I’m gonna miss JT.
HerzogParticipantSeems like when college athletes are involved, too often there is no true investigation. The Seahawks were stupid not to look into this further. Whatever heartache they get from this pick, they earned it.
It really is astonishing.
I mean, under certain circumstances, i can understand picking a guy with a domestic battery
in his past — but taking a guy without even TALKING
to the witnesses — after the Ray Rice thing ? Wow.Maybe they just think they have such a good
domestic violence program they can help
anybody. Thats the only thing i can figure.
(I KNOW thats how the seattle PR guys
are gonna spin it…)I dunno though.
w
vThis just doesn’t seem like a “Carrol” move to me. It’s just strange.
HerzogParticipantafter all this offense is going to be built around the running game.
Ah but.
To me, running game or not, if the qb ain’t clutch, you don;t get that much.
The classic Oakland Raiders were a running team too, but, Kenny “The Carnivorous Reptile of the Suborder Serpentes” Stabler was clutch, and that was all the difference.
Me? I keep whoever is clutch. Even if he’s a klutz for the other 3 1/2 quarters.
..
Sounds like you might have been a Jake Plummer fan
HerzogParticipantDoes a head coach need to be sanctioned when meeting with a free agent? This ain’t college football
HerzogParticipantUnreal. Just unreal.
This is probably how the “investigation” went:
“Hey Frank, did you punch her?”
“Nope”
“He’s clean guys”
HerzogParticipantso they could offer him say…..3 million a year, if they wanted to?
HerzogParticipantSorry, haven’t been on this forum in a while. Been busy trying to get my house for sale. Thought I’d come over here just to see what’s going on. I’m so sorry to hear about your nephew’s condition, Herzog. I hope things are going better.
I will say that trying to find a reason for this type of affliction can drive people a little crazy. I know that some Christians will say it’s God’s will, He has a plan for all of us, and He won’t give us more than we can handle … I ain’t one of those people. Of the little I’ve learned about life, I believe that in times like these, it’s best to concentrate on what we can control. You, personally, may not be able to do anything, and you have to come to terms with that. Now, if you CAN help the family in some small way, whether it’s taking your nephew to a treatment once in a while or just being there to watch a pet … whatever … you may find that your “tiny” contribution is appreciated a hundred-fold.
Good luck to you, your nephew and your family, Herzog.
Thanks Dak.
I’ll take this opportunity to update everyone on how he is doing. After going to the psychiatrist several times, who gave him medication to sleep, he has been sleeping a lot. That alone didn’t solve the problem, but he has improved significantly. Than, his father took him to Africa for about ten days. No electronics, just him, his dad, a lot of good food and table top mountain. There is also two oceans apparently. It really did the trick.
Last week, his wife called and told him and his family that she is going to file for divorce. I flew to Chicago immediately and spent the last weekend with them. While the circumstance is very sad, it is now something that I feel much better about. He is talking, thinking and behaving exactly like he used to. The psychiatrist was surprised and happy that he has come so far.He now will have to face another challenge, but we are all here for him, and I believe he will be fine eventually. I thank you all for such great support and for being my friends.
Thank you all so much.
Reyan aka “Herzog”
HerzogParticipantIf he’s cleared, there will be a damned land rush to get him…
Unfortunately, few teams will be able to offer him money based on the CBA, so it will be interesting how he and his team decide…
Again, looking around the league, I dunno of many better situations for him than the Rams… Running attack where he would could step in and start at ROT from Day 1. How many other franchises could offer that?
What do you mean “based on the CBA”. What kind of limitations are we talking about here?
May 4, 2015 at 4:26 pm in reply to: now that the dust has settled a bit, how do you feel about this draft? #24014HerzogParticipantTo me, it’s not about being a running team or a passing team. It’s about doing something so well, that the defense has to account for it ALL the time. GSOT had that with it’s passing. The pass set up the run. This team wants to do it the other way around. We should find ourselves with 8 in the box all the time. And that will open up the passing game like we haven’t seen in a while. We had that with S.J., but only b/c we had NOBODY at wideout. Interestingly, this could make Givens very useful again. If we stop trying to make him anything other than what he is, a one trick pony. He could really be effective in that one trick.
