This team is puzzling . The defense is better than expected considering how many starters they lost Long, JL, Jenks and Mcloed and the offense is worse and the only lost a melted down Foles and Cook, with Quick hopefully finding his groove and of course Mason a no show. One thing is the Rams can out hit anyone and there is an intimidation factor. The AZ game showed that.

Glad you’re okay Winnbrad, some good observation there. I don’t see all of it the same but for the most part I agree. I haven’t had the time you have either so there is that as well. Hill is in there because Sensabaugh was so bad he got benched. Alexander has made some plays hes got a sack and Davis saved a TD with a pass defended swatting it away in the endzone plus he’s a special teams ace

I think the Rams can beat any team, I just don’t know if they will. I will guarantee they don’t want to play us right now nobody does. Watkins is on IR so that makes it easier but they still have the guy I wanted the Rams to grab ,wr Robert Woods. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOZqTn7mtXM

Stories that should be getting more attention

    1) Start the Aaron Donald for Defensive Player of the Year campaign now. If Donald keeps it up, keep him in mind for MVP. The Los Angeles defender is the best player on the field in every Rams game, destroying so many snaps where he never even shows up in the box score. Credit coordinator Gregg Williams for diversifying Donald’s attack this year, using him at defensive end and on increased stunts around the edge. Donald’s Pro Football Focus grade this year is more than double that of any other defensive player.

Perhaps it will take J.J. Watt’s injury and the Rams winning for everyone to realize that Donald is a generational talent. He might have the quickest first step in NFL history for an interior lineman. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000715193/article/week-4-reset-vikings-are-here-to-stay-at-quarter-mark

    RAMS (2-1) AT CARDINALS (1-2)

    When: Sunday, 1:25 p.m.

Where: University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, Ariz.

    Line: Cardinals by 8

    TV/radio: Ch. 11; 710-AM, 100.3 FM and 1330 AM (Spanish)

    RAMS OFFENSE vs. CARDINALS DEFENSE

Once again, this game figures to be a referendum on running back Todd Gurley and the Rams’ ability to block for him. Gurley, stifled in the first two games, got going a bit last week at Tampa Bay but faces another big challenge. Arizona’s defense got smashed for 208 rushing yards in last week’s loss to Buffalo, but 76 of those came from quarterback Tyrod Taylor, so that’s a bit misleading. The Rams, with Case Keenum, don’t offer that type of dual-threat attack at quarterback. In their first two games, the Cardinals allowed a combined total of only 191 rushing yards, so it could be another challenging game. Last year, Gurley rushed for 146 yards in the teams’ first meeting, but only 41 in the rematch. Keenum is improving, but now faces an Arizona defense that has allowed only 5.7 yards per pass attempt, tied for the lowest in the NFL. Arizona likes to bring pressure. Linebackers Markus Golden and Chandler Jones have recorded a sack in each of the first three games. Edge: CARDINALS.

    CARDINALS OFFENSE vs. RAMS DEFENSE

It should be fascinating to see how Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer bounces back. Palmer passed for five touchdowns and zero interceptions in his first two games this season, but against Buffalo he threw four interceptions and zero touchdowns and completed just half his passes. Palmer torched the Rams last season for 708 passing yards in two games. The Rams’ secondary has been tested this season. Opponents have thrown 128 times (third-most in the league) but have completed 62.5 percent of those, which is only average. Arizona running back David Johnson poses an intriguing challenge to a Rams defense that has been strong against the run this season. Johnson is yet to have a breakout game on the ground (217 yards in three games) but is a threat out of the backfield, with 10 catches for 169 yards. Veteran Arizona receiver Larry Fitzgerald is always a threat, but the Rams, with a strong defensive front, will attempt to pressure Palmer and force more mistakes. Edge: RAMS

