Participantopportunities, whether it’s throwing the ball, catching the ball, faking the punt, getting the goal-line stop, the interception where we just missed it – the review – I think that had a big factor on the game, that was unfortunate.
Need to make those plays …….and when they did the ref stoles stole it
They need to make those plays … they did when they started 3-1
joemad
ParticipantThe Rams just don’t have the winning culture to seize the moment to make a play when given the chance.
I guess Fassel won’t be a candidate.
I hope Goff is ok

ParticipantI would’ve never guessed that Al was a Rams fan either….
He used to do play by play for the SF Giants in the mid 70’s…he came to SF from the The Big Red Machine, then the 1980 US Hockey team launched his career to go national.
He and Colinsworth are the last few national football guys that I can bear to listen too……Not many national broadcast teams that I like anymore…. too bad Bill Walton doesn’t do football games… He’s the last great national broadcaster that I absolutely love to listen to….
Charlie Joiner, Dick Enberg, Summerall, Gowdy, Trumpy, not many great national broadcast football guys anymore…. maybe Aikman….

ParticipantMort mentioned Harbaugh and Gruden.
I don’t think it will be either of them….but, of the 2 I would take Gruden over Harbaugh every day of the week. We wouldn’t even need the Russians to sway my vote on this one.
Harbaugh is very good. SF has won 6 games sine he left the 49ers.
Stanford was a mediocre team for 40 years before he won Orange Bowls and PAC 12 titles.

ParticipantIt’s not surprising that his players would come out strong for him. He brought most of them here. They’re HIS guys. And I will say one thing about Fisher:
It’s not surprising that his players would come out strong for him. He brought most of them here. They’re HIS guys. :
You nailed it….
Correct, these are Fisher’s guys and they can’t win………joemad
ParticipantI’m listening to Breer up there, and it sounds like he is implying that Fisher is putting Bailey and Mason down as personnel office failures which isn’t the read I read it, and which seems absurd.
Yeah I agree with that. Fisher did not put them down as personnel failures. That’s a complete misread.
I thought the same….. You can’t predict the incidents to Stedman and Mason….. They were very decent picks players
joemad
ParticipantNYPOST.COM
“We need to do a better job from a personnel standpoint. We’ve had some unfortunate things take place with some high picks in Stedman Bailey and Tre Mason and those kinds of things you don’t anticipate. But we’re moving forward.”
Fisher’s biggest supporter appears to be Rams COO Kevin Demoff, who hailed Fisher as a “leader of men” and gave him a pass for any struggles of the 4-8 team transitioning from St. Louis to Los Angeles. Coincidence or not, Kevin is the son of Martin Demoff, who is Fisher’s agent.
But it is unclear whether Fisher went too far with this week’s comments.
“It pissed me off because I knew it was meant as a shot,” a source told MMQB.com. “You see it under that umbrella — ‘We need to do a better job in personnel.’ OK, but you want everyone to think that you have full control. You can’t have it both ways, and it can’t always be the talent. Look at the roster, 2012 to now. In ’12, Jeff did a masterful job with what he was given. But we’ve gotten more talent, and we’ve gotten worse.”
The Rams have been the picture of mediocrity in Fisher’s four-plus seasons there: 7-8-1, 7-9, 6-10, 7-9 and 4-8 this year. The extension that Fisher signed this week had been agreed upon much earlier, but had not surfaced publicly until Sunday. The timing is awkward as the Rams have been in a free fall since a 3-1 start and calls for his job have reach a fevered pitch.
“It’s always good to have healthy tension between the coach and GM, but that shouldn’t hurt the team or cause finger-pointing,” another club source told the website. “Over five years, [Tuesday] was the first time you saw public comments. That should never happen. … The organization has given them a long leash. And given that they’ve had time, they have to win, and they have to be able to work

ParticipantI’m with you I was being goofy……..The Lakers are the NBA brand of LA…… I too want the Rams to be the only show in town….
If SD doesn’t work for the Chargers…..STL needs a team…..
joemad
ParticipantMy fear is the Rams will become the Clippers to the Chargers’ Lakers.
That’s fine with me… The Lakers have been a mess and haven’t won more than 27 games per season since Dr. Buss passed away… The Clippers have been a consistent playoff team the past 5 seasons…..
But watch out……, the Lakers are currently better than Kronke’s Nuggets….
joemad
ParticipantBut at the same time, people keep telling me yes you can with with those conditions, and then can’t name anyone who has.
Here is the thing… these are Fisher’s conditions.
We give him a pass for the 1st 3 seasons, but for the past 2 seasons, these are HIS conditions.
I follow a lot of Ram fans on social media… a lot of outlets, google alerts, FB twitter anything…. I can read…etc.
ZN, you are the only person in the Rams world that justifies Fisher….
I don’t recall reading anyone in the past month that wants to keep Fisher.