I love it, but keep in mind we aren’t going to be that team at first. I’m just hoping for 3-3 at the beginning of the season. After that I’ll expect this team to go on a tear. At least that’s my fantasy.
HerzogParticipantAs a St. Louis guy, I gotta say…..THAT SUCKS.
It sucks so much that it made me laugh.
Sigh
May 4, 2015 at 3:32 pm in reply to: now that the dust has settled a bit, how do you feel about this draft? #23996HerzogParticipantLOVE IT.
I had a fantasy that they would draft a buttload of offensive lineman, but I never thought they’d actually do it. I think they did it right this time.
HerzogParticipantBut yeah, if he’s clear and even if he might miss a bit of time, I’d jump on it…early.
He’s a 1st round talent who does what we want to do. Show some faith in the kid and watch him pay it back.
It would be nice but he is in essence a free agent.
He can go anywhere he wants, if things hold up as is.
This could work out that he essentially “fell” to the Patriots for nothing.
Sounds about right. Those Patriot basturds will probably get him
May 4, 2015 at 1:21 pm in reply to: Rams still interested in OT Joe Barksdale, but where does he fit? #23977HerzogParticipantInteresting that Snead declares him ready to start. Even so, it makes no difference. Fish and Bou will decide, and they don’t historically start rookies right out of the gate.
Wish we could rent Barksdale for half a season
HerzogParticipantI think I like Wichmann best of all the OL picked.
I really like Havenstein, but he tends to “follow the crowd” at times. Wichmann looked like a Pro among amateurs when I watched him. Good set, good punch, GREAT wall off and he handled Leonard Williams well, a guy who went top 5.
Wouldn’t surprise me AT ALL if Wichmann beat out Jamon Brown for the RG spot and started. Guy’s got 50 starts under his belt and his pass pro is good, plus he gets to the second level quickly.
I think they want Barks back. I do.
Presuming they do get Barks back, I think they will have tremendous youth and depth in case of injury, but should have an OL ready to go and wreck the league come the first game.
Robinson // Saffold // Jones* // Wichmann // Barksdale * could be Jones, Barnes or Rhaney depending on a number of factors.
Now, THAT OL looks good to me. With the depth we’ll have based on who we drafted, I really feel good about our OL. Wouldn’t surprise me if Barks isn’t getting push that Havenstein steps in. Plus, LG is the easier of the two Guard spots (forget which guard was saying that, but one long time pro OG was saying that RG was significantly harder to play than LG and it’s not a matter of side and technique, but responsibilities), so I could see Jamon Brown stepping in and spelling Saffold if he gets dinged as he tends to do and us shifting to running a bit more to the left side behind the big slice of ham…lol.
Still… Wichmann looks like our steal of the draft. Damn. I mean, his set…his wall off… Gurley behind this guy will break huge runs because he seals like no guy we’ve had since Timmerman.
I’m saying, I think he’s gotta be a favorite for our RG spot. Coach Boo has got to LOVE this kid!
Mack…. So glad you know about this stuff. I had no clue. Feel better about it now
May 1, 2015 at 8:16 pm in reply to: If they want Collins…better take him in the 2nd or 3rd round #23619HerzogParticipantif there was anything even remotely pointing toward him doing it, he would have been a suspect….. Right?
HerzogParticipantDuring the pre-draft process the Rams are known to have brought in 12 offensive line prospects. Seven offensive linemen went in Thursday’s first round, five of whom paid pre-draft visits to Rams Park.
Seven guys went in the 1st round.
All 7 can’t have gone before #10. We apparently passed on some.
Damn. We’re almost to the point where we need 1st round talent even if it has question marks.
Yeah…. I mean Gurley better be something special. You already have two 1000 yard backs on the roster. I think they are looking for that 2000 yard back.
