here are various rankings for goff.

i don’t know how today’s game will affect rankings but here goes.

    pff – 87.8 (4th best)

    football outsiders – 250 (5th best)

    passer rating – 111.0 (6th best)

    total qbr – 78.1 (5th best)

still early in the season. i’ll be interested to see where he is after the vikings game and again at the halfway point.

but wow. good start. i just hope he keeps improving as the season goes on. he did start out hot last season the first three games and then slowed down a little before picking it back up.

on the other hand, beyond the numbers. and just by the eye test. he looks better. and that would make sense. other teams have a whole year’s worth of tape on goff in the mcvay offense. defenses should be better prepared. yet he’s still producing. if he can keep this up, people will have to give him more respect. not that it matters or anything.

Jared Goff is the first @RamsNFL QB to…

✔️Throw for 350+ in consecutive games since @MarcBulger10 in 2004-05.
✔️Pass for 941 yards through first three games since @kurt13warner in 2001 (957).

not as impressive now as it was back then.

    but still good.

just loved the way gurley iced that game at the end.

and then to top it off brown came in and pounded them for good measure. that’s some running game the rams got there!

on the other hand the lack of an edge rush really has me worried. my only hope is ogbo can contribute in the second half of the season. yikes!

honestly that really sucks. never would want to wish bodily harm on any player. i did wish an atomic wedgie on garoppolo. possibly some facial acne that wouldn’t go away.

but it sucks for him to have to go through this.

seriously hope he makes it back so the rams can beat the living tar out of him and the niners. i’m thinking of you jimmy!

could still be out for weeks. maybe more.

They are getting nothing from their edge rushers

yeah. could be this team’s undoing.

important game. well. not a crucial game. but it will be telling.

lose and the rams become just another team in non-rams fans’ eyes.

barely win and the rams, and they’ve taken care of business. one of among several contenders.

blow the chargers out, and the hype machine just went over the top. media will be fawning over this team. opposing teams’ fans will seethe.

does it matter? should we care? will it even be accurate?

no. but i do care. i admit. a little bit. i’m a petty man.

also. i’m nervous. i fear that the rams’ outside pass rush will be exposed this game. likewise, i worry that goff doesn’t get the wide open pockets he enjoyed the first two games and regresses a little bit.

i’ll really just be happy with any kind of win.

    ….

but i wouldn’t mind seeing a convincing “statement win”.

I rate Goff in the top 15. There are probably less than 14 QBs I like better. He will get better. I think his arm has gotten stronger since college. I give a lot of credit to his team and his coach.

i agree with this. for one season. for the next ten years? i’d rank him higher.

but yeah for one season. i’d rate him top 15.

    Speed_Kills

they didn’t draft Everett to not target him.

I talked to Tory Holt on NFL radio today and he agreed with me and he also said that prior to the injury the Rams defense could not cover Everett. That was a quote.

    i hope somehow it’s true.

Rams defensive lineman Michael Brockers praised Chargers but said there’s no battle for the city: “No, not at all. I still think of them as San Diego. I still say San Diego Chargers.”

    that’s a subtle dig no?

or am i reading it wrong?

I wonder if Goff can ever be as good as Kurt?

    w
    v

I think he can be better. It’s possible IMO.

Not by a lot but still.

Goff has some refined things to his game Kurt didn’t have.

i don’t know how good he can be.

is he a system qb? i guess he is. i mean he’s not a transcendent qb in the mold of an aaron rodgers.

he’s going to be reliant on a strong supporting cast to be successful. but that’s probably true of most qbs in the league. shoot even warner needed that.

very few qbs who can truly carry a team by himself actually exist. those are true unicorns. although mahomes might be that. but even then he’s also got a stellar supporting cast along with a very good head coach/playcaller in reid.

I’ll be curious to see how Rivers attacks this D.

i’m guessing no quick passes, so the pass rush is going to get tested.

this is where the d can really start to carve out a reputation. or fall back down to earth.

Goff is the ‘best deep ball thrower’ he’s ‘ever seen’ ?

    Wow.

    w
    v

he said in college. he did say he thinks he can get there in the pros but is not there yet.

and waldman has made similar statements.

i’ve also heard similar things said about bradford.

That last post…the first few minutes are strictly about Goff.

And Dilfer nails it about as well as anybody.

yeah. i saw that video and thought about posting it.

i think the anticipation thing is the biggest thing. he sees things unfolding and gets the ball out quickly.

but as he plays and gets more reps i think he’ll get better and better.

one thing about mahomes. that guy is just a freak. his mental game is phenomenal in the few games i’ve seen. in my novice opinion of course. he’s like an aaron rodgers to me. precocious. he’s got that twitchy mind like dilfer says.

again. it’s still too early to tell. gotta collect more data on him. i think week 8 will be a good time to gauge where goff is.

still. that ypa number is exciting. he’s aggressive. yet he looks so relaxed out there. his completion percentage might not be where other qbs are. but i think the most important thing is his aggressiveness. his decision making. the offense looks explosive. and he might not have even hit his stride yet. he’s still a little off. ya know.

and i don’t know if not having a preseason made a difference in him being a little rusty. the fact is that he does look a little off but also flashes a lot. will he be like this over the course of the season or will he continue to peak toward the end of the season? will other qbs taper off as the season progresses? i guess we’ll find out.

on a side note. on that interception. i might be projecting here. but i understood what he was thinking almost. third and long. you don’t have a kicker. i gotta think if gz was healthy, he throws it away.

I think Kupp may be better than Hakim…though less of a breakaway threat. More of a possession receiver than Hakim, though. Like a faster, crisper Proehl.

i think kupp is key. could be better than hakim or proehl.

A lot of that is playcalling and offensive design but the qb has to execute.

his accuracy and anticipation. i haven’t seen it in a rams qb in a long time.

bradford was accurate but i don’t think he had exceptional vision. i think goff does. and i think that helps him in the intermediate areas where there’s more going on. it’s not like the deep passes where you’re just aiming for a target. you gotta be able to navigate all the congestion and find the open man.

goff looks good doing that. and even when the guy isn’t open he’s so accurate he’s still dropping it in there.

there were passes this past weekend where my jaw just dropped how accurate he was.

so i think he’s got bradford level accuracy but also trumps him in pocket presence and vision.

    it’s exciting.

Bruce had the quicks. Cooks has the speed.

to be honest cooks has both. he’s a supreme athlete. and he’s got huge hands. 9 5/8″. huge for a guy his size.

bruce is more like a woods in terms of athleticism.

but to me at least they both pale in comparison to bruce.

bruce to me is an all timer. both those guys have a long way to go before they can hold bruce’s jock.