ParticipantThe Rams won a Super Bowl with a back up QB as did the Patriots . Don’t give me reasons my argument isn’t valid don’t argue against my argument state your case why you believe he should get more time and conform to the extremely narrow tolerances you set for the other side.
exactly, the Rams have not had a back up for 2 years…..
They traded for Nick Foles to replace Sam Bradford as “their” starter.
The Rams went out of their way to bring Case Keenum back to camp to compete and win the starting job.
Foles was BENCHED last year and lost his starting job…..
That’s the role of coaching, to measure your talent and get the team ready for the next level of play.
JEFF FISHER HAS DEMONSTRATED THAT HE DOES NOT HAVE THAT ABILITY TO GET HIS TEAM IN POSITION TO PLAY AT THE NEXT LEVEL.
1) PENALTIES and LACK OF EXECUTION AT CRUCIAL TIMES HAS BEEN THE ROOT PROBLEM…. THAT IS LACK COACHING…….

ParticipantYou have first-round draft picks that don’t pan out that sets any team back, and that’s what happened to us.

Holt is right…. That was a great team, for 3-5 years they were favorites to win almost every single game that they played…

I do not believe that defense was the only defense that could have won with the GSOT offense.
Can’t take that team defense for granted….
the final score of the NFC Championship was 11-5.
That defense was great.
#2 in total points allowed 1999.
#1 against the run
17 sacks for Kevin Carter.
The 2001 defense was ranked 6th and couldn’t win with the GSOT.

Meanwhile—there are no examples anyone can name of any coach winning when they had YEARS worth of no qb plus bigtime OL issues. That is because, I think, no coach CAN win under those circumstances.
That hasn’t been the circumstance in the past 2 years.
The man himself said that in August, he has the talent for “11-5”
Fisher’s quote did not end at “7-9 bullshit”, he said HIS team is better than “10-6″… maybe it is, but Fisher isn’t getting the most out of his team.
ZN, this is not 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014….. this is 2015 and 2016. The time for 11-5 is now. HE HAS LOST 6 OF HIS LAST 7 GAMES. FUCK THIS GUY!!!!!
joemad
ParticipantThe Rams had a back up QB, but so did some of these opponents.
So those opponents were starting back-up caliber qbs in 50 of 73 games? And in the last 4 years, including this, that’s 50 of 57.
On top of having to repair an entire OL cause of injuries?
What coach do we know of who did well under THOSE conditions. Not starting a back-up for a few games. But saddled with a back-up caliber qb plus either a broken or inexperienced OL the majority of the time?
Can we think of anyone at all in the entire history of the NFL?
Heck Martz did fine with Jamie Martin in 2002 but that was just a few games. What if the OL had deep issues AND they started Martin in more than 3/4ths of those games back then, going for a few years?
Let’s talk about the last 2 years………
1) The RAMS made a fucking trade to get Nick Foles. he should not be considered a back up… That is a decision that this management team made that contributes to the culture of losing.
2) Teams have won with back ups and bad lines.. there was a reason why Warner broke his hand because the line was a sieve and back up Bulger came in and won.
Kapernick was a back up to replace Alex Smith that was concussed, Cassel was a back up behind not so perfect lines.
Bottom line is this:
1) Fisher cannot get the troops to win games in the 4th qtr in the past 2 seasons with HIS starting QB.2) Case was HIS starter, Foles was HIS starter. Fisher and the RAMS went out of their way to get Case back on the roster to compete with Foles and Goff.
3) Fisher does not have what it takes to create a culture that is conducive to winning. No discipline, no execution, no poise in the 4th qtr… He is a gimmick special teams coach, the Music City Miracle was the reason he made his only Super Bowl. Had the Rams executed in the Red Zone in Super Bowl 34, (blown snap hold, dropped Holt Pass missed kick by Wilkens the game would’ve been a blow out.
“Air McNair’s” offense punted almost every time they touched the ball.Yes, defense wins championships, but offense wins games… Fisher has proven that he is not this guy..
75% OF HIS COACHING CAREER IS WATCHING THE PLAYOFFS FROM HOME.
joemad
ParticipantThe last thing I would ever do is judge a coach by his record.
Canton awaits him.
Good grief.
I agree that records don’t tell you the whole story.
WHY does a team have its record? If you don’t ask that IMO you don;t really know.
So for example, only one coach in the history of the NFL has won after a team moved (Flores, 82).
That doesn’t count?
I think there is a reason why Gene Stallings, Mike White, Rich Brooks, Frank Kush did not coach at the NFL level after their moving gig… Did the franchise move for each of these coaches affect their ability to get hired as re-treads? I doubt it…..
Look, I get it, in most cases, healthy sustainable franchises do not move… Fisher inherited a mess of a team and I get the injuries to Bradford, but at the same time, Fisher has not shown a consistent ability to win a game in the 4th qtr… he has had plenty of chances the past 2 seasons…
Miami, Carolina, Giants, Detroit, Buffalo were all winnable games this season
Last year:, Washington, Steelers, GB, Vikings, Ravens, and SF all winnable games
Sure, The Rams had a back up QB, but so did some of these opponents.
we are seeing the same god damn results in penalties, poor discipline and lack of poise for crunch time execution….. this is the Jeff Fisher culture that the Rams have…
-
Jeff Fisher has yet to demonstrate the leadership skills to implement a winning culture
… it’s apparent that Fisher just doesn’t have the skill set to do that…….