    SPECIAL TEAMS

Arizona kicker Chandler Catanzaro, highly consistent in 2015, got off to a tough start this season when he hooked a 47-yard field goal wide left late in the fourth quarter. The Cardinals lost to New England by two points. Catanzaro is 3 for 3 in his last two games, though, and hit from 60 yards in last week’s loss to Buffalo. It’s difficult to argue with anything the Rams have been doing in their kicking game. Greg Zuerlein, maligned last season, is 4 for 4 (plus 5 for 5 on extra points), and last Sunday in Tampa Bay he boomed a 53-yard field goal that seemingly could have been good from 10 yards farther. Punter Johnny Hekker has dropped 12 of his 21 attempts inside the opponent’s 20 yard line and last week he had a 64-yard punt. The return units for either team haven’t done anything particularly special, although Arizona’s John Brown returned a kickoff 51 yards last week against Buffalo. Edge: RAMS

    COACHING

Bruce Arians made his name as the offensive coordinator when Pittsburgh won Super Bowl XLIII, then when he had a successful run as Indianapolis’ interim coach in 2012. It’s tough to argue with his regular-season results in Arizona, which have included a third-place finish in the NFC West in 2013, then a second-place finish in 2014 and a division championship last season. The problem? The Cardinals have yet to win a playoff game under Arians. The Cardinals have a dynamic offense under Arians and have improved their defense, but their 1-2 start to this season is surprising for a team that was expected to be a Super Bowl championship contender. Meanwhile, Jeff Fisher is off to a 2-1 start for the first time since he took over the Rams in 2012. Fisher hasn’t started a season 3-1 since 2011, when his Tennessee Titans did it (but eventually finished 9-7). The Rams haven’t started 3-1 since 2006. Edge: EVEN

    INTANGIBLES

Let’s not blow things out of proportion, but the Rams showed something last week. They flew across the country to face a Tampa Bay team playing its home opener under hot, humid conditions, and they fought in the fourth quarter for a victory. That’s momentum-building stuff, and the Rams no doubt will be motivated by the thought of moving to 3-1 with victories over tough division rivals Seattle and Arizona. This probably isn’t the best time to play the Cardinals, though. No doubt, they are motivated after last week’s surprisingly bad game against Buffalo, and they’ve played well in their two home games this season. A good team like Arizona usually doesn’t look bad two weeks in a row. Edge: CARDINALS

    MATCHUP TO WATCH

Rams CB Troy Hill vs. Cardinals WR John Brown: Start with the assumption that the Rams’ top cornerback, Trumaine Johnson, will cover Fitzgerald, who has been targeted on 32 of Palmer’s 117 attempts this season. No. 2 receiver Michael Floyd is recovering from a concussion, so look out for Brown, who caught six passes for 70 yards last week. In two games against the Rams last season, Brown totaled 13 catches for 188 yards. Brown could be matched up against Hill, who made his first NFL start last week, but the Rams also would like to work E.J. Gaines back into the lineup. Gaines hasn’t played this season because of a quad injury and was injured throughout the preseason.

    PREDICTION

Who are the Rams? We’re about to learn. Are they the team that looked awful to start the season, or the team that has put together fairly impressive consecutive victories? A win against Arizona would be a huge confidence booster for this young team, and the prospect of a 5-1 start wouldn’t seem ridiculous. But these are the Cardinals, who didn’t lose consecutive games last season. Look for this one to follow a familiar pattern. The Rams’ defense will hold up well, and if the offense can put three or four touchdowns on the board, the Rams will be in the game. If Gurley can get going, or if the Rams’ defense can score another touchdown, an upset is possible. The Rams must keep Keenum upright and get after Palmer. CARDINALS 21, RAMS 13

Whiplash is my reaction. Keenum looked like he was being haunted again for a little while and then he’d fight out of it. I think this game will give him a boost to the next level QB. Gurley was getting pissed at one point (beginning of 2nd half) throwing his hands up after the OL left the mlb unblocked then the next play he slammed the turf with his hand when the safety stopped him for no gain. After that the run game got a lot better. The D was doing the Jekyll/Hyde thing poor tackling and nonexistent gap integrity alternating with highlight reel strip sacks and that incredible double team int of TruJoh and Barron’s. Britt’s roller coaster of dropping easy passes and making incredible one handed grabs was on full display. There is almost too much to watch in this game. I guess the major thing that stuck with me is this team is getting comfortable playing outside on grass . Early on imo they looked a little off but after Quicks TD the whole team looked happy like they were having fun playing outside in the sun.

