I listened to a bit of the game on Game Pass radio, saw a few highlights on NFL network, but decided against watching the replay. Too depressing.

I too listened to the game, but I just rewatched it…

    Both defenses played great….

Rams need to relearn how to win these ugly games… they’d be reining Super Bowl champs right now.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Los Angeles Rams: A History of the Rivalry
In the NFL’s 100th season, a look at the Steelers and Rams, now and through history.
    * By cassidy977 on November 9, 2019 6:30 am

With all the NFL 100th Season lists, I’ve been thinking about the histories of various Steeler rivalries. So every week for the rest of the year, I’ll post a retrospective preview, considering the two teams and setting up for the upcoming game.

    2019 Comparison
    Current Records:
    Pittsburgh : 4-4 (2nd AFC North)
    L.A. Rams : 5-3 (3rd NFC West)
    2019 Off/Def Comparisons:
    ………………………………… Overall ……….. Pass ……….. Rush ……….. Score
    Pittsburgh Offense……..291 (28th)…….202 (27th)…….88 (26th)…….22.0 (18th)
    L.A. Rams Defense…….338 (12th)…….241 (19th)…….97 (11th)…….21.8 (15th)

    L.A. Rams Offense……..384 (10th)……..287 (5th)……..97 (20th)…….26.8 (8th)
    Pittsburgh Defense……..335 (11th)……..228 (10th)….107 (16th)…….21.1 (13th)
    Player in Common (current):
Mark Barron (Rams 2014-18 / signed with Steelers 2019)
Barron was brought in as a hybrid ILB/Safety this offseason. His expected role was reduced when the team also drafted Devin Bush. Barron has been a mixed bag but Bush is turning into a star. As a starter, Barron was probably not what the Steelers needed; as a backup who logs a lot of minutes, Barron looks like a decent pickup.

Jerome Bettis (Rams 1993-95, 1st Rd, 10 overall / traded to Pittsburgh 1996 along with a 3rd round pick, for Steelers 2nd and 4th rounders)
Bettis had been rookie of the year with the Rams, and rushed for 3091 yards in three years there. When he went to Pittsburgh he became the centerpiece of the Steelers offense for the next decade, rushing for 10,571 yards and winning accolades up and down, including Comeback Player of the Year, Walter Payton Man of the Year, four Pro-Bowls, two All Pro seasons, and a Super Bowl. He is now in the Hall of Fame.
(Also notable in this category: Kevin Greene. That’s a pretty good pipeline between the Rams and Steelers in the 90s…)

    Would-Be Rival?
The Rams were founded in Cleveland in 1936, eleven years before the Browns launched in the AAFC. They stayed in Cleveland until 1945, winning the NFL title in their last year in Ohio, then moved to Los Angeles. This was never a legitimate rivalry because the Steelers (originally Pirates) were so uncompetitive in those years, but also because the teams so rarely played. The Rams led the series in these years 0-2-1.

    All-Time Series:
    Rams : 15 – 9 – 2
    Playoff Series:
    Steelers : 1 – 0 (Super Bowl XIV)
    Current Streak:
    Steelers : 3w
    Longest Streak:
    Steelers : 3 games (2007-15 and 1980-84)
    L.A. Rams : 6 games (1961-78)

    First game:
    December 4, 1938
    Pittsburgh Pirates – 7
    Cleveland Rams – 13
Cleveland Rams vs Pittsburgh Pirates. If the score is any indication, this one was not a barn-burner. The Pirates (soon to become Steelers) finished the year 2-9. The Rams (a few years from moving out of Cleveland) finished 4-7. The game was also played at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans for some reason. The Pirates were led by legendary player-coach (and great nickname) Johnny “Blood” McNally, and featured rookie phenom and future Supreme Court Justice, Byron “Whizzer” White, who led the league in rushing and scrimmage yards that season (as well as interceptions thrown). White caught a touchdown in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough on this day, unfortunately, and the Pirates fell to the Rams in the season’s final week.

    Most Recent game:
    September 27, 2015
    Pittsburgh – 12
    St.L Rams – 6
This game was a mess. It was Jeff Fisher’s last year coaching the Rams (who would finish under .500 for the ninth consecutive season). The turf in St. Louis caught fire before the game. Josh Scobee was still kicking for the Steelers. And in the end, Ben Roethlisberger was injured (forcing us to watch several weeks of Mike Vick). You might remember Ben’s injury for its effect on a certain unemployed Halloween clown, who posted the second-best receiving season in NFL history, and almost certainly would have broken several single-season records if Big Ben had stayed healthy.
Fun trivia note: the Ram who injured Roethlisberger? Mark Barron.