Participantmy reaction to the Saints game.
1) The turf in the Super Dome is almost as ugly as it was in TWA dome… it looks like garbage… it’s painful on the eyes to see that carpet….
2) I used to admire Sean Payton, but he’s a bit of dick for running up the score and celebrating on the sidelines after each TD….I understand Williams may have thrown him under the bus for bounty gate, but fuck him……..
3) Drew Brees is underrated…. Brees, Russell Wilson, Matt Ryan, Carr and Aaron Rodgers are fun QBs to watch play….
4) Goff surprised me….. he looked good….

ParticipantGOFF IS THE REAL DEAL
In the spirit of fairness and full disclosure, a lot was said about Goff’s lack of NFL readiness in this space during training camp and preseason games. Simply put, the Goff learning curve going from Cal to the NFL was more demanding than imagined.
And that was pointed out by many.
That said, he’s grown by leaps and bounds since, and that progress was obvious while watching him during practice as the days, weeks and months unfolded.
So it wasn’t a major surprise to see him slinging it Sunday against the Saints, primarily in the first half as he ripped them for 167 yards and three touchdowns — including a gorgeous 24-yard pass to Tavon Austin for a first-quarter touchdown and an expertly handled two-minute drive to finish the half with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Lance Kendricks.
The sample size was small, but there is no doubting what we saw. Goff has an NFL-caliber arm, terrific feet to extend plays, touch, accuracy and a natural feel for the position.
In the big picture, that will turn out to be more important than the final score Sunday or even the Rams’ record to end the season.
“I don’t think there are any moral victories. For me, I felt a lot more comfortable in my second game,” Goff said. “From my experience, I just felt better out there and was just able to see it a lot better. The game slowed down for me a lot more today.
“But at the same time, I just wanna win. I don’t want to be out here saying I’m happy with what we did, or what I did, or anything in between; cause I’m really not if we don’t win. And that’s the bottom line.”Goff did look pretty good out there.
1) The TD pass to Tavon…. 3rd and 7 in front of 73K very loud N.O. fans, Goff gets the play clock down to :01 dropped a nice dime to Austin… that was very cool… a very nice pass indeed. I think we can’t underestimate this play for a rookie….. he went 3-4 on the opening drive in a loud dome…
2) TD # 2 to Britt…. Rams strike quick after the Bress T.O., a nice quick slant to Britt in stride to allow YAC TD.
3) TD #3… it’s 28-14, momentum shifted to N.O. Rams take the ball with 2 1/2 minutes left in the half….Goff goes 5 for 7 on the drive.. (I’m not sure why the Rams and Goff spiked the ball on 1st down with 3 timeouts left on that drive…….. anyway Goff hits Kendricks in stride for the TD pass on the play following the spike……….in that same drive, he had some very nice passes to Marquez and Kendricks….
I think what set the tone for the 2nd half was the Saints 1st play from scrimmage, the 60+ yard run, then the Rams have the Saints on a 3rd and 17 after 2 good defensive plays and Saints burn the Rams with screen for the TD…..
it’s too bad the Rams couldn’t covert some 3rd downs to counter in the 3rd qtr… just fell a bit short before the Saints snowballed the Rams…..
I think Goff is smarter than people give him credit for and looks very very calm….
Goff looked very encouraging….

ParticipantI do my best to do 105 push ups per day and walk 2 miles.
————
105 ? Wny 105 ?
Thats a lot, btw. How many can you do in a row?
I used to be a big ‘pull up’ guy. I liked pull ups. But now, at my age, its tough to get my elbow joints to go along with pullups. But I’m still gonna try and see if i can get my body to go along with them.
I rewatched a dvd of ‘Pumping Iron’ with Arnold and Ferrigno a while back. On the special features they kinda hinted that a lot of the drama was kinda ‘created’ just to add some pizzazz to the film.
w
vsomeday i’ll add a pull up bar…I’m not sure I can actually do one right now…..my elbows used to get sore and make noises but the push ups actually helped over time….
I do 3 sets of 35 push ups…… I’ll throw in squats, lunges, plank, chair dips for the triceps etc as time permits ….. but as a minimum I do my best to fit in the push ups daily…. push ups can be done almost anywhere……….BTW, I used to do 150 per day (3 sets of 50) but that stopped when I “stroked out” in 2007, ……… when I started playing softball again a few years I re-started the push up routine…….
I also make a priority to walk 30 min in the AM that includes 5 sets of stairs on the walk……….
