In some categories the Rams offense came in higher than the Jax defense has allowed on average. So on average, with Jax the opposing qb’s qb rating is 60; Goff’s against them was 86.2 . Their YPA allowed is 4.5; Goff got 5.9 (against anyone else that would be considered bad). Jax gets 1.7 Ints a game; Rams threw none.
i understand all that and yet i think goff and the passing game could have done better. and that’s not even putting them down. that’s all while understanding that the jags have maybe the best pass defense in the league. i mean they just shut down roethlisberger and le’veon bell. although i grant that goff was largely protected by mcvay unlike ben who got exposed big time by the game plan.
but goff and that cast have not had much time together. the oline 2/5 of which have new teammates have only had 6 games to really gel. goff has 6 games in this new system and 13 overall – 5 and 12 going into the game. his 3 best receivers weren’t even on the team last year. a rookie tight end and a second year tight end. how could i not think they could be better?
so that’s also exciting to me. this does not give the feeling to me of that linehan team that went 4-2. that had an offense whose main stars at receiver were holt and bruce who were at or near the end of their careers. bulger i think was a qb who had pretty much peaked at that point. jackson was the one young star with potential.
on defense pretty much the same deal. mostly a veteran defense without any blue chip talent. guys who were near the end of their careers or young guys without the potential i believe these rams have.
i’m feeling pretty good about this team, but mostly i’m excited by the prospect of watching goff and this young offense develop. just hope that goff can stay healthy and that they can adequately replace whitworth when the time comes which will be no easy task.
I agree, and its not so much a knock on bradford as it is noticing that Goff has some special skills.
yeah. i think bradford was a good prospect and is a good player when healthy.
i think goff can be at least a notch above him. i don’t think his arm is quite as strong as bradford’s. but he’s got better pocket presence. it remains to be seen how good goff is at processing information as it’s happening on the football field. as far as being able to digest an nfl offense, i can’t really tell, but they both seem like smart guys.
This offense is gonna be so much fun to watch, when it grows up.
yeah. they’re all young and will be peaking at around the same time. the only thing i worry about is how they replace whitworth. sully too. but especially whitworth. i’m thinking they’re going to need one in 2019.
I just wonder why his name never comes up when they talk about great linebackers around the league.
i don’t think he’s great. i think it’s more a matter of how you replace him.
cornerback is stronger in the draft and i think there are pass rushers will be available as well in the draft.
inside backers as versatile as ogletree aren’t. and by the time his contract runs out they can sign other guys.