    Biggest Game in the Series:
January 20, 1980 (Super Bowl XIV)
    Pittsburgh – 31
    L. A. Rams – 19
The Steelers were a dying juggernaut at this point, making one more run at the title. The Rams were 9-7 upstarts playing over their heads. That’s the way it looks on paper anyway. The Rams were actually one of the most successful teams of the 1970s, who just never got past the Cowboys and Vikings. 1979 was their seventh consecutive playoff year, but their first Super Bowl.
This game was closer than the score indicates, as the Steelers, famously, trailed 19-17 in the fourth quarter after the Rams completed a halfback option for the go-ahead points. Then Terry Bradshaw hit John Stallworth with an iconic 73 yard touchdown for the lead. A Jack Lambert interception gave the ball back to the Steelers, and Bradshaw hit Stallworth with a 45 yard gain to set up Franco Harris with the icing points.

Bradshaw took home his second consecutive MVP, though you could make a case for Stallworth as well. It was the last hurrah for the most powerful dynasty in modern NFL history.
    Other Memorable Games:
    December 20, 2007
    Pittsburgh – 41
    St.L Rams – 24
A blowout late in Mike Tomlin’s rookie season, this game is mostly only memorable because Willie Parker, who was leading the league in rushing, broke his leg in the second half. Parker’s game was predicated on speed, and though he recovered and helped the Steelers to a Super Bowl victory the next year, he was never really the same back again.

    December 20, 1975
    Pittsburgh – 3
    L. A. Rams – 10
There simply aren’t that many significant Steelers/Rams tilts. This dreadful-looking contest is significant only because it is the final loss the 1975 Steelers suffered before winning out and recording their second consecutive Super Bowl victory.

i think 12-4… McVay doesn’t lose to a team twice.. The Rams can beat SF in Dec.. it also depends what SF will be playing for…. an undefeated season, but if SF has a loss (no undefeated season) with the division and bye locked for Christmas, SF might not give a damn about that game in Dec….

any given Sunday, but I think the Ravens and Cowboys are the toughest team(s) on their remaining sch…. J

help me understand the frustration with Rams fans over this game?????

The Rams only allowed 10 points….all in the 2nd qtr, thus the Bengals posted goose eggs in 3 qtrs of football.

Kooper Cup amassed 220 receiving yards.

    Rams 53% on 3rd down.

Goff 146 passer rating and jumps to NFL league leader in passing yards

All this after no LA home cooking…. from ATL to the UK….

it’s ok to play prevent defense when you’re up by 14!!! BTW, the Rams beat the 13.5 spread….

i realize that Cincy is 0-7…. the Seahawks barely beat them by 1, where howdy doody Dalton passed for >400 yards in Seattle. The Bengals should’ve beaten Arizona and have played the Ravens tough..

The Bengals are not the Washington Generals and the Rams don’t have Curley Neal nor Meadowlark…

Any given Sunday, except for yesterday it was another win outside of LA for McVay. How many road wins is that for McVay and the Rams?

how about that flea flicker to Kupp? Was that cool or what?

i had Sunday Tix from 1997 through 2015… i switched to Gamepass in 2016.

Early technology with Gamepass (GP) sucked, but it has vastly improved the past 3 seasons. I send feedback to GP several times per season and they respond very well.

It was a tough adjustment at first to not having Sunday Tix, but I’m no longer tied to the TV to watch football games on Sundays… I can go out fishing or watch the kids play ball while listening to the Rams game live on audio via GP…. yesterday i heard the 2nd qtr using the Falcons broadcast radio feed via GP

you can also mirror your smart phone or tablet to watch on your smart TV or get an old Apple TV unit (usually $40 on craigs) to leverage the NFL app with Gamepass on Apple TV

BTW, check out the Dofu Sports app as another alternative to Reddit or other stream sites.

“The reality is NFL football games come down to little, tiny plays here or there throughout game,” veteran tackle Andrew Whitworth said. “In the year before or even in 2017, we found a way to execute those little moments and get the momentum back, or make a big play that got us in the game or to take a lead and get control of the game.

“Right now, we’re just missing those plays. And when you do, it all just kind of piles on you.”

bingo… Rams rolled in 2017… in 2018 they got some breaks in closer games… this year, they’re not getting the breaks….

ATL not playing well this year, but 10:00 AM body clock for the Rams in ATL next week….. won’t be easy.

    I’m not demoralized….

I look forward to a rebound this season and the next

8 penalties at critical times forced Goff in many 3rd and longs… Niners took advantage and knew when to bring the pass rush.

A penalty also cost the Rams a muffed punt.

The failed 4th a goal was a turning point, but I thought the fumble to open the 2nd half was a bigger turning point.

