disaster? not concerned? #52213WinnbradParticipantNot worried at all.
12 months from now, if Goff still looks this bad, then yes I’m worried.
WinnbradParticipantHey! Thanks ZN!
May 15, 2016 at 9:00 am in reply to: what do you think Goff's ceiling is compared to other Rams qbs? #44078WinnbradParticipantI have no idea what Goff’s ceiling is. The floor would be a Ryan Leaf/Jamarcus Russell type bust.
The ceiling? Heck, if Goff gets anywhere near Everett or Bulger in their prime then we’ve got a good QB. Hopefully for 10 years.
I’m excited to see him play in preseason. I want him to move the chains with a good running game, a good short passing game, and his feet. I think he can do it. He seems “shifty” in the pocket. Goff seems to have a lot of experience running for his life and making the best of busted plays. Good. He’s gonna need that.
WinnbradParticipantYes. The Goff pick had to happen.
At some point the Rams had to sell the farm to get a decent QB. I have no idea if Goff is that guy, but there were few other options. The cost for a potentially good QB is always going to be high in this league, and it will continue to rise.
I’m happy with Goff. His college play means so little in the pros, but what I’ve seen makes me think he’ll work hard and improve as best he can. That’s really all I’m hoping for.
If Goff can move the chains better than Foles or Keenum (that’s a low bar, but still…) then the Rams have a shot at the playoffs. And who knows after that?
April 30, 2016 at 8:46 am in reply to: long fat article: Michael Silver on how Rams decided on Goff with No. 1 pick #42906WinnbradParticipant“I love Carson Wentz,” Fisher said, “but Jared Goff is gonna be my quarterback. The way he gets the ball out — how he knows where to go with it and gets it to the receiver perfectly, in stride, in the tightest of windows — it’s a sight to behold. You look at the way the Patriots play, with Tom (Brady) just zipping the ball to (Julian) Edelman and (Danny) Amendola before you can even think about touching him, and that’s where football is today.
——————Think about what that sez about Fisher. Doesn’t sound like a guy
who is lost in the past or hasn’t kept up with the changes in offense, etc.w
vI like hearing that from Fisher. Let’s hope they can execute effectively.
April 28, 2016 at 6:45 pm in reply to: How quickly will the Rams lean on their No. 1-drafted QB? #42773WinnbradParticipantMy guess is it’ll be pretty darn quick. They really have no one else that’s even close to competent at moving the ball.
The only stat that really matters is points, and the Rams are god awful on offense.
I think the pressure to start the rookie will hit early. Especially if Kennum or Mannion lose 2 in a row to start the year.
WinnbradParticipantI just watched Gruden’s QB Camp. First was Wentz, second show was Goff.
I liked Wentz. I get the Big Ben comparison now. It’s fairly accurate. He looks like a lumberjack playing QB. Had a lot of enthusiasm on the show. I didn’t like the “ball upside down” thing he does sometimes, though.
I have no issues with Goff, but he just seems “not as tough”. Hell, I don’t know how to explain it. He’s probably another Tom Brady for all I know. Maybe I just don’t like the name Jared.
Anyway, both looked good.
Gruden, however, I could do without.
Here’s the upside down ball thingy.
WinnbradParticipantHe’s an old guy, i see.
http://www.turfshowtimes.com/2016/4/10/11403014/2016-nfl-free-agency-los-angeles-rams-donte-whitner-visitUgh, that pic. I can’t tell if Cook is either fumbling or dropping. Meh, he’d do both if he could.
April 16, 2016 at 8:02 am in reply to: Clayton says the move by the Rams was out of desperation #42066WinnbradParticipantAny team that doesn’t have a good QB is “desperate” to get one, imo. It’s the nature of the league now.
The Rams did exactly what they had to do. Trading for the first pick puts them in control of this draft and their destiny. No more waiting to see what other teams do, or making adjustments at the last minute during the draft. The Rams control the first pick. That’s the smart play imo.