April 29, 2015 at 4:34 pm in reply to: new draft thread — mocks, scouting reports, different takes, etc. #23348HerzogParticipant=================================
alyoshamucciI have to say that last year, I was on the fence about taking an OT. I wanted Sammy Watkins of course, but I was on the fence on whether or not Fisher would consider taking an O lineman in round one since he’d never done it.
But when I look at it now, as I looked at it then, he was NOT taking an O lineman. He was taking a FREAK. G Rob was 330 and ran a 4.9 and had how many reps? Also, Boudreau LOVED him.
He may be the most athletic tackle prospect to come out since Pace and he had the full confidence of our staff. All of that led to our moving toward him instead of the freakish Sammy Watkins. This year we have another shot at a top WR, and next year likely too. Also it turned out to really matter that we went that direction because Jake went down.
But let’s not forget that he had NEVER done that before, and let’s not forget that G Robinson is an absolute MONSTER.
So, my point? We’re not going O line at 10. I’m going to call it. Scherff is an average athlete, Peat and Flowers are really second round prospects with upside but huge holes in their game … and possibly their attitudes, which is even worse. Are they really that much better than Donovan Smith, or even Jamal Brown for that matter?
So while some may have an O lineman worthy of a pick at ten, would you say that Fisher would take a GUARD at 10? I can’t. I just can’t.
Whether we take a WR, Gurley, or a high end DE I really don’t care. But I am going on record to say that I believe there is ZERO chance they take an average athlete at 10 overall.
This actually makes sense to me.
HerzogParticipantThey’d probly have to add a no.2 pick as well,
I would think.I dont really get the Mariota love, btw.
I’ve never understood it.w
vYeah, I don’t think a single one of these guys has produced a damn thing in the NFL.
Ya know, if you dont like college players,
maybe you should just move to North Korea.Btw, i wonder if the NFL would expand
into North Korea if the money was right.w
vSure, it would be great…..until the North Korean team wants to re-locate to Guam

April 29, 2015 at 4:29 pm in reply to: your relation to this season is…? same as usual? losing interest? etc? #23345HerzogParticipantI’m interested, but hateful. I am every off season. I hate waiting for the season to begin. Then it begins, and we only get to watch once a week.
I HATE that it takes so long for the draft to happen.
I turn my brain off to the rest of this stuff. If they move, they move. I’m married to this team now. Just like in marriage, I both love and hate it. It won’t matter where they play or who the coach is.
HerzogParticipantI’m a St.louis guy. Born and raised in a small town in Missouri. I was in middle school when the Cardinals left, so I hadn’t entered my die hard fan years. (Lomax was the only thing we had to cheer for). But It still hurt a lot.
Maybe that whole “too little too late” mantra is true. Logically, I totally get that. Had Peacock given this proposal a couple of years ago, before the lease expired, than maybe none of this happens. It’s true right? St. louis didn’t hold up to it’s part of the agreement, so the Rams have every right to go.
What makes it feel like we’re being ‘jobbed’ is the fact that St. Louis IS stepping up now. In a big way. In a way that none of these other cities have before. If L.A. had proposed this kind of stadium back when Georgia was in L.A., she never would have left. If Oakland gave this proposal to the Raiders, they’d be over the moon.
The other reason it feels like we are being “jobbed” is b/c we were told that if a city makes a real attempt to accommodate the team, than the NFL will not allow that team to move. It certainly doesn’t feel like that’s how its going to turn out here does it? And furthermore, the NFL has moved up the deadline to make it even harder for the cities to come make this attempt.
The “being jobbed” doesn’t come from the team leaving. It comes from the NFL telling the Cities “If you give a solid plan, they won’t leave.”
Was there any other team that left a city despite the fact that the city was building them a stadium? I can’t think of any, can you?
HerzogParticipantinglewood’s stadium presentation.
starts at 2:37 mark.
http://www.cityofinglewood.org/soc15.html
it’s sad. lots of loyal st louis rams fans are getting jobbed on this. i don’t know how this can be stopped.