The lack of practice as you noted the past 10 days was also a factor… No Gurley and Talib either

    I’m not demoralized. i can’t wait till Sunday…

Rams need to relearn on how to convert on 3rd.

Rams need to grind out a yard or 2 on 4th.

SF played good defense today and penalty free.

Too many penalties for LA disrupted any continuity…

    Rams will be back 12-4

Though VB’s point is, it’s the last time in the Coliseum. Both teams had winning records in 2001, but that was with the Rams in St. Louis.

They also met with winning records in the 80s but the Rams home games were played in what is now The Big A in Anaheim.

correct, Rams and SF were both competitive in the 1980s…..

BTW, the last time SF started 4-0 was 1990… they ended up going 10-0 before losing their first game… to Jim Everett’s 3-7 Anaheim Rams…

Let’s hope that the Rams kick their asses this Sunday…. but their defensive is very good… great defensive line and Richard Sherman is still a great and smart defensive back with very good hands… folks forget that he was a WR at Stanford for 2 years….

i’m not sure that the lack of Gurley carries last week was/is entirely because of Gurley’s knee… if Gurley’s knee is that bad today, i’m not sure that Gurley would say that “he don’t call the plays bro”

The Rams only ran the ball 11 times between both Gurley and Malcom Brown last Sunday vs TB. Both RBs are averaging 4.5 YPC, that’s in Zeke, Alvin Kamera territory… not great, but not bad… 4.5 is the industry standard….

I think McVay passed like crazy because:

    1) The Rams fell behind 21-0 early…..
    2) TB’s pass defense hasn’t been great this year, I think they’re ranked 31 today…
    3) Sullivan and Saffold’s replacement need to get up to speed….

That game was like an old AFC 1980’s pass shootout and the play calling got out of hand for McVay…

I remember looking at the scoreboard and the Rams had -2 rushing yards right before half… they just weren’t running the ball to either Brown nor Gurley.

Wade and the defense seems to be getting a free pass this game……. 62% 3rd down conversions that Tampa Bay had will win the Bucs a lot of football games…..

sometimes you have a defensive let down against a seasoned coach like Arians….he burned the defense with good play calling…

The TD bomb to a wide Evans earlier in the 4th caused a grand fan exodus from the stadium

62% 3rd down conversion rate for TB

Arians is a good coach… he exposed the middle of the rams Pass defense all day Bucs had WR’s wide open in the middle field all day….

Once again Rams gave up on run way too early…

Back to Back NFC West opponents the next 2 games

Loser of this Thursday’s game will be in 3rd place…

Chargers negotiated a pretty good deal….. they have very list risk and accountability on the stadium:

    URL = https://www.voiceofsandiego.org/topics/sports/nine-things-to-know-about-stan-kroenkes-chargers-predicament/

Every few months, a friend of mine asks me to explain the Chargers’ deal in Los Angeles. The move remains a cultural and economic enigma. People can’t stop calling them the San Diego Chargers – just Sunday, the referee managing the game charged a timeout to “San Diego.” This regularly occurring flub inevitably produces insta-takes along the lines of “Wow, the team is still struggling to gain traction in Los Angeles.”

Three years after they moved, “The Chargers” remain more of a theory than a franchise representing a city.

The theory is that these foibles will be distant memories someday after the Spanos family has built a Los Angeles institution, along with unfathomable intergenerational wealth, decades into the future. The theory is that the NFL is more of a media company than it is a football league. The Chargers are just a character in the main show. They don’t need that many live, local customers for now; a bit part in the national show is good enough.

This week, Los Angeles reporter Fred Roggin, reported that the Rams, the Chargers’ partners, are currently very perturbed characters in the show. They may be a better football team with more fans and Super Bowl expectations, but they are really mad at Chargers owner Dean Spanos for not contributing enough financially to their stadium effort. Specifically, the complaint is the Chargers aren’t raising enough revenue from personal seat licenses.

Personal seat licenses, or PSLs, are the things you must buy if you want to purchase season tickets.

This was very amusing to me. When the news of the world and San Diego overwhelms me, this drama pops up like a notification in Netflix that my favorite comedy has just posted a new episode. Yes. Yes, I will watch it. Ashley, beloved wife, did we buy cheese popcorn this week?

When Roggin finally got around to revealing his scoop, there wasn’t much new beyond this: Rams owner Stan Kroenke is frustrated. Sad face. But it probably has more to do with the cost of the stadium he is building in Inglewood, which has now almost doubled to $5 billion.

Five. Billion. Dollars. That’s so much money. And no, that doesn’t include the surrounding development.