WinnbradParticipantToo steep a price, imo. I don’t like it.
It’s a huge roll of the dice.
This trade would make sense if there was a projected Peyton Manning level QB in this draft.
But there isn’t so it doesn’t.
Yep. Agreed. It’s a huge price and a big risk. But what’s the alternative? 7-8 wins is all we’re going to get out of the current lineup, imo. Maybe, with some luck and health we win 9.
I think it’s a risk the Rams have to take.
On the other hand, I’m not 100% certain the Rams keep the #1 pick. Snead has been wheeling and dealing more than any GM in the league for the last few years. Anything could happen between now and the draft.
EDIT: Sorry. I screwed up the quote thingy.
- This reply was modified 8 years, 7 months ago by Winnbrad.
WinnbradParticipantThey gave up a lot, but at least they’re serious about finding a QB.
Keenum is not the answer, unless the question is whether we want to keep missing the playoffs.
The Rams don’t even need a great QB, just a good one. Hell, even above average would work. Somehow, this team has to get out of the bottom of the league in QB and WR stats. The passing game is pathetic. An upgrade at QB is the best solution to that problem.
The Rams are paying a steep price, but without a decent QB this defense, running game, and special teams will continue to win 7-8 games.
I guess we’ll see where this goes. Who knows? Maybe even more maneuvering will occur before the draft.
WinnbradParticipantMarch 20, 2016 at 12:15 pm in reply to: should Rams trade up for a qb? audio link, Colin Cowherd #40826WinnbradParticipantTo moving up? No.
Drafting more than one QB in this draft? Yes.
WinnbradParticipantExcellent.
WinnbradParticipantI don’t know. I don’t think Fisher is terrible. That’s a strong word for a coach that’s been around this many years and has had some success.
I think Fisher still underestimates the “new” league. He doesn’t seem to get the importance of good QB play and good WRs. This is a QB ONLY league now. A team has to have a good one. Even Seattle’s D, which has been great for a few years, wouldn’t go far without the solid playmaking ability of Wilson.
The one good QB Fisher had was Steve McNair, and he wasn’t great, but he was good enough. Coupled with a great running game and a good D, Fisher had success.
So unless we can find our own version of McNair we’re gonna remain a .500 team, imo.
———————————-
Well, i think Snisher ‘gets’ how important the QB-position is.
I think every single coach in the NFL understands that.
But a lot of teams just havent been able to find a Russell Wilson.
It seems to be very difficult to guess/evaluate which college
QBs are gonna be good in the NFL.Fisher bet on Bradford. A LOT of experts agreed
that Bradford would be good or very-good. He blew
out his knee twice, etc.
Then Fisher bet on Foles. A LOT of experts thought
Foles would be decent to good to very good.
Now Fisher made that call so he gets the ‘blame’ but
I dont think the problem is Fisher fails to understand
how important the QB position is.Not every coach gets to pick no.1 when Andrew Luck is
sitting thereI’m sure Fisher has weaknesses (and strengths) but
failing to understand the importance of
having a good QB, probly aint one of his weaknesses.…I’m not sure he’s the best guy to evaluate WRs, though.
I dunno.w
vI’m sure you’re right. Fisher is a smart guy with about 40 years of football experience. He’s forgotten more about football than I know. But at some point, Fisher, Snead, the powers that be, have to do whatever it takes to get a good QB. I don’t care if they reach in the draft. I don’t care if they overpay for a guy and give up too much money or draft picks. Whatever it takes to make it happen. The people in charge need to get it done.
Winning the super bowl is the goal. If the Rams start the season with Keenum/Foles/Mannion/and some project to be named later, we will not be moving towards that goal. The QB play from this team is simply not good enough to make the playoffs. Especially in the NFC West.
So I don’t know. I don’t know what it takes to get a decent QB, but the Rams need to pull out all the stops, throw money around, do a rain dance, whatever it takes to make that happen.