Bradford played his last game for the Rams in game 7 2013. Givens was leading the wrs. at that point with about 300 yds including a 100yd game He finished with 569 leading all wrs. Remember they started with the idea to spread it out that season and did the reboot pounding the rock with Stacy. 2014 Fisher brought in Britt, drafted Tre Mason , Britt mentored Quick who is also great at blocking in the run game. TA and Bailey were starting to roll and Givens was the odd man out.I disagree he fell apart long before Bradford left. Bradford left before the draft Givens was traded after the 3rd game that same year 2015. in regards to being under thrown I was talking about Clemmons , Davis and Hill he didn’t play enough with Foles or Keenum, although that preseason bomb from Keenum was quite a bit better than Quick has showed so far this year or last for that matter.

Britt fits the Fisher mold better, his blocking ability . Givens needed a strong arm imo. I remember seeing out run Bradford’s arm a few times and once Bradford went down the Rams didn’t have anyone with enough arm to really use him properly. If you look at when Britt goes deep he usually has to adjust to an under thrown ball.Bradford as I write this is looking like the Vikes prayers answered. He’s carving up Green Bay pretty good for only being there 2 weeks.

Britt and Givens are two very different wrs. Givens was a straight up burner and Britt’s game is power/redzone contested catches. Givens was a 4th round record setting rookie . Britt’s is a underwhelming 1st round pick. Givens went down hill quick and Britt has teased of a rebirth since coming to the Rams. Britt is 6’3″ Givens was 5’11” in boots. Britt 223lbs Givens 195lbs. With all due respect Zn what in the hell are you talking about ?

One of the knocks on Wentz coming out was the level of competition. I too preferred Wentz and I considered the level of competition argument meaningless. NDSU has put quite a few players in the NFL.I think Goff will be just fine but it will take a while.

At least stacking 9 or 10 in the box would stop , Spruce in the slot takes away your nickle from run D.

that is not true ER. numbers mean nothing in themselves you have to interpret them. you and I interpret the reasons for the record differently

I interpret the 65 games coached by Fisher as 65 games coached by Fisher. You can argue your interpretation and I am pulling for you and your happiness on this but the number 65 is not open to interpretation.

Yes things have to be interpreted. For example you have already done that. You have interpreted the record as being a direct result of Fisher’s coaching. I don’t.

I interpret the 1st 2 years as a result of rebuilding plus losing a starting qb.

I interpret the next 2 years as being an example of what happens when a team does not have a starting qb AND has issues with the OL.

Given how I see that, 7-9 in 2015 was actually quite an achievement. That is, it doesn’t matter who the coach is if all you have for 2 years is BOTH no qb (only #2 types plus a starter who fell apart and melted down) AND big issues with the OL (injuries, and then inexperience PLUS injuries). I cannot think of any team that won under those dual conditions.

So numbers are not real…they are always the products of interpretation.

YOu look at the numbers and say see, bad coach.

I look at the numbers and say see, what do you expect when they have that kind of double problem.

You think (it seems) it’s natural and inevitable that the coach is the final cause and source of blame for that.

I think it;s natural and inevitable that any coach would have problems if they faced that kind of double problem for 2 years running.

    .

I hear you Zn but it’s not my argument . I am fully aware of your ability to talk me down of ledge year after year and I admire that quality. The sample size is not 1 game. I don’t deny injuries play their part and Fisher is not at fault for everything in every game every season and there have been some great games for which I give Fisher his due but sometimes it does come down to coaching. Last night he said he didn’t expect that out of them, the same thing he said after the vikes crushed us at home on the opener in 14′. If he doesn’t expect it why do I ?The roster has changed dramatically since those days but the team that showed up last night was the same team that showed up in 2014 and I do interpret that to be the coach.

There was a flicker of hope there during the 3rd . I thought Mo played well but I gotta put this on the coach. I think even the really good players on Defense have seen this one too many times. That death kneel at the end (which we have seen before ) was just too much. We’ve seen this through 3 or 4 OC’s sooner or later Fisher needs to answer for it.

The AZ defense looked good but not great. Palmer is declining. Fitzgerald was a monster! There were zero rbs resembling Marshall Faulk.