Well…um…so did lots of loyal Los Angeles fans back in 1995. Ya know.
I cant see any way out of the ‘jobbing’
of loyal fans somewhere — unless the NFL
adds a coupla teams.w
vI think I’m mildly offended.
HerzogParticipantThe Riverfront stadium is just beautiful. I can’t believe they have gotten this far and probably won’t get to keep the Rams. I will never support the St. Louis Raiders.
April 27, 2015 at 6:03 pm in reply to: Rams to pick up fifth-year option on DT Michael Brockers #23230HerzogParticipantWhy not pick up Barron’s option? Why spend all that draft capitol and not try to keep him a little longer.
April 23, 2015 at 5:24 pm in reply to: Wagoner: offense, defense open offseason from opposing angles #23042HerzogParticipantLearning will also be a big part of the defensive meetings, but most of that learning will be centered on finding out what Williams has cooked up in his laboratory. According to linebacker James Laurinaitis, there might not be a coordinator in the league who spends more time watching film and devising creative and exotic defensive schemes than Williams.
This is what scares me.
April 21, 2015 at 5:30 pm in reply to: So the great debate continues to divide Ramdom — how good is Barksdale? #22970HerzogParticipantyou can judge an OT
without regard to the Guard next to him.I don’t do the “guard next to him” argument. It was the entire line.
Ok, but i dunno. I’m just not sure how much the rest
of the line affects a Tackle. Just seemed like he was
getting physically beat too much. But I’m not sure.Again though — if he’s a good solid Tackle,
why aint they signed him?w
vI’m wondering the same thing about Blaylock.
HerzogParticipantThere is just no such thing as unimportant football information.
I wanna know what happened to the under-inflated-balls story.
Or was it over-inflated balls. I forget.
w
vIt was the patriots, so …naturally it gets swept under the rug

<span class=”d4pbbc-font-color” style=”color: blue”>Flowers! Flowers! I like Donovan Smith better. Smith handled Gregory. Gregory handled Flowers.</span>
<span class=”d4pbbc-font-color” style=”color: blue”>When I hear people say stuff like this, it makes me distrust everything they say.</span>
I don’t understand what you are saying here.
April 21, 2015 at 1:30 pm in reply to: Rams Near Deal To Spend Part of Training Camp With Cowboys In CA #22956HerzogParticipantMan. Itz almost like Kroenke doesn’t want St.Louis
fans to buy tickets.Practicing in Oxnard. Geez.

vYeah, seems like Jones and Kroenke are brothers
April 21, 2015 at 12:50 pm in reply to: So the great debate continues to divide Ramdom — how good is Barksdale? #22954HerzogParticipant<span class=”d4pbbc-font-color” style=”color: blue”>The Rams could sign Barksdale to any reasonable high end contract, even up to, ~5 million/yr with 8-10 million guaranteed. They just have to manage the contract this year to fit under a cap number of ~3 million. Whether Barksdale has another offer or not, this indicates that there is a point the Rams will not go past and that it isn’t good enough to get Barksdale signed. Maybe he figures that later on some team will be more desperate for a tackle?.</span>
<span class=”d4pbbc-font-color” style=”color: blue”>The Rams will be committed to running the ball. (They signed Kendricks to a 4yr/18million contract.) Even with Barksdale back this will take more than drafting a starting guard in the 2cd or 3rd round. Cause they could always sign Blalock and not draft any offensive linemen, if that was the answer. imo</span>
<span class=”d4pbbc-font-color” style=”color: blue”>It would take an extraordinary player, Cooper is the only one that fits that, for them to not pick Scherff or Collins at 10. I see Scherff and Collins on par with every other player that might fall. The rest of the candidates are merely trade bait. imo</span>
<span class=”d4pbbc-font-color” style=”color: blue”>I know other posters have different opinions. This is how I see it.</span>
It’s weird when an offensive lineman’s play degrades (without playing through an injury). I hope they sign him. It’s not like the Rams are overflowing with offensive lineman depth.