The Chargers, much disparaged as future “renters” in the stadium, do not have to worry about exploding stadium costs, though. They can sit back and watch Kroenke try to figure out how to manage it all with some amusement just like you and me.

Here are the nine facts you need to know to properly appreciate the predicament Kroenke faces:

(Hat tip to Nathan Fenno of the Los Angeles Times, for gathering some of these points years ago. I filed them away and update them for just this kind of moment.)

    1) The stadium was projected to cost $2.6 billion. Fortunately for Inglewood taxpayers, it’s a private deal so they’re not on the hook. But that also means we don’t know exactly how much it is costing. Reports have it at more than $5 billion.

    2) To play there, the Chargers will pay $1 per year as part of a 20-year lease. The lease has TWO 10-year options the Chargers exclusively control. So, 40 years.

    3) Both teams keep revenue from the games they host: tickets, parking, sponsorships, concessions, advertising, etc.

    4) Each team took out a $200 million loan from the NFL. That $400 million goes to stadium construction.

    5) For big-ticket items – naming rights, personal seat licenses, fancy corporate suites – each team gets an 18.75 percent cut. Remainder goes toward construction.

    6) Neither team is required to sell PSLs. They can charge whatever they want.

    7) Kroenke gets all non-football revenues. The Chargers have no role in the development of the 298 acres around the stadium.

    8) The Rams bear all cost overruns with the stadium construction.

      9) The NFL relocation fee is $550 million (or $650 million over 10 years) starting this year. With interest rates low, they can refinance some of it.

The fun items in that list are Nos. 4 and 5. The Chargers get 18.75 percent of the money they raise selling PSLs to fans who want to buy season tickets. Check that line again: Neither team is required to sell PSLs and they can charge whatever they want for them if they do.

The Chargers, when they sell PSLs, only get $18.75 for every $100. The other $81.25 goes to stadium costs, which means it goes to Kroenke. Thus, you can see why Kroenke wants the Chargers to sell PSLs.

The Chargers, however, unlike Kroenke, do not care AT ALL about how much the stadium costs to build. They bear none of the risk. So, why would they waste effort selling PSLs at a high price? Every dollar a fan spends on a seat license is a dollar he won’t spend on tickets, of which Spanos gets 100 percent.

Sure enough, last year, we got news they weren’t charging much at all for PSLs.

Kroenke is a mega-billionaire and will be fine but he finds himself in a predicament. Not only has the cost of the palace he’s building soared, but the city and county of St. Louis have been effectively advancing a major lawsuit against him and the NFL for moving the Rams and breaking a lease. Kroenke must pay all the legal bills for the league.

(The Chargers got the city of San Diego to promise never to file a lawsuit like this, and San Diego has dutifully obliged.)

Kroenke will replace San Diego taxpayers as Spanos’ landlords but to a far greater degree. Like a kind of reluctant venture capitalist, he is floating the Spanos’ family enterprise and their multi-decade theory. Kroenke’s stadium is like one of those startup accelerators for the Chargers. Except the accelerator isn’t for an exciting, disruptive new technology conceived by young brainiacs. It’s for the Chargers.

Those are all the reasons Kroenke may be on edge.

We, San Diego taxpayers, should send a card to Kroenke. It could read something like: We feel you. We used to float that family too. Pretty soon, like we did, you’re going find yourself buying thousands of Chargers tickets every week to help them pay the bills and you won’t even really understand how you ended up doing it. When that time comes, we’re here for you.

The Spanos family made a fortune selling bologna sandwiches to migrant workers and then building homes. But they’re making a retirement as legendary tenants.

McVay and the Rams put together some good drives in the 3rd

But they need to pound the ball on 3rd and short

Saints fans tend to forget that after the no call:

    1) The Saints took a 3 point lead with less than 2 min to play

    2) The Saints failed to protect the lead

    3) The Saints won the coin toss in OT.

    4) Brees only completion in OT was an INT.

    5) Greg the Leg sent the Rams to the Super Bowl.

    Honorable mention:
    1) the Saints were not flagged in that game until the 3rd qtr.
    2) No flag was thrown when Goff was face masked on the game tying drive late in the 4th qtr.
    3) Sean Payton is an ass.

The Rams are now 14-3 on the road during the regular season under Sean McVay.

that is remarkable….. 15 – 3 if you count the AZ game in London……

    three road losses:

Vikings, Bears and Saints…. all were winnable games and the Rams bounced back from each of those tough losses….

Yes indeed zn… good road win on the east coast…

Other than Special teams gaffes team looked good

Jo Jo Natson’s punt return inside the 5 was stupid

And blocked punt and missed kicked (thanks Marcus Peters for the dumb penalty on the pick..

    The Saints are marching in…

    I love the Rams.
